High Stakes Poker Season 10 returned to the PokerGO app Tuesday night with Episode 7, and it was arguably the most entertaining show thus far in 2023.

The episode featured a wild flop that connected with three players in a major way among a few other interesting hands. At the table were the same cast of characters returning from Episode 6 — Antonio Esfandiari, Jennifer Tilly, Bill Perkins, Bobby Baldwin, Roger Sippl, and Robert Sanchez — all competing in a high-stakes no-limit hold’em game with straddles on.

Esfandiari, Tilly, Sanchez Battle for $300k Pot

There isn’t much debate as to which pot was the “Hand of the Day” on the most recent High Stakes Poker episode. That classification goes to a pot played between Tilly, Esfandiari, and Sanchez in which all three players hit something big on the flop.

The straddled hand began with Tilly raising to $3,000 from the button with and then receiving a call from Sanchez, holding in the small blind. Esfandiari, with then three-bet to $11,000 and both players called.

When appeared on the flop, all three of them caught a large piece of that board. Esfandiari, with top set, bet $14,000 and both opponents made the call to see the on the turn.

The “Magician” bet out again, this time for $43,000 before Tilly, who had bottom set, moved all in for $115,000. That forced Sanchez and his pair with a flush and gut-shot straight draw to fold. But it didn’t get Esfandiari to let go of top set, nor did it make him even consider folding. He quickly made the call and they each agreed to run the river just once, which was the , giving both players a full house.

Esfandiari’s boat was bigger and he took down the $305,800 pot, one of the largest thus far in Season 10.

Perkins Doesn’t Believe Esfandiari

Every once in a while Perkins can be a bit stingy at the poker table. The author and hedge fund manager played a sizable pot against Esfandiari, who was catching cards early on in the session.

In this featured hand, Esfandiari raised to $1,000 with before his pal, Perkins, made the call with in the small blind. The flop was and Perkins decided to lead for $1,000, which convinced his opponent to raise to $6,000 with trips. That didn’t convince the under-the-gun bettor to fold king-high, however.

After both players took a glimpse at the on the turn, action checked over to the preflop raiser, who fired out a wager of $10,000. With top pair, Perkins called and then called off another $20,000 on the river.

Perkins also lost a $93,000 pot to Sanchez when his pocket nines couldn’t catch up to pocket queens. Two jacks appeared on the flop in a four-way pot, none of whom had trips, and it checked through. Sanchez was able to get some value on the turn and river from Perkins when it became apparent to him that no one had a jack.

Baldwin Moves All In

Baldwin and Tilly have battled in quite a few sizable pots during Season 10. In Episode 7, they went at it again with the former actress hoping to catch her straight draw.

In our final featured hand of the week, Tilly raised to $3,000 with before Perkins made an ambitious three-bet to $13,000 with in the small blind. Esfandiari called from the straddle with and Baldwin, who had originally limped, put chips in the pot with .

The flop ran out and Baldwin, after two players checked to him, ripped off a bet of $40,000 with his over pair. Tilly, chasing an open-ended straight draw, decided to make the call while everyone else folded. But when the board paired on the turn with the , she had to fold to a $116,000 all in wager and the 1978 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event champion took down the large pot.

The 2023 Wynn Millions kicked off back on February 20 and is slated to run through March 19. The $3,500 buy-in, $3 million GTD Wynn Millions Main Event is happening now, but while that’s taking place there have been several other side events playing out.

We already told you about early winners from the 2023 Wynn Millions, but we wanted to follow that up by highlighting some others to claim titles over the past week.

Michael Gathy Victorious in $3,000 NLH Progressive Bounty $200K GTD

On March 2, a day after he finished in third place for $54,193 in the $3,000 NLH 6-Max $200K GTD event, Belgium’s Michael Gathy bested a 148-entry field to win the $3,000 NLH Progressive Bounty, which more than doubled its $200K guarantee with a $407,000 prize pool.

The top 16 finishers made the money including Aaron Duczak (10th – $6,138), Martin Jacobson (11th – $6,138), Dylan Linde (12th – $5,374), Tongguang Sun (13th – $5,374), Nicholas Bond (14th – $4,760), Katie Lindsay (15th – $2,380), and Ryan Leng (16th – $2,380).

Among those at the final table were Bin Weng (9th – $7,081), Ethan “Rampage” Yau (7th – $9,842), and Alex Foxen (4th – $20,202). After Leonard August bowed out in third place for $29,526, the final two players worked an even deal for $62,368. As part of the deal, Ryan McAllister took second place while Gathy received first and the trophy.

Poker Legend “Miami” John Cernuto Claims Wynn Millions $1,100 Limit Omaha 8/B Title

On March 1, the 2023 Wynn Millions hosted its $1,100 Limit Omaha 8/B $50K GTD, which nearly doubled the guarantee as 98 runners generated a $95,060 prize pool. The top 11 players made the money, and the two to fall short of the final table were Duke Viveros and Clyde Gaskins, who each received $2,567 for finishing in 10th and 11th place respectively.

At the final table, two poker legends worked a deal in Ari Engel and “Miami” John Cernuto. The former wound up taking second place for $23,903, while the latter won the trophy and took $25,851 in prize money. It was just the latest victory on Cernuto’s impressive poker résumé, which dates back to 1987 according to the Hendon Mob.

Vikenty Shegal & Alex Foxen Work in Deal in $3,000 NLH 6-Max $200K GTD

On March 1, the 2023 Wynn Millions hosted its $3,000 NLH 6-Max $200K GTD, which more than doubled the guarantee as 184 players created a $506,000 prize pool. Among those to make the money by finishing in the top 20 were Maria Konnikova (10th – $11,193), Ryan Leng (11th – $11,193), Matthew Wantman (15th – $8,693), Will “The Thrill” Failla (16th – $7,767), and Cherish Andrews (19th – $7,028).

Belgium’s Michael Gathy made a deep run finishing in third place for $54,193, and the next day he’d go on to win the $3,000 NLH Progressive Bounty for $62,368. At that point, the final two players worked a deal that saw Alex Foxen finish in second place for $112,006 while Vikenty Shegal got $112,007 and the trophy.

Minnesota Players Battle Heads-Up in $1,100 H.O.R.S.E. $50K GTD

From February 28 through March 1, the $1,100 H.O.R.S.E. $50K GTD tournament played out. A field of 115 entrants generated a prize pool of $111,500, which was reserved for the top 13 finishers. Among those to cash but fall short of the final table was Rose Bottler (10th – $2,800), Paul Sokoloff (11th – $2,800), Hal Rotholz (12th – $2,443), and Ryan Hughes (13th – $2,443).

The final table had some recognizable names in Ari Engel (7th – $4,440), Ron Ware (5th – $6,581), and Brett Richey (3rd – $13,051). In the end, it was two players from Minnesota battling heads-up with Jon Breneman ultimately besting James Johnson to win the tournament for $25,122.

2023 Wynn Millions Winners Thus Far

The World Poker Tour’s popular WPT Prime returned to the Gold Coast in Australia towards the end of February, for a fortnights worth of poker action inside the The Star Gold Coast Casino.

The festival has finally wrapped up proceedings and saw Sheng Ye walk away as the WPT Prime Gold Coast $2,000 Main Event champion. Ye, who resides in Sydney, Australia, secured a career-high payday of $374,953 (USD $253,843), which includes a $16,500 package to play in the season-ending WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas.

The Main Event had three starting flights and saw 1,224 entries, creating the $2,203,200 (USD $1,493,899) prize pool.

By the time the final day began, the field of 1,224 had been whittled down to the final 16 players. Jack Hardcastle was one of the early eliminations on Day 3 and was followed out of the door by others. The departure of Christopher Zenonos set up the final table, where the top nine players had locked up $35,847.

Noman Mizra was the first player to leave the official final table after his king-seven could not leapfrog the ace-seven held by Andreas Vasiliou in an all-in preflop encounter. Vasiliou then headed to the payout desk next. He had ace-nine and flopped top pair on a nine-high board. He ended up getting his stack in against Ye, who had pocket kings. There would be no help on the runout, and he finished in eighth place.

Ye then secured his second final table bust out after his jack-ten rivered a pair to win the race against the ace-nine of Slav Rypinski. Nearly an hour later, Mostofa Haidary put the pressure on the short-stacked Gary Lin in a blind versus blind battle. Haidary moved all in with nine-three, and Lin called off his stack with ace-deuce. The former would go on to make two pair and send Lin to the rail.

The last woman standing was Anita Savage, and her deep run came to end shortly after Lin was eliminated. Savage put in her last big blind and was called by Ye and Josh Forster. Ye folded out Forster on the board for the cards to be tabled. Ye had a pair of queens with his queen-eight but was behind the pair of kings that belonged to Savage. However, another queen hit the river to give Ye the winner with a full house.

Ye then claimed Foster’s stack after ripping his monster stack from the small blind with ten-nine. While playing on his birthday, Foster called for his tournament life with king-deuce. However, any birthday wishes of a WPT Prime title evaporated after Ye flopped a queen-high straight.

Ben Richardson then made it heads-up play after his ace-seven held against Haidary’s king-queen after another all-in preflop situation.

Ye had a slender chip lead over Richardson but soon began to pull away. The eventual winner at one stage had a 14-1 chip lead, but Richardson found several double-ups to stay in contention.

On the final hand of the night, Ye ended things when his queen-deuce turned top pair against Richardson’s ace-five. The latter was awarded $238,978 as his runners-up prize to take his all-time live tournament earnings to USD $922,596.

WPT Prime Cambodia Right Around the Corner

While WPT Prime Gold Coast may have finished, there’s plenty of action to come still as the WPT heads to Asia in just a few days for WPT Prime Cambodia.

The series is hosted at the beautiful Nagaworld Integrated Resort, Phnom Penh and runs from March 9-21.

With buy-ins varying from $110 to $10,000, events are suited for all poker players. The schedule is also packed with exciting events, which include but are not limited to Pot-Limit Omaha, Short Deck, and Mystery Bounty tournaments.

And, of course, there will be the $1,100 buy-in WPT Prime Cambodia Main Event, which kicks off on March 16 and comes with a $500,000 Guarantee.

Early Stage Play for Online Satellites

The early stages of an online satellite are the bits between the events start and when the average stack reaches the 25-30 big blind mark. At this point, you want to treat the satellite like a regular multi-table tournament.

The goal here is to gain as many chips as possible with your strong hands while also keeping an eye on protecting your stack. This is the stage where you want to identify the weak and strong players in the field so you can adapt your game accordingly for further down the line. Knowing which players you want to avoid in the middle and late stages of the satellite will help you avoid getting into some tricky spots where your tournament life could be on the line.

Middle Stage Play for Online Satellites

As mentioned, the middle stages of an online satellite are when the average stack is at the 25-big blind mark. Perhaps half the field or so remains, but there is still quite some time before the bubble nears.

This is where you may want to change your usual MTT strategy up. Tournament survival becomes the primary goal, and adding chips to stay ahead of the short stacks is extremely important.

If you’ve been tackling the satellite with a tight image, you can use this against players you’ve tagged as folders and passive players. Much of the field will try to fold into places that payout a seat, so you do not want to miss out on opportunities to steal the blinds.

And again, you want to go for max value with your made hands. There ate very few reasons to try and get trappy as it may result in you missing out on picking up a handful of crucial chips, which could be all the difference in you getting or falling short of the prize.

End/Bubble Stage Play for Online Satellites

Survival becomes even more crucial if you are near the bubble in the online satellite you’re playing. If you’re in the middle of a pack with just one or two eliminations until the bubble bursts, you’re a lock to win the ticket/seat. So, you should never put yourself in a position where you’re entire stack is on the line.

Yes, the table captain may likely be raising with any two cards, but the goal in satellites is to win the ticket, not the tournament. Whether you win your seat with a stack of 100 big blinds or have a virtual chip and a chair, you both receive the same prize.

After an intense battle, it was Jefffrr8 that emerged victoriously, doing so with a total haul worth $14,948, which resigned footstuff to a still respectable $8,066 consolation prize. The day saw many names fall throughout, including Papa Karn (127th-$1,175), Jacob Long (117th-$1,320), Josh Prager (76th-$1,925), Rob “Boston Rob” Mariano (47th-$2,475), and Cody Stanford (32nd-$3,205). Each one of them falling short of the goal to make the final table.

After a long battle at the final table, Pe Kyaw (1st-$90,330) took home the ring after a three-handed ICM deal with Daniel Lowery (2nd-$88,870) and Taylor Pollard (3rd-$84,835) that saw each of them take home sizable prizes for their accomplishments.

The California resident found himself on the good end of the deck throughout much of the day, finding himself getting key double-ups through Noel Rodriguez (9th-$12,420) and David Bellacose (4th-$41,195) to end the day with the chip lead. Holding only $762 in lifetime Hendon Mob cashes and now has added a significant sum to his lifetime earnings. When asked about his play throughout the day, he said “play tight, play good.”

Day 2 Highlights

Noel Rodriguez came into the final day as the overall tournament chip leader, but a rough beat against Pe Kyaw with two tables left when his ace-king couldn’t hold up against Kyaw’s king-jack saw him come to the final table as the shortest stack. He eventually got in his final five big blinds with jack-ten suited and David Bellacose called him with king-queen offsuit. Both players flopped a pair, but it was Bellacose’s pair of queens that were good and Rodriguez ended his run in ninth place for $12,420.

Following him out the door in eighth place was Jason Castro. Chip Leader Taylor Pollard moved all in from the button into the two shortest stacks at the table, and Castro called with ace-jack for twelve big blinds. It was behind the ace-queen of Pollard and no jack on the runout meant that Castro collected $16,640 for his efforts.

James Cavanaugh found a double up roughly an hour into the final table when his ace-jack held against Mitchell Collins’ king-queen, but shortly after his pocket jacks ran into Pollard’s aces. The board brough no help to the pocket jacks and Cavanaugh wished his table mates luck as he and his sizable rail went off to collect the $20,970 for his efforts.

Mitchell Collins lost the key hand to Cavanaugh which put him as the table short stack for a bit. Eventually he would move in his final chips with ace-nine offsuit from early position which Pollard called with king-jack offsuit. The flop came out king high and that was all she wrote for Collins who ended his run in sixth place for $25,365.

Don Vo collected $31,255 for his deep run. He bounced around as the short stack for the most part of the final table, but eventually he moved in his final chips with ace-nine offsuit, only for Taylor Pollard to call him with ace-jack offsuit. The board ran out with no help to Vo and he ended his run in 5th place.

David Bellacose came into the final table as one of the big stacks, but he lost two key hands to Pe Kyaw that set him back significantly. He first lost pocket nines to Kyaw’s ace-three for them to flip places on the chip counts. The next time he lost pocket jacks to Kyaw’s pocket threes after they got all their chips in preflop. A three rolled off on the flop and no help was brought to Bellacose who ended his run in fourth place for $41,195.

After some hands were played and the chip counts became significantly more similar, the three remaining players began talks of a deal. All three players agreed to an ICM chop that saw Pollard take home $84,835 for a third-place stack, Lowery take home $88,870, and Kyaw take home $90,330 as well as the ring and the seat to the Dream Seat Invitational at Thunder Valley.

After over twelve hours of play at the $600 Main Event at the RunGood Poker Series in Tunica, Mississippi, the field of 76 was whittled down to two winners after Ricky Loyd and Kevin Broadway agreed to a chop deal, with Loyd receiving $50,804 for his efforts while Broadway received $46,804 along with the RunGood Poker Series ring and the trip to RGPS Thunder Valley.

“Im super excited, it was a good one to be the first,” Broadway responded when asked if it was his first RunGood ring. He was also very excited to get a chance to play in the Million Dollar Freeroll later this year and that the prize money will also “help have a good summer in Vegas as well…Im going to take a serious look at playing the [WSOP] Main Event this year… I don’t think there will be a better opportunity to play it.”

This is the Arkansas native beat out a field of 601 entries for his largest tournament cash in his 20-year career as a recreational player, and he explained that the feeling really hadn’t quite sunk in yet.

When asked if he played professionally, he replied, “Oh no no, definitely not, I do manufacturing for a living, I actually work for Frito-Lay, so I make potato chips for a living. Just every time the WSOP circuit or the RunGood Series comes around, I make it a point to play those events.”

Action of the day

People sat down and began playing fast and furiously, with many stacks busting before the first hour was even up. Defending champion JW Carter did not find make it to Day 2 which meant that a new champion would be crowned tonight.

Others whose runs felt shorter than they would have wished included Michael Cardell who was the first to bust in 76th place for a min-cash of $844. Tournament regulars Chris Johnson and William Anderson also did not make it far into the day despite success early on. Day 1a chip leader Jon Swift was also lost in the weeds on Day 2 and busted out just after the three-table redraw. The overall Day 1 chip leader Brodie Harris also couldnt get much going and he was eliminated 6 levels in when his ace-queen suited was cracked by John George and his ace-nine in a massive pot.

On the flip side of things, Michael Chilton carried over his momentum from Day 1b and went on a tear throughout the early levels, establishing himself as the dominant chip leader. RunGood Ambassador Chris Conrad also caught fire when his pocket nines flopped top set in against pocket jacks and pocket queens- which were held by Walker Miskelly. Conrad jumped up to over two million in chips and also happened to be seated at the same table as his parter-in-crime, Katerina Lukina, who also made a deep run. Unfortunately for Conrad, his luck ran out when his flopped top pair against Loyd’s top set for a substantial amount of chips, and things just went downhill from there and he ended up busting in 15th Place.

Another player that was very active throughout the day was Bryan Loch, who was almost eliminated in the very first level but managed to stay alive and used that as a catalyst to make a deep run. Unfortunately, his tournament came to an end when his pocket sixes fell to Kelly Black and his king-queen and he was out in 12th for ($4,657).

Final Table Action

After Chilton busted in 10th place, Michael Monaghan came into the final table as a very short stack and was eliminated in one of the first hands to Loyd who held pocket tens against Monaghans nine-three offsuit.

Following him out the door was another short stack in the form of Patrick Rogers who lost with jack-three against Cliff Hart’s ace- four and exited in 8th for $7,438.

After that, a lot of the chips flowed around the table until Jason Arnold was caught in a bad spot when his pocket tens were absolutely crushed by Loyd’s ace-king that made him a full house.

Loyd was also responsible for the bustout of James “Coach” Milligan, who had at one point convinced the table to do a chop but was thwarted when Black backed out at the last minute, which resulted in a $10,000 difference for Milligan.

Next to go was Khanh Chau who got it in with pocket queens but was cooler by Hart’s superior pocket kings and he was sent home in fifth for $16,220.

The action then died down quite considerably, and some time passed before the next player exited, which was coincidentally Hart after he lost a massive pot with kings versus Black’s pocket sevens that hit a straight.

Black himself was then the victim of a very swingy stretch that ended with him losing several big pots in a row and finally was wiped out by Loyd for a third-place finish of $28,846.

After Black was eliminated, the two remaining players, Loyd and Broadway agreed to chop the remainder, with Loyd receiving $50,804 for his efforts while Broadway received $46,804 along with the RGPS ring and the Trip to RGPS Thunder Valley.
