Don’t Overplay Your Hands

With these rules in mind you should be in a good spot for any hands where you have an ace in your hand. But as we said at the beginning, it’s important not to overplay your hands just because you have an ace. Some A-x hands just straight up are very hard to play and win with.

For that reason, you need to be wary of overplaying bad ace-x hands and here are three more tips on how to do that:

Fold Preflop

It may sound simple, but it’s the easiest way to avoid overplaying. Just fold pre. “But how can you fold a hand preflop that’s got an ace in it?” — the answer should be “quite easily.”

From many positions at the table, the majority of your Ace-x hands should be folded preflop! That’s just the truth!

Fold to Three-Bets

Having decided that you’re not going to fold preflop, the next step is to decide “what do we do if we get three-bet?” Again, it might sound counterintuitive but the best thing you can do with the majority of your ace-x hands is fold to the pre-flop three-bet.

This is obviously very position-dependent, but there are definitely some aces — especially offsuit ones — that play terribly in three-bet pots. If in doubt, throw them away and wait for a better opportunity.

Don’t Over-Inflate the Pot

It’s something nearly every poker player has experienced. You flop a pair of aces and start betting, and by the time you get to the river you find you were dominated all the way. A pair of aces is a strong hand — it’s the best pair possible — but it’s by no means the best hand every time. Avoid being the kind of player who gets carried away when you flop top pair. You can try and get two streets of value, or check back the flop or turn to try and sniff out a bluff.

That all changed in March 2021 with a 17th-place finish in the Sunday Million. Spraggy says the memory, although an exciting one, is a painful one at the same time.

“That deep run includes one of the most misplayed hands of my career where I made a big and incorrect laydown with . The excitement in those moments was palpable, both for me, and I think my audience at the time. Outside of the monetary value of a win I think those deep runs are heightened because of the prestige and the nostalgia of winning the Sunday Million.”

Advice for Novice Sunday Million Players

So what advice does the PokerStars Ambassador have for players perhaps playing their first Sunday Million this weekend?

“Enjoy it,” he said. “If you’ve got in through a satellite or a ticket giveaway of some kind, just enjoy being a part of a great tournament. In one event with such a massive field, you’re gonna have to run good to go deep so don’t beat yourself up if things don’t go your way.

“Try not to overthink your spots. There’s gonna be a lot of players in the same boat as you in a tournament that they wouldn’t ordinarily play. This isn’t going to be a field of elite players, so don’t feel intimidated or over-adjust from how you’d play regularly.”

Spraggy says it’s important to be wary of just how much of a grind the Sunday Million can be as players get deeper.

“The field is going to be massive, so early on, it’s important to think in terms of the marathon nature of it. Don’t get disheartened if a few hands don’t go your way early. The structure should allow for recovery. As always, be aware of approaching the money, consider the risks you are taking after late registration closes, and start heading towards the money.

“As for how to deal with the approach to, and maybe the final table, it’s very hard to say how best to approach playing cards for $1,000,000 for 1st when you’ve potentially qualified in for a dollar or two. Hold your nerve, and trust in yourself. If you’re that deep and already struck gold, anything else is a bonus.”

From the massive field just 21 players returned to the final day, with Rozvadov regulars Georgios Vrakas (16th – €10,406) and Marek Blasko (15th – €11,913) making the money.

Shylko had flopped a straight flush earlier in the Eureka Rozvadov Main Event, but his journey would end in seventh for €39,700. This result is the fifth-largest of his career, and only his second since becoming PSPC champion earlier this year.

An ICM deal five-handed secured six-figure deals for all remaining players, including two of the three Romanians to make the final table (Narcis Nedelcu and Eusebiu Jalba) and online qualifier Paolo Calculli.

Schneegass eliminated the Italian in third place and took a dominating lead into heads-up play. He eliminated fellow German Paul Knebel heads-up to secure the title and additional €20,000 set aside for the winner.

Global Poker Award winner Angela Jordison and her friend and fellow poker player Jacki Burkhart have started a GoFundMe with the goal of raising enough money to send at least eight military veterans to the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Salute to Warriors event on June 25.

On top of giving the deserving vets money to cover the $500 buy-in, the Oregon poker duo is raising money to pay for the recipients’ airfare and hotel stay in Las Vegas.

Receiving a WSOP package could turn out to be quite profitable for the selected American heroes. Last year’s winner in the Salute to Warriors charity bracelet, James Todd, took home over $160,000, beating out 3,209 entries.

Jordison and Burkhart created a GoFundMe to raise $10,000 to cover the expenses for five veterans initially. They each donated $1,500 of their own money to get it started. At the time of publishing, more than $13,000 total had been donated, which leaves money for at least three others to compete in the WSOP.

Doing it for a Great Cause

The first recipient has already been announced and it is Ryan Mitchell, who hails from the great state of Iowa. Jordison told PokerNews she came up with the idea when another player at the poker table decided to create a Facebook post seeking donations to buy Mitchell in.

“That’s when I realized I could use my platform to make this a big initiative,” Jordison said. “We jump-started the GoFundMe with our own money and are willing to put up more of our own resources.”

The generous and patriotic poker community quickly jumped in to help raise money and help send more veterans to Las Vegas for the 2023 World Series of Poker. At this point, it’s anyone’s guess as to how many vets will end up being selected.

Earlier this month, “pinvoypuzec” triumphed in the $300,000 guaranteed Mystery Bounty Festival Main Event at 888poker and took home $25,262 for their efforts. However, it was the 14th place finisher that reeled in the overall prize, one worth $35,228 thanks, in part, to capturing a $30,000 mystery bounty before they busted.

Carlos Pal is a software developer residing in Costa Rica, who plays poker part-time. Like many poker players, Pal discovered poker on television and immediately caught the bug.

On top of being a regular on Hustler Casino Live, Arcot is one of the show’s top promoters. He wrote in a separate tweet that he is “loyal” to HCL co-owners Nick Vertucci and Ryan Feldman, and took shots at Adelstein’s insistence on playing in hand-picked lineups.

Prior to the J4 incident, Adelstein had one of the squeakiest clean images in poker. He was a fan favorite on HCL and Live at the Bike for years, and few had negative things to say about him publicly. Not only that but he brought in viewers to both Los Angeles area live-stream poker shows.

Right up there with Phil Galfond, Maria Ho, and a few others, his reputation was that of a Mother Teresa type.

While he still has fans — many of them, in fact — that image has taken a bit of a hit due to manner in which he handled the alleged cheating incident. Beyond leaving the game upon accusing Lew of cheating he then continued to double down on the accusations in the days and months following.

Many poker fans were critical of him for accepting a $135,000 payment from Lew in the moments after the J4 hand. Some argue that he should pay her that money back, although he announced months ago that he would instead donate it to a charity. So, when he tweeted that comment on Tuesday at Nik Airball, he was met with some heavy criticism from some, but also many poker fans had his back.

“Hah @GmanPoker give it up man. You’re just hurting your own ‘built up’ image. Which you can legit thank @TheRyanFeldman for. Literally no one has missed you & stream is thriving. I had a ton of respect for you but you can’t just be throwing the show under the bus & @nikairball,” @SunnySaini_15 quote tweeted.

“Who would’ve thought Garrett would come back to the game like this? Im all for it! I can’t wait to watch the new Garrett play,” @K1gdev_ wrote.

“I’m not sure where you get the idea that he’s a bad person. I’ve gotten to know Nik quite well, and he has good intentions. You were upset about trivial poker politics and used that to slander him regarding the Robbi and Rip situation. I had plans to play a Friday game with Stan,” @The_Brownball posted.

A new table featuring Daniel Negreanu and Eric Persson appeared on Tuesday night’s High Stakes Poker episode on PokerGO, and it concluded with a poker legend coolering a recreational player.

Episode 9 of Season 10 had an impressive mix of skill, action, and personalities. Along with the already mentioned players, the game included Stanley Choi, Jean-Robert Bellande, Jennifer Tilly, Stanley Tang, and Andrew Robl.

Rockets for “Kid Poker” Right Off the Bat

During the old days of High Stakes Poker, Negreanu consistently ran ice cold. In Season 9, his luck turned around, and it continued in that direction right off the bat during his Season 10 debut.

Immediately after sitting down at the table, he picked up and faced a $1,300 raise from Tang, who was holding . Negreanu three-bet to $6,000 and his opponent, the founder of DoorDash, made the call.

The heads-up flop came out , and the GGPoker ambassador made the same $6,000 wager, once again receiving a call. When the appeared on the turn it brought four cards to a straight. Although it gave Tang two pair, both players checked and then the gave Negreanu a flush. He again went for a $6,000 bet but this time he couldn’t entice a call.

Turn Card Exactly What Negreanu Wanted

Last week, Antonio Esfandiari and Bill Perkins played an epic $600,000 pot with both players getting stacks in on draws. This week, the Hand of the Day was a battle for a monster pot between a Poker Hall of Famer and a billionaire entrepreneur.

Action began with Tilly raising to $1,500 from an early position with and receiving calls from Negreanu’s and Tang’s on the button. The blinds folded and the three remaining players saw a flop of , hitting two of the three competitors.

Checks were in order from everyone, and the turn was the , a brutal card for Tang considering he was up against a set. Following the three-way check on the flop, Tilly put out a $3,000 feeler bet drawing dead. Negreanu made it $12,000 in a great position to win a big pot, and Tang called, while the talented poker-playing actress folded her king-high.

Following the brick on the river, “DNegs” went for a sneaky check. Tang, however, sized up a bet of $59,000. Negreanu, who had just $200 on top of that wager, moved all in and of course his opponent couldn’t fold two pair getting 753:1 odds. The billionaire then found out the bad news and mucked his cards, while the $150,900 pot was shipped in the opposite direction.

Robl Jams on Tang with Big Slick

Tang was involved in another monster pot when he straddled to $1,600 with . Negreanu limped from the small blind with and then Robl bumped it up to $9,000 in the big blind with .

Sitting on cowboys, Tang went for a three-bet to $22,000 with about $105,000 left behind. Negreanu moved out of the way, but Robl, who had the food delivery app founder easily covered, four-bet jammed all in and received a snap-call.

Both players agreed to run it twice for the $255,200 pot. The first run out brought a board of , guaranteeing Tang would at least chop the pot. But the second board of went Robl’s way and they chopped it up.

Tang and Negreanu would play another pot during Episode 9, this one a three-way pot that included Persson, who attempted to bluff on the flop with four-high and a gut-shot straight draw. That aggression didn’t work out for him because Tang and Negreanu had both flopped a pair of aces.

When Negreanu jammed his on the turn, he forced Tang to fold even though his kicker was stronger. It was the best bluff of what was an entertaining episode.
