Connective Games Withdraws from Russia, Remains Hopeful about the Future

Connective Games Withdraws from Russia, Remains Hopeful about the Future

The company said that it undertook the measure in order to guarantee the sustainability of its business and not disrupt the flow of product delivery moving forward.

Russian companies have been buffeted by an increasing number of sanctions issued in response to the country’s illegitimate invasion of neighboring Ukraine. Connective Games confirmed that the decision was a difficult one as the company has deep roots in the country, with its first development studio launched in Russia.

Stuck Between a Rock and a Hard Place

However, the present geopolitical challenges made maintaining business arms in Russia no longer sustainable. There is still something good to take out of this development, as the company is confident that its decision to withdraw will also result in better logistics and strengthen its overall presence in markets while carrying no risks for its business.

Connective Games has been marching forth confidently, announcing the opening of numerous studios across Europe and beyond. The company launched new local studios in Turkey, Serbia, and Armenia among others. The expansions were announced in November, and they are a part of a much larger and more ambitious plan.

Moving forward, Connective Games will seek to increase its presence even further in specific markets. Those include regions such as Latin America, Asia, and other European jurisdictions. Presently, the company is headquartered in Malta and holds multiple international licenses.

In March, Parimatch Tech, another prominent gambling operator and tech company, withdrew its operations from the Russian market and condemned the illegitimate war led by Russia against Ukraine, a country the company identifies with. Other companies around the world have responded.  LeoVegas symbolically suspended betting on Russian and Belarussian sports in May.

Times Square Casino Proposal Gains Support, Opposition Remains

Times Square Casino Proposal Gains Support, Opposition Remains

When voters approved the legalization of Las Vegas-style casino gambling for New York state in 2013, industry heavyweights had their eye on the Big Apple and its population with the NYC Metro area approaching 20 million people but lacking any true casinos. When Gov. Kathy Hochul more recently gave a nod to three new casino resorts in downstate New York; the public started to hear more about it too.

It’s widely believed that two of the licenses will go to the two existing video lottery terminal and electronic table game venues – Resorts World New York City, adjacent to Aqueduct Racetrack near JFK Airport, and the Empire City Casino in Yonkers. The third license is the one that has created a clash of titans with mega-casino operators and billionaires wanting to get in on the action.

Proposals have bubbled up that range from a resort at Hudson Yards to a new attraction at Coney Island to the inevitable desire to inhabit the vibrant center of the American entertainment universe at Times Square. All told, there are at least six viable proposals making the rounds and stimulating conversation as well as big dollar money interest.

Advocacy Group Forms

One of those ideas has gained the support of a new advocacy group; it’s called the Coalition for a Better Times Square. While stalwart opposition remains – notably coming from Broadway’s largest theater owner, the Shubert Organization and league of operators, producers, general managers, and owners – others see the value in such an addition.

It’s highly likely that big money is behind most “grassroots” groups in America, especially those involved in commercial advocacy that favors one entity over others. On its face and at its bones, the Coalition for a Better Times Square is composed of people and organizations that would benefit from any major economic engine being located there.

Construction unions, theater workers, hotel operators, small businesses, musicians and others have banded together to promote their location for a NYC casino to revitalize Times Square.

But the group doesn’t want just any casino resort on Times Square, it favors Caesars Palace Times Square. Caesars Palace would be developed by a coalition including real estate developer SL Green, Caesars Entertainment, and the newest member – Roc Nation headed up by world-famous rapper Jay-Z.

Alicart Restaurant Group is a member of the coalition. Its CEO and President, Jeffrey Bank said: “Times Square is the Crossroads of the World. Unfortunately, many tourists have yet to return and businesses still haven’t fully recovered from the impacts of the pandemic, which means lunchtime business is gone.

We need a new entertainment destination, like the facility proposed by SL Green and Caesars Entertainment, so we can bring our economy back and invest in needed safety, sanitation, and traffic flow.”

New Footfall of 7m New Visitors Yearly

Group organizers predict new footfall of more than 7 million new visitors to Times Square each year if the entertainment center is built there. Many of those people will eat, sleep, and shop too so they estimate over $130 million annually in Broadway ticket sales and retail receipts as well as more than half a million overnight stays.

Union leaders are all for progress and keeping their members working so it’s no surprise that the Mason Tenders’ District Council of Greater New York and Construction and General Building Laborers’ Local 79 support the proposal.

Business manager Mike Prohaska said: “A new gaming facility in Times Square would provide hundreds of well-paid, union jobs during both construction and operation. Caesars and SL Green both have strong pro-labor histories, and they have committed to minority hiring and apprenticeship programs that will open a pathway to the middle class for even more New Yorkers.”

Laborers’ Local 79 vice president Chaz Rynkiewicz added: Our members need housing we can afford in New York City, and this is the only plan that puts a casino in a part of the city where it belongs and won’t take away land that should go to housing.”

It’s no surprise that some owners and workers might have different opinions and positions on the idea and nowhere is that more obvious than in the contrasting agendas of the Broadway League (owners, managers, operators, etc.) and the Actors’ Equity Association.

The association’s communications director, David Levy said: “Equity members depend on a strong, thriving theater industry in Manhattan. Bringing almost half a million new theatergoers into our theaters, a commitment to union jobs, and unprecedented investments in safety and traffic flow will be beneficial for Broadway and its workers.”

Best New Online Slots of the Week | December 23, 2022

Slots of the Week feature image December 23 2022

‘Twas the night before Christmas and not a creature was stirring, except our regular round-up of the best new online slots of the week! We have the perfect collection of new slots to enjoy during the festive period, including beautiful bonus features, free spins, and lots of festive frolics. All you need to do is click on one of the exclusive links and play the games for free.

RIP City is Hacksaw Gaming’s latest offering. It introduces a feuding cartoon cat and mouse, Ro$$ and Maxx, in a five-reel slot crammed with wilds, free spins, and big bonus payouts.

Ho Ho Ho is the first of our Christmas-themed online slots this week. It’s a cutesy five-reel game featuring a host of gnomes with some very special prize multipliers.

Gates of Gatotkaca is the newest action-packed slot from Pragmatic Play. It’s based on Hindu mythology and comes with big-paying tumbling reels and free spins.

Finally, we’re joining Urgent Games with our final festive slot of the year: Christmas with Krampus. If the free spins don’t draw you in, the heavy metal soundtrack might.

Remember, you can play all of the best new online slots right here, and they’re totally free! Enjoy the perfect run-up to Christmas with our collection of top slots today.

It’s a battle of the cat and mouse in Hacksaw Gaming’s new cartoon-themed slot, RIP City. Join Ro$$ and Maxx as they battle it out across five reels with expanding wilds and two very special bonus features.

You might remember our preview of Hacksaw Gaming’s Book of Time earlier this year. The slot celebrated classic cartoons on a 5×5 reel set-up that boasted free spins, special symbols and multipliers worth up to 12x.

RIP City revisits the classic cartoon theme but introduced two new characters: Ro$$ the cat and Maxx the mouse. Ro$$ the cat can act as a wild and may expand to fill the entire reel he sits on. In addition, a multiplier is added to the entire expanded wild. Multipliers range from 2x to 200x.

You also trigger Ro$$’s special bonus by landing three scatters in any position at the same time. You win yourself ten free spins to start with, along with an increased probability of landing wilds.

In addition, you may trigger the Maxx bonus if you hit four scatters during the Ro$$ bonus round. Activate the reels and guarantee yourself an expanding cat wild on every single spin.

The expanding wild cats are the highlight of this game. They certainly add a fun – and potentially lucrative – element to the slot gameplay. We loved Book of Time this year and RIP City offers a similar level of cartoonish thrills. Give it a play for free at VegasSlotsOnline today.

There’s no place like gnome if you’re looking for a big Christmas slot this season. Ho Ho Ho is the newest seasonal slot from PopOK Gaming that offers a bonus game with multipliers worth up to 25x.

Ho Ho Ho is more of a traditional Christmas-themed slot that piles on the jingle bells and introduces some cute gnomes who can help you toward a big prize.

You play Ho Ho Ho on a set of five reels with 243 ways to win during every spin. Santa acts wild and replaces all other symbols other than gnomes when he appears on reel two, three, four, or five.

However, the gnomes really bring the party to this new slot. You trigger the feature by landing six or more gnomes in any position across the reels. It works pretty much like a Hold & Win bonus where you begin with three respins. These reset to three every time you land a gnome symbol. In addition, every gnome awards a prize multiplier worth up to 25x. You may also accumulate multipliers if you land three gnomes on a single reel at the same time.

You trigger the Super Game by filling the entire game area with gnome symbols. Choose from the five gifts on the screen to reveal a guaranteed prize multiplier worth 1x to 5x.

Ho Ho Ho also forms part of the PopOK Gaming Progressive Jackpot. You have a shot at winning one of four color-coded jackpots, and the bonus may trigger totally at random. Simply click on boxes until you reveal four of the same colored diamonds to win the corresponding jackpot.

Want cute seasonal slots fun with the potential to win big? Ho Ho Ho is for you. Give it a spin for free today.

Experience the tumble feature thrills of Gates of Gatotkaca from Pragmatic Play. Win multipliers worth up to 500x as you play free spins galore.

Gates of Gatotkaca slot reels by Pragmatic Play

Let’s break from the familiar festive fare to enjoy some fantasy thrills courtesy of Pragmatic Play. Gates of Gatotkaca is a superhero-themed slot with a difference. It’s the perfect all-action slot if you’re up on your Hindu mythology. Come along for the ride and try to bag a top prize worth 5000x.

Gates of a Gatotkaca is a high-volatility slot played on a 5×6 grid. It’s based on the demon-slaying hero from the Hindu epic, Mahabharata. But while there is little in the way of demons here, there are some priceless gems to hunt down.

You win a prize by matching clusters of gems and other symbols. You bag a payout by matching from eight to 30 symbols in a single cluster. In addition, Gates of Gatotkaca uses a tumble feature so that winning clusters explode from view to be replaced by symbols sitting above. Tumbles may continue indefinitely until there are no more winning combinations.

Multipliers can appear at random to bolster your payouts. Random multipliers are worth 2x to 500x. Once the tumble ends, all multipliers are added up and applied to your total payout.

You may also trigger free spins with four or more scatters in any position. You begin with 15 free spins but you’ll trigger five additional spins by landing three scatters at any time. Plus, multiplier symbols may appear to help boost your bonus return.

Gates of Gatotkaca is an epic new slot from Pragmatic Play and is the perfect showcase for the developer’s skills in gameplay and graphics. Give it a free play today.

Have you been naughty or nice? Brave a Christmas with Krampus as you try Urgent Games’ newest slot. It comes complete with wilds, free spins, and a mystery bonus.

Christmas with Krampus slot reels by Urgent Games

Celebrate Christmas with a difference in this ghoulish new Urgent Games slot. Christmas with Krampus is all about the demon from Eastern European folklore who would spend the Advent season scaring the naughty children in the run-up to December 25.

Just to add to the anti-Santa vibes, Urgent Games have included some moody graphics and a killer heavy metal score while you play. We recommend turning up the speakers if metal doesn’t offend your senses too much.

The symbols in this five-reel slot suit the nightmarish atmosphere. The reels are crammed with bloody cleavers, evil-looking voodoo dolls, and glowing skulls. Krampus appears as the wild symbol and will replace all regular symbols in the game. You may win a top prize worth 5000x if you land five wilds at the same time on one of the game’s 20 active paylines.

You trigger free spins by landing three or more bonus scatters. While there are no multipliers for triggering the feature, Krampus wilds will become sticky and remain in place for the duration of the bonus round.

Christmas with Krampus is the perfect antidote to cute festive slots. And while it doesn’t reach the sordid levels of some of Nolimit City’s games, it offers a little adrenaline to get you in the mood for Christmas. Give it a spin for free today.

Irish Study: Team Sports May Cause Gambling

Irish Study: Team Sports May Cause Gambling

The Irish Times reported that new research conducted by the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) and Higher Education Authority has shown that it is four times more probable that young males living in Ireland who have played team sports between the age of 17 and 20 engage in regular gambling than those who have not done any sports.

A Correlation Between Team Sports and Gambling Found Only for Young Males

The ESRI and Higher Education Authority researchers analyzed data collected over a long period of time for the Growing Up in Ireland study, which was conducted with a sample of over 4,500 young adults born and growing up in Ireland.

Their analysis revealed that the tendency of young adults who have played team sports to start gambling was directly related to the fact that they have done sports and did not have any connection to any other circumstances such as demographics, social and economical factors, or their professional development.
In numbers, this means that 12% of young people who played team sports at the age of 17 and 20 gamble regularly, while only 3.1% of the respondents who did not do sports at this age report that they are regular gamblers.

What is interesting though is that such a correlation has been found only for males. Young females that play team sports do not develop a tendency to gamble. 15.8% of young males of the age of 20 gamble while only 2.9% of young women do so.

At the same time, the proportion of young people who gamble increased from 2.6% when they were aged 17 to 9.2% when they were of age 20. This boost was entirely driven by males.

Other data that the research focused on was that 7.2% of all respondents aged 20 report they are regular gamblers, which means that they wager at least once a month. However, when this is divided by gender it is revealed that there is a big difference between men and women – 11.6% of 20-year-old males are regular gamblers, while only 2.7% of young females report regular gambling patterns.

Greater Insight Needed into the Connection Between Team Sports and Gambling

What the researchers found worrying was the considerable increase in the extent of availability of gambling and gambling participation. The pandemic led to the decline of in-person gambling and a considerable increase in online gambling. This leaves young people much more exposed to gambling products, which are currently widely available and very easy to access.

Therefore, the researchers are calling for further study of the correlation they found between playing team sports and gambling, particularly when it comes to advertising. Sports in general are targeted by extensive gambling advertising, which could be the reason for the discovered correlation.

The researchers also noted the need for a deeper examination of the gambling habits of young people, which could lead to a better understanding of their behavior and consequently will help educators, policymakers, and parents implement the necessary measures to educate young people on the implications resulting from gambling.

Persistence Pays Off for Jason Koon in PGT Championship Win ($500,000)

Persistence Pays Off for Jason Koon in PGT Championship Win ($500,000)

It didn’t take long for Jason Koon to follow up his High Stakes Duel win with another big victory. The GGPoker ambassador lost a huge chip lead at the final table of the winner-take-all PokerGO Tour Championship, but then he battled back to take it down for $500,000.

Following Day 1 (Wednesday), the 2021 World Series of Poker bracelet winner returned to action with more than 50% of the chips in play and six players remaining. But in no-limit Texas hold’em, no chip lead is safe from a bad run of cards, especially against some of the best players in the world.

The six who came back for Day 2 were Koon, Benny Glaser, Nick Petrangelo, Sean Winter, Stephen Chidwick, and Chad Eveslage. PokerGO offered up a winner-take-all season-ending free-roll to the top 21 performers on the 2022 PGT leaderboard. Everyone in the field but one would go home empty-handed.

Lead Dissipates

sean winter poker
Sean Winter

What a month of poker it’s been for Koon, who won Round 5 of High Stakes Duel III against Phil Hellmuth for $1.6 million. While he awaits a new challenger for Round 6 ($3.2 million pot), he made his way to the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas for a six-figure free-roll.

It appeared he was destined to win another tournament following his dominant Day 1 performance. But it wasn’t quite so easy on Thursday, and he was in for quite the battle for that huge prize.

After Glaser, Eveslage, and Chidwick had been eliminated, Koon lost a significant chunk of his stack betting ace-high into Winter’s two pair, and then shortly after his small pocket pair didn’t hold up in another sizable pot against the same opponent.

For the first time at the final table, there was a new chip leader, and then once Petrangelo busted in third place, Winter was up about 2-1 in chips.

The momentum had completely swung the other way, but Koon wouldn’t give in. He faced a talented foe in Winter, the 2022 Poker Masters champion, who made some aggressive plays that put his opponent in a tough position.

Momentum Back in Koon’s Favor

Perhaps the key hand of the match played out as follows: Winter completed the 30,000 big blind on the button with {q-Hearts}{j-Spades} before the big blind, holding {8-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} raised it to 150,000.

The button came along and the flop ran out {5-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} but both players surprisingly checked. When the {8-Clubs} appeared on the turn to give Koon two pair, he fired out a pot-sized bet of 350,000 and received a call. On the {6-Clubs} river, no help to either player, Koon jammed all in for 705,000, and his opponent made the call with top pair only to find out the bad news.

That put Koon back into a 3-1 chip advantage. Once again, there was no quit in Winter and he would continue his aggressive play. On a board with three nine’s, he moved all in with complete air and forced king-high to fold the best hand.

The effort would turn out to be all for naught for Winter when Koon put his opponent all in on the button preflop with {10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}. Winter called off his final nine big blinds with {j-Hearts}{8-Clubs}.

Although Winter was ahead, the board of {5-Spades}{10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} was unkind to him as it gave his opponent top pair. With that, Winter received exactly the same for second place as did the first to bust in the tournament — $0.

Koon, on the other hand, took home $500,000 and was crowned PokerGO Tour champion.

“It feels great, a bunch of great players in the tournament and almost all just good friends, so it was great banter and competition,” Koon said in his post-game interview.

Paf and Color Line Sign New Contract to Continue Partnership

Paf and Color Line Sign New Contract to Continue Partnership

Online gambling firm operating out of Finland, Paf, announced it has renewed its arrangement with Norwegian cruise and ferry operator Color Line to continue providing onboard gaming equipment.

Gambling Equipment on Board

The new long-term contract between Paf and Color Line will ensure Paf continues to supply the gaming equipment on board all five passenger ships operated by Norwegian’s largest cruise and ferry company. Color Line operates five passenger ships on four different routes between Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Germany.

Commenting on the new contract, Paf chief executive officer Christer Fahlstedt hailed Color Line as a “well-run and great shipping company that has weathered the strong winds in the industry,” and despite the few challenging years for the collaboration due to the pandemic, he said that Paf is looking forward to continuing their journey together.

Paf and Color Line has been partnering for the past six years during which the gambling company has been providing the passenger ships’ onboard gaming equipment, including slot machines, entertainment games and table games, and the challenges in the past few years posed by the pandemic did not stop the partners from developing their collaboration.

Thomas Gudbjerg, executive vice president of Commercial & Hotel Operation on board the Color Line ships expressed his and the company’s gratitude to Paf for being “a good partner that has contributed” a lot to the development of Color Line gaming operations.

Responsible Gaming as a Factor

“Together with Paf, we have succeeded in establishing a new level for gaming operations on board,” he continued, highlighting Paf’s strong stance on the subject of responsible gaming which is important to a cruise and ferry operator that is entirely oriented to ensure customer satisfaction for its passengers.

Recently, Paf made another significant step in strengthening its responsible gambling policy by introducing a lower gambling loss limit for people aged between 18 and 24 of €10,000 ($10,600) annually – half as much as its standard annual player loss limit.

To improve its product offering, Paf has been investing in the recent years in the development of entertainment games with the introduction of the new cashless Game Room concept, its slot machines have been constantly renewed and the range of games updated, and Paf chief operating officer, Lasse Danielsson, is adamant the investment will continue in the future.

Stating that Paf has managed to generate higher revenues during the pandemic than before, Danielsson outlined that, “in order to continue that development,” the firm would “invest in further improvements of the gaming experience” via new gaming machines and redesigned gaming areas.
