Phil Hellmuth Loses Big on HCL, Spoils Outcome Early on Twitter

Phil Hellmuth Loses Big on HCL, Spoils Outcome Early on Twitter

Phil Hellmuth took his largest live-stream defeat in a decade on Monday’s Hustler Casino Live high-stakes game, and he was apparently so excited to tell the Twitter world about his loss that he spilled the beans two hours before the stream ended.

As is customary when it comes to live-streamed shows, which all operate on a slight delay for integrity reasons (and gaming regulations), most players will wait until the stream concludes before posting results on social media. But not the “Poker Brat,” who prematurely informed his followers that he dumped $144,500.

The 16-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner, however, held true to his word that he would buy in for $300,000, a proclamation he made last year after facing criticism for entering a Live at the Bike high-stakes game with just $20,000.

Hellmuth Takes an ‘L’

At the end of the five-hour stream, he was down $158,600, according to the YouTube graphic, slightly more than showed in his tweet. A large chunk of those losses came in a hand against his pal Stanley Tang, the DoorDash founder.

With three straddles on, Hellmuth made a huge raise from the button to $15,000 with {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and Tang just called with {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} in the first straddle before Alan Keating, holding {10-Hearts}{7-Clubs} in the second straddle, and Chamath Palihapitiya, with {k-Hearts}{6-Hearts} in the other straddle, called.

The flop came out {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{4-Spades}, not exactly music to the ears of Hellmuth, but that didn’t stop him from continuing his aggression with a $25,000 bet. Tang then moved all in for $45,700 total, forcing Keating and Palihapitiya off the pot.

With action back on the “Poker Brat,” he was in an uncomfortable position, knowing he could likely only beat a draw, but perhaps priced in given it was only $20,700 more for him to call (6.5-1 on his money). He eventually did call and both players agreed to run it twice, neither of which improved Hellmuth’s hand. Tang took down the $155,000 pot, while the Poker Hall of Famer chewed himself out for betting the flop.

Hellmuth also lost a $72,000 pot to Stanley Choi when his pocket kings were cracked on the turn by pocket queens. Earlier in the session, he made a surprising fold with ace-king preflop when facing a $9,000 three-bet from HCL regular “J.R.,” who had pocket 10’s.

But the weirdest, and one of the most costly, hands of the day for the former world champion came against “J.R.,” who bet $20,000 on the river with {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds} on a board of {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and somehow received a call from Hellmuth, who had {k-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for nothing but king-high. Commentator Bart Hanson questioned if it was a misread and not some wild hero call.

We’ll let you be the judge.

Keating Doesn’t Like to Fold

Alan Keating hustler casino live

For the entire session, Hellmuth raised a measly 8% of the hands he was dealt, far and away the lowest at the table. His VPIP (voluntarily putting chips in play) was just 31%. On the opposite end of the spectrum was Keating, whose VPIP was at 86%, a Hustler Casino Live record.

Keating has long been one of the most popular players on the show due to his apparent hatred for folding hands. He plays any two cards and is tough to bluff. But although he’s about as loose as they come, he also has the stones to pull off some six-figure bluffs.

Before the stream began, he said in a pregame interview that his goal was to stack Hellmuth. Not only did that not happen, but he finished the live-streamed portion of the game down $252,000, making him the biggest loser in the game by a wide margin.

Palihapitiya, who was playing for charity (as was Tang), was far and away the biggest winner. The billionaire venture capitalist and regular in Hellmuth’s home games bought in for $50,000 and finished the game with $406,500 in his stack, spinning up a $365,500 profit. No one else won more than $30,000 while on stream.

Hellmuth is scheduled to appear on Live at the Bike on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Robbi Jade Lew will compete in those games, making her live-stream return for the first time since the Sept. 29 alleged cheating incident on HCL.

Pace-O-Matic Skill Games Remain Legal in Pennsylvania

White Hat Studios Launches in Pennsylvania Continuing US Push

The Duluth, Georgia-based gaming developer successfully defended its case after police confiscated several machines and tens of thousands in cash from two businesses. The court agreed that POM’s titles were not games of chance and thus did not violate any laws. The rapid proliferation of such machines in Pennsylvania has long been a matter of contention, but this recent case means they are likely here to stay.

The inciting incident happened in October 2021 when police raided Stroudsburg’s Fill and Fly gas station and Smokin’ Joes Tobacco Shop. The authorities seized 13 skill gaming machines and $36,000 in cash, causing the two businesses to file a joint lawsuit for the Commonwealth to return their seized property.

The ensuing court case found that the seizures had been unwarranted and neither business had broken any laws. Judge Jennifer Harlacher Sibum concluded that the devices qualified as legal games of skill rather than games of chance and were to be returned to their rightful owners. The court decision now gives POM a much more stable legal ground to expand its business.

The sudden surge in skill game cabinets across Pennsylvania has given rise to no small amount of concern. A group called Pennsylvanians Against Gaming Expansion has addressed lawmakers in the Keystone State multiple times, calling for a stricter stance on skill games. They argue that the cabinets directly impact scratch card sales, remain largely unregulated, and drain revenue from numerous state programs, such as those allocated to senior citizens.

On the other hand, POM representatives insisted that their machines significantly benefited Pennsylvania’s economy, generating nearly 200 new jobs. According to the developer, skill game cabinets were a critical supplement to the revenues of many small businesses. POM spokesman Mike Barley noted that the company was always ready to cooperate with the state regarding any new legislation.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to working with the state General Assembly and asking for legislation providing additional regulation and increased tax money.

The skill games developer rejoiced at the court’s decision, as it makes any future efforts to disrupt their foothold in Pennsylvania significantly more difficult. POM makes a point to emphasize its community-focused efforts, often featuring small business owners and information on various charities. The company has successfully defended the legality of its games multiple times, so its prominence in the Keystone State will only grow.

The Big Saturday, Sunday Party, and Sunday Carnival all saw solid turnouts this weekend. Some 1,450 players bought into the $150,000 Sunday Party for $109, and it was “Chunkayyy” that was the last player standing. According to the PartyPoker Blog, chunkayyy was the chip leader at the end of Day 1 with only 16 players remaining. They built on their impressive start to the tournament and clinched the title and a total prize weighing in at $17,016.

With bounties included, all nine finalists won at least $1,660 for their efforts. “Gregskaw” ($1,660), “SmudgeTh3Cat” ($1,843), and “loadrunner” ($3,234) were the first players to bow out, leaving only six players in the hunt to become only the second-ever Sunday Party champion.

The final six became five with the untimely demise of “riicko-Corleone” ($2,233), then four when “The Zone” crashed out ($3,747). Heads-up was set once “IIIIIIII” ($4,740) and “zadymiator” ($6,398) found themselves void of chips.

Chunkayyy and “AreYaWideSham2” fought one-on-one for the title and the final, chunky bounty. Both secured more than $8,800 from the main prize pool, but the last bounties were worth just as much. AreYaWideSham1 fell at the final hurdle and collected $11,740, leaving Chunkayyy to collect a total prize worth $17,016.

Do You Know The Fastest Way to Earn PartyPoker Cashback?

February 26 Edition of the Sunday Party Has $200,000 Guaranteed

There is a special edition of the Sunday Party running at 7:05 p.m. GMT on February 26. The buy-in remains at $109, but the prize pool will be at least $200,000, $50,000 more than usual. It is a brave move on PartyPoker’s part, not least because the inaugural event drew in 1,608 players, while this latest tournament missed the guarantee by 50 entries.

“c0c0b0ng0” Becomes the Sunday Carnival Champion

Sunday Carnival

“c0c0b0ng0” probably danced the night away after turning their $22 investment into $5,165 and the title of Sunday Carnival champion. This weekend’s Sunday Carnival drew in 2,335, which, like the Sunday Party, resulted in a slight overlay.

All but three of the PartyPoker players that reached the nine-handed final table saw a four-figure prize land in their accounts. “Sherrell21” ($412) and “Vamo Baraio” ($744) were the first two sub-$1,000 winners. Sixth-place finisher “Kingsman41” ($769) was the other. Everyone else won at least $1,053 for their efforts.

The eliminations of “NarutoUzokraki” ($1,168), Kingman41, and “lovemiscou2” ($1,053) left the table short-handed, and the Sunday Carnival progressed into the heads-up stage when “tsuyoshi12” ($1,429) and “jrebel99” ($2,800) bowed out.

c0c0b0ng0 defeated “AAanddreams” one-on-one to add $2,289 worth of bounties to their $2,876 main prize pool payout, a total prize worth $5,165. The runner-up scooped $3,207 while no doubt enjoying a confidence boost, having almost become a poker champion at PartyPoker.

$50,000 Sunday Carnival Final Table Results

Delving Into PartyPoker’s Trio of New Weekend Majors

$75,000 Guaranteed in the Sunday Carnival For the Next Two Weeks

It is not only the Sunday Party that is seeing a guarantee boost because the February 19 and February 26 editions of the Sunday Carnival are having their prize pools boosted from $50,000 to $75,000. There are not many $75,000 prize pools awarded for a $22 buy-in, so the next fortnight of Sunday Carnivals are not to be missed.

“DeezNutzz4” Binks the Big Saturday

PartyPoker introduced The Big Saturday to bring some high-stakes action to the site on Saturday, where there was previously a gap in the schedule before the recent tournament schedule revamp. This week saw 148 players take to the virtual felt in the $215 buy-in $30,000 guaranteed Big Saturday, and it was “DeezNutzz4” that was the last player standing, and the recipient of $5,882 in cold, hard cash.

DeezNutz4 defeated “GoodKat” heads-up for the title and the lion’s share of the pot. GoodKat licked their wounds with a $4,104 consolation prize after falling at the final hurdle.

IGA and CNIGA Tribal Gaming Seminar HIghlights from ICE London

IGA and CNIGA Tribal Gaming Seminar HIghlights from ICE London

The Indian Gaming Association and Pechanga.net of America presented a Tribal Gaming Seminar at ICE in London last week. One of the presentations to attendees focused on learning lessons from recent attempts, failures, and successful launches of online casino gaming and sports betting in the U.S.

This was done in light of what legacy gaming providers such as tribal operators are willing to participate in as far as regulatory models and to demonstrate the evolving attitudes of tribal operators looking for a win-win situation with other stakeholders.

The seminar outline suggests that new operators need to secure the cooperation of current stakeholders in the gambling industry before launching products in those states, some of them large and potentially very lucrative, like California where the Pechanga Band of Indians operates Pechanga Resort Casino near Temecula, California. The casino is one of the largest resort casinos in America with over 5,400 slot machines and about 200,000 sq ft of gaming space.

Tribal and Commercial Propositioned Both Failed in November

Two separate ballot propositions for sports betting failed to pass in California during the last regular election when residents were asked whether or not they wanted online betting – a positive result could have eventually led to online casino regulation as well. One of the propositions was backed by commercial operators and the other one was primarily backed by the state’s tribes.

Commercial global brands were unable to push their referendums across the finish line, largely due to a lack of understanding about the tribes’ unique positions in the markets as well as the political clout they heft, along with the revenue goals the legacy operators seek for their constituents – the tribal members.

The synopsis stated that the tribes are not opposed to innovation, modernization, and expansion into new verticals and channels as long as it doesn’t threaten their future participation and involvement in them.

According to an in-depth report on CDC Gaming Reports, when asked how he expects online gaming to change over the next two years, Mark Macarro, Pechanga Band of Indians Chairman, told listeners at the seminar that iGaming is inevitable in the state of California and that Millennials are driving the new gaming channels.

I think there’s a demographic proclivity to want to play online. It doesn’t exist right now with the Baby Boomers and Gen X. But Millennials are different players and we’re not sure that slot machines will be what they want to play”, he said.

Not in my Backyard Unless I Play Too

Macarro was joined on the panel by California Nations Indian Gaming Association (CNIGA) chairman James Siva. The CNIGA chairman was also of the opinion that the commercial betting bill was rejected because voters expected the commercial interests to cooperate with tribal gaming interests in the state.

Siva enumerated the number of tribal gaming interests in the US at 270 and noted that 70 of those tribes’ locations are within the state’s borders.

Tribal gaming represents about a quarter of all gaming revenue in the US and 44% of that occurs in California, according to Siva.

So you break that down and that means that California tribes represent nearly a tenth of the entire gaming market of the U.S. Commercial, tribal, everything”.

He noted that perhaps cooperation or diplomacy may have been a more successful tactic than steamrolling, per see.

Either they massively underestimated the size and reach of those tribes, both politically and financially, or they maybe had bad campaign consultants”, he said.

Panelists Agree Tribal/Commercial Partnerships may be way Forward.

I think there’s still a path for tribes and the commercial operators to work together, but it’s going to be a path and relationship that’s decided by the tribes. This isn’t the first time we’ve had commercial entities want a seat at the table as equal to tribes”, Siva said.

This need for commercial entities to respect the sovereignty of the California tribes and negotiate with them for access to California, as they would with legislators and regulators in other states, was reiterated by Macarro, who promised that the tribes would always counter non-diplomatic attempts to launch in the state

Among the things we learned is that if you have two similar-sounding measures in front of the voters on the same ballot, they will get confused and vote no”, he said.

So if nothing else changes from the corporates, if they make another run at this without doing a lot of the stuff we talked about as being necessary to be successful, it’ll be regarded as hostile by the tribes. And all we would have to do is put another ballot on the initiative. Confuse the voters, they’ll vote no, and both will go down in flames again”, he said.

Flutter Entertainment Consults Shareholders over US Listing

APG Launches Inquiry into Public Health Approach to Tackle Gambling Harm

According to Reuters, the parent company of some of the most successful betting and gaming brands worldwide is considering the new US listing as a means of supporting its further expansion in the country.

The US Listing to Yield Long-Term Benefits

In a statement issued by the London-listed company running its operations in over 20 regulated markets, its board has outlined the positive impact of a potential listing on the US stock exchange market. As per data from the preliminary report, Flutter Entertainment’s ordinary shares are expected to “yield a number of long-term strategic and capital market benefits,” a statement issued by the company reveals.

Among the benefits, Flutter mentioned getting access to better capital markets along with more important domestic investors, reaching US indices, strengthening its profile in the country, and enabling enhanced talent recruitment and retention. Flutter also mentioned additional advantages of a potential listing of ordinary shares in the US, such as greater overall liquidity in its shares and the option to pursue them.

The Dublin-based company that hit the refresh button on its strategic priorities in 2021 is set to initiate its shareholder consultations in the shortest time possible before announcing any formal proposals.

Flutter’s board considered the topic an “important” one for its shareholders while expressing its intentions to consult with them in an extensive manner prior to establishing if they should initiate a formal resolution that would ask for official approval.

Provided the proposal will receive “broad shareholder support,” this would take precedence over the plans to list a small shareholding in the FanDuel brand. The decision was rushed by the US FanDuel brand’s transformation into its largest business revenue-wise. According to the same note issued for shareholders, the group explained that FanDuel could turn into their largest business by value and revenue should the current trends keep going.

Determined to keep providing and defending “gold medal positions in existing businesses” while continuing to cultivate an innovative mindset that would help it profit from future opportunities, Flutter has set four new pillars as part of its new strategy: Grow, Invest, Build, and Future.

The group, which is a responsible worldwide leader that puts sustainability at the core of all of its actions, has also launched a brand new sustainability strategy called the Positive Impact Plan.

Flutter will make the results of the consultation known in due course. Last December, the company announced responsible gambling would remain a key priority for them.

At the start of the year, a report showed that the group might be on the look for a new executive chairman to replace Gary McGann.

GeoComply announces over 100 million Super Bowl online bets

GeoComply announces over 100 million Super Bowl online bets

The creators of GeoComply, the location detection software, now being used by Sportsbook Apps in order to detect VPN location fraud, reported a record 100 million geolocation checks in 23 US states and the District of Columbia with legitimate, online sports wagering throughout Super Bowl LVII weekend.

This was the first Super Bowl event in the state to include legitimate sports wagering.

Description of geolocation check:

The most important geolocation checks include:

  • GeoComply performed 100 million geolocation checks on Saturday and Sunday, a 25 percent increase over last year’s Super Bowl weekend;
  • GeoComply registered 7,4 million accounts over the weekend, an increase of 32 percent compared to last year;
  • Data from GeoComply shows more than 100,000 geolocation checks in and around State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, with over 8,000 fan betting accounts;
  • New York topped all states with 13,9 million GeoComply geolocation checks throughout Super Bowl weekend.

Commenting on Geocomply’s geolocation checks, Anna Sainsbury, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Geocomply, said: “Super Bowl LVII was a record-breaking event. GeoComply data reveals that Americans’ interest in legally betting on the Super Bowl has never been higher. It also showed that many fans at State Farm Stadium embraced their newfound ability to bet while watching the game in person.”

Super Bowl’s huge impact on legal sports betting:

The location of the Super Bowl and the home of the two competing teams had a stimulating effect on legitimate wagering activities in their respective states.

An example of this is: since sports wagering is legitimate in Arizona, where State Farm Stadium is located, large hordes of Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs fans have come to Arizona just to bet on their favorite teams.

Another example is: Kansas legalized online sports betting in September 2022. However, the Kansas City Chiefs stadium and many fans are located in Missouri, where unfortunately sports betting is still illegal. That’s why during Super Bowl weekend, GeoComply reported a record 2,2 million legitimate sports wagering geolocation transactions in Kansas while Missourians tried to legitimize bookies in another states a quarter-of-a-million times and were blocked from placing bets.

One more example of this is that throughout Super Bowl weekend, GeoComply recorded more than 100,000 geolocation checks from mobile wagering to Arizona-regulated online sportsbooks in and around the Super Bowl stadium.

Super Bowl as prime prey for online scammers:

Along with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the Super Bowl is prime prey for online scammers looking to use the increased fan interest for their own benefit.

Throughout the entire week leading up to the Super Bowl, GeoComply’s technology detected and denied access to online fraudsters by blocking over 140,000 fraud attempts. It has protected consumers and sportsbooks from scam groups, account takeovers and ID theft among other financial scams.

In this regard, Ms. Sainsbury added: “It’s no secret that online fraud is a growing concern across all forms of e-commerce. Online sports betting may be a target for fraud, but because every bettor must verify their location, the industry has the data to stop it before it starts. GeoComply is proud to be a cyber security asset to the industry.

“GeoComply’s unprecedented transaction figures from this Super Bowl weekend reflect the growth of legal online sports betting. This tightly regulated industry emphasizes consumer protection, transparency, and accountability. Every state that regulates sports betting is a blow to the predatory black market that operates in the shadows, providing zero safeguards for bettors and no economic benefit to the local community.”

Online sports betting industry as a leading revenue for the US:

Yggdrasil’s new Ancient Greece-themed slots features symbols such as the standard Jack through Ace. Different combinations of those symbols deliver low-paying prizes, but the game offers more chances to win higher prizes. Higher-paying symbols include a ring with a gem, a golden chalice, as well as female and male characters.

Elysian Jackpots delivers quality sound effects and features a colorful background. The slot stands out with vibrant colors and quality design. The background of the game changes depending on the game mode, while the reel itself is positioned in the center of the screen surrounded by an outline resembling an ancient Greek building.

Jackpots, Free Spins and Treasure Chest Bonus

Whenever a player lands three scatter symbols, they enter a bonus game called Treasure Chest. This mini-game grants the players an option to “try to successfully open at least three boxes without a boulder falling on top of them, unlocking exciting rewards,” explains Yggdrasil.

On the other hand, to trigger one of the game’s jackpots, players need to match five gems that have the same color during the game’s Free Spins round. The Free Spins are activated by collecting five keys with identical color gems or by hitting three, four or five scatter symbols during the base gameplay.

Entering the Free Spins round with scatter symbols awards the players with a 3x win multiplier, granting a chance for even higher payouts. During the Free Spins round, the players need to match five gems to win one out of five different jackpots.

Last but not least, Elysian Jackpots offers a feature called Pick & Click. This bonus feature is activated whenever a player lands two scatter symbols on the reels. This grants the players a chance to select one out of five vases that can award keys, cash prizes or Free Spins mode.

Only the nine players that navigated their way to the nine-handed final table secured some of the $355,000 prize pool. Niklas “Lena900” Astedt busted in 11th, while Benjamin “bencb789” Rolle crashed out in tenth and popped the all-important money bubble.

“SerVlaMin” was the first of the nine finalists to fall by the wayside. Ninth place came with $11,067 in prize money. David “MissOracle” Yan ($12,671), fresh from his incredible performances at the 2023 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, finished in eighth, “Phemo” ($16,917) fell in seventh, with Gavin “gavz01” Cochrane ($22,586) seeing his tournament in in sixth place.

Fifth place and $30,155 went to Joao “Naza114” Vieira, Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi ($40,261) joined Vieira on the rail, before Canada’s “Stumpfed” ($53,753) exited stage left, sending the Titans event into the heads-up stage. Here, Muehlocker and Silva struck a deal to lessen the pay jump. Silva held the chip lead, as is evident by the difference in prize money, because Silva banked $85,680 despite busting in second place, with Muehloecker collecting a slightly lesser $81,905 and the title of champion.
