888poker Ontario is once again pulling out all the stops for its Ontario-based customers by bringing them The Festival Online Ontario Series, a festival of amazing poker events running from April 2-10 only at 888poker Ontario.

The Festival is a hugely popular live poker series that takes place around Europe and has an online edition currently running at 888poker’s dotcom site. The Festival Online Ontario Series features events with buy-ins from $16.50 to $109, and combined guaranteed prize pools weighing in at more than $100,000.

Everything kicks off on April 2 with a trio of Opening Events that are designed to get The Festival Online Ontario Series off to a flying start. At 6:00 p.m. ET, there is a $16.50 buy-in $1,500 guaranteed Micro Opening Event, which is followed by the $109 buy-in $30,000 guaranteed Opening Event at 6:30 p.m. ET. A half-hour later, the Mini Opening Event costs $55 and guarantees $5,000 shuffles up and deals.

There are no events on April 3, but The Festival Online Ontario Series resumes on April 4 with a pair of Pot-Limit Omaha events. April 5 sees the first of several flights to the biggest tournament on the schedule: the $109 buy-in Mystery Bounty Main Event, and its whopping $40,000 guaranteed prize pool.

Mystery Bounty tournaments are all the rage. This one, in particular, should continue the trend of awarding massive prizes from its main prize pool and some bankroll-boosting mystery bounties. Earlier this month, 888poker Ontario grinder “SKnolimit” pulled out a $10,000 prize in the $100,000 guaranteed Mystery Bounty Festival Main Event!

Other events include a short-handed progressive knockout (PKO), $11 and $55 buy-in Mystery Bounty affair, and a couple of full-ring PKO tournaments.

The Festival Online Ontario Schedule

The day was already promising to be a special one for Arie Kliper and his family.

Kliper and his wife were celebrating their wedding anniversary, and Merit Poker even presented them with a cake and confetti to help mark the occasion. Meanwhile, Kliper still had something else to take care of: he was still in the Merit Poker Carmen Series $2,200 Warmup on the tournament’s final day and with a chance to notch the largest score of his poker career.

He did just that, defeating Koray Korkmaz at the end of a gruelling, nearly eight-hour-long final table to walk away with the prestigious Merit Poker trophy. Kliper has tournament cashes from 2010, but the $206,800 top prize is more than triple his previous biggest score.

He had his family cheering him on the entire time. His wife was on the rail at the Merit Crystal Cove Hotel and Casino. His children were filling up the chatbox of the Merit Poker livestream with support for their dad. He had a contingent of fellow Israeli pros ready to celebrate. It all helped propel him to victory.

“I think it’s great. The best,” Kliper said following his victory after winning this tournament on such an important day. “It means everything. When you have support, nothing can stop you.”

Day 4 Action

Day 4 began with 21 players remaining out of a starting field of 611 entries. Recep Aydemir (19th), Nicolas Chouity (13th), and Ran Ilani (11th) fell short of the final table, leaving Julien Loire as the overwhelming chip leader with more than a third of the chips in play at the start of the final table.

Kliper began the final table in seventh place with 3,130,000. Despite eliminating Dmitry Gromov in ninth place when he called all in with ace-nine and beat king-jack, his stay there was nearly short-lived. Kliper was all in for his last 3,485,000 with ace-ten but ran into the two kings of Gurcan Gungoren. Kliper was two cards away from elimination, but he spiked the three-outer on the turn and paired his ace to double up.

Kliper doubled up again off Mikhail Zamyatin when he turned a straight in a limped pot and beat Zamyatin’s two pair. Kliper’s momentous journey through the final table was only the beginning, from being nearly out the door to now second place in chips.

In a three-bet pot with Boris Angelov, Kliper turned top pair and a flush draw with jack-nine and called when Angelov shoved with ace-high. Angelov was out in eighth place, and Kliper was up near 20,000,000 and atop the chip leaderboard. He also eliminated Zamyatin when he flopped top set with tens to crack Zamyatin’s jacks. Finally, Kliper picked up aces to take out Gungoren, notching his fourth straight knockout at the final table.

Kliper finally took a hit when he tried to bluff-shove Korkmaz on the turn, but Korkmaz called with a pair of jacks to double up. Then, in the biggest pot of the tournament so far, both Kliper and Eduard Barsegian flopped two pair and put nearly 20,000,000 chips in the middle. The Russian somehow didn’t go broke, while Kliper took a commanding chip lead over the remaining five players.

His big lead caused him to change his approach to a more active, aggressive style. “Be more aggressive. You can pressure the other players who want to advance in the money. Very simple,” he said.

After playing five-handed for nearly three hours, Barsegian got his last 6,300,000 in with tens but ran into the jacks of Korkmaz to hit the rail. Loire, never able to get anything going at the final table, blinded down to less than five big blinds when he got his last chips in with nines, and Kliper called with ace-king. It was Kliper’s day, and sure enough, a king hit on the river to send the former chip leader out in fourth place.

Korkmaz tied Kliper on the leaderboard when he turned the nut straight after Kliper had flopped two pair. Kliper retook the lead when he rivered a flush and called an 8,000,000 raise on the river.

Cenk Nigbolu then busted in third place, leaving Kliper and Korkmaz heads-up. Nigbolu began the final table at the bottom of the chip counts with just five big blinds but doubled up six times before finally succumbing to Kliper’s ace-king.

Kliper led Korkmaz 48,300,000 to 12,800,000 at the start of heads-up play, but the theatrics throughout the final table wasn’t about to stop now. First, Korkmaz hit an ace on the river after Kliper paired a queen on the flop to double up. Korkmaz won another all-in when he paired his jack on the flop and passed Kliper for the chip lead.

Korkmaz had a chance to win the tournament when he had Kliper all in and dominated with ace-queen to queen-eight, but Kliper flopped a pair and turned a flush to double up. Kliper doubled up again when he had nines and sixes to beat Korkmaz’s eights and sevens.

Again with a sizeable advantage, Kliper moved all in with king-four, and Korkmaz called for his last 7,500,000 with ace-queen. Kliper paired his four on the flop, and the tournament ended.

It was a golden anniversary for Kliper and a wonderful present he could share with his wife. It was already a special day. Some aggressive play, good cards, and a little luck helped make it even more memorable.

A €550 buy-in Pokercode Main Event occurred in Bratislava, Slovakia, in September 2021. It saw 253 players exchange €550 for the chance to rub shoulders with some of poker’s elite and potentially win some bankroll-boosting prize money. Pokercode’s very own Sontheimer finished 10th as German players clinched the top three finishing position. Alexander Baier was the third-place finisher, a result good for €11,950. The heads-up duo struck a deal that saw Tim Van Loo bank €19,395 when he fell in second place, and Maximilian Silz net €23,170 and the all-important winner’s trophy.

2023 Pokercode Madrid Schedule

€115 buy-in satellites for the Main Event run throughout the early stages of the festival, each guaranteeing at least 10x €550 seats. There is a Players Party pencilled in for 9:30 p.m. on April 15, while those players lucky enough to navigated their way to the Main Event final table get to enjoy a pre-final table breakfast with the one and only Fedor Holz!

March 26 saw online poker’s biggest names take to the virtual felt, partly because PokerStars was running its $7.5 million guaranteed 17th Anniversary Edition of the Sunday Million. While the Sunday Million does not crown its champion until March 27, a bunch of high-stakes tournaments at PokerStars, PartyPoker, and 888poker did, including the ever-popular $5,200 Titans Event.

The Titans Event is a $5,200 buy-in affair that runs each Sunday at 7:15 p.m. BST. Tournaments with such a high buy-in tend to attract elite-level players like lightbulbs attract moths, and the Titans Event is no different.

This week’s Titan Event drew in 85 entries, and saw a $425,000 prize pool created. Only the top 11 finishers won a slice of the pie, with Thomas “WushuTM” Muehloecker busting in 13th and “P0KERPR02.0” falling in 12th, popping the all-important money bubble. Of those superstars that cashed, “Sintoras” and “vincientvega” missed out on a seat at the final table.

Each of the nine finalists locked in more than $13,000 for their efforts, but there was a six-figure prize for the champion, so nobody wanted to pad their PokerStars bankrolls with the smaller amounts. Unfortunately, the very nature of tournament poker means there can only be one true winner, and the hopes and dreams of “Gogac sniper” were dashed when they bust in ninth for $13,391.

Astedt Has to Make Do With a Seventh-Place Finish

Canada’s “Stumpfed” joined the list of eliminated players after falling in eighth for $16,720, with Niklas “Lena900” Astedt collecting $21,635 after losing their chips and crashing out in seventh. Switzerland’s “25264556” banked $27,995 for their sixth-place finish.

Any of the final five players would have made a worthy champion, each of them household names. The final five became four when Jans “Graftekkel” Arends found himself void of chips and in possession of $36,225 prize money instead. Samuel “€urop€an” Vousden was eliminated in fourth for $46,875 before Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo fell by the wayside in third, a finish worth $60,655.

Bonomo’s untimely demise left Austria’s “Jesper8” in the unenvious position of being heads-up with the UK-based Australian Michael “imluckbox” Addamo. Usually, Addamo takes down the event when he navigates his way to heads-up, but this was one of the rare occasions that this scenario did not occur. Addamo busted in second-place for $78,487, leaving a delighted Jesper8 to turn their $5,200 investment into a $101,560 score.

Schemion Shines in the Sunday High Roller PKO

Ole “wizowizo” Schemion is no stranger to taking down major online poker tournaments. The accomplished German has won millions of dollars from this crazy game. On March 26, Schemion added $32,553 and another title to his already impressive resume after coming out on top in the $1,050 Sunday High Roller PKO.

Some 159 players bought in and created a $159,000 prize pool. Team PokerStars’ Sam “SamSquid” Grafton made it into the money place but was the final table bubble boy, his tenth-place finish coming with a combined prize worth $5,540.

The final table, as you would expect from a $1,050 buy-in progressive knockout event, was stacked with supreme talent. However, the waters became less shark-infested with each subsequent elimination.

Smiljkovic Time at the Final Table Was Limited

Daniel “SmilleThHero” Smiljkovic was the first of nine finalists to bow out, his demise in ninth resulting in a $4,827 payday. Mustapha “lasagnaaammm” Kanit, Rodrigo “seijistar” Seiji, and German star “Sintoras” followed Smilijkovic to the sidelines.

“janis1717” of the United Kingdom crashed and burned in fifth, Audrius “Stakelis24” Stakelis saw his tournament end in a fourth-place finish, before the Sunday High Roller PKO progressed to the heads-up stages when “CL0D0MIR0D” of San Marino, a country with a population of only 33,750, busted in third.

Heads-up pitted Schemion against Brazilian sensation Renan “Internett93o” Bruschi. After an intriguing one-on-one battle, Schemion came out on top, and got his hands on $32,553, resigning Breschi to a $23,022 consolation prize.

There were plenty of other big scores at PokerStars on March 26, not least an impressive $54,380 haul for “Marusia1980” after they triumphed in the $530 Bounty Builder. Elsewhere, there were sizeable prizes awarded to the likes of Joao “XxJoaoFeraxX” Otavio, Pedro “PaDiLhA SP” Padilha, and Czech grinder Vojta “vojta555cz” Skalak.

Santerne Smashes the PartyPoker Grand

Seventy PartyPoker players contested The Grand this weekend, each paying $1,050 for the chance to become a poker champion. Only one player could claim the title, and it was Malta’s Thomas Santerne that did exactly that.

Team PartyPoker’s Jaime Staples was the unfortunate soul that burst the money bubble; Staples’ tournament ended in a 14th place finish. The likes of Joachim Andersson and Ionnias Angelou Konstas finished in the money, but fell shy of a final table appearance.

Fernando Olimpio was the first of two Brazilians to be relieved of their stacks, crashing out in ninth for $2,890. Alex Kulev, Gabriel Baleeiro, and Jonathan Proudfoot soon followed Olimpio to the sidelines.

Bulgarian grinder Boris Angelov could not progress deeper than fifth before Trevor Reardon’s tournament came to a halt in fourth, a finish good for $6,382. Fabrice Bigot, who you may recall, won the recent WPT Prime Paris Main Event for €177,240, crashed by the wayside in third here, and banked $8,684.

Santerne locked horns with Swedish veteran Jerry Odeen for the title, and the Malta-based player got the job done. The victory came with the title of champion in addition to $18,806, while Odeen collected $12,344 after yet another deep run in a high-stakes online poker event.

Farrugia_1 Pads Bankroll in The Festival Online at 888poker

The most exciting result from 888poker this weekend came courtesy of The Festival Online, and the $525 buy-in $40,000 guaranteed High Roller PKO specifically. It saw 92 players create a guarantee-busting $46,000 prize pool. Only the top 12 finishers won a slice of the main prize pool, but dozens more saw some return on their investment thanks to the bounties that were in play.

Everyone at the nine-handed final table won between $1,377 and $14,214, with bounty payments included. “SilenziO” was the final table’s first casualty. The likes of “raisebot,” “QdEqTeCalaz” and 888poker regular “wellyxx” followed SilenziO to the rail.

Montenegro’s “Hvalavam” and “CushyPunt” busted, leaving only a trio of players in the hunt for the title, who became two after Swedish high-stakes guru “Perrymejsen” bowed out in third.

“Farrugia_1” and “GoodStoryDMG” fought it out for the title and the lion’s share of the $46,000 prize pool. The battle went Farrugia_1’s way, and the collected a total prize weighing in at $14,214, leaving the runner-up to console themselves with $6,276.

Those in Las Vegas this summer may be able to get their hands on a piece of gaming history as the 30th annual Casino Chip and Collectibles Show makes its way into South Point Hotel and Casino from June 15-17.

The 30th annual Casino Chip and Collectibles Show will feature over 50 dealers of casino memorabilia from around the world, giving attendees a chance to watch as precious casino collectibles are traded and evaluated.

The show is open to the public all three days and costs $10 for admission on Thursday, June 15 and $5 for admission on Friday, June 16, while admission will be free on Saturday, June 17. Admission is free for anyone under the age of 18 accompanied by an adult.

The show will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on June 15 and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on June 16 and June 17. The show will be located in Exhibit Hall C at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

The Casino Chip and Collectibles Show is operated by the Casino Collectibles Association, a nonprofit devoted to growing the hobby of collecting casino and gambling memorabilia.

Usually taking place alongside the WSOP and other summer events, the Casino Chip and Collectibles Show is a beloved event for poker fans and has attracted plenty of big names in the past.

In 2021, Poker Hall of Famer Linda Johnson and Women in Poker Hall of Famer Jan Fisher both made appearances at the Casino Chip and Collectibles Show and signed autographs for fans.

Ontarian poker players can kick off their Spring in style on PokerStars.ca as the Ontario Spring Championship Of Online Poker (ONSCOOP) started on Saturday.

Each of the 43 tournaments comes in a small-, medium, and high-stakes edition. In total that makes for 129 events across the two-and-a-half weeks of play. These events will come with buy-ins starting as small as CA$5 and running all the way up to CA$2,000.

PokerStars will put up CA$1.8 million in guarantees across the 129 events which run from March 25 to April 11.

There will be twelve “Championship Events” (each with three tiers). This includes the Main Championship Event which will cost $300 with a CA$150k guarantee. There will also be a CA$30 Mini Main (CA$30k GTD) and a $1,000 High-Roller Main (CA$70k GTD).

Variety Is The Spice Of Life

The other championship events will be spread across a range of games. These include the usual NLH tournament variants like 6-max, bounty, and turbo event. However, there is also a good spread for anyone suffering from hold’em fatigue. There will be PLO, O8, 5-card draw, and mixed game variants among others.

There will also be all the side events you’d expect. PokerStars is using the ONSCOOP festival as a recruitment drive. So new players are offered the usual range of bonuses, but old hands can still take advantage of promotional added-value and freeroll satellites into ONSCOOP events.

On Wednesday, May 3, the Southern California nonprofit Chrysalis “GO ALL IN” Poker Night will return to Los Angeles’ luxury landmark hotel, Fairmont Century Plaza. It marks the sixth edition of the Chrysalis “GO ALL IN” Poker Night, which has traditionally attracted a slew of celebrities including Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Chery Hines and Glee and The Office star Kevin McHale.

The charity event will help raise funds for Chrysalis, a nonprofit organization that helps clients navigate barriers to the workforce by preparing for, finding, and retaining employment through Chrysalis’ job-readiness program, individualized supportive services, and paid transitional employment.
