Vegas Loop station

Clark County Commissioners approved the Boring Company, owned by Elon Musk, to build 18 new underground transportation stations in its Las Vegas tunnels.

“[The new stations] will increase connectivity and convenience to visitors within the Resort Corridor and surrounding establishments,” said a document filed with the city. “[The stations will] encourage pursuing a variety of strategies to reduce reliance on private automobile travel, to reduce fossil fuel consumption and associated pollutant emissions from vehicles.”

the project will be 100% self-funded and will not require taxpayer assistance

The plan was met with a 6-1 vote of approval by Clark County officials. Boring Company attorney Stephanie Allen Key promised that the project will be 100% self-funded and will not require taxpayer assistance, which was key to its passing.

Musk’s plan will roughly double the size of the Vegas Loop and bring the total to 73 stations and 65 miles of tunnels, 25 of which will be added with the new build.

New stops will be positioned near Palace Station and Circus Circus casino resorts and the expected sites of Dream Las Vegas and an Oak View Group casino resort.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported that more than one million people have ridden on the Vegas Loop, which was approved in 2021 and opened in 2022. The Las Vegas Strip already had 55 stations across 34 miles of tunnels.

Parts of the tunnel that enter Las Vegas’ jurisdiction need to be approved by the Las Vegas City Council. The full completion of the Vegas Loop is expected in 2027 and will branch into residential neighborhoods.
