The Real Victims Of Cons And Scams

R. Paul Wilson On: The Real Victims Of Cons And Scams

It should be no surprise to learn that I am eternally fascinated by cons, scams and cheating of all types and this ranges from dishonest play at the card table to stealing cash from someone’s mattress.

The spectrum of fraud and deception includes everything from the audacious con games of Count Victor Lustig to the lowest of the low and how they trick granny out of her life’s savings.

But is talking about the ingenuity of deception a distraction from the reality of who gets conned the most – does exploring the art of the con somehow fail to recognize the real victims?

Is This A Distraction?

Someone I respect in this field – easily an expert on deception himself – rightly points out that the Hollywood version of con men* is light years apart from common hustlers who prey not on evil casino magnates or high-society villains but on elderly or uneducated people who are easily manipulated.

I’ve heard him make this point many times and I think he’s 100% right – in fact, it was an important factor in how we wrote and produced The Real Hustle for the BBC.

Image: The Real Hustle/IMDb

It was important to us from the beginning not to target the easiest victims of any particular con game.

Many cons prey on the over 70s because there are multiple factors that make them susceptible to suggestion.

This is not just about senility, it’s about social change, feeling isolated or ignored, as well as declining mental and physical health.

So yes, call center cons, spam mail, phishing attacks, and door-to-door thieves try to shoot the easiest fish in the barrel but on the TV show we (Alex and I) were determined to prove these cons could work on anyone so we specifically selected younger marks from all walks of life in order to appeal to (and inform) a wider audience.

The Persistent Positive

The result was that The Real Hustle went for 11 seasons and would easily have gone for more if not for burnout on the part of production and the fact that most people we could target now knew who we were and what we looked like thanks to the success of the show!

Police officers told me that scams were being reported much more than before and the show was often credited by people as the reason they recognized the scam before it was too late.

Street scammers knew us on sight and were strangely friendly and quick to tell us we had made their life a lot more difficult, to which I always replied: “GOOD!”

We became the face of “Scamnesty,” a campaign to identify scam mail and I met Marilyn Baldwin.

Her mother Jessica became targeted by heartless a**holes telling her not to talk to her family, that evil spirits haunted her, and that she would die if she didn’t sell everything she owned and send them the money.

I spoke at Scotland Yard and Cambridge University to explore the way both scammers and their victims think, and I published an academic paper with Frank Stajano to help people understand scam victims instead of dismissing them as stupid or naive or gullible.

Eventually, I wrote “The Art of the Con” to record my own experiences learning how con games worked after being granted – through my TV work – the unique opportunity to perform these crimes without suffering the consequences (for me or our “victims”).

In short, by creating an entertaining exposé of con games in action we (Alex, Jess and I) noticed a definite public benefit with millions of viewers suddenly aware that con games not only work but that they might work on anyone, including people they care about.

In my opinion, we succeeded in not only informing the public about specific cons but also in raising awareness of deception principles in general and inspiring action to be taken on multiple fronts to protect the most vulnerable.

👉 R. Paul Wilson On: The Scams That Were Forbidden On “The Real Hustle”

How We Can All Benefit

I completely understand the argument that movies and TV shows glamourize scams or glorify scammers but while we love watching Danny Ocean and his crew take down the bad guys, I think we are all aware that in the real world, Danny himself would be the bad guy.

Ocean’s Eleven. [Image: IMDb]

I suspect 99% of the people who enjoy movies like Ocean’s Eleven, The Sting and House of Games understand they are watching a movie.

So while my friend is correct in his assertion that it’s the most vulnerable members of society who suffer most from acts of fraud and deception, I maintain that by entertaining people with stories of con artists (good and bad) we can inform a wider audience through osmosis.

The con artists in David Mamet’s world are sharks, in Grifters they are remorseless losers and in The Sting they are thieves with a mutual objective and a code of honor.

None of this is entirely real but the core methods used in all of these movies have been employed in the real world for decades.

Who do you know who might be susceptible to online scammers or in-person hustlers or telephone swindlers?

Who do you know who plays in the wrong games or dabbles in a dangerous business?

If you have a better-than-average understanding of how and why cons work, whether from books or movies or TV shows like mine (or all of the above) surely that knowledge can protect you AND those you care about.

So while the Hollywood version of con men might not represent reality, the scams being used can certainly relate to what happens in the real world to real people.

Think Like A Scammer

Even better than the ability to recognize a con game is knowing how to anticipate a scam or even prevent it by putting yourself into the mindset of a scammer.

One of the most brilliant methods for defeating persistent hustlers in parts of the UK was designed by someone who understood exactly what the thieves were most afraid of when stealing from elderly people on a housing estate in England.

Their scam was to ring their victim’s doorbell and convince the occupant they were from some authority or were needed to conduct a maintenance check.

Despite a campaign of leaflets to warn people, these gutless pr*cks continued to talk their way into pensioner’s homes and rob them blind.

Police, families, and council workers solved this problem by thinking about the scam from the scammers’ perspective.

They asked themselves: If I was a scammer, what would deter me from ringing that doorbell?

The solution was to connect doorbells between neighbors so that when an elderly person was targeted, a younger neighbor would also answer their door and the scammers would find themselves outnumbered and far outside of their comfort zone.

As a result, doorstep scams plummeted.

This was a direct result of someone understanding how and why this scam worked but more importantly, how to make life much more difficult for scammers in the future.

Naturally, I think it’s no coincidence that The Real Hustle was at the height of its popularity at the time…

* A little side note: The term “Con Men” refers to all con artists regardless of sex or gender and it is perfectly correct to refer to a female scammer as a “Con Man”. I learned this from a supposed friend (he later tried to con me himself) who pointed to the movie The Sting which used the term “Con Tess” (like “Countess”) and he had never heard that used in “real life”.

AGS to Power PlayAlberta with Content through Pariplay Fusion

AGS to Power PlayAlberta with Content through Pariplay Fusion

Pariplay, a leading iGaming content aggregator, has inked a new agreement with American Gaming Systems (AGS), a provider of gaming solutions and titles for operators. As a result, AGS content has been onboarded to the aggregator’s Fusion platform and is now live in Alberta.

Pariplay Will Provide PlayAlberta with AGS Content

Under the agreement, AGS content is now live through PlayAlberta.ca in the Canadian province of Alberta. This notably makes AGS the first Fusion studio partner in the province.

The two parties will now leverage the Fusion platform to power PlayAlberta.ca with AGS’ in-house games. These include fan-favorite titles such as Capital Gains, Tiger Lord and Golden Wins that will launch in Canada, allowing local gamblers to enjoy premium gaming experiences.

The expansion of PlayAlberta.ca’s content offering was made possible by the partnership between Pariplay and NeoPollard Interactive, a leading provider of lucrative North American iLottery programs.

The Pariplay Fusion platform now offers more than 14,000 games from over 80 studios to the aggregator’s partners. In addition, Pariplay clients can enjoy a rich selection of robust back-office conversion and retention tools, helping them establish a loyal player base.

AGS Is Excited to Launch with Pariplay

AGS Interactive is very excited to make a foray into Alberta and become Pariplay Fusion’s first partnering studio in the province. Stuart Carr, AGS’ senior vice president, spoke about the agreement. He praised the fusion platform for its broad product offering and said that he is happy that AGS’ games will now be a part of that portfolio. Carr concluded that his team may expand the agreement with Pariplay and its Fusion platform and launch into other regulated jurisdictions as well.

This launch provides us with a great platform for further expansion across the continent in tandem with Pariplay and Fusion.

Stuart Carr, SVP, AGS

AGS, according to Carr, is ambitious about cementing itself as a leading supplier in North America. The launch with PlayAlberta is a thrilling opportunity for the company since it is the province’s only legal iGaming site.

Adrian Bailey, Pariplay’s managing director, also commented on the agreement. He lauded AGS as a reputable slots developer that is capable of engaging players across both the iGaming and land-based verticals.

To take its [AGS’] content live in Alberta through PlayAlberta.ca is a great moment and a first step in our important mission of delivering the widest range of third-party content to operators and their players in the province.

Adrian Bailey, MD, Pariplay

Bailey concluded that he is looking forward to seeing customers’ reactions to the supplier’s innovative titles.

Meanwhile, Pariplay recently welcomed Slotmill as its latest Ignite partner.

National Safe Toys and Gifts Awareness Month

Preventing the Link Between Crime & Problem Gambling

As adults, we understand the holidays are to be celebrated alongside loved ones and others. But for young children and adolescents, there’s another part of the holiday excitement – receiving gifts. The Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling (FCCG) encourages parents, family members and others to leave lottery games and scratch off tickets off their children’s gift lists as we celebrate National Safe Toys and Gifts Awareness Month. The FCCG is again joining forces with the National Council on Problem Gambling’s Gift Responsibly initiative to educate communities on the risks of youth gambling.

Youth Gambling Risks

Problem gambling prevention starts with children. Gambling is illegal in Florida for persons under age 18 and while many adults believe lottery games and scratch offs are harmless, they can be a gateway to gambling for minors unable to fully grasp associated risks. Research shows the earlier a person is exposed to or participates in gambling during childhood, the likelier they are to develop a gambling problem later in life. As exposure to gambling often occurs during adolescence, several studies reveal adolescent problem gambling prevalence rates 3 to 10 times higher than adults.

According to the NCPG [1]

  • 10-14% of adolescents are at risk for developing a gambling problem.
  • 4-6% of adolescents presently have a serious gambling problem.
  • Many young people report their first gambling experience between ages 9 and 11.
  • Almost 60% of high-school-aged adolescents report having gambled for money in the last year.

Youth-Targeted Gambling Marketing

Parents and others are not solely responsible for mistaking lottery games as appropriate gifts for minors. The marketing of gambling products has long pushed the boundary of explicitly targeting minors with the use of colorful, “cute” or well-known children’s characters in campaigns. This year, Addams Family scratch-offs hit stores in several states to draw in buyers [2].

Beyond the gambling industry, many video games feature gambling activities not reflected by their Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) ratings. ESRB ratings provide essential information to parents and others, enabling them to make informed purchases. Today, adults need to be attentive to the games children play and the time they spend on computers, cell phones and other devices.

You Can Help Prevent Youth Problem Gambling

This holiday season and beyond, help the FCCG continue raising awareness of the associated dangers of youth gambling. Beyond understanding that lottery products are not child appropriate, here are several suggested guidelines that can help when speaking with minors:

  • Explain what gambling is and how it works.
  • Provide insight that gambling is not a way to make money because most times people lose
  • Advise how gambling addiction, like alcohol/drug abuse, impacts upon persons of all ages.
  • Set/stick to family rules about screen time/cell phone and web use.
  • Educate about warning signs of gambling addiction.
  • Pay attention to behavioral/emotional/lifestyle changes.

The 5 Smallest Casinos in the World

Saloon Number 10 casino

The word casino immediately conjures up images of grand halls, filled with rows of flashing slot machines and endless table games. Huge meccas like Las Vegas and Macau spring to mind, providing everything from hotel accommodation to high-end cuisine. Yet when it comes to casinos, bigger is not always better.

Some of the most unique experiences can be found in the smallest of places. Below, we discuss the 5 smallest casinos in the world that you must visit.

Deltin Caravela Casino

To venture into this casino, you need to travel to Goa, India. The Deltin Caravela Casino markets itself as a flotel and is housed on a small cruise ship. Once onboard, it will take you on a journey down the river Mandovi.

Having the casino on a boat is not so much a novelty as a necessity. Gambling is forbidden in most parts of India, except when it takes place on the water. 17 tables host classic games of roulette, variations of poker, blackjack, baccarat, and slots amongst others. Of course, being a small casino means that space at the tables is limited. However, having the hotel and casino on one boat does gave them their fabulous motto which is that “The house always wins, but who cares when you live in the house?”

North Cadbury Court

North Cadbury Court resides in the green hills of Somerset, England. The building itself dates back to 1580 and is a Grade I listed building, meaning it has extremely important historical significance. While the building itself is large, it the basement sits one of the world’s smallest casinos.

The house is now used for events, such as weddings and corporate meetings. The casino is not open to the public but if you hire the venue you can request to use its casino facilities. These include full-sized casino tables in the subterranean vault. It can only fit around 30 people inside, and the venue will hire a croupier from outside for you.

Taxi Casino

This casino unfortunately no longer exists but makes it onto the list for its sheer unique premise. Set up in the UK for the 2016 summer of sports, it housed a very small but efficient casino in the back of an iconic Hackney Carriage. Primarily based in the city of Birmingham, it then did a tour of the country before getting decommissioned.

The taxi contained a single gaming table, which a croupier sat behind. You could also access online gaming facilities, as well as drink from the fully stocked bar. If this was not enough, a range of televisions allowed you and your friends to watch the sport going on around the country. For such a unique idea it’s surprising the concept has never been revived.

Slots-A-Fun

It still may not be as small as some of the other casinos on the list but Slots-A-Fun prides itself on having the accolade of being the smallest casino in Vegas. It opened in 1971 on a site that was previously occupied by the Circus Merry-go-round. By 1979 they had grown famous for handing out free popcorn to pull in the punters and did so well, that by 2009 they were bought out by one of the huge casino chains.

Back in the day, it had a lot of table games, such as craps and blackjack, that could be played for low wagers. Its focus has now turned to electronic games and slots. As well as casino classics, it also has a small bar and bowling alley if you fancy a change in pace.

Saloon #10

Saloon #10 can be found in the famous town of Deadwood, USA. Made famous by the series of the same name, it also has genuine historical importance. It was here that Wild Bill Hickcock died holding aces and eights, bringing the term dead man’s hand into existence.  The saloon is as much a museum as it is a casino. Amongst the artefacts and trinkets of the gold rush era inhabitants hides a small casino, hosting four blackjack tables and 75 slot machines that visitors can play.

Bet365 Made Many World Cup Bettors Rich

Bet365 Made Many World Cup Bettors Rich

The FIFA World Cup is finally over, with Argentina’s team celebrating victory. Bet365 customers also celebrated as many of them won prizes thanks to their clever sports bets and predictor wagers. The operator said that the $122,000 prize for its pre-tournament free-to-play Tournament Predictor game has been won. In addition, around 15,000 punters shared a payout of $488,000.

Freeth Talks about the Numbers

According to Steve Freeth, bet365’s PR man for soccer, the 2022 World Cup Final was all about the spectacular clash between Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe. Freeth noted that many experts believe this final to be the best of all time. He is sure that many bettors now believe so too in the wake of their winning bets.

Argentina had been top of bet365’s outright liabilities for some time, having been backed from 8/1 into 11/2 in the lead-up to Qatar and they weren’t put off after the opening game defeat to Saudi Arabia. La Albiceleste drifted out to 9/1 but that would prove to be but a minor bump in the road.

Steve Freeth, bet365

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi was backed for the Golden Ball with odds going from 12/1 to 8/1. The soccer pro was also backed for the Golden Boot with 16/1 turning to 10/1. Freeth noted that bet365 barely dodged one of these bets. At the same time, the operator reported that many people took up its 33/1 bet about Enzo Fernandes’ claim for the Young Player of the Tournament trophy – a prize he ended up winning.

Another wager bet365 had to pay out was its 2 Goals Ahead Early Payout offer. Freeth said that the country’s team already cost the operator “a few quid” when it lost a 2-0 lead against the Netherlands and has now cost the operator even more by surrendering another two-goal lead.

Because of Mbappe, Argentina failed to win in 90 minutes and completed the Mbappe & Messi Shot on Target Super Boost, taking bet365’s payouts into 8 figures. In addition, the operator’s spokesperson reported that the Extra Time Extra Chance offer paid out bets that would have been losing ones but were not since the game had been prolonged into extra time.

Bet365’s Super Boost concerning Mbappe and Messi shooting on target (4/6 to 6/4) was the operator’s most costly boost since both athletes fulfilled the condition and also landed their shots. In the meantime, the Early Payout Offer saw Argentina paid out as a winner in the 90 minute market. This was all thanks to Angel Di Maria who fired home in the 36th minute. Furthermore, all Bet Builders looking for Argentina to win in 90 minutes were counted as winning ones.

Bet365 managed to avoid a few payouts when Giroud and Dembele were substituted before half-time. However, these bets did not benefit bet365 either as they were voided thanks to the operator’s Substitute Guarantee.

Lastly, the operator listed a few selections that landed in extra time through its Extra Time Extra Chance market:

• Messi to score 2 or more
• Mbappe to score a hat-trick
• Messi extra SOT
• Mbappe extra SOT
• Mac Allistar extra SOT
• Paredes to be Booked
• Montiel to be booked

Tournament Predictor Results

One amazing sports pro managed to score 830 points in bet365’s Tournament Predictor. Each correct prediction in the group stage netted them 10 points while each correct prediction in the final 16 netted 20 points. Since many of the fan-favorite teams were performing well, many players managed to boost their Tournament Predictor score.

A correct prediction in the quarter-finals was worth 40 points, although a few players could not cash in on that, because of a few unexpected developments. A correct semi-final prediction netted 80 points and predicting the victor correctly earned sports fans 160 points.

As mentioned, the top 1 player took $122,000 back home. The second and third places were awarded $30,000 and $18,000 respectively. 13 players tied for fourth place and each one was awarded $12,000.

Parlay Bettor Cashes Out Just in Time to Make $283,538 from $26 as France Lose World Cup Final

Mbappe shirt

Incredible timing

A US-based bettor has just turned $26 into $283,538. Not only that, but he made the cash from a losing wager. Shortly after France came up short in the FIFA World Cup final in Qatar on Sunday, the Twitter account br_betting celebrated Daniel Forte’s decision to cash out just in time:

VegasSlotsOnline News has followed Forte’s seven-leg parlay closely over the course of the World Cup. He just needed France to win the soccer tournament to make $557,000 from a $26 stake. Forte ultimately decided to cash out for just over 50% of the total payout before France could take on Argentina in the final.

the French could do little to prevent Messi

France ultimately suffered defeat in dramatic fashion. Masterclass performances from star men Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe drove the game to a 3-3 draw by the end of extra time. Ultimately, the French could do little to prevent Messi from finally getting his hands on the trophy after a penalty shootout.

The journey

Forte first placed his parlay in March this year. It included a range of sporting competitions from nations across the globe, including the NCAA, the NBA, the Stanley Cup, MLS, Serie A, the English Premier League, and the FIFA World Cup. He backed France at odds of +650 at the time.

With just a World Cup win for France separating the bettor from a huge payday, FanDuel Sportsbook gave Forte multiple chances to cash out. The sportsbook offered $80,000 before the tournament kicked off, and then $83,000 once France reached the quarter finals. He decided to let the bet run.

Of course, with a six-figure payday on the line, the World Cup proved particularly tense for the bettor. France certainly made it a little easier for Forte by breezing through the competition despite a number of player absences through injuries. The French dispatched of England and Morocco with relative ease in the quarters and semis to make the final.

Mbappe scored two in quick succession

The final was no walk in the park for Argentina either. Despite leading 2-0 for most of the first 90 minutes, Mbappe scored two in quick succession to take the game to extra time. Both teams scored once more before Argentina defeated France 4-2 on penalties to prevent successive World Cup wins for the 2018 champions.

With his $283,538 in the bank, Forte got to celebrate one last time:

Twitter reacts

Twitter users have had plenty to say about Forte’s decision which br_betting deemed “THE GREATEST CASH OUT IN SPORT BETTING HISTORY.” One user called @HotalingNick was full of praise for Forte, confessing that he would have handled things differently if the bet were in his hands:

Another called @Drizzz_ highlighted the astonishing fact that Forte placed the seven-part bet around nine months ago:

Checkd Group and Xtremepush Team for Better Player Personalization

Checkd Group and Xtremepush Team for Better Player Personalization

The partnership should result in an increase for the Betting Hub app and UK and US brands, an official press statement details. Xtremepush focuses on omnichannel customer engagement platform solutions that should enable Checkd Group to pursue more ambitious player-acquisition strategies.

Building Tailored Approach in Personalization with Xtremepush

Xtremepush analyzes mobile and web users, collates data, and offers data-driven and contextualized insights that then translate into personalized messaging which leads to better results for partners.

The engagement specialist also prides itself on delivering what it calls a “hyper-personalized approach” which leads to a significant boost in online conversion rates. Checkd Group’s Betting Hub app will not be the only one to benefit, with the FlashPicks, Footy Accumulators, and The Winners Enclosure websites benefiting from the technology on both sides of the Atlantic.

Checkd Group should leverage this new expertise and partnership to boost its own operator partners in engaging with their customer bases. Commenting on the partnership, Checkd Group Alex Beecham said that the company was always on the lookout to improve its engagement strategies and that Xtremepush gave it a significant improvement.

This has to do with the way Checkd Group personalizes and tailors content. “This new partnership serves as further evidence of our desire to continue product innovation with CRM solutions that will increase the active player base for our operator partners,” Beecham said.

Xtremepush’s Jack Oliver was similarly pleased with the new tie-up. He highlighted the strengths of the platform and added:

Our platform provides Checkd Group with the advanced toolset that it needs to further increase the retention potential across all their brands by delivering relevant notifications and emails to its customers.

Xtremepush’s Jack Oliver

Oliver is confident about what he has described as a mutually successful partnership moving forward. Checkd Group has been looking to expand and grow its geographical footprint over the past months.

The company made a successful debut in Ontario, Canada, and has pivoted strongly towards the regulated sports betting markets in the United States. The addition of Xtremepush is another guided effort to achieve further recognition and reach.

Reflex Gaming, Yggdrasil Team up for New Mechanics in UK Retail Market

Reflex Gaming, Yggdrasil Team up for New Mechanics in UK Retail Market

The brands’ alliance focuses on the introduction of Game Engagement Mechanics (GEMs) which will be rolled out on the land-based market in the country. Reflex Gaming will tap into Yggdrasil’s GEMs and bring them to various retail venues across the UK, including betting shops, pubs, arcades, and other recreational venues.

Reflex Gaming is not a chance pick of a partner either, as Yggdrasil and the company have worked together under the YG Masters program since 2020. A total of 11 online titles under the program have been released with Reflex Gaming’s help, many of which had incorporated GEMs.

Some of the more prominent games the pair have worked on include Desperate Dawgs 2 and Dublin Up DoubleMax. Among the other games that Yggdrasil has developed to feature GEMs are Gigablox, Splitz, DoubleMax, WildFight, and DuoMax, to name a few. The new partnership is of particular importance as it allows Yggdrasil to expand its GEMs into the land-based sector.

The two partnerships enhanced and synergistic capabilities can significantly expand and boost the overall casino offer now brought forward by the two. Yggdrasil head of product & programs Stuart McCarthy welcomed the opportunity and said that strengthening the partnership with Reflex Gaming to bring the GEMs into the land-based space was an important milestone for his company. He added:

We have already had great success together, releasing a number of high-performing online titles to players and we are thrilled to now take this to the retail sector. This deal is a testament to the strength of our GEMs and the potential it has to take the player experience to a new level.

Yggdrasil head of product & programs Stuart McCarthy

The partnership was similarly hailed by Reflex Gaming CPO Mat Ingram who said that Reflex was extremely pleased to now have the opportunity to bring GEMs to the land-based market in the retail market. It’s an opportunity to bring awareness for the YG Masters program, Reflex, and Yggdrasil’s own product offering, and generally help the companies embark on another successful collaboration across the board.

Ingram is confident that the success the two companies had under the YG Masters portfolio will now translate into the same solid performance for the land-based market as well.

Daniel Negreanu Busts from WPT World Championship on Four-Outer

Daniel Negreanu Busts from WPT World Championship on Four-Outer

The deep run is over for Daniel Negreanu in the WPT World Championship, thanks to a bad beat during Sunday’s Day 5 session.

Negreanu was eliminated in 17th place for $176,200, an impressive run considering there were 2,960 entries in the $10,400 buy in World Poker Tour season-ending tournament. But the manner in which he exited, and the achievements he missed out on because of the bad beat, were a killer.

Rough Way to Go Out

daniel negreanu wpt poker
Daniel Negreanu reacts to WPT World Championship bad beat.

Entering the historic event, “DNegs” needed a top six finish to catch Carlos Mortensen as the all-time WPT money list leader and $301,000 (12th place or better) to pass Mortensen for first on the Main Tour leaderboard.

An opportunity to overtake the lead presented itself on Day 5 as the GGPoker ambassador was dialed in, focused, and playing sound poker. But then it all came crashing down at the hands of Lucas Foster at about 6:30 p.m. with the blinds at 200,000/400,000.

Negreanu had opened to 800,000 from the button with {2-Spades}{2-Clubs} before Foster, in the big blind, three-bet to 2,300,000 with {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}. With a small pocket pair, the original raiser wasn’t going anywhere in position, so he called and saw a flop of {10-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}, a dream for “Kid Poker.”

Foster made a sizable continuation bet of 2,500,000 and received a call. Both players saw the {10-Spades} on the turn, pairing the board. Once again, Foster came out aggressive and put his opponent all in for 5,000,000.

Negreanu snap-called and was way out in front with one card to come. Only four cards in the deck — two 10’s and two kings — could send him home. If anything else were to come, he’d be sitting on over 50 big blinds and back into contention for the $4.1 million first place prize.

Check out the WPT Hub on PokerNews here!

To make a long story short, the river was the {k-Spades}, giving Foster a better full house and sending Negreanu to the rails in 17th place. Although he earned $176,200, he didn’t come to the Wynn Las Vegas because he needed money. He was there chasing a WPT title and to crack the $50 million lifetime mark in live tournaments. Instead, he left with another deep run, but not a tournament victory.

“I felt it again! I felt it in my bones!” Negreanu said as he exited stage left. “I always feel it. I wish I couldn’t,”

Although Negreanu had a rough 2022 World Series of Poker, losing $1.1 million for the summer and took a brutal bad beat on Sunday, he’s actually had quite an impressive year of poker. In October, he took down the $300,000 buy in Super High Roller Bowl for $3.3 million, and of course he ran deep this past week at Wynn in one of the largest tournaments in poker history.

At the time of publishing there were 13 players remaining in the WPT World Championship out of the original 2,960. The tournament will play down to the final table of six before the session concludes, and then everyone remaining will come back on Tuesday to determine a champion. We’ll have a full recap of the day when it wraps.
