Sun Shines on Fla Casino Sale, Application Redacted 98%

Sun Shines on Fla Casino Sale, Application Redacted 98%

The Florida Gaming Control Commission held off on approving the sale of Miami’s Magic City Casino to the Poarch Band of Creek Indians Thursday to allow more information about the sale to reach the public.

The pari-mutuel with over 800 slot machines has been owned and operated by the Havenick family since the early 1930s. As a parimutuel, it had primarily been a dog racing track for several decades but Florida voters ended greyhound races through a constitutional amendment in 2018.

The Florida Gaming Control Commission was put into action in 2021 and has a stated mission to, “preserve and protect the integrity of gaming activities through fair regulation, licensing effective criminal investigation, and enforcement.”

The proposed sale, which could still be completed before the end of the year, involves only gambling activities at the casino – other gambling operations owned by the Havenicks, including a Bonita Springs card room permit and summer jai-alai and card games in Miami would not be affected.

Highly Redacted Document

Over 100 pages of the 103-page application were redacted. In addition to the application, a four-page memorandum produced by the commission that recommended the sale’s approval was included in publicly available paperwork.

While gambling enthusiasm remains high in Florida, so does baked-in opposition from various forces. Some in the past have been associated with Disney by some reports, others connected to existing or potential operators trying to keep down the competition, and others yet, simply attributed to religious and other “moral responsibility” groups opposed to gambling.

The “advocacy” group, No Casinos Inc., asked the gaming commission to delay approval of the license transfer application so that the public could learn more about it. No Casinos president, John Sowinski said that the commission was created “to really elevate the public discussion and bring out in the forefront these types of decisions that are made about the gambling industry in our state,” according to a report in the SunSentinel.

Noting the level of redactions of content in the application, Sowinski, said: “The public should have the ability to see and kick the tires of everything that is not truly, truly a trade secret.”

Counsel for the seller, John Lockwood told commissioners the whole deal could fall apart if the deal isn’t closed within the next month.

This is such a simple and narrow transaction. I had no idea it was going to become such a hotly discussed topic at this commission,” Lockwood said.

Prior to the commission panel being created the application would have been approved or denied behind closed doors. Lockwood said he has worked with the commission since August.

I’m not taking the position that every single thing that we submitted to this commission is trade secret,” he said while promising “to provide a less-redacted document,” to the commission.

But again, I would implore the commission to not delay this transaction into next year because I do have fears as to what that would involve for this entire deal,” he said.

Sunshine Law Provisions Not Met

Commission Chair John MacIver said that while there was nothing objectionable in the application, he was concerned about compliance with Florida’s Government-in-the-Sunshine law, which is an open meetings law providing a right of access to governmental proceedings at both the state and local levels.

If there is an over-redaction of material that the public has not had an opportunity to consider prior to us taking action, I think it would be inappropriate for us to take action at this time,” MacIver said.

The Poarch Creeks already run two gambling facilities in the state but are most well known nationally for their Wind Creek Hospitality holding which purchased Sands Bethlehem in Pennsylvania for $1.3b in 2019. Wind Creek owns gambling facilities in Aruba, Curacao, Chicago, Alabama, and Nevada.

Legal representatives for the Seminole Tribe of Florida (Hardrock) asked the commission to move forward with caution as the translation oversight could set a precedent for future changes in ownership at gambling facilities.

Magic City’s counsel noted that intervention or objections to a change in ownership by third parties would be without any legal authority.

Chess and Poker Star Jennifer Shahade Running PokerStars Platinum Pass Contest

Chess and Poker Star Jennifer Shahade Running PokerStars Platinum Pass Contest

The unique and exciting $25,000 buy in PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC) is back next month for the first time since its inaugural year in 2019, and players all around the world have a shot to win a free entry, including those in the US and Canada.

Jennifer Shahade, a poker player and chess women’s grandmaster, is giving out a Platinum Pass, the most coveted prize in poker, to a lucky contest winner from the US or Canada. The PokerStars mindsport ambassador will hand out one ticket into the PSPC, along with $1,900 in expense money, flight to the Bahamas and a six-night stay at a five-star hotel, and some cool Platinum Pass winner experiences upon arrival.

In 2019, PokerStars first launched the PSPC, a tournament unlike any other because it gives anyone, not just the wealthy high rollers, an opportunity to compete in a high-stakes tournament for potentially millions of dollars. Ramon Colillas of Spain, who had almost no live tournament results entering the tournament, shipped the first PSPC for $5.1 million. As was the case with many of the participants in the field, the champ was a Platinum Pass winner.

Platinum Pass Contest Details

Jennifer Shahade

Who will be the next Ramon Colillas? Well, it could be a player from North America who wins Shahade’s competition, which began on Dec. 1 and runs until noon ET on Dec. 14.

The contest, according to a press release, asks players in the US and Canada to submit their most formative or memorable poker hand, explaining why that hand is so special. The submission should tell an interesting storyline for how the hand played out, perhaps highlighting a villain and explaining the strategies that led to the decisions made. Mixing in a bit of colorful humor certainly wouldn’t hurt your chances of winning.

Inspired by Shahade’s podcast, the GRID, which extracts instructive and entertaining poker hands for all 169 possible hand combos, the contest will see one lucky finalist be awarded a coveted Platinum Pass.

To be considered for the Platinum Pass, players must send an email to [email protected] and include an audio, video, or text file on Twitter, SoundCloud, YouTube, or Vimeo. Additionally, the email should have the player’s full name, country of residence, and 2-3 sentences about the player (basic bio information).

If posting the video on social media, contestants are required to use the hashtag #PlatinumPokerHand to be considered. Video submissions should be 1-6 minutes, and written blog post hand histories should be 300-2,000 words.

There will be a six-person panel judging the submissions, which includes talented pros Maria Ho and Sam Grafton. They’ll be critiquing the videos and blog posts based on creativity, presentation, insightfulness, flow, and overall impact.

From Dec. 15-19, Shahade will review the submissions and then select her top six. She will then send those over to the panel to determine a winner. The contest host will announce the winner on a special GRID podcast Dec. 30.

Jay-Z Teams up With Caesars for Times Square Casino in New York City

Jay-Z

Upping the ante

The eleventh-hour interloper in the multi-corporation gold rush for just three downstate New York casino licenses has upped the ante by adding star power to its pitch.

Jay-Z and his world famous entertainment agency, Roc Nation

For their Times Square casino project, the New York Post revealed Sunday, Caesars Entertainment and New York property developer SL Green (SLG) have inked a partnership with Jay-Z and his world-famous entertainment agency, Roc Nation. Fan account Jay-Z Daily shared a statement on the partnership from the billionaire entrepreneur via Twitter.

“New York is the epicenter of culture. We have the opportunity to create a destination at the heart of the true crossroads of the word,” the world’s most influential hip-hop artist said.

Landing such a heavyweight Brooklyn-born music and entertainment icon and his brand signals Caesars and SLG’s strategic, NY-culture embracing intent in the race for the three licenses.

With license applications opening on January 6, news of the Caesars-SLG-Roc Nation tie-up will likely get the marketing departments from rival bidding groups working overtime refining their proposals.

Major players make big moves

SLG’s annual investor conference on Monday is when — according to the NY Post’s Realty Check — the details of the Jay-Z-Caesars-SLG partnership will be announced. It’s expected, however, that Roc Nation will oversee entertainment programming at 1515 Broadway and other SLG Times Square properties.

thinking outside the pure casino-build box

That groups like Caesars and SLG are thinking outside the pure casino-build box, signals the intensity of the bidding war. This comes from the notion that the widely believed two favorites, Genting-owned Resorts World New York City in Queens and Yonkers’ Empire City Casino, practically have their licenses in the bag.

This essentially leaves just one license for which to fight.

Caesars-SLG’s bid, which came as a late surprise, is for Times Square, while Wynn Resorts-Related Companies are banking on Hudson Yards. Other interested bidders include New York Mets owner Steven Cohen (proposed site near Citi Park), the Soloviev Group (Midtown East), and Thor Equities Group, which has announced a $3bn bid for a Coney Island project. Add Vornado’s Steve Roth, who’s suggested a potential Herald Square bid, and it is clear that the industry’s biggest hitters are heading for a winner-take-all showdown in New York.

No New York gambling mecca

SLG has also used the Jay-Z headliner to nip a wrong perception in the bud, that the Caesars Palace Times Square casino project would be nothing but an oversized gaming pleasure dome. Instead, the New York Post cited SLG CEO Marc Holliday as saying the: “boutique-size casino […] would occupy only eight floors in the 54-story tower.”

Holliday also announced an approximately 800-room, five-star hotel at the site. This dovetails with SLG-Caesars getting onboard with certain aspects of the bidding criteria. Namely, that applicants will need to demonstrate to the New York state sitting committee how many quality jobs their gaming facility would create and how it would boost revenue for the locality and the state.

With Jay-Z now on board, the Caesars Palace Times Square bid has that entertainment X-factor base covered.

Sands China Inks $377M Trademark Renewal with LVS

Sands China Inks $377M Trademark Renewal with LVS

There is a lot of uncertainty about the region’s recovery, however, continued developments and large investments by operators are enough to make some more optimistic. Sands China is the latest licensee that’s had to make some changes to comply with Macau’s gaming law updates, and this trademark agreement is a natural step in the company’s operational procedures.

New 3-year Trademark Agreement

Sands China is the Macau-based arm of Las Vegas Sands (LVS), and it announced that its brand licensing agreement has been renewed for three years, starting January 1, 2023. The agreement is scheduled to last until December 31, 2025, and the license cost Sands China $377 million.

The current Second Trademark Sub-License Agreement expires on December 31, 2022, and the new International Trademark License Agreement will grant various Sands China subsidiaries, such as Venetian Orient Ltd, Venetian Macau Ltd. (VML), and others, access to LVS-trademarked brands. This follows an identical framework to previous agreements.

The new license agreement mandates Sands China to issue annual payments, which are calculated based on a percentage of the revenue that the group’s gaming (GGR) and non-gaming operations generate.
According to a report from World Casino Directory, the total payment of $377 million is divided into three predetermined installments capped at $114 million for 2023, $125 million for 2024, and the remaining $138 million for 2025.

Operators Preparing for Next Year

The announcement of the new trademark license agreement comes just a bit over a week after Sands China’s gaming concession renewal was made official. The company’s Macau operations received one of the six available licenses.

That came with some additional changes to accommodate Macau’s updated gaming laws. Namely, one of Sands China’s subsidiaries– VML – underwent a share capital restructuring, receiving a MOP$4.8 billion(almost $600 million) investment to keep in line with the new regulation.

Wynn Macau made a similar move, also aimed at complying with the new laws. It had to increase its own registered capital by a similar amount since all operators from the previous round of concessions were required to only hold around MOP200.1 million (approximately $24.6 million) in capital on hand.

Although the region’s gaming market is currently heavily affected by China’s zero-COVID policy, the latest updates to regulation were aimed at reducing the operators’ income dependency on gaming, mandating an increase in non-gaming revenue. This, coupled with the requirements for further investments by concessionaires, makes the outlook for the special administrative region (SAR) more nuanced.

However, the SAR is still cautious about its projections for the industry’s performance next year. This was clearly evident in its 2023 GGR target, which was set at MOP$130 billion ($16 billion) for the third consecutive year.

There are multiple factors at play, and the SAR is not sitting on its hands to try and avoid further decline in the industry. However, since neither another pandemic resurgence nor China’s related regulations are under the SAR’s control, the attentiveness surrounding projections for the region is understandable.

Fake Naked Breasts on Hustler Casino Live: Hilarious Joke or No Laughing Matter?

Fake Naked Breasts on Hustler Casino Live: Hilarious Joke or No Laughing Matter?

During “Max Pain Monday” on Hustler Casino Live, a regular on the show, Sashimi, wore a body suit that exposed fake large breasts, hilarious to some on poker Twitter and disturbing to others.

A video from Monday night’s stream surfaced on the internet, which led to some interesting comments.

Sashimi is an Instagrammer and YouTuber who often vlogs her poker sessions from Hustler Casino Live and also Poker at the Lodge, which streams from The Lodge Card Club in Round Rock, Texas.

Many Found Humor in It

In the clip, Hustler Casino Live commentator Kyle Ravreby, aka “RaverPoker,” as the camera zoomed in on Sashimi’s chest, giggled as he said, “I’m looking away from the screen right now. Sashimi, come on, please.”

Many others shared in his laughter with jokes on poker Twitter, including Bill Perkins and Matt Berkey.

“Sashimi is invited to my meet up games anytime,” poker vlogger Joey Ingram wrote.

“Seat open here in Maryland,” @RealIntrepid1 tweeted.

Crossing the Line?

But not everyone thought it was a laughing matter. Sherry Pluskota asked Hustler Casino Live to “do better.” Kyna England simply asked “why” would Sashimi feel the need to wear a body suit that exposed fake breasts during a streamed poker game. K.L. Cleeton was also none too thrilled and called out the popular live-streamed poker show.

“Welp it’s official and final – @HCLPokerShow is a joke and just objectively awful… There is zero that can be done to fully rebuild credibility,” Cleeton wrote.

Ryan Feldman and Nick Vertucci, co-owners of Hustler Casino Live, both responded to Cleeton’s tweet.

Danielle Andersen defended Feldman and the show when she wrote: “One of the things that makes HCL special is the willingness to let people be characters. The good, bad, ugly & sometimes politically incorrect being shown in all it’s entertainment glory. Don’t start censoring now bc a few people on the internet are mad.”

David Tuchman, a regular Hustler Casino Live commentator, disagreed with Feldman in that he shouldn’t have vetoed it because “it was hysterical.”

“I think the word you are looking for is awkward but to each his own,” Jami Lafay responded to Tuchman’s post. “Let’s remember that what men may see as no big deal women in poker may see slightly different because of their struggle to play. Women feel they don’t get taken seriously. I’m sure they have a different perspective often.”

“Max Pain Monday,” which airs, you guessed it, on Mondays, is a different kind of poker stream than most are accustomed to. Slow-rolling is encouraged, and the players don’t run it twice during massive all in pots. The game is more relaxed than most poker streams and the players all have fun and joke around. Without those elements, it wouldn’t be a true Max Pain Monday.

Sashimi is a regular on Max Pain Monday and is always one of the more colorful characters in the game. Many viewers enjoy watching her play each week. On this week’s episode, however, some felt she went a bit too far, while others absolutely loved it. A split decision is standard for poker Twitter on just about any issue.

Jamie Nixon Gets the Monkey Off His Back as He Takes Down GUKPT London

Spade royal flush

Nixon bests an elite field to bag £93,970

Last Sunday saw popular poker player, vlogger, and Twitch streamer Jamie Nixon take down the £1,250 ($1,530) Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) London Main Event for a career best £93,970 ($115,039). Better yet, he did it on home soil of sorts – Nixon is a Grosvenor Poker sponsored player.

347 brave souls took their seats in London’s prestigious Victoria Casino, 34 made the money, and when it got down to the final nine, the cream had risen to the top with Irish Open winner Ryan Mandara, WSOP Main Event Finalist Antonine Labat, and Bellagio Cup winner Killy Sidhu all still in the mix.

a significant marker for a great player who had never previously closed out a big live tournament

In the end, however, it was Nixon who emerged victorious from the talented final table, a significant marker for a great player who had never previously closed out a big live tournament. Nixon sat down with VegasSlotsOnline News on the heels of this fantastic score.

Interview

David K. Lappin: First of all, congratulations on the terrific result. When I messaged you the day after you won, you jokingly said “I finally didn’t bottle it.” Earlier this year, you had a trio of runner-up finishes in the Irish Open High Roller, PPC UK High Roller, and UKIPT London High Roller. Did you feel like there was a monkey on your back?

Jamie Nixon: Thanks very much mate! Yeah, it’s been a long time coming this one. As you mentioned, earlier this year, I had that string of three second places. They all came in the space of a month, so I think that was playing on my mind ever since. In London though, I felt zero pressure – probably because of the fact I was ill and was completely drained of energy! I’ve done a lot of work on the heads-up element of my game too, but fortunately I didn’t have to use much of it as it only lasted four hands!

DKL: It was a tough final table – as tough as any I’ve ever seen at Grosvenor events. Can you describe the final table from your point of view?

JN: The standard at the final table was very high and I’m actually good friends with Ryan Mandara, Kully Sidhu, and Mitch Hynam. I felt comfortable in that crowd, though, and knew that if I played my game, I’d be fine skill-wise. I came in with a decent stack, but dwindled for a while with the card distribution not doing me any favors, but fortunately, I ran well at the right time!

DKL: When you have had nice results in the past, have you ever splurged on something nice for yourself, or is it just money on the pile?

JN: I’m a family man so the majority of the splurges have had some purpose – a house deposit and a new car (although I splurged more than I should have on the car as I persuaded my better half Ellie to let me get a Range Rover). I’d say the majority of the fun spending money goes on meals out. My son Charlie has an expensive pallet and loves his sushi!

DKL: On a recent episode of “The Chip Race,” Dara said that your most striking feature is your “apparent total unflappability.” That’s a great quality to have as a poker player. It probably means that you rarely stray far from your A-game. If you had to identify a leak that creeps in, one that you have to watch out for, what is it?

JN: That’s very kind of Dara! I’d definitely say that I agree as I don’t really get stressed out at the table, which certainly helps. Leaks wise though, I would say I have loads. I’m probably not as studied 80bb+ as I should be, and I definitely need to work on that more. Also, despite studying heads-up a lot this year, I’d say I’m a long way from perfect! So next time I’m heads-up with Dara, he’ll know he can go for the kill!

DKL: One thing I’ve noticed is that, unlike a lot of poker players, you understand the value of a dollar. Whether that is because you had a job before poker or because you have a young family, it manifests itself in you being a very steady, responsible young man. Has that helped you as a poker player or hindered you as it made you more risk averse on occasions when there were good shots to take?

JN: Are you calling me a nit, David? Haha.

Yeah for sure, I’ve been pretty open in the past about how before poker, I wasn’t doing amazingly well financially. I was very much a month-to-month type of guy, as a lot of people are these days. I wouldn’t say that it makes me risk averse, as if I’ve got a big roll, I’ll definitely take shots. I just won’t take the sort of risks that could get me back to the position I was in before poker. I always need to have that buffer there. I would say it’s definitely helped me, as I’ve managed to build steadily.

DKL: You’ve posted a monthly vlog for the last two months at least. I assume this win will feature heavily in the next one?

JN: I’ve been more focused on live poker over the last nine months, so I’ve been unable to stream as often on Twitch. I realized that the obvious thing to do was to start creating vlogs to fill the void. They are a great way to look back on what you’ve done down the line too, rather than just having the memories.

It’s a funny thing actually, I did start it for GUKPT London on Day 1, but on Day 2 I fell ill with food poisoning and could barely lift my head up, never mind record video so I ended up not doing it, for the biggest win of my career so far! Run bad even when I’m winning, right? I’m going to try and put something together from other people’s videos and the live stream footage though!

DKL: For the last few months, you’ve been hosting a “Vegas Home Game” in which there is a leaderboard to ultimately give away a £10,000 ($12,242) Vegas package. Can you tell me more about that?

JN: I’ve been running a weekly home game on Grosvenor Poker for a number of years now and the latest promo is to take a couple of people to Vegas in Summer 2023. The competition is ongoing until the end of December!

Each month we have a leaderboard for my home game and the top three players from each month go into a final (played in January) where they’ll be joined by the top three each month in my fellow pro Katie Swift’s league. In that final, two players will win a package to go to Vegas, as well as lots of others winning a number of tournament tickets! It’s all added value, too, so it’s great to be able to run something like that.

DKL: A few years ago, you came on “The Chip Race” to do a strategy segment. Some strategy guests bring successful bluffs or hero calls that they made but you brought a hand that you described as “the worst hand I ever played.” I think that speaks volumes for you and the way you always put ego to one side in the pursuit of improvement. So…have you played a worse one since?

JN: Probably a load of them! I did play one recently which I’ll say is worse, not because of how I played it but because it nearly got me beaten up!

I was in Cyprus a couple of weeks ago for the $3k main and we were in a three-bet pot. We got to the river on a four-spade board. I had AQ so I elected to put in a large river bluff. My opponent (a very large, scary looking Turkish guy) tanked for five minutes before calling. I said “good call” whilst tabling my hand, only to see the Q♠ not the Q♣, which beat his set! He was fuming, throwing the chips at me as well as flipping his seat over! I thought he was going to kill me, but fortunately I got moved table two hands later, otherwise I might not have made it home from Cyprus!

DKL: Ha, ha, we’ll I’m glad you got home in one piece and once again, huge congratulations on the brilliant result.

GUKPT London Main Event Final Table Results

  1. Jamie Nixon – £93,970
  2. Kully Sidhu – £64,980
  3. Phil Clarke – £39,630
  4. Mitch Hynam – £24,995

  6. Justin Tsui – £12,140
  7. Ryan Mandara – £9,285

Croatia vs Brazil 2022 World Cup Odds, Time, and Prediction

Croatia vs Brazil is the first game of the 2022 World Cup quarterfinals. These two have met only twice in competitive games and Brazil triumphed each time. The last time it happened was at the 2014 World Cup when Neymar scored two goals. Are we going to see him do something similar again? Keep reading to see what we think!

  • Time: 10:00 AM ET
  • How to Watch: FOX/Telemundo

Reigning World Cup Runners-Up Hope for a Miracle

Croatia got to the quarterfinals after finishing second in Group F and beating Japan in the round of 16. They finished second in their group with a 1-2-0 record – they defeated Canada 4-1 and played 0-0 with both Belgium and Morocco.

In the first round of the knockouts, they defeated Japan on penalties after the game finished 1-1 in regulation. Their goalie Dominik Livakovic was the hero of the day after saving three penalties. Add to that another two clean sheets and you’ll understand why Croatia’s keeper now looks like a very good bet for the Golden Glove market.

He’s currently priced at +1600 to win the best goalkeeper award, but his odds are going to shorten drastically if Croatia manage to knock Brazil out. They will certainly do all in their power to do so, probably by going with an extremely defensive strategy on Friday morning.

Brazil Needs to Tear Down Croatia’s Defensive Wall

The Checkered Ones are one of the teams that’s very hard to score against. But if there’s a team that can find the net against Croatia, it’s Brazil. We saw Tite’s boys score four goals in the first half in the round of 16 game against South Korea. Before that, they scored a total of three goals in the group phase.

The most impressive fact about Brazil’s performances in Qatar is that five different Brazilian players have scored so far. That said, they have plenty of weapons in their arsenal. However, there’s a worry that they might be too offensive, especially with Neymar playing in the midfield.

He sure can create a lot of chances for Brazil, but we wonder whether he’s going to produce much defensively.

Croatia vs Brazil Prediction

This is going to be a real thriller. Brazil is favored to win for a reason – A Seleção have much better players than Croatia.

However, finding the net against the reigning World Cup runners-up is not going to be easy. GK Livakovic is in fantastic form, while Croatia’s defensive line is very tough to break. Further, with captain Luka Modric in the midfield, Croatians might be able to keep Brazil far away from their goal.

All of this means that we might not see too many goals on Friday. And if we do, we might see them on both ends. In turn, the game could easily go to extra time or even to penalties.

Picks: Draw in normal time

PokerStars and Red Bull Racing Partnership “Just Getting Started” After Successful 2022 Season

PokerStars and Red Bull Racing Partnership "Just Getting Started" After Successful 2022 Season

It’s certainly been an action-packed first Formula 1 season since PokerStars announced a partnership with Oracle Red Bull Racing back in January.

Not only have players been able to winonce-in-a-lifetime F1 experiences, but thousands of dollars in prizes have been awarded in Chequered Flag Freerolls and Pitstop Cash Drops over the course of the season.

And to round out the season in style, PokerStars got together at Red Bull Racing’s headquarters in Milton Keynes for a special wrap party to celebrate the success of the partnership and help raise money for ‘Wings for Life’, a not-for-profit spinal cord research foundation with a special charity poker tournament.

PokerStars and Red Bull Racing Looking to the Future

In addition to the tournament, PokerStars Presenter and Commentator James Hartigan chaired a panel between Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner and PokerStars Director Of Partnerships, PR and Consumer Engagement Rebecca McAdam Willetts.

Red Bull Racing PokerStars Partnership

McAdam Willets was asked what the next steps are after such a successful first year of partnership.

“We want to do things that reach out to the Red Bull Racing fan base,” she said. “Just heighten their experience and take it to a new level. We’re obviously excited about Las Vegas and the return to Monaco. In 2022 we had a yacht right by the track, so who knows what we’ll do next.

Epic Scenes as Formula 1 Car Drives Through Vegas Casino

“There’s also some new content that you will have seen being teased, so we’re excited about that. We’re just getting started!”

James Hartigan Rebecca McAdam Christian Horner

Meanwhile, Horner was asked what the similarities were when it comes to both Formula 1 and poker.

“I suppose we’re always looking at how we can improve car operations, support drivers and just get better. It’s never enough. Complacency has no place, certainly in Formula 1.

“We’ve got some massive opponents and they’ll be turbocharged this winter, having taken a bit of a drubbing. They’ll want to come back and give us a hard time next year.”

Ambassadors and Qualifiers Enjoy Exclusive Red Spade Pass Experience at Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix

The panel also discussed who within the Formula 1 paddock they would want to come up against across the felt.

“Bernie Ecclestone,” Horner said. “There are a lot of drivers who play; [poker] is hugely popular. The problem is they spend too much time playing, and we have to get them in the car at some point!”

“I’d love to have all the team principals around one poker table,” said McAdam Willets. “We’ve seen what [Sergio Perez] can do when he played in Brazil, but we need to get Max [Verstappen] and Christian together for a game!”

Health Warnings for Gambling Won’t Have Effect, Says BGC Study

The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), the industry body representing the gaming and betting industry in the UK, released details of a new study that probed into the potential of introducing mandatory health messages in an effort to reduce problem gambling.

Brits Disapprove Gambling Compulsory Health Warnings

On Tuesday the BGC released the results of the study which was conducted by YouGov. The new white paper points out that an overwhelming majority of the public in the UK considers that Government health messages like the ones used for cigarettes, won’t prove to be effective against problem gambling.

The results of the new study reveal that 71% of the interviewed individuals do not believe such messages would be effective. In contrast, only 3% showed support for “enforcing compulsory health warnings on betting products” and admitted that those warnings would be very effective.

Focusing on free bets, 47% of the participants in the study acknowledged that banning such promotions won’t reduce the rates of problem gambling. Similar to the previous result, only a tiny segment of the public, or 8%, responded that banning free bets will prove to be “very effective at preventing problem gambling.”

Problem Gambling Rate Is Only 0.3%, Reminds BGC

The results of the new study come amid proposals from anti-gambling groups that seek to implement bans on promotions such as free bets and enforce mandatory health messaging for gambling products. Still, the BGC reiterated that there are 22.5 million adults that gamble every month by participating in online casino games, visiting a casino, playing bingo or buying lottery tickets. From that total, only 0.3% of the adult population is impacted by problem gambling, the BGC reminded. What’s more, the council said that the rate of problem gambling in fact dropped from 0.4% for the previous year.

According to the BGC, the gambling ads ban in the UK during live soccer games helped significantly reduce the exposure of children to betting ads by 97%. At the same time, the Council acknowledged that the industry supports the creation of a non-statutory Ombudsman to help with the prevention of gambling harm and reduce the rates of problem gambling.

Problem gambling rates in the UK are low and have fallen, but still the anti-gambling lobby – prohibitionists who just want to ban things – are pushing for draconian measures which will only stigmatize those who enjoy a harmless flutter.

Michael Dugher, chief executive of the BGC

Michael Dugher, BGC’s chief executive, said that the problem gambling rate was low and has fallen even further. However, he acknowledged that tough measures are proposed by the anti-gambling supporters that may impact people who are enjoying gambling responsibly. Such measures, according to Dugher, can impact the market negatively and push gamblers toward the dangerous unregulated gambling market. Finally, he compared the proposed restrictions to the ones that are used for tobacco and pointed out that betting activities need an entirely different type of regulation.
