Latino-Targeted Hotel-Casino in North Las Vegas to Make US History With Next Week’s Opening

North Las Vegas on a map

A US first

When Ojos Locos Sports Cantina Y Casino and the freshly renovated Hotel Jefe in North Las Vegas open for business next week, the pair will make US history.

first hotel-casino targeted specifically at a Latino market

The result of a partnership between Fifth Street Gaming (FSG) and Ojos Locos Sports Cantina, Monday’s opening will debut the US’s first hotel-casino targeted specifically at a Latino market. Las Vegas Locally shared the news via Twitter:

Las Vegas casino management company FSG and its Texas-based partner, the Mexican restaurant and sports bar chain Ojos, kick off their joint venture in a totally rebranded Lucky Club Hotel & Casino.

Citing a press release, the Las Vegas Review-Journal said the collaboration’s centerpiece was an Ojos Locos Sports Cantina in the middle of a “10,000-square-foot casino with a capacity of nearly 300 people.”

Community-tailored gambling hub

Lucky Club was already popular among North Las Vegas’s Hispanic community, as well as truckers. It remains to be seen if the old crowd takes to the new joint, with its fresh lineup of a sportsbook, 200 slot and gaming machines, and 35 seats at the restaurant’s video poker bar.

potential new attraction comes by way of the “Mexican Hooters” tag

Another potential extra attraction comes by way of the “Mexican Hooters” tag Ojos’s vice president of growth, Laura Caudillo, admits customers have identified her company with in the past.

In a statement, Caudillo said the FSG partnership enabled Ojos to bring its “first-ever Ojos gaming experience to market.” The Ojos exec added her firm looked forward to “welcoming the Latino community” to the hotel-casino’s “flagship location.”

Cheeky change

Eater Las Vegas, meanwhile, cited Caudillo as stating the new establishment “caters to the Latinx community through staff, language, and atmosphere.” She added that 80% of the music played at Ojos is of Latin origin, while most of its staff speak Spanish, and that signage “is written in Spanish, often with cheeky innuendos.”

The exec also said the refurbished hotel-casino’s restaurant had a deliberate “unfinished look,” Caudillo said the corrugated aluminum resembles patrons’ construction sites, but is still attractive.

“It’s nice, but not so nice that they don’t want to come in in their work boots.”

5 Best Moments In NFL Playoff History

5 Best Moments In NFL Playoff History

Every sports fan knows that the playoffs are where true legends are made. After all, professional sport is not about taking part.

Every player, coach, and fan desperately want to win, and if you put a run together in the playoffs, you could go down in history.

Here are some of the biggest stories from the history of the NFL playoffs, including some all-time great wild card teams that will forever be in fans’ hearts.

New York Jets – 2009

If you’ve followed the NFL for any length of time, you’ll know that the New York Jets and the playoffs don’t exactly go together like a hot dog and ketchup.

The Jets have qualified for the playoffs just 14 times in their history, which is a pretty terrible record considering over a third of the other teams didn’t even exist when the Jets were founded in 1960.

But, that all changed in the 2009-10 season when the Jets and head coach Rex Ryan reached the AFC Championship game, only to be denied a Super Bowl spot by the Peyton Manning-led Indianapolis Colts.

Ever heard of him? Me neither.

The Jets reached the playoffs as wild cards after finishing second in the AFC East division.

They beat the third-ranked Cincinnati Bengals and second-seeded San Diego Chargers on the way to the Championship game, but no one even gave them a chance of making the playoffs when they slumped to a 4-6 record after 10 games.

Sportsbooks, commentators, and fans alike were equally shocked by the Jets’ performance.

Despite falling short, the Jets’ playoff antics went down in NFL folk law, and many fans still remember their run fondly.

New York Giants – 2007

Eli Manning. [Image: Mike Morbeck/Wikimedia Commons]

Thanks to a poor season in 2006, expectations were low for the Giants in 2007. Head coach Tom Coughlin and starting QB Eli Manning were both under massive pressure.

Eli wasn’t helped by the fact that 2004 draft alumni Ben Roethlisberger and Philip Rivers were leading their respective teams with aplomb, while his older brother was reigning Super Bowl champion and MVP.

The season started badly, too, losing their first two games. However, the team recovered to an overall record of 10-6 and clinched a wildcard spot in the playoffs.

Again, no one gave the Giants a chance to go deep, with Eli Manning having never won a playoff game before.

That quickly changed when the Giants claimed a 24-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and were off to the races.

They followed this up with a win over the Dallas Cowboys and an overtime victory against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game to book their place in the Super Bowl.

Surely glory was a step too far, as the Giants faced the Patriots and Tom Brady, who already had three Super Bowl wins to his name.

But the Giants would not be denied, and following an incredible play by Eli Manning and David Tyree, which has since become known as the “helmet catch”’ (with just 1.15 on the clock in the final quarter), they secured victory.

This made the Giants just the fifth team in NFL history to win the Super Bowl as a wild card team and confirmed the greatness of the Manning football dynasty.

Baltimore Ravens – 2000

Defense wins championships; just ask Super Bowl XXXV winners, the Baltimore Ravens.

After qualifying as a wild card, the Ravens dominated their opposition throughout the playoffs with outrageous defensive prowess.

Remarkably, the Ravens’ defense gave up just 23 points to their playoff opponents in total across four games.

Their offense struggled throughout the season but did their job as they dominated the New York Giants in the Super Bowl, running out as 34-7 victors.

Regarded as one of if not the greatest NFL defense of all time, the Ravens were led by 13-time Pro Bowler Ray Lewis.

The hall of famer was named Super Bowl XXXV MVP and was inspirational throughout the playoffs.

He recorded 31 tackles, two interceptions, 9 pass deflections, one fumble recovery, and a touchdown during the run. Big game player.

The Baltimore Ravens rightfully take their place in NFL playoff history. Maybe one for the purists, though.

New England Patriots – 1985

The Patriots are synonymous with success over the last two decades in the NFL, largely due to the Belichick/Brady combination that brought no less than six Super Bowl wins to Foxborough.

Belichick (six) and Brady (seven) top the lists of head coaches, and quarterbacks with the most Super Bowl wins in history. Not too shabby.

But, before this dynamic duo changed the face of modern football, the Pats didn’t have a single Super Bowl win to their name.

This was despite the best efforts of the 1985 team, who, against all odds, made the Super Bowl, only to be outdone by another all-time great defense, the Chicago Bears.

Noticing a theme here?

The Patriots became the first team in NFL history to win all three road games on the way to the Super Bowl, beating the Jets, Raiders, and Dolphins, respectively.

No one in the league gave this a chance, especially because the Patriots were beaten by all of these teams in those stadiums in the regular season.

It wasn’t to be in 1985, but it was still an all-time great playoff run.

And it worked out alright for the Patriots in the end, too. Good things come to those who wait.

Pittsburgh Steelers – 1972

The greatest moment in NFL playoff history, and possibly NFL history in general, came between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Oakland Raiders in the AFC Divisional playoff game in 1972.

Widely known as the “Immaculate Reception,” a play of sheer madness saw the Steelers score a touchdown while trailing 7-6 with just a few seconds remaining in the game.

It was fourth down, and there were 22 seconds on the clock.

Steelers QB Terry Bradshaw was under huge pressure from the Raiders’ defensive line. He scrambled out of the pocket and dodged a tackle before throwing the ball toward his running back, John Fuqua.

The pass was overthrown, and the Raiders safety Jack Tatum broke it up, and that was game over. Or so it seemed…

The ball actually cannoned off Tatum’s helmet. It ricocheted up into the air and the grateful arms of the on-running Steelers fullback, Franco Harris.

He picked the ball up on about the 40-yard line, evaded the scattered Raiders defenders, and ran the ball home for a touchdown.

Although the Steelers lost the AFC championship game to the Miami Dolphins the following week, this game will always be remembered for this single play alone.

The play has to be seen to be believed and the shock on the faces of the Raiders’ defenders said it all.

They were incredibly unlucky to lose in such a way, but for everyone else, it was a play we’d never forget.

Top 5 Largest Twitch Donations of All Time

Dr. Lupo

Twitch’s live-streaming platform is where many entertainers make their life’s earnings. And often, viewers shell out hundreds or thousands of dollars to support their favorite content creators.

even the streamers themselves didn’t know what to think

Some donations seen on Twitch have been so mind-blowing even the streamers themselves didn’t know what to think. Now, VegasSlotsOnline News will look at five of the biggest legitimate donations ever given on the Amazon-owned streaming platform.

1. Dr. Lupo – $1m

One million dollars is quite a sum of money, and during a charity stream, popular Twitch streamer Dr. Lupo received exactly that amount from Twitch itself.

Benjamin Lupo, otherwise known as Dr. Lupo, had a target to raise $2m for cancer research during a charity stream for St. Jude. Even after a sizeable joint donation from Mr. Beast and Ninja, Dr. Lupo still raked in a singular $1m from Twitch:

Though some noteworthy donations are purposefully seeded to boost the visibility and popularity of the site, Twitch’s monster move still stands today as the largest donation in the history of the streaming platform. However, since then Dr. Lupo has dropped Twitch and signed an exclusive deal with YouTube Gaming.

2. Ninja – $100,000

Anyone familiar with Twitch has likely have heard of the streaming icon Ninja. Ninja (Richard Tyler Blevins) is a popular professional gamer that soared to stardom by playing the battle royale video game Fortnite.

Like Dr. Lupo, Ninja received a mammoth donation while streaming for charity. During the GuardianCon charity stream, he received a $100,000 donation from an anonymous donor. GuardianCon is a gaming convention that donates its proceeds to St. Jude.

The name of the anonymous donor was never given, but Ninja was evidently blown away by their generosity. He responded with:

“Are you out of this world!?”

3. ExoticChaotic – $75,000

A natural reaction to getting a donation of thousands of dollars is blatant disbelief. That’s precisely what Fortnite streamer ExoticChaotic (Dallas Whitaker) displayed when he received a donation of a whopping $75,000.

Often, only high-profile streamers get monstrous donations, and ExoticChaotic wasn’t necessarily a big streamer when he received the third-largest donation in Twitch history. Immediately after receiving it, he logged into his PayPal account to confirm it was legitimate.

It was gifted to him by a Twitch user named KingMascot, who was an early Bitcoin investor and a friend of ExoticChaotic. He knew that Whitaker was having a rough time streaming and wanted to use his wealth to support his friend:

4. CouRage – $70,000

After challenging Jack ‘CouRage’ Dunlop to win a Fortnite game, Mr. Beast and Miniminter joint-donated the streamer a stunning $70,000.

Mr. Beast has already made a name for himself as an entertainer, philanthropist, and charitable giver. Estimates suggest that he has given away more than $20m to thousands of people since his first video on YouTube.

the pair donated $100,000 on that day

The streamer confirmed that he and Miniminter actually contacted a number of different content creators on the same day to let them know they would receive substantial rewards if they won their next Fortnite Solos match. Ultimately, the pair donated $100,000 on that day, the largest portion going to CouRage.

5. Amouranth – $70,000

Amouranth is one of the top female streamers worldwide and is currently the most-viewed female streamer on Twitch. Her largest-ever donation was gifted to her in person:

More specifically, after opening a package on stream, Amouranth discovered that an anonymous viewer had sent her $70,000 in cash. The unknown box also contained a brand-new iPhone, self-defense weapons, and phone numbers for pre-paid “bodyguards.”

Though she confirmed on-stream that the funds seemed legitimate, there’s been no further confirmation on whether or not the money was, in fact, real.

Mohegan Shoots for Lower Manhattan Casino License

Mohegan Shoots for Lower Manhattan Casino License

Mohegan Gaming is joining up with Soloviev Group to throw its hat in the ring for one of three downstate New York casino licenses. While the partnership wasn’t widely known until a late January announcement, the Soloviev Group’s digital literature on the proposed project is dated November 2022.

Mohegan Gaming isn’t specifically named in the PDF brochure, only a reference to an “opportunity to partner with a casino partner who shares our vision, commitment to excellence and who is best suited to operate such a groundbreaking endeavor for the City of New York.”

However, according to an article in the New York Times, Mohegan Gaming is partnering with the long-time owner of nearly 7 acres in Midtown, New York to build and operate a casino to be built underground with a park and giant Ferris wheel on top. Amenities would include a hotel, residential and retail areas, and four acres of green space, which group founder Stefan Quinn Soloviev has dubbed Freedom Plaza.

Manhattan Waterfront Underground Casino

Soloviev purchased the 6.5-acre waterfront plot from Consolidated Edison in 2000 for $600 million.

The location is near the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. The plot of land is the largest contiguous piece of undeveloped property in Manhattan. Approvals have already purportedly been given for 2.75M sq ft of mixed use development. The company has owned the plot “shovel-ready” for over 15 years, waiting for the right opportunity to present itself.

The company mentions that the East River Entertainment District addition would extend the current East River Waterfront Renewal project, adding to the existing waterfront parks, bike lanes, pedestrian seating, and basketball courts along the two-mile-long Esplanade.

Soloviev Group CEO, Michael Hershman said that the project was “beyond a casino”.

As currently imagined, the project would feature a raised podium & public park with retail and amenities. The company explained that a layered plan would maximize the available space while cutting down on towers, and would result in more open space for the community.

Illustrations of the concept are labeled as “approved buildable plans” and show a narrow band of lowest-level underground parking topped by casino, restaurant, and retail space spanning the entire width of the property.

Open Spaces Everywhere

Atop is a domed park and recreation area with several residential towers – one version holds a commercial tower at one end – another shows a new museum for New York City at the other end – the “world’s first museum dedicated to the celebration of freedom and democracy.”

More detailed architectural art shows a massive Ferris Wheel centered on top of the park’s central “dome”.

If current architectural drawings are predictive of the final plot, open spaces would not be confined to ground level or rooftops – some of the mirrored glass towers that could have a hotel, residential, or commercial spaces inside, have sections of a level and entire floors open to the elements with greenery and grass.

The New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) announced a Request for Application for three full-scale Las Vegas-style casino licenses first written into law after a 2013 voter referendum. Mohegan is one of the last to announce plans with the only other highly anticipated announcer being Hard Rock International – but that announcement may never come. The company has played its cards close to its chest with a possible venue only a few miles away at Meadowlands in New Jersey.

CEO and President of Mohegan Gaming, Ray Pineault said: “Mohegan is known for the wide array of extraordinary experiences and exceptional service we provide our guests – but it is truly our culture, values, and commitment to our community that set us apart as an organization.

“Our rich Mohegan heritage provides the foundation for how we operate our business and guides our commitment to our employees, our approach to guest services, and our relationship with partners and the communities in which we operate and serve. We look forward to infusing our “Spirit of Aquai,” our guiding philosophy, into New York State.”

Mohegan Gaming is no stranger to large or unique projects. One of its largest endeavors to date has been INSPIRE Integrated Resort Co., Ltd. Korea. Mohegan INSPIRE is building the largest resort in Northeast Asia. It’s located at Incheon International Airport in Yeongjong-do. The project will be completed in 4 phases through 2046.

Phase One is under construction and features 3 five-star hotels (approximately 1,200 rooms), an arena with 15,000 seats (multipurpose performance hall), an indoor water park, convention facilities, a foreigner-only casino, a digital street, and an outdoor family park.

Billionaire Charlie Munger Likens Cryptocurrencies to Gambling

Charlie Munger

Warren Buffet’s right-hand man Charlie Munger has once more let his disdain for cryptocurrencies be known. Speaking in a Wall Street Journal op-ed this week, the 99-year-old called on the US authorities to ban cryptocurrencies, liking them to gambling contracts.

He believes that cryptocurrencies are a scam that targets regular investors. In the op-ed, Munger stated his belief that a cryptocurrency is not a security, a commodity, or a currency. He explained: “Instead, it’s a gambling contract with a nearly 100% edge for the house, entered into in a country where gambling contracts are traditionally regulated only by states that compete in laxity.”

called on Congress to copy China’s approach

The Berkshire Hathaway vice chairman called on Congress to copy China’s approach. The People’s Republic of China banned cryptocurrency mining and trading in 2021 because of concerns over possible risks. Despite the 99-year-old’s request, it does not look likely that the US government will take such drastic measures.

Munger has not held back his strong views on crypto in recent years. He has compared the crypto sector to an “open sewer” and stated that he believes anyone selling crypto is “either delusional or evil.”

Moreover, SIS’s Numbers products are widely popular across Africa, especially with punters who love the chance to win big from small bets!

Increased popularity of 24/7 live betting in Africa:

This deal reveals the growing need for SIS’s 24/7 live wagering services and helps the company solidify its presence in regulated markets in Africa.

However, it also represents the newest commercial agreement that SIS has signed in Africa to date.

Commenting on the partnership, Joe Andrews, Head of Sales for Africa at SIS, said: “Having the right partners in regions with a disparate makeup such as in Africa is essential to ensuring we continue growing our brand and products there.

“Kiron’s heritage across the continent provides us with a hugely valuable advantage in developing and launching this new channel, which will be a significant boost to our commercial ambitions in the region.

“Our content is renowned for driving incremental revenue as the high-frequency, 24/7 nature of our Numbers games is popular among African bettors.”

Gaining more popularity:

On the other hand, Kiron will enjoy the popularity that comes from combining its knowledge with the expertise of one of the globally recognized providers such as SIS, meaning that in the future we can expect the company to become more well-known around the world.

In this regard, Steven Spartinos, Co-CEO of Kiron Interactive added: “As we continue to expand the reach of Kiron and broaden the scope of the services we offer and the number of partners we work with, collaborating with a leading brand such as SIS is key.

“While we operate globally, Africa is where our roots lie, and as such, we offer unrivalled insight into the many diverse markets here. We’re delighted to work with SIS and look forward to working together to bring the combination of our respective revenue-boosting content to an even wider audience.”

Platinum Pass Winner John Orlowski’s First Time on a Plane Results in $53,400 Score!

Platinum Pass Winner John Orlowski’s First Time on a Plane Results in $53,400 Score!

The 2023 PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold’em Championship (PSPC) is in the books. While Aliaksandr Shylko wound up winning the prestigious tournament for $3,121,838, there were 175 players who walked away with a piece of the $24,843,000 prize pool, including some of the more than 400 Platinum Pass winners.

One of them was 50-year-old John Orlowski, who hopped on an airplane for the first time in his life to travel from frigid Michigan to the luxurious Baha Mar Resort in the Bahamas!

“I’ve never flown. I’ve never left Michigan, pretty much just Canada by driving,” he said. “First time being on a plane. I had to rush my passport. I was going to come by myself but my nephew decided he wanted to come, so he came with me.”

The part-time home game dealer won his Platinum Pass on PokerStars Michigan via a “Golden Ticket” giveaway that got him into a freeroll satellite, which he won.

“I played micro stakes, like $5 $10 tournaments, knockouts, and stuff,” Orlowski told PokerNews. “I played some like 20-cent slots on there. And then the ticket thing and all the little treasure things you build up from playing. I clicked on it and it said that I won a golden ticket. I was scheduled for the tournament, it was supposed to be on a Tuesday in November I think, but for some reason, they changed it to a Saturday. Not sure whether or not enough people registered. There were only 30 people in it when I won it.”

He added: “I got short-stacked in that tournament too. I didn’t think I was making a comeback.”

But he did, and the victory came at a good point in Orlowski’s life as in the preceding years he experience some health issues.

“I can’t do too many things because of my health. I’ve gotten along a lot better than now than I used to. Like last year, I might not have been able to do this, for sure two years ago I wouldn’t haven’t been able to physically.”

With his nephew in tow, Orlowski traveled to Nassau to compete against the world’s best where he wound up finishing in 76th place in a field of 1,014 runners, good for $53,400.

Check out our review of PokerStars MI here!

Battling Poker’s Best

Orlowski learned to play penny poker with his family when he was six years old, and it wasn’t until Chris Moneymaker won the 2003 World Series of Poker (after qualifying via PokerStars) that he was introduced to Texas hold’em. So, what did he do to prepare for the biggest poker tournament of his life?

“I watched a lot of stuff on YouTube about positions, stuff like that, raising in position, how they pick on your blinds,” he explained. “So, I used some of that during the regular part of the tournament, but then when it got towards the bubble, I couldn’t do much when they were doing it. I know they were picking on me, but I never had many hands.”

Orlowski survived Day 1, but it didn’t come easy.

“It was crazy, it was strenuous,” he admitted. “Much more strenuous later tournament. Poker pros really hammered to get the fish pretty much.”

Among the pros Orlowski had to battle were reigning WSOP Main Event champ Espen Jorstad, Jeremy Ausmus, Jared Jaffee, and Conor Beresford. While that may have been a bit intimidating, Orlowski held his own.

In fact, on Day 2 Orlowski won a flip to double through Beresford. It happened in Level 14 (2,000/5,000/5,000) Orlowski raised from early position to 11,000 and was met with a three-bet from Conor Beresford to 26,000 in the cutoff.

The rest of the table folded before Orlowski slid out a four-bet to 86,000. Beresford took some time before five-betting enough to put Orlowski at risk. The call was made and both hands were revealed.

John Orlowski: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Conor Beresford: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Beresford was behind but picked up additional outs on the {q-Spades}{j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} flop. The {5-Hearts} turn and {3-Clubs} river left Orlowski in front to stay alive and double his stack.

Making the Money

From there, it was on to Day 3 with the money bubble looming.

“I started Day 3 with like 300k, which was over the average stack. I probably could have just walked away and made the money,” said Orlowski. “This tournament was way different than playing in a small home game. People call your raises here. They think about their decisions more, which makes sense given it is more money.”

On Day 3, Orlowski not only cruised into the money but instead of min-cashing for $35,100, he began to ladder up. With 77 players remaining, Orlowski eliminated another Platinum Pass winner in Level 20 (10,000/20,000/20,000) when Germany’s Bastian Hess was all in and at risk in a heads-up pot against Orlowski.

Bastian Hess: {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
John Orlowski: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Hess couldn’t hit a jack despite calling for one on every street as the board ran out {8-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} to mark his elimination in 77th place for $53,400. Unfortunately for Orlowski, he followed him out the door a short time later in 76th place for the same payout.

“It was a great time,” Orlowski told PokerNews the next day. “Everybody with PokerStars, from the top down, they helped us with a lot of things. If we had any questions, they answered them. We got taken care of very well.”

As for the money, that’s going to come in handy.

“The reason I started playing online as I used to live in the Detroit area so I could go anywhere and play the casinos there, but now I’ve moved up north,” Orlowski explained. “There are no places near me with games. So, you gotta drive and they got one charity room up there but it’s just not worth driving to … I gotta fix up my new place. I just bought a truck. Where I live it’s snowing and cold, so you’ve got to have a truck.”

It started with a Golden Ticket, turned into a Platinum Pass, and ended in the poker adventure of a lifetime… plus $50,000 in cold hard Michigan cash!

Bet on These Players to Win Super Bowl LVII MVP over Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes

Super Bowl MVP trophy

The Super Bowl MVP race

Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes are early favorites to win Super Bowl LVII MVP at most sportsbooks.

based on both historical precedent and recent performances

While quarterbacks always get the plaudits, the current odds are overlooking several candidates that have very strong chances of winning the MVP. That’s based on both historical precedent and recent performances.

Let’s dive into which players are being overlooked in MVP markets, and why they have so much value.

Don’t ignore history

The most likely non-QB MVP, according to the sportsbooks, is Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (+1100 at BetMGM). He already has three touchdowns in two games this postseason and set a postseason record for most catches in a game (14) in the divisional round against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Two of the last four Super Bowl MVP winners have been pass catchers: Cooper Kupp and Julian Edelman. Kelce is also etching his name further into football lore, having recently moved into second place for all-time playoff receptions and touchdowns. It is not unreasonable to expect him to go for at least 100 yards and a touchdown in the big game, and the combination of that with his movement up the all-time charts could sway MVP results.

Philly running back Miles Sanders (+2800) is another player that is being criminally overlooked in Super Bowl MVP betting markets. He made the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career this season, meaning that his reputation around the league is growing, and ran for two touchdowns in an NFC Championship Game win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Hurts is averaging just 174 total yards in these playoffs

Sanders’ chances are also buoyed by his quarterback having a history of underperforming in postseason games. Hurts is averaging just 174 total yards in these playoffs and was even worse in college.

In five postseason games at the University of Alabama and the University of Oklahoma, Philly’s QB averaged a lowly 157.8 total yards and 50% completion rate to go with six touchdowns and an interception. Very pedestrian for a supposed odds-on favorite, though, to be fair, that was college and now he’s a Pro Bowl starter.

Great value

While Mahomes and Hurts are stealing the shine, two of the best defensive players in the game this year are readying to suit up.

Eagles pass rusher Haason Reddick (+3000) tied for the second-most sacks (16) and most forced fumbles (five) in the regular season and has 3.5 sacks and another forced fumble in two postseason games. He was also the player who knocked Niners QB Brock Purdy out of the game after getting to him with a sweet move past a blocker.

still dealing with the after effects of a high ankle sprain

Mahomes worked wonders in the AFC Championship Game, but is still dealing with the after-effects of a high ankle sprain and is not as mobile as he normally is. If Reddick picks up a couple of sacks and the Eagles win a low-scoring game, he could easily win MVP of the game.

On the other side, Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones (+5000) can also wreak havoc on a game. He was responsible for 15.5 sacks in the regular season and brought down Burrow twice in the AFC Championship en route to a 23-20 win.

The Eagles are a smashmouth football team that will run early and run often – this will give Jones a ton of opportunities for tackles for loss, and when Hurts tries to scramble from the pocket, sacks.

The Eagles’ wide receiver pairing of A.J. Brown (+1400) and DeVonta Smith (+2500) and Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco (+5000) are also near the top of the list of non-QB favorites.

There’s no guarantee that Hurts (+110) or Mahomes (+125) won’t win the award – after all, quarterbacks have won Super Bowl MVP far more than any other position – but there are a lot of players with tremendous value that are being heavily overlooked.

Ognyan Dimov is Back On Top With a Win in the $25,000 PCA High Roller ($990,655)

Ognyan Dimov is Back On Top With a Win in the $25,000 PCA High Roller ($990,655)

The final $25,000 High Roller at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure has come to an end and Ognyan Dimov is the champion after he defeated Ren Lin in heads-up play. Dimov outlasted a returning field of 17 on Day 3 to take home the top prize of $990,655.

The field of 187 players generated a prize pool of $4,444,055 and the top 27 players all took home at least $43,800. Lin won $619,200 for second, while Anthony Hu claimed $442,300 for third place. Kayhan Mokri and Brock Wilson rounded out the top five with $340,200 and $264,700, respectively.

$25,000 PCA High Roller Final Table Results

Rank Name Country Prize
1 Ognyan Dimov Bulgaria $990,655
2 Ren Lin United States $619,200
3 Anthony Hu United States $442,300
4 Kayhan Mokri Norway $340,200
5 Brock Wilson United States $261,700
6 Mustapha Kanit Italy $201,300
7 Dylan Smith United States $167,700
8 Elio Fox United States $139,700
9 Yuri Dzivielevski Brazil $116,400

The win is the largest in Dimov’s career and a long time coming since his 2015 victory in the EPT Main Event at Deauville in northwestern France.

“I’ve been waiting for many years for such a big score like this,” Dimov said in his post-win interview with PokerNews. “I’m very happy.”

Dimov enjoyed his time in The Bahamas—where he cashed four times and enjoyed a second place finish in the $10,000 Bounty Freezeout. The series has been an opportunity for poker regulars to bring their families and Dimov was no exception.

“I’m with my family here (wife Simoneta and son Boyan) and they can enjoy the place. I feel like I don’t have much time to do it, but still, it was worth it.”

Day 3 Action

The third and final day of the $25,000 PCA High Roller kicked off with 17 players and Ben Heath was the first to go when his nines ran into Dylan Smith’s queens. Heath’s elimination sent the tournament to the final two tables and Mario Navarro, Ryan Riess, Santiago Plante, Ethan “Rampage” Yau, Rodger Johnson, Joao Vieira, and Carlos Chadha were all eliminated before the final table. Yau is picking up where he left off after a breakout 2022 that finished up with a win in the $25,000 High Roller at the WPT World Championship in Las Vegas.

Ethan

The final nine kicked off final table action three hours into Day 3 and Yuri Dzivielevski was the first one out in ninth when his king-ten lost to Elio Fox’s ace-jack. Dimov eliminated Fox in eighth shortly thereafter and Smith fell in seventh when Dimov’s tens caught up to his pocket kings.

The final six played for another hour and Mustapha Kanit had gone on a run in the early stages of the final table, but he fell back to the pack and was knocked out in sixth when Lin beat his pocket eights with a flopped pair of aces. Moments later, Brock Wilson bowed out in fifth place when he got it in with pocket fours but ran into Lin’s pocket aces.

Kayhan Mokri had an up and down day, but always seemed to find himself back at the chip average. However, his night ended in fourth place when his ace-queen couldn’t beat Dimov’s pocket tens.

Dimov’s turning point came during three-handed play when he called with mid-pair after Hu fired a big bluff on the river with a missed flush draw. The hand gave Dimov the chip lead and he soon sent Hu to the rail in third with pocket eights.

Ren Lin

Lin entered heads-up play with a big disadvantage against Dimov’s towering chip stack and he wasn’t able to make up much ground. The big moment came when Lin got it all in on the flop with an open-ended straight draw, but Dimov dodged the outs to win with two pair.

That wraps up coverage of the $25,000 PCA High Roller from Baha Mar Resort in The Bahamas. Be sure to keep it with the PokerNews team for live updates from your favorite tournaments throughout the world in 2023.
