Nick Maimone Ending 2022 on a High; Reels in $114,000

Poker players from around the globe hit the online poker tables with renewed vigor over the weekend as they attempt to end 2022 on a high. Nick Maimone was one such person, and it is fair to say he achieved his goal of padding his bankroll with only a week remaining of the current year.

Maimone took down two high-stakes tournaments at GGPoker. First, he triumphed in the $1,050 Sunday Main Event HR for $80,332 before being the last player standing in the $1,500 Sunday Saver High Roller Hyper Turbo for an additional $34,090.

The $1,050 Sunday Main Event drew in 427 players, who created a $427,000 prize pool. All but one of the nine finalists saw a prize of at last $10,000 hit their GGPoker accounts, China’s “Iaobanfish” being the only finalists to miss out; they banked $8,033.

Israel’s Ravid Garbi, Roman Hrabec, “Super Liar,” and Dorel Eldabach crashed out one by one, leaving only four players in contention for the title. Those four became three with the exit of “Loris51,” then two when Sergei Denisov‘s deep run ended in a third-place finish.

Maimone locked horns with Austria’s “Mr_Jiben” in the heads-up battle and came away unscathed with the $80,332 top prize in tow. The runner-up walked away with $60,240 for their efforts.

Chris Klodnicki added the $320 GGmasters Bounty Winter Freezeout title to his long list of poker accomplishments when he came out on top of a 1,421-strong crowd and banked the lion’s share of the $422,037 prize pool.

Klodnicki won $40,590 for his victory, more than double the prize of runner-up “girafgringo7” of Brazil, who reeled in a $19,100 score. The likes of Luis “Xapilskinha” Garla, Tyler “stakekings” Hancock, and Patricia “PatriciaLD” Dery all reached the nine-handed final table but fell short of becoming the tournament’s champion.

HypnosisMass Leaves Fellow Titans in a Trance

Malta’s “HypnosisMass” caused a major upset in the $5,200 Titans Event at PokerStars after they left a trail of superstars in their wake at the final table. Seasoned pros such as “drew.derzh,” Andreas “daskalos20” Christoforou, Andrey “Anjeyyy” Novak, and Michael “imluckbox” Addamo were present and correct at the star-studded final table, but none of them progressed deeper than sixth place.

Estonian grinder “DingeBrinker” fell in fifth, Samuel “€urop€an” Vousden in fourth, before Ronan “Sw33ney” Sweeney busted in third. “flerrehuve” Denies Astedt High Roller Victory

Niklas Astedt
Niklas Astedt fell in second place

One hundred and nine players bought into the $1,050 Sunday High Roller at PokerStars, and it was Sweden’s “flerrehuve” that was the last player standing.

After such luminaries as Tomi “elmerixx” Brouk, Gediminas “Gedis92” Uselis, and ” mamamamama70″ bowed out, all eyes were on Niklas “Lena900” Astedt, who looked like winning yet another major online tournament.

Astedt navigated his way to heads-up, where he faced fellow Swede flerrehuve, which translates to “multiple hoods” or “many hats.” Both players locked in $11,104 from the main prize pool, leaving the five-figure final bounty up for grabs. Astedt uncharacteristically fell at the final hurdle and added only $625 to his haul. Flerrehuve, on the other hand, saw another $16,640 make its way to their account for a total prize worth $27,744.

Brentford vs Tottenham Premier League Odds, Time, and Prediction

Brentford vs Tottenham Premier League Odds, Time, and Prediction

The 2022-23 Premier League Boxing Day action kicks off with the Brentford vs Tottenham game. The Spurs are seen as odds-on favorites, but their odds have started moving against them. The (probable) reason is that several of their key men stayed in Qatar until last Sunday, which is not the case for Brentford’s players.

The Bees have been preparing for this game for weeks, so we can only expect a good performance from them on Monday. But will it be good enough to win point(s)? Let’s find out!

Brentford vs Tottenham Odds

Moneyline Odds
Brentford +300
Draw +240
Tottenham -110
Over/Under Odds
Over 2.5 -125
Under 2.5 +110

When, Where, and How to Watch?

  • Place: Brentford Community Stadium in London
  • Date: Monday, December 26, 2022
  • Time: 7:30 AM ET
  • How to Watch: NBC

The Bees have Had Weeks to Prepare for This Game

Although a couple of Brentford players did go to Qatar to take part in the 2022 World Cup, their key men stayed in England. This includes the Bees’ scoring leader Ivan Toney, their goalie David Raya, and many others.

Further, even those who did travel to Qatar did not spend too much time there. In fact, all of Brentford’s World Cup players returned after the end of the group stage. What this means is that they’ve had plenty of time to rest and prepare for the duel with the Spurs.

The Spurs to Miss a Couple of World Cup Finalists

Sunday, December 18 was the day when the 2022 World Cup Final took place, which saw Argentina beat France on penalties after 120+ minutes of play. The players who took part in that game will probably skip the Boxing Day action – the French players are probably way too tired, while the Argentines are both tired and hungover after celebrating their first World Cup title in 36 years.

This is bad news for Tottenham, because two of their players played in that game – goalkeeper Hugo Lloris (France) and central defender Christian Romero (Argentina). Further, Ivan Perisic played for Croatia in the match for the 3rd spot one day before the final.

Not having these three on the roster sure is a major blow for Antonio Conte’s team. However, bad news do not end there – the Spurs also have a couple of injured player who will miss Monday’s game, most notably full-back Ryan Sessegnon.

Brentford vs Tottenham Prediction

Brentford is a team that just loves playing big games. This season, we already saw the Bees beat Manchester City and Manchester United, can they do the same against Tottenham? We think they might! And if they do it, it’s going to be their first-ever win over this rival.

Picks: Brentford to win; over 2.5 goals

MGM Springfield Gets Green Light for Massachusetts Sports Betting

MGM Springfield Gets Green Light for Massachusetts Sports Betting

MGM Springfield is the second casino in the Bay State to have cleared the bar for a sports betting license from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, which did not come without its challenges. For one, MGM Springfield missed a deadline which forced the commission to postpone a vote.

MGM Springfield’s License: Long Time in the Making

Regardless, the Monday hearing was a success with the commission seeing no objection to MGM Springfield’s bid to become the next licensed operator to offer sports gambling products. The original meeting that was due on December 7 had to be deferred until yesterday, as MGM Springfield did not provide sufficient answers to questions about BetMGM, the brand that will help provide many of the in-person betting services as well.

Essentially, the commission needed further insight into the technology and compliance with rules across the United States that BetMGM demonstrated. Among the questions that MGM Springfield had to answer were some hardballs, such as a question by Nakisha Skinner, a commissioner, who tasked the property with explaining how it would remain in control of its sports betting operations when BetMGM would be carrying out much of the actual day-to-day betting operations. She said:

I think all of the issues that we’d be concerned about in connection with their category three application, they’re present and very much an issue in their role as a vendor for MGM Springfield.

However, attorney Jed Nosal for MGM Springfield argued that BetMGM is just a service provider whether MGM Springfield will be in charge of the sports betting operations at the casino. Essentially, there is not much difference between the relationship the company would have with BetMGM and the way it runs its slot machines.

Some matters were addressed behind closed doors, including the way that patron data-sharing policies between BetMGM and MGM Springfield would work. Another hot-button topic was the lawsuit brought by former employee Chelan Brown against MGM Springfield which accuses the casino of providing inadequate diversity numbers.

Lawsuit Against MGM Springfield Lacks Substantial Evidence

Nosal assured that the property was prepared to prove that the complaints and claims against the casino were falsehoods and denied the allegations. There is a lack of any evidence, let alone “substantial evidence,” Nosal concluded tersely. Despite these challenges, MGM Springfield managed to complete a $4-million lounge that is fully equipped to accommodate sports bettors and features amenities such as a 45-foot screen, a bar, wagering counters, betting kiosks and so much more.

For all the perceived difficulties and challenges, BetMGM has shown unfaltering conviction in the success of its sports betting bid with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

Gambling Laws in Texas ✔️ Your Guide to TX Gambling Laws 2022

History of Gambling in Texas

Texas is certainly not a gambling-friendly state. Most of the traditional casino games are illegal and prohibited for both Texas residents and visitors. These include slots, poker, blackjack, roulette, sports betting, etc. There are merely a few legal gambling activities in the state, among which are the state lottery and charitable gambling activities. Read this article further to learn more about the gambling laws in Texas.

History and Gambling Legal Status in Texas

It is no secret for anybody that Texas is one of the most conservative states in the United States. Initially, gambling in the state was made illegal in 1920, when the 18th Amendment to the US constitution, known as Prohibition, went into effect. Among other things, Prohibition banned all forms of gambling activities throughout the whole country.

In 1933, Prohibition was repealed and ended by the 21st Amendment to the American constitution. Following these changes, many of the U.S. states dropped their ban on gambling. Texas, however, decided to keep the limitations and truly little has changed ever since.

Interesting fact:

Illegal casino establishments were widely popular in Texas during the Great Depression Era. Benny Binion was an infamous Texas gangster who was running illegal gambling operations in Dallas-Fort Worth, Dallas. He later relocated his operations in Las Vegas, Nevada where he opened the Binion’s Horseshoe Casino, now called Binion’s Gambling Hall & Hotel. Binion revolutionized poker by creating the World Series of Poker tournament and ended with his name in the Poker Hall of Fame (which he founded).

Under Texas State Law, engaging in illegal gambling activities is considered a Class C misdemeanor, and offenders are subject to a fine of $100. Intentional promotion of gambling activities, on the other hand, is punished as a Class A misdemeanor with a maximum fine of up to $4000 and up to one year imprisonment.

Evidently, the state is going after the illegal establishments rather than individual offenders. This is understandable since they are trying to eradicate the root cause of the illegal gambling issue. Have a look at the table below, including the different games and their current legal status in the state:

Gambling Activity Legal Status
🎰 Casino Games Illegal
🏈 Sports Betting Illegal
🏆 Daily Fantasy Sports Betting Legal
🐴 Horse Race Betting Legal
🐩 Greyhound Race Betting Legal
🥇 Lottery Legal
💯 Charitable Gambling Legal
💻 Online Gambling Legal

Casino games are off-limits in Texas. Social gambling is permitted. Sports betting is illegal except for daily fantasy sports betting and pari-mutuel horse and greyhound race betting. The Texas State Lottery was made legal in 1992. Charitable gambling activities such as bingo, pull-tabs, and raffles are legal. Online gambling is legal in offshore casino sites only. There are no commercial, land-based casinos in Texas apart from two operating Native American casinos – Kickapoo Lucky Eagle in Eagle Pass, Texas and Naskila Gaming in Livingston, Texas.

Texas State Lottery

As previously mentioned, the Texas State Lottery was legalized in 1992 under chapter 466 of the Government Code – The State Lottery Act. The Texas Lottery is operated by the Texas Lottery Commission. Only authorized and licensed retailers could sell lottery tickets. Players should be 18 years of age and older to participate in the games. The legal age for the rest of the gambling activities in Texas is 21. Currently, the Texas State Lottery includes the following games:

  • Powerball®
  • Mega Millions®
  • Lotto Texas®
  • Texas Two Step®
  • All or Nothing™
  • Pick 3™
  • Daily 4™
  • Cash Five™
  • Scratch Tickets

The Texas Lottery is donating a significant amount of its yearly profit in support of Texas veterans and Texas education programs. According to its website, since 1992, the lottery has generated more than $33 billion in revenue for these and other noble causes.

Horse and Greyhound Race Betting in Texas

According to Texas laws on gambling, offline horse race betting and greyhound race betting are legal in the state. Pari-mutuel betting was first legalized in Texas in 1933 to raise money during the Great Depression. It was later banned in 1937, only to be legalized again in 1987. Simulcast wagering at tracks was legalized in 1991. These activities are overseen by the Texas Racing Commission.

Horse Racing Texas

All bettors must place their bets in person at a licensed track. Some of the most popular horse racing tracks in Texas include the Lone Star Park, Sam Houston Park, and Retama Park. The greyhound tracks are the Gulf Coast Racing and Valley Race Park. The famous Gulf Greyhound Park in La Marque, Texas, closed in June 2020 after 29 years of operation.

Daily Fantasy Sports Betting in Texas

Daily fantasy sports betting gained popularity in Texas in 2014. Since then, there have been some rather contradicting opinions about its legal status. On the one hand, some argue that this is partially a game of chance which makes it illegal according to Texas laws on gambling. On the other hand, however, the truth of the matter is that daily fantasy sports betting is not particularly mentioned in any Texas State or Federal Law, which means it is legal.

…odds are favorable that a court would conclude that participation in paid daily fantasy sports leagues constitutes illegal gambling… Ken Paxton, Texas State Attorney General

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is one of the opposers of DFS betting. In 2016, he issued an opinion that Daily Fantasy Sports betting is illegal. At that point, Daily Fantasy Sports betting operators such as FanDuel discontinued offering their service in Texas. DraftKings remained open for Texas players and sued the Attorney General for twisting the law. The case is still pending. However, nowadays, both FanDuel and DraftKings accept players from the Lone Star State.

Charitable Gambling Activities in the State of Texas

Charitable raffles, bingo, and pull-tabs are legal in Texas and regulated by the Texas Lottery Commission. Charitable bingo and pull-tabs were legalized under the Occupations Code, chapter 2001, the Bingo Enabling Act. According to this act, only specific non-profit organizations qualify for operating a bingo hall in the state. The Texas charity Bingo games include the following two categories:

  1. Bingo games – Reno Blackout, Large Picture Frame, Crazy Kite, Double Bingo No Corners, Double Bingo Corners Counted, Coverall, Corner Bracket Any Corner, 4 Postage Stamps Corners Only, and Block of Nine
  2. Pull-tabs games – Lightning Betty Boop, Cashcars, Pirate’s Booty, and Lightning Elvis

Charitable raffles in Texas were legalized under the Charitable Raffle Enabling Act, chapter 2002, from the Occupations Code. According to this act, each qualified organization may hold two raffles per calendar year. There are no cash prizes offered, and any profit from charitable raffles must be donated for charitable purposes.

Land-Based Casinos in Texas

According to Texas gambling laws, commercial casinos on the territory of Texas are illegal. As of the time of writing this article, there are only two land-based Native American casinos, which are regulated under the U.S. Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. These are the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle, owned by the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe and the Naskila Gaming, owned by the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe.

Both casinos offer class II gaming activities including bingo and video games. The video game machines may look and feel like slots, but they are bingo-type slot machines or eight-liners that offer small cash prizes of a maximum of $5 or no real money prizes at all.

Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino
Kickapoo Lucky Eagle The Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino & Hotel is located in Eagle Pass, Texas. It offers slots, poker, and bingo games. With over 3300 slots in its portfolio, Kickapoo Lucky Eagle is the biggest commercial casino in Texas.
Naskila Gaming Casino
Naskila Gaming Naskila Gaming Casino is located in Livingston, Texas. It offers over 800 bingo-type slot games, including some of the most popular titles, such as Colossal Wizards, Queen of the Wild II, and more.
Carnival Valor Cruise Casino
Carnival Valor Carnival Valor is the biggest of the two available casino cruises in Texas. Once the luxury cruise ship reaches international waters, the casino is opened for play by cruisers. It includes a variety of slot games, live table games, poker, and casino tournaments.
Liberty of the Seas Cruise Casino
Liberty of the Seas Liberty of the Seas Cruise Casino is leaving from Galveston, Texas. It is a luxurious cruise offering casino games in international waters. The gambling activities include live table games, slot machines, poker rooms, casino tournaments, and more.

There are also two available casino cruises in the state. These are the Carnival Valor and Liberty of the Seas. How riverboat casinos work is they travel into international waters where gambling activities are legal. Up until that point, the casinos onboard remain closed. Once the ship reaches international waters, they open for all gambling enthusiasts to try their luck with real money traditional casino games, including slot machines, live table games, casino tournaments, and more.

All You Need to Know About Texas Online Gambling Laws

According to Texas laws on gambling, registering and operating an online gambling site is illegal. However, online gambling at offshore casino sites and sweepstakes casinos is not exclusively forbidden in the state. This means that online gambling is legal, and there are no Texas internet gambling laws under which internet gamblers could be prosecuted.

Texas Online Gambling Laws

The available sweepstakes casinos for Texas players are Global Poker for online poker, Chumba and LuckyLand for casino games, such as slots, scratch cards, table games, etc. Texas’s main social sports site is FendOff. All of them are not real money casino sites. You can play for fun using Gold Coins which have no monetary value whatsoever, or Sweeps Coins which in some cases could be exchanged for cash prizes such as gift cards. No deposits are required to be paid before being able to play at a sweepstakes casino.

Before registering at an online gambling site, make sure to check and confirm that the operator is fully licensed and regulated, and 100% legitimate for Texas players. It is important to ensure that your personal data is properly secured and you can play without any worries.

Texas Gambling Laws Conclusion

To this date, Texas remains the state with the most rigorous gambling laws in America. The conservative state has banned most of the traditional gambling activities leaving quite limited options for Texas gamblers. They could play for real money at casino cruises and offshore casino (make sure to review our US online casino guide). Social gambling is permitted if no “house” is making any profit. Horse race betting, greyhound race betting, and daily fantasy sports betting are also legal.

A few attempts have been made to change Texas laws on gambling and legalize gaming at least partially. The latest attempt was made earlier this year by Rep. John Kuempel, R-Seguin, and Rep. Toni Rose, D-Dallas in the House, and Sen. Carol Alvarado, D-Houston, in the Senate. The legislation was backed by the Las Vegas Sands Corporation.

It aimed to establish a Texas Gaming Commission and enable casino licenses for four destination resorts in Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin. The legalization of sports betting has also been included. As of the time of writing this article, however, any attempts to change the gambling laws in Texas have not been successful. No significant changes to Texas gambling laws are expected in the future. For reference, have a look at the New York gambling laws, which are among the most liberal in the country.

Watch Chicago’s Dave McGowan Pull $250K Bounty at WPT Wynn; Ren Lin Nabs $150K

Watch Chicago’s Dave McGowan Pull $250K Bounty at WPT Wynn; Ren Lin Nabs $150K

While the World Poker Tour (WPT) $10,400 World Championship was playing down to a final table, Wynn Las Vegas was busy hosting another one of its popular Mystery Bounty tournaments.

The $1,600 buy-in event attracted 3,715 entrants over a trio of starting flights, and on Monday the surviving 404 players returned for Day 2 action. They were already in the money but were also battling for bounties ranging from $500 up to $250,000 in addition to 15 Virgin Voyage Cruise Packages that had been added.

Up for grabs was a top bounty of $250,000, while four $100,000 bounties were available. From there, players had a shot at eight $50K bounties and 10 bounties apiece at the $25K and $10K price point. There were also $5,000, $2,500, $1,000, and $500 bounties available.

Dave McGowan

It took just over four hours of play when the field had been reduced to approximately 130 players before the big $250,000 envelope was drawn. Dave McGowan, a 40-year-old from Chicago who works in finance, had scored five eliminations and was waiting for the right time to redeem his tickets.

He used two up and drew small bounty amounts, and then just before the second break of the day decided to redeem the other three.

“I had five bounties. I definitely got lucky on at least two of the five,” he said. “My girlfriend, Jackie, has been here with me all week. I texted her that I was going to pull, so I asked her to come down and watch. My buddy Todd came too. Having friends and loved ones watching makes it even better.”

He continued: “I feel pretty good. I understand how lucky I was to pull it. Really happy about it, obviously. This event has been fantastic and this is the cherry on top. I think in these tournaments you have to understand what the bounties are worth, and I tried to amass as many chips as I could and then calling very light to exploit that.”

McGowan is no stranger to poker success in Vegas. Back in October 2021, he finished runner-up to Gediminas Uselis in the MSPT Venetian $1,600 Main Event for $210,202. Not including the bounty, McGowan has nearly $600K in lifetime tournament earnings according to the Hendon Mob.

The best part is McGowan isn’t done. As of publication, he still has chips and not only an opportunity to go deep in the tournament but also at more bounties.

“I think they say it’s better to be lucky than good, and I think I have to agree at this point,” he said. “But we’re still in this tournament, we have a bunch of bigs, so it’d be pretty sweet to take the $250K and then run deep in this thing.”

Ren Lin’s Back-to-Back Big Draw

Ren Lin
Ren Lin

Back in October, GGPoker team member Ren Lin had a deep run in the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic at Bellagio, ultimately finishing in eighth place for $129,000. He was able to top that amount on Monday thanks to a pair of back-to-back big envelope draws.

On the second break of the day, Lin got in line to redeem some tickets. One of them was for a $50,000 bounty, and while that was thrilling, the next one was twice as good as he pulled $100,000!

Like McGowan, Lin was still alive in the tournament, which meant he had more opportunities at big money. The tournament isn’t expected to conclude until the early morning hours of Tuesday, but PokerNews will be sure to include results in our next side event recap from the WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas.

Shaun Brassington on Mercenary X Release and bet365’s Originals Portfolio

Shaun Brassington on Mercenary X Release and bet365’s Originals Portfolio

The game comes fused with NoLimit City’s “xMechanics” and is one of the most significant titles to appear in the company’s library and prompt GamblingNews to seek input from Shaun Brassington, bet365 head of games software production, who tells us more about the game, its origins, and the company’s ambitious “Originals” series.

Q: Shaun, can you tell us about the success of the “Originals” project over the past couple of years?

Hi, we went live with our first in-house developed games in March 2018. This was a few core titles including Blackjack, Roulette, Baccarat, and a selection of more classic and simple slots in order to introduce our players to ‘Originals’. It was a really exciting and nervy period but we quickly realized the content was well received and we had faith in our ability to go on to create a high-quality, unique, and innovative experience for our players. In the five years since then, we’ve launched over 120 games covering all of the popular game types in order to give bet365 players our own take on each of them. For example, we’ve produced multiple table/card games, slots, instant wins, video pokers, Keno, and many more!

We developed our 8 Immortals jackpot slots series which is a more traditional progressive jackpot system and our Dual Drop Jackpots product. Dual Drop is available in 18 unique slots, which offers both a community jackpot that pays thousands of prizes when it reaches £100,000 and also a weekly jackpot that pays out aspirational sums to one individual every Sunday evening. Both jackpot products have proven to be very popular on-site and we’re looking to develop them further going forwards.

Q: How is “Originals” allowing you to service the bet365 customer base better?

In short, it enables us to be extremely agile, and react to industry trends and our players’ requirements very quickly. We can also experiment with unique features and themes which we may not have readily available from other suppliers which again helps us to learn more about what works and of course what doesn’t with our player base.

Entry into new and emerging markets is also easier as we have end-to-end control of the product so in general wherever you see bet365 gaming you’ll usually see the ‘Originals’ brand too.

Importantly we very much view ‘Originals’ as something which should be complementing the overall gaming experience we offer. That is to offer the best in class suppliers across the industry plus our own unique content which can’t be found anywhere else.

Q: You recently launched your newest in-house title, Mercenary X, featuring a range of mechanics from Nolimit City. How important is this release to you and why?

We were looking for an opportunity to do something different, something which isn’t out there yet and would give us a chance to give our players an experience they’ve not had with us so far. Nolimit City is one of the most innovative and entertaining suppliers around. They’re renowned for developing potent features such as their xWays®, xNudge®, and xSplit® mechanics to produce some of the very best content in the industry right now. We’re delighted to have the chance to bring these proven features into our own games, it’s been a great experience and one which we’ve tried to maximize.

Included in this game is our new multi-feature bonus buy which is available in markets where permitted. This allows the player to buy both Free spins, and Super Free spins features and also to activate ‘Mercenary Bet’ which at a cost of 3.5x stake will guarantee an xWays and/or xNudge landing on each spin as well as significantly increasing the chances of triggering Super Free Spins (by over 10x!). It’s a really fun way of playing the game.

Mercenary X has been live for over two weeks and the feedback is very positive.  We’re close to launching our next game featuring xMechanics. ‘Apocalypse Returns’ is a sequel to a game we released a few years ago called ‘Underground Apocalypse’ and is a Zombie/Survival themed slot that will focus on xWays and infectious xWays as well as having an extremely entertaining feature. This game will also utilize our multi-feature bonus buy so players will already have some familiarity here.

Q: What does the future of the “Originals” brand hold?

We’re really excited about the future for ‘Originals’, learning from results, and using data to help formulate some of the best exclusive and localized content out there. It’s an extremely fast-moving industry, whether that’s player requirements, technology advancements, industry trends, or regulatory landscape it’s important we don’t take our foot off the pedal.

It’s been a really fantastic journey so far and we’ve learned a lot along the way which we continue to apply to our products going forwards so watch this space!

Xpoint and BET99 Sign Ontario Geoverification Partnership

Xpoint and BET99 Sign Ontario Geoverification Partnership

Fast-growing geolocation technology services provider Xpoint added another partner to its roster of geolocation partnerships after signing an agreement with online sports betting and casino platform operator BET99.

Xpoint Verify to Enhance Customer Safety

As a provider of geolocation and compliance services to the sports betting, iGaming and fantasy sports markets in North America, Xpoint will provide Canadian-based operator BET99 with its Xpoint Verify product to ensure a safe, secure and fraud-free customer engagement for the operator.

Commenting on the agreement, Paul Nyzuk, chief technology officer at BET99, outlined that Xpoint is the perfect choice for a geolocation and geoverification services provider, offering more data points that can be used to detect fraud and “offering more data than other major geoverification services.”

“The partnership also fits with BET99’s mandate to leverage innovative technologies to deliver an online betting experience like no other,” Nyzuk concluded.

Following the partnership, Xpoint Verify is now live with BET99 in Ontario as the product has been embedded within the operator’s sports betting and online casino gaming platforms, allowing Ontario players a higher level of security in their engagement with the operator.

Growing List of North American Partners

Marvin Sanderson, chief executive officer of Xpoint, was delighted “to add the Canadian market-leading sports betting platform” to Xpoint’s “growing list of live partners” and help the operator continue with its rapid progress in expanding their brand’s reach in North America.

“As we expand our North American footprint, we’re building more tools and systems specifically designed to help our partners utilize their location-based data for fraud analysis and micro geofencing services,” Sanderson added.

Providing two geoverification technology products, Xpoint Lite and Xpoint Verify, Xpoint has already partnered with a number of operators in Canada and the US and is one of only two geolocation technology services providers holding a vendor license in New Jersey.

Among the list of its recent partners are fantasy sports platform Underdog Fantasy which inked an Xpoint Lite deal last week, Toronto-based sports, esports and casino operator Rivalry which hired Xpoint as its geolocation and compliance partner in November, iGaming operator PlayStar, and others.

To engage with sports fans in Canada, BET99 announced a partnership deal with former Toronto FC soccer player Sebastian Giovinco ahead of the FIFA 2022 World Cup. The agreement expanded BET99’s roster of popular sports personalities adding to the names of UFC Hall of Famer Georges St-Pierre, Toronto Maple Leafs’ young star Auston Matthews and two-time Olympian Alysha Newman.

Last month, BET99 became the latest member of the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA), willing to contribute to the organization’s efforts to protect sports integrity to the benefit of both consumers and businesses.

Drake and Notable Streamers Lose Big Money Betting on the World Cup Final

World Cup trophy

A ton of betting interest

The FIFA World Cup final beat everyone’s expectations when it came to drama and excitement. Not many people would have predicted the wild ups and downs that ultimately saw Argentina come out on top against France. With the game on Sunday miraculously ending 2-2 after normal time and 3-3 after extra time, the home of the trophy for the next four years had to be decided through a penalty shootout.

high-profile names revealed their big bets

No matter where in the globe you are, the World Cup is always a huge event for bettors. Massive sums are wagered on the games every time it rolls around. Some high-profile names revealed their big bets in the lead-up to the final and it did not go well for them.

Drake’s curse continues

Superstar rapper Drake has a history of high-stakes gambling. Whether it’s playing online roulette, betting on UFC fights, or wagering on soccer games, he likes to post screenshots of his confirmed wagers. While he backed the right team to win the World Cup final with a $1m stake, he had bet on Argentina to win in normal time. That meant that he lost out on a potential $2.75m payout and was down his $1m bet.

Drake has a partnership with online gambling platform Stake, which is one of the unregulated casino sites that was banned from Twitch streams in October.

Some people believe that Drake is cursed when it comes to betting, as many of his major wagers in recent months have come up short. That includes losing over $2m betting on Israel Adesanya to retain his UFC title last month.

No luck for big-name streamers

A number of notable gambling-focused streamers also lost big sums of money betting on the World Cup final. xQc was confident going into the game that France would come out on top. He had been saying since the first game of the tournament that the defending champions would retain the trophy. He placed $500,000 on France to win the game in normal time, with an estimated payout of $1.4m:

Trainwreck placed the exact same bet as xQc on Les Bleus. Roshtein backed France to win in normal time, placing $1m on his selection. He took to Twitter after the game to congratulate Argentina on their win, saying that it was “probably one of the best finals I’ve ever seen.”

Each of these three streamers has a long history of gambling large sums of money, so losing bets of this size is nothing new to them. They all made a name for themselves by streaming gambling-related content on Twitch up until the Amazon-owned platform banned the streaming of unregulated online casino games in October.
