Andrew Robl never needed his $500,000 add-on during the three-day No Gamble No Future $1 million buy-in cash game as he cruised to victory, profiting $1,796,000 overall ($1,296,000 from the cash game) in what was a dominant performance.

The special live-streamed show on PokerGO, dubbed “Cash of the Titans,” and hosted by Jeff Platt and Brent Hanks featured six players who paid at least $600,000 to enter, and most were in for $1,100,000. Out of that money, $100,000 went to a side pot totaling $600,0000 that was awarded to the player who profited the most during the three sessions (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).

Although it was a bit questionable if the game was technically the $1 million buy-in game PokerGO advertised, and some on social media brought that up, the game played as big as any cash game ever streamed in the United States. As such, on Sunday, Patrik Antonius won the largest pot ever in US live-stream history — $1,978,000 — against Eric Persson, who lost his entire $1 million buy-in (plus the $100,000 side bet).

Coasting to Victory

“Cash of the Titans” featured a unique format in which six players competed in a rising blinds cash game with $3 million on the table to start and every player having the option to add on another $500,000. There was less action on Day 1 (Friday) than on Sunday as the players were protective of their stacks early in the contest.

Come Day 3, however, desperation mode set in for some at the table as they were also playing for that extra $600,000 side pot. For Robl, a high-stakes poker legend who was playing in a smaller game than he’s accustomed to, it was all about protecting a massive lead on Day 3.

Robl never added on the extra $500,000 because he didn’t need the chips. He spent most of the final session sitting on a $1 million or larger profit, and no one really ever came within striking distance. But he did show some aggression at times and put some pressure on his opponents who were desperately trying to catch up to his stack.

Antonius did, however, make up some ground when Persson jammed all in against him on a queen-high flush draw only to be called by an ace-high flush draw with top pair. Persson was drawing dead on the turn with nearly $2 million in the pot. Per the rules of the game, players weren’t permitted to rebuy once they busted the full $1 million, meaning Persson was out a short time later after losing his last $67,000.

Late on Day 3, Antonius thought he found a golden opportunity to, at the very least, get back into striking distance. On a board of and over $90,000 in the pot, he sized up a bet of $100,000 with for a full house. Robl surprised him when he bumped it up to $250,000. Antonius made the call only to find out his opponent rivered a better full house with .

For all intents and purposes, that was pretty much the end of it as it gave Robl more than a $1 million lead on anyone else at the table. While the others in the game didn’t just give up, the rest of the contest was merely a formality.

Gonsalves Crushes it on Final Day

That didn’t mean there was nothing worth watching the rest of the way. In fact, on the very next hand, Markus Gonsalves was all in preflop with pocket aces against the pocket queens of Rob Yong in a $1,298,000 pot, the second largest ever in US live-streamed poker history. The best hand held up and Gonsalves, who had been down big most of the three day competition, was in the black by almost $300,000 (minus the $100,000 side bet, of course).

Antonius would bluff Robl off jacks with eights to win a $426,000 pot during the final level of play. But then he’d lose to a three-outer on the river to double up Yong in a $493,000 pot not long before Yong busted.

Like Gonsalves, who was down more than $400,000 after Day 2, Antonius had to battle back from a rocky Day 1 start. MJ Gonzales, on the other hand, went in reverse, having finished the first session up $286,000, best at the table. But he’d end up down $30,000 for the three games (plus $100,000).

Yong was out of contention but had a shot to get some of his losses back in a $617,000 pot with all in preflop against the of Gonsalves in the final 10 hands of the day. When an ace flopped, Yong was out a total of $1,100,000 and out of the game. Gonsalves, who was playing in the biggest game of his life, was up more than $600,000 heading to the home stretch, and won more than $1 million in the final session.

Robl was far and away the biggest winner with a $1,296,000 cash game profit. Tack on the $500,000 profit from the side pot and he won a total of $1,796,000.

The Festival Nottingham concluded on February 19 with the crowning of the £500 buy-in Main Event champion. Some 609 players bought by the time late registration slammed shut and remained so, resulting in a guarantee busting £232,292 prize pool that the top 92 finishers shared.

When the dust settled at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham, it was Argentina’s Ignacio Menendez that had all of the chip in play, and he scooped a career-best £38,595 after a heads-up deal with Sean O’Donnell.

The nine-handed final table lost its first player early into proceedings, with Ananda Vemuri crashing out and made his way to the cashier’s desk to collect £3,500.

Eighth place went to Mark van der Voorden after he open-shoved for ten big blinds from the cutoff with pocket threes, and Sean O’Donnell called from the small blind with a superior pair of tens in the hole. The tens held, and van der Voorden was gone.

Almost immediately after van der Voorden busted, Michael O’Brien joined him on the rail. O’Brien was down to a little under 6.5 big blinds when he moved all-in from early position with pocket kings. Unbeknown to O’Brien, Endrit Geci was sat on the button with the only hand that could beat him preflop: pocket aces. Geci three-bet shoved, and everyone else folded. There was no help for O’Brien’s cowboys, and he busted in seventh for £5,500.

Sixth place and £7,000 went to Vegard Andreassen. He looked down at queen-eight under the gun and decided it was strong enough to commit the last of his five big blinds. Menendez called the shove from the small blind with pocket nines, and despite Andreassen flopping an inside straight draw, he ultimately missed his outs and crashed out of the Main Event.

Disaster for Dudakov

The final five became four with the elimination of Dmitri Dudakov. He lost a coinflip with pocket tens versus the ace-king of O’Donnell, and his micro-stack of 1.5 big blinds went into the middle on the very next hand. The Poker Gods were not looking down on Dudakov and he headed into the cold Nottingham night with £9,250 for his efforts.

Hungary’s Gyorgy Simon fell in fourth for £12,592, the tournament’s first five-figure score. Simon came unstuck after a clash with Menendez. Simon shoved for a little over five big blinds with pocket tens in the small blind. Menendez gambled and called with suited nine-seven, and was rewarded with a seven-high straight by the river despite Simon flopping top set.

Menendez Leads Going Into Heads-Up

Heads-up was set with Geci fell by the wayside. The former PartyPoker MILLIONS Online champion was down to 1.6 big blinds before he bust. O’Donnel raised on the button with ace-four of hearts, Geci called all-in with ace-queen, and Menendez came along for the ride in the big blind with eight-deuce offsuit. The active players checked down the board, and Menendez won with a rivered eight. Geci collected £18,250 for his third-place finish.

Menendez held a commanding 95 million to 27 million chip lead going into heads-up, but O’Donnell cracked Menendez’s aces with jack-eight to flip the contest on its head. O’Donnell’s lead lasted one hand before he found himself on the wrong side of an ace-king versus ace-queen situation.

The topsy-turvy nature of the one-on-one battle prompted both players to strike a deal that left the trophy and £4,250 to play for. Menendez captured the extra prize money during the 1,000,000/2,000,000/2,000,000a level when O’Donnell limp-called all-in for 37 million with ace-eight of diamonds, and finding himself against the king-seven of Menendez. A seven on the flop gifted Menendez the lead but O’Donnell picked up a flush draw. The turn paired a deuce, before the seven of diamonds on the river improved O’Donnell to a diamond flush but also Menendez to a tournament-winning full house!

The Festival Heads to Malta in May

The Festival next heads to the Portomaso Casino in St. Julians, Malta from May 15-21. There are few online poker tournaments that Artur “mararthur1” Martirosian has not won at some stage in his long and illustrious career, and you can knock the $5,200 Titans Event at PokerStars from the Armenia-based Russia’s to-win list. A compact yet stellar field of 49 players descended on PokerStars for the February 19 edition of the $5,200 Titans Event. Only the top six finishers won a slice of the $250,000 prize pool, and it was Jonathan “Proudflop” Proudfoot that busted in seventh place, popping the money bubble and leaving the six surviving players in the money.

Rayan “Beriuzy” Chamas was the first player to collect some prize money. Chamas’ sixth-place finish came with $13,223. The final five became four with the untimely demise of Ramiro “ramastar88” Petrone, who helped himself to a $19,313 addition to his bankroll. The player count reduced further with David “MissOracle” Yan ($28,207) and Talal Shakerchi ($41,198) bowing out.

Martirosian and “Sintoras” fought it out heads-up for the title and the $87,884 top prize. Martirosian got the job done, leaving Sintoras to head into the night with a $60,172 consolation prize.

“977sanek977” Secures Sunday High Roller Title

The $1,050 Sunday High Roller was contested by 124 entrants who fought it out for the largest slice of the $124,000 prize pool. Such high buy-in tournaments attract the cream of the crop, and this event was no different.

Sweden’s “Hendurr” was the final table’s first casualty; his exit in ninth came with $3,122. Indonesia-based Australian Stevan “random_chu” Chew ($3,567) and Anatoly “NL_Proit” Filatov ($8,313 were the next players heading for the exits before Vojta “vojta555cz” Skalak bowed out in sixth for $9,004.

Next to bust was “A.Wesker999” ($5,041), who was joined in the role of a spectator first by “Sergey260594” ($7,468) and then by “_m0ney2_89” of Belarus ($16,022). Those eliminations left “977sanek977” heads-up against the bubble boy of the Titans Event, Jonathan “Proudflop” Proudfoot. Both players locked in $12,030 from the main prize pool, but the final bounty payment was larger than that payout. Eventually, 977sanek977 defeated Proudfoot heads-up and received a $15,890 bounty payment, taking their total score to $27,920.

Tomi Brouk Takes Down the PartyPoker Grand

Finnish high-stakes specialist Tomi Brouk took down The Grand at PartyPoker, a $1,050 buy-in $75,000 guaranteed tournament that saw the top 13 finishers see a return on their investment.

Patrick Lauber was the last player that went home empty-handed, with such luminaries as David Yan, and Team PartyPoker’s Jaime Staples crashing out during the first payout levels.

The final table was a cosmopolitan affair with eight countries represented. Brazil’s Matias Terrana ($2,890) was the first to bust. Yannick De Raeve ($3,184) of Belgium followed suit, while Vladimir Minko ($3,438), Josh Hopkins ($4,011), and Andrei Kotelnikov ($4,912) lasted a little longer but failed to navigate their way to heads-up.

Denmark’s Thomas Jensen ($6,382) finished fourth, with Gavin Cochrane ($8,684), better known for his Pot-Limit Omaha prowess, finished in third and scooped the last four-figure prize of the event.

Brouk found himself heads-up against Malta’s Anthony Burguiere, and he defeated his final opponent to claim the $18,806 top prize, leaving Burguiere to bank a $12,344 second-place payout.

“Drogbaa” Devours The Big Saturday

The latest installment of The Big Saturday saw 128 players enter for $215, leaving PartyPoker with a $4,269 overlay on the prize pool. Those players finishing in the top 23 places benefited from the overlay, with “Drogbaa” benefiting the most because were the last player standing and received the lion’s share of the prize pool, namely $6,491.

Drogbaa left all 127 of their opponents in their wake, including runner-up “Leonel_pepsi,” who reeled in a $4,322 payout for their efforts.

“That was insane.”

It certainly was. Teun Mulder wiped out the entire final table of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Paris €25,000 High Roller II, taking care of his final six opponents after the bubble burst in under half an hour to claim the €389,870 first prize.

It’s Mulder’s second career Spadie, following his win in an EPT Prague €25,000 High Roller in March of last year. But that win was nothing like this one.

When asked after his victory if he’d ever had a stretch where he’d run that hot, the champion replied, “No, probably not; that was insane. I got it in bad, and I won, and I got it in 50/50, and I also won.”

Mulder’s final victim of the night was Tauan Naves of Brazil, who managed to survive the rest of the final table carnage to take home €257,900 for his runner-up finish.

Once Mulder busted Joao Vieira in eighth place to burst the money bubble, he had double the chips of his next closest opponent, and it was all over from there. The €1,199,520 prize pool would be distributed in very short order.

What a Final Table Performance!

Once Niklas Astedt eliminated Orpen Kisacikoglu in 10th place to set up the final table of nine, the Teun Mulder show began.

He entered the final table second in chips behind Naves, but quickly grabbed the lead with his elimination of Juan Pardo in 9th place to set the stage for what was to come.

After what would be the final break of the night, Vieira and Pedro Garagnani each returned with under five big blinds, and as mentioned, it would be Vieira falling short of the money when his king-deuce couldn’t survive against Mulder’s eight-deuce.

Yup, that’s how it was going to be.

Immediately after that, Garagnani (7th – €62,950) and Thomas Muehloecker (6th – €80,950) were both eliminated in the same hand when Garagnani got his microstack in with queen-deuce against Muehloecker’s pocket queens and Mulder’s pocket jacks.

Of course, a jack came on the flop, and the field was down to five.

Just a couple of minutes after that, Astedt smashed his ace-nine into Mulder’s pocket kings and the Dutchman had his next victim, sending Astedt home with the day’s first six-figure payday of €101,950.

Next to go was Jakov Nesterov (4th – €131,950) who got his ace-six in dominated versus Mulder’s ace-seven. There was no three-outer or a chop for Nesterov, and the tournament was down to three-handed.

Again, within a couple of hands, Mulder had another potential elimination on deck with Seth Davies (3rd – €173,950) holding queen-jack versus Mulder’s ten-eight. Without fail, an eight came for Mulder to set things up for his final victim, Naves.

As he had already been a couple of times at the final table, Mulder found himself dominated, with Naves holding ace-eight versus his ace-seven. Still, when a straight draw presented itself on the flop, it seemed a foregone conclusion that it would come in, and it did on the turn to complete Mulder’s incredible victory.

On Sunday night, Patrik Antonius made poker history by winning a $1,978,000 million pot, the largest-ever broadcast on a United States live stream. It beat out the previous record of $1,158,000 from Hustler Casino Live (HCL) by $820,000! In terms of the largest pot ever broadcast, that record of $2,353,500 is from a Triton Poker hand between Paul Phua and Tom Dwan.

Antonius, who made headlines for making an unbelievable call last year, also holds the record for largest online poker pot for taking down a $1,356,947 pot against Viktor “Isildur1” Blom on Full Tilt Poker back in 2009. However, whether or not that record still stands is a point of controversy as in January 2022, Tony G apparently won a pot worth $1,820,783 against Leon Tsoukernik, though the hand took place in a crypto game on CoinPoker.

The live hand took place on the third night of the highly-publicized No Gamble, No Future “Cash of the Titans”, which saw six players buy-in for $1 million while also putting up $100,000 on the side for whoever finished with the most profit. Per rules, each player had a pair of $500,000 bullets, giving them the option to either buy in for the full $1 million or to start with $500,000 and add on later.

To start the game, which began at $500/$500 but with escalating blinds, each player opted to start with $500,000. A pair of three-hour levels were played each day.

The Hand

About 30 minutes into the game, which was being played with blinds of $1,000/$2,000/$2,000, recent PokerNews Podcast guest Eric Persson, who had been driving much of the early action, raised to $7,000 from the hijack with the . Rob Yong called from the button with the before Antonius looked down at the in the small blind and popped it to $30,000.

Persson called, as did Yong, and the flop came down . Antonius had the nut flush draw on the paired board and bet $40,000 into the $94,000 pot. Persson snap-raised to $140,000 with his inferior flush draw, Yong got out of the way, and Antonius clicked it back to $250,000.

Persson wasted little time in calling and the appeared on the turn. Antonius, who was guaranteed to win the hand if it got to showdown, bet $150,000 and Persson moved all in for $692,000. Antonius had $542,000 behind and thought for about 10 seconds before calling off.

Everyone in the game had put up $100,000 on the side to go to the player who finished with the largest profit, and prior to the start of play they agreed all-in pots would only be run once and no deals would be made. As such, the meaningless was run out on the river and Antonius won a nearly $2 million pot.

“That is the biggest pot in US televised poker history,” commentator Jeff Platt exclaimed.

Co-host Brent Hanks added: “We have just witnessed something extraordinary.”

Persson was left with just $67,000 and would eventually lose that. Because he had already exercised his second $500,000 bullet, per the rules of the game he was eliminated from contention.

Robl Wins $1,269,000 Pot

Not long after, Antonius was involved in another big pot. It happened when Persson limped first to act with the and Antonius raised to $10,000 on the button with pocket nines. Andrew Robl then three-bet to $52,000 from the big blind with the and Persson folded.

Antonius called and the flop fell with two spades to give Robl a straight and Antonius a set. The former led out for $65,000, the latter called, and the dealer burned and turned the . Robl bet $140,000 into the pot of $140,000 and Antonius called to see the on the river.

Robl bet $375,000 and Antonius gave it some thought before making the call. Unfortunately for him, his set was no good and Robl claimed the $1,269,000 pot.

Standings in Penultimate Level

Despite Antonius winning the huge pot, he was still significantly behind Robl in terms of overall profit. With one level to go, Robl was up $1.1 million, well ahead of Antonius’ $484,000, while MJ Gonzales was the only other player in the black to the tune of $34,000 in profit.

As such, Robl was in prime position to capture the $100,000 set aside by each player – a $600,000 pot – for whoever finished the three-day game with the most profit.

PokerNews caught up with PokerStars Ambassador Sam Grafton during the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure for a sitdown interview about his life as an ambassador, his journey to where he is now and whether he’s looking forward to upcoming PokerStars Live events in Paris and Cyprus!

A 12th place finish in the PokerStars Players NL Hold’em Championship saw Grafton pocket a cool $238,700 and he said it was great to run deep in such a prestigious tournament.

“It would have been nice to really close out and get one of those million-dollar prizes”

“In all my years of experience playing, there’s only been a few times that I’ve run really deep in a tournament as prestigious and exciting as the PSPC. So of course, as poker players, we’ve always got our eyes on that big first prize or a top-three finish.

“We always want a little bit more, and we can always play a little bit better. It would have been nice to really close out and get one of those million-dollar prizes.”

Grafton says that he’s playing “every single stake” in the 12 years that he’s been playing poker and that he says he’s enjoying educating a new generation of poker players.

“I’ve been in every kind of situation you can be in, in terms of bankroll — being backed, being unbacked. Playing high stakes, playing low stakes. I’m really happy to just pass that on to other people who are a bit newer to poker.

“Players who aren’t used to being on a TV table or they’re not used to playing a 25k tournament. I think that’s just part of being a good person. And, of course, that feeds a little bit into the ambassadorial role. I am part of PokerStars and I want everyone who is at a PokerStars event to have a great time.”

The hunger to achieve is still there, Grafton says, and he wants to continue his success since the $5 million victory in the Coin Rivet Invitational last September.

“It just makes me more hungry to achieve. It’s quite an honour to be a PokerStars Ambassador and I put even more pressure on myself to do really, really well.”

With a return to Cyprus already on the cards for later this year — and EPT Paris taking place this month — Grafton says he’s excited for more PokerStars Live events in 2023.

“EPT Paris is long overdue and I have great memories of Cyprus. I think it’s going to be a very special event.”

After getting several complaints from players about the currently underway European Poker Tour (EPT) Paris festival, PokerStars issued a statement apologizing for “the subpar experience some of you have had at EPT Paris.”

The festival is taking place at the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile, a venue that hasn’t been the most popular among players due to its limited space, tight hallways, and registration process. Many were startled when they went to register for the record-breaking €1,100 FPS Paris Main Event only to learn that the event was at capacity and they’d be unable to do so.

“Forced day off today as EPT $1K Main 1C flight ran out of space to register the night before,” Victoria Livschitz wrote on Twitter on Feb. 17. “Glad to have a quiet day to catch up to work & enjoy a bit of Paris. Disappointed to miss the big event since I did make it half-the-way across the world to play some large-field MTTs.”

Earlier in the festival, high-stakes pro Chris Brewer complained about a “massive line” to enter the tournament, which he called “extremely unpleasant to wait through” and noted that people are for sure going to miss start of day 2s.”

“People also going to be unable to register. Something has to be fixed,” tweeted Brewer, who went on to win the €25,000 Single-Day High Roller for €357,180.

In a statement issued on Feb. 18, Cedric Billot, Head of Live Events Global Operations for PokerStars, personally apologized for the issues experienced by players at the first-ever EPT stop in France, a country with its own unique gambling rules and restrictions.

“We know that this event did not meet the high standards that we and our players expect, and for that, we are truly sorry,” said Billot. “We are taking full responsibility for any issues that have arisen, and are committed to making things better.”

The statement also provided information for players looking to register for the EPT Main Event to ensure the smoothest experience possible:

“We strongly advise players to register in advance and where possible to play Day 1a, in order to prevent capping Day 1b. Communication will be updated every day, you can keep an eye on our Facebook page for any daily updates about registrations.”

“Our mobile app is also updated regularly with important messages about all tournaments.”

“PokerStars is dedicated to providing the best possible live poker experiences. We are working hard to ensure that this does not happen again, that the end of this event will run smoothly, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. Thank you for your continued support.”

PokerStars ambassador Sam Grafton also addressed the situation, writing on Twitter that there were “obviously organisational lessons to be learned from the FPS.”

“That said we are very confident that everyone who wants to play the EPT Main in Paris will be able to,” Grafton added.

The EPT Paris Main Event gets underway on Feb. 20 with Day 1a and the six-day event is scheduled to wrap up on Feb. 26.
