Boy playing on his phone

Technologies have changed almost all essential aspects of our lives. One of them revolves around people’s gambling behaviours. In this article, we focus on providing more details about what is social gambling and whether it has brought more pros or cons for players. Use the quick navigation menu below to navigate throughout the blog post easily.

What are Social Casinos?

Before you engage in social gambling, you need first to understand what are social casinos. The concept is not new, and in fact, has been circulating for almost a decade. The importance of this phenomenon is not one to be overlooked, which is why we have decided to delve into this topic and share essential details with you.

The definition of social gambling is very easy to comprehend. Social casinos are free-play platforms where you can play gambling-like games without any financial losses or winnings. The idea behind this concept is that players gamble just for fun without the possibility of obtaining a material reward. Although the idea of gambling without a profit might seem somehow pointless, people actually are going berserk about it.

Interesting fact:

In 2022, the social casino games market size was valued at $64 billion. The market is expected to expand by nearly $3 billion by 2027.

It is perhaps the social side of it that people love so much. Or maybe there is virtually no risk of losing money, while you can still get the thrill of playing. Either way, this alternative way of gambling is yet to progress further. Now that you are familiar with a social casino’s definition let’s look at the differences between social casinos and online casinos.

Differences Between Social Casinos and Online Casinos

Online gambling has been around since the 90s and is preferred by many players. You have probably noticed that on our site, we are mostly reviewing the best online casinos in the USA. In order to better understand what is social gambling, we have decided to compare both casino types and see what the main differences between them are.

🎰 Online Casinos 📱 Social Casinos
Gamble with real money Free play
Offers live dealer games Play only with players
Not legal everywhere Legal across a large number of countries
Games are accessible to all players Some games are locked and require credits

To say which one is better would be a hard task. As you can see, social casinos and their real-money counterparts have their benefits and downsides. Online casinos are a great choice for risk-takers and money-driven players, whereas social casinos are perfect for people who want fun but don’t want to risk their money for it. Each of them simply offers a different experience.

What are the Pros and Cons of Social Gambling?

To better evaluate what is a social casino, we have gathered the essential elements of social gambling. In the table below, you can see a breakdown of both the advantages and disadvantages of social casinos. Check them out in order to make an informed decision.

✔️ Pros ❌ Cons
No risk of losing money Additional features might require payment
Perfect for socialising Too many ads
Fair rules for everybody Games’ repetitive nature
Wide selection of games Might lead to addiction
Increases learning of playing
Regular perks and bonuses

Like anything else out there, social gambling has its positive and negative aspects. However, as seen from the table above, the pros outweigh the cons. Having this in mind, we can say that social gambling offers a safe and exciting experience to players. What is more, they let you practice your skills in different games in a much safer environment while also socialising with other people.

Are Social Casinos Legal in the US?

What are social casinos without regulations? This is probably one of the most asked questions when it comes to the topic of social gambling. Since real money is not used for betting, there is almost no difference between social gaming sites and apps and video gaming ones. It is important to mention that some additional features might require purchase from players.

Playing games for fun is not illegal, which makes social casinos legal in almost every country around the world. However, some states across the US might have certain regulations on social gambling. Therefore, we recommend that you always check the legal regulations of the state you are accessing them.

Who Can Play at Social Casinos?

Now that you know what is a social casino and where it stands in comparison to an online one, we can continue our blog covering the aspects related to social casino gamers. To engage in social casino games, you are likely not to be subject to any age restrictions. However, reputable social casinos might require players to be of the legal gambling age in the US.

Social casinos are quite popular across the world, with over 170 million people playing on a global scale. Most of them play for entertainment or as a hobby. There are, of course, those who use these types of casinos to practice their skills, especially for games like poker or blackjack. Children and minors can also play unless there are certain restrictions imposed.

Where Can Social Casino Games Be Played?

Another frequently asked question aside from what is a social casino is where it can be found. There are plenty of ways to access social casino games. You can play them anywhere, anytime, as long as you have a laptop, tablet or phone with Internet access. Below we have outlined five of the best casino sites out there:

  1. 🎰 Slotomania – Large Players Community
  2. 🐕 Zynga – Top Social Games
  3. 🤑 DoubleDown Casino – Popular Social Games
  4. 🐟 Big Fish Casino – Great Sign-Up Bonus
  5. 🃏 House of Fun – Excellent Social Gaming App

Social casino games can be literally found all around the Internet. Social media platforms like Facebook are one option to access them. There are, however, a lot of casino sites and apps specifically dedicated to social gambling. Once you get the motivation to play, you just simply need to choose your preferred platform.

Types of Social Casino Games You Can Play

Social casino game

What is a social casino without games? The world of gambling revolves around games, and so does the reality of social casinos. Social casino games are mostly identical to some of the best US-themed slots. As we mentioned several times already, social casino games do not require monetary payment.

Although social casinos are mainly associated with slots, they also offer table games, bingo, keno, and more. The latter includes roulette, blackjack, baccarat, poker, and others. Below we have featured a list of the best social casino games for 2023:

  • 🚂 Crazy Train – Great Graphics
  • ⚔️ Gladiator – Best Social Experience
  • 🐃 Buffalo Dreams – Excellent 5-Reel Slot
  • 🍀 Wheel of Luck – Best Multiplier Value
  • ⚡ Zeus Fortune- Attractive Progressive Jackpot

Conclusion

Overall, social casinos offer a great deal of entertainment with the advantage that players won’t lose real money. However, you must be aware that some extra benefits do require the investment of money. Whether you are looking for a fun way to pass the time, socialise with your friends or practice your gaming skills, social casinos might be just the right fit for you.

Social casinos are ideal if you are on the go and want to play games from the comfort of your home. Yet, nothing can replace the authentic gambling experience that you would get from traditional brick-and-mortar casinos. If you are planning your next trip across the country, consider visiting some of the top gambling cities in the US.

Petar Kalev Leads 52 Surviving Players Into Day 4 of the PokerStars Players Championship

Day 3 of the PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold’em Championship has come to an end and Petar Kalev leads 52 players into Thursday’s Day 4. The surviving runners will return on Thursday at 12 p.m. local time for the penultimate day of this prestigious event.

The Bulgarian bagged the top stack of 3,360,000 and he is followed by Blake Bohn in second on the leaderboard with 2,800,000. Dylan Destefano ended the night in third with 2,665,000, while Platinum Pass winners Dominik Nitsche and Tom Parsons rounded out the top five with 2,360,000 and 2,265,000, respectfully.

Kalev has the chip lead after a late clash with a charging Fedor Holz, who looked as though he may emerge as the chip leader in the late levels. However, an ill-timed shove proved beneficial when he made an unlikely flush to cut Holz’s stack in half. After a late charge to end the night, Kalev stood tall with the biggest bag.

Day 3 Action

The third of five days saw 255 players return for a shot at making it through a money bubble that paid the top 175 players a min-cash of $35,100. It took a little over three hours to reach the bubble, and then over two hours in hand-for-hand play, but it was Mauricio Ferreira Pais that busted out to earn the rest of the room their payday.

Among the big stories was Glen Craigen, a Canadian road construction worker that won his Platinum Pass in a freeroll. Craigen ran all the way to 111th to take home $46,500 and the story of a lifetime.

Another player on the ride of his life was Tom Parsons, who waited patiently for his opportunity after winning a Platinum Pass at Lex Live 2 in March of 2019. Parsons was down to his last few big blinds on the bubble, but he spun it up and and went on a late run to finish with 2,265,000. According to Hendon Mob, Parsons had just $1,406 in lifetime earnings before this event.

Parsons is joined by Jerome Moreau on a list of dreamers that earned their way to The Bahamas by securing a Platinum Pass. Moreau is a dealer on the European Poker Tour, and he’s put his opportunity to good use. His big moment of the day was when he correctly called a bluff from Nicolas Betbese to take a big pot with a pair of eights. He went on to add more chips at the end of the night with the elimination of Kenny Hallaert. Moreau will return with 1,205,000 and a chance to live his dream from a different seat at the table.

Bohn, a Minnesota-native, is a regular at the WSOP and on mid-major tours throughout the United States. According to Hendon Mob, he has just over $3.5 million in lifetime earnings, including a recent win at Winter Poker Classic on the Mid-States Poker Tour. Nick Schulman Shines as Kaplan’s Replacement on New Episode of High Stakes Poker

Nick Schulman Shines as Kaplan's Replacement on New Episode of High Stakes Poker

On Episode 2 of High Stakes Poker Season 10 Tuesday night, Nick Schulman, paired with AJ Benza, made his debut appearance in the broadcast booth, replacing Gabe Kaplan.

It’s never easy to replace a legend, but if anyone is up to the task it is Schulman, who has been one of PokerGO’s most popular commentators for years. Although he’s normally teamed up with Ali Nejad, another legendary broadcaster and long-time host of Poker After Dark, Schulman eased into the role quickly and the chemistry with Benza was on point.

Kaplan, the former actor and poker pro, announced his retirement last week. Schulman wrote on Twitter that he received Kaplan’s blessing to step into his seat.

Replacing a Poker Legend

High Stakes Poker, which first launched on Game Show Network in 2006, is one of the most iconic poker shows in history. Gabe and AJ, much like Norman Chad and Lon McEachern are with the World Series of Poker, go together like peanut butter and jelly. But Schulman instantly showed that Nick and AJ are a pretty dang good team as well.

Benza eased Schulman into the booth, introducing his new co-host right off the bat.

“I’m doing great, AJ,” Schulman said. “When I got the call from the Big Guy it was a little bit surreal, and can’t believe I’m sitting next to you on High Stakes, but I’m happy to be here.”

“Oh, listen, we’re all Brooklyn guys. Me, you, and Gabe – never bet against Brooklyn guys, we’re gonna be fine,” Benza responded.

Benza, Schulman, and Kaplan were all born in New York City.

The Action at the Table

When the action began, Ema Zajmovic took down a small pot of $3,400 with a pair of fives in the $200/$400 no-limit hold’em cash game.

There were six other players at the table — Jennifer Tilly, Eric Persson, Matt Hanks, Jean-Robert Bellande, Bobby Baldwin, and Chino Rheem. Hanks had the largest stack with just over $350,000 and three players began the episode with a tad below $100,000.

Last week’s Season 10 premiere featured one of the more entertaining chop pots in High Stakes Poker history between Zajmovic and Hanks. This week’s highlights include a mistake by Persson in how he attempted to get a call from Bellande.

On a board of {j-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{j-Spades}{6-Spades} and $40,000 in the pot, Persson made an over-bet of $100,000 with {q-Spades}{j-Diamonds} for a full house. Bellande went into the tank with {q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. Persson made every effort he could to talk his opponent into a call, and he went so far as to turn over the queen. Unfortunately, for the loudmouth casino owner and high-stakes regular, it ended up convincing “JRB” to fold his cards and he only won a small profit with a monster hand.

Bellande would get some breaks later on, however, including a six-figure pot he shipped with a flopped set against Tilly, who missed her flush draw. But then he folded pocket 10’s on a {9-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} board when Hanks bet $70,000 into a pot of $83,000 with nothing but ace-high.

High Stakes Poker Season 10 returns next week on PokerGO at 5 p.m. PT with Episode 3.

MGA Games Entered Peruvian Market Through Olimpo.bet

MGA Games Entered Peruvian Market Through Olimpo.bet

The company’s entrance into the Peruvian market marks not only a continued trend of expansion in Latin America but also on a global scale. This is the third new market the developer entered this year.

Entry into the Peruvian Market

iGaming developer specialist MGA Games will be supplying more than 200 products with the new contract, enabling NG Gaming to greatly expand its own offerings to Peruvian players. The partnership will cover a wide variety of offerings from video bingo games, through themed slot games to popular table games, such as roulette.

Javier Lanfranchi – director of sales at MGA Games – was cited in multiple outlets, saying that the greatest value the company provides to fans of its games is the sheer variety of the company’s portfolio. This should enable Casino Olimpo.bet to expand its reach, with the partnership itself enabling MGA Games to expand theirs into the region as well.

Peru’s market is currently blossoming, thanks to the recent legalization of online gaming and sports betting last August, so it’s definitely a good opportunity for MGA Games to capitalize on the market’s sustained growth. This means the partnership marks another big step for both sides, and Lanfranchi was cited saying the company was proud of being a part of Peru’s gaming journey.

It’s not only operators and suppliers driving the market, however. With so many new game opportunities opening up to Peruvian players, AstroPay saw the opportunity to launch prepaid Visa cards in the country. The company’s focus on iGaming and betting makes for a perfect synergy and enabled it to offer gaming-oriented solutions.

MGM’s Sustained Expansion

The other LatAm country that the provider set foot in recently was Colombia. MGA Games partnered with Betfair to bring its famous offerings to the operator’s platform in the country. Castle Slots, Golden Throne, Gold Mermaid by Renata Gonzalez, Lucky Dragon, Wild Africa and other titles were already available for players to enjoy on the go.

MGA Games hasn’t neglected other parts of the world with its Latin America expansions, however. On the contrary, the suppliers have been on a roll recently, and it has entered three new European markets since last September when it entered Italy with the Microgame deal. This was followed in November by a new partnership with Videoslots Casino, expanding content into Spain as well.

Towards the tail end of January, we saw neighboring Portugal adding to the list of European countries that MGA Games has set foot on as well. The supplier struck a contract with Caravel and will be catering to the needs of one of its online gambling brands – Moosh. It was also the second new market MGA Games had entered this year, with the Peru expansion being the third. The first one, however, was on an entirely different continent – Africa. MGA Games partnered with Goat Interactive and its Premier Bet gaming brand. The market has often been considered underserved and ripe for major brands to conquer, which is exactly what companies such as 888 Holdings or Betway have already started doing. This, in turn, fuels the need for content, where suppliers come in.

LaLiga Says Premier League is “Cheating” With Massive Player Transfer Fees

LaLiga flag

LaLiga condemns heavy transfer spending

LaLiga, the top soccer league in Spain, has chastised the exorbitant spending of English Premier League clubs in the January transfer window.

combined to spend more than $1bn

An analysis revealed that the 20 top-flight English teams combined to spend more than $1bn during the 31 days that transfers could be made. Chelsea Football Club led the way with over $350m, which was nearly three times as high as the previous January record by a single club.

January is usually less active than the summer window since teams are more incentivized to keep players that are part of their active squads. All the more cause for concern for non-English sides.

Getting around the rules

LaLiga corporate general director, Javier Gomez, is ready to ask UEFA, the governing body of European soccer, to apply more regulation to player transfers.

LaLiga president Javier Tebas shared a video of Gomez commenting on the Premier League’s massive spending spree and the future of LaLiga on his Twitter account.

“We are aware there is a lot of talk about how LaLiga’s economic control means Spanish clubs sign less than Premier League clubs,” said Gomez. “The reality is that at LaLiga we want clubs to spend what they can afford and generate themselves, that is to say, their own revenues.”

UEFA already has a system in place, called Financial Fair Play (FFP), to uphold the standards Gomez mentioned. FFP mandates clubs meet a breakeven requirement, meaning they cannot spend more than their annual income and must balance their books over the coming three years.

use long-term amortization to lessen the blow of grandiose player transfers

Chelsea, however, is one of several teams that has circumvented the intent of FFP. Their tactic was to use long-term amortization to lessen the blow of grandiose player transfers on a year-to-year basis, which is why many of their new transfers signed six-eight-and-a-half-year contracts.

By using this and other methods, they were able to spend much more than ever intended. Their final purchase of World Cup winner and golden boy Enzo Fernandez rang up $132m, but only cost less than $50m up front.

Gomez believes that Chelsea and other Premier League teams are not abiding by the financial rules.

“The data is as follows: With data compared up to June 30, 2021, and across the five previous seasons, the PL and Championship—top two tiers of English football—lost €3bn ($3.3bn),” said Gomez. “In that same time, the Spanish league lost; we all suffered in the pandemic; €250m ($273m).”

Imminent change

Gomez continued his speech by saying that owners of Premier League teams are injecting their teams with external funding and “doping” the club, making it unsustainable for long-term growth. He also accused EPL teams of cheating, since other clubs and leagues could not do the same.

“That is our fight, demanding that UEFA implements a new economic regulation that prevents the shareholder of a club from putting in more than a certain amount and that it enforces this rule and sanctions non-compliant clubs,” said Gomez. “It doesn’t matter which league or country it is, they should sanction clubs that don’t comply with this regulation.”

UEFA has already promised to institute an amendment to FFP in the summer, capping the amortization limit at five years. That means that teams like Chelsea will not be able to get year-to-year discounts on large transfer fees.

only encouraged the brash spending that occurred in January

However, that implementation only encouraged the brash spending that occurred in January. Once the loophole was exposed and identified as a problem, it only made sense to abuse it while it was available.

All in all, Premier League teams outspent all of the other “big five” leagues (LaLiga, French Ligue 1, German Bundesliga, and Italian Serie A) by nearly 400%. Chelsea spent more than the other four leagues on its own.

Tim Bridge, the lead partner in Deloitte’s Sports Business Group, said that there needs to be a happy medium when it comes to spending.
