Andrew Neeme and Brad Owen’s Meet-Up Game Returns to WPT Prime Cambodia

Andrew Neeme and Brad Owen's Meet-Up Game Returns to WPT Prime Cambodia

WPT Ambassadors Andrew Neeme and Brad Owen are preparing to host one of their famous Meet-Up Games (MUG) at the upcoming WPT Prime Cambodia festival. WPT Prime returns to NagaWorld Integrated Resort in Phnom Penh, Cambodia between March 9-21, with Neeme and Owen’s eagerly anticipated Meet-Up Game pencilled in for March 15.

March 15 at 1:00 p.m. local time is when the latest Meet-Up Game kicks off. At least 12 tables of $1/$3 and $2/$5 No-Limit Hold’em cash games will run, with Neeme and Owen playing at the 5-star hotel and luxury casino, giving cash game players and fans of their pair’s vlogs a chance to rub shoulders with them. Following the cash game action, Neeme and Owen are hosting a meet and greet from 8:30-10:00 p.m. complete with complimentary food and drinks.

Neeme was in the southeast Asia in 2022 when the WPT Prime tour stopped off in Cambodia.

“I had the pleasure of traveling to Cambodia last year, and it was an unforgettable experience with great food, great people, and great poker. I’m happy to have the opportunity to return and excited to run back the Meet-Up Game.”

Owen was not in Cambodia last year. Indeed, this coming March will be the first time the popular pro has played poker in the Asian country.

“After hearing about Andrew’s time in Cambodia, I really wanted to make the trip as well. I couldn’t let him have all the fun! The MUG is going to be a great time and I’m also pumped to play some tournament poker in Cambodia for the first time.”

The MUG takes place one day before the $1,100 buy-in WPT Prime Cambodia Main Event, a five-day affair boasting a $500,000 guaranteed prize pool. It is likely the guarantee will be blown out of the water, at least if the 2022 edition of the WPT Prime Cambodia Main Event is anything to go by.

In August 2022, some 1,050 players bought in and created a $1,008,100 prize pool. Philippines’ David Erquiaga triumphed in the 2022 WPT Prime Cambodia Main Event and walked away with $137,008 plus a $10,400 seat to the WPT World Championship at the Wynn Las Vegas. The high-volume pro defeated Taiwan’s Chi Je Chu heads-up, resigning the runner-up to a $120,980 consolation prize. Third-place finisher Junnie Pamplona banked $106,482, the Main Event’s other six-figure payout.

Dreamscape Unveils Plans for Rio Hotel & Casino Revamp

Rank Group Publishes Interim H1 Results, Warns of High Costs Pressure

The New York-based real estate development and investment firm confirmed Wednesday it completed an $850 million capital raise. Raymond James led the equity private raise for the capital placement while Wells Fargo was in charge of managing the funding. Thanks to the capital raise, Dreamscape will finance a multi-phase renovation of its iconic Rio Hotel & Casino Las Vegas property.

This was Dreamscape’s first gaming property which the company acquired from Caesars Entertainment back in 2019. Famous as the first all-suite hotel to open in Las Vegas back in 1990, Rio Hotel & Casino holds a leadership position within the rich history of the gambling capital of the world.

Dreamscape confirmed it will modernize the two-tower venue and bring new amenities for the guests of the venue. At the same time, the company confirmed it plans to preserve the location’s rich legacy while ensuring supreme experiences for the visitors. It’s important to mention that the property will not be closed during the renovation.

Besides the renovation, the capital raise will contribute toward the launch of two new Dreamscape platforms. Those are Dreamscape Entertainment Integrated Resorts, a company operating hospitality, gaming and entertainment assets, as well as Dreamscape platforms: Dreamscape Entertainment Properties, described as “an experiential real estate investment trust that will own gaming, hospitality and entertainment assets.”

The Company Plans to Expand Further

Duane Bouligny, Wells Fargo Corporate and Investment Bank’s managing director, explained that last year was incredibly challenging for real estate and gaming developments. Still, he outlined: “Amidst this challenging economic environment, we are pleased to have successfully led the debt capital raise for Dreamscape as the company launches its new gaming and entertainment platforms, renovates its first gaming property, and continues to diversify and scale.”

As Dreamscape continues to evolve and expand, we knew the gaming and entertainment sector would be a natural fit and become a central part of our business.

Eric Birnbaum, CEO and founder of Dreamscape

Eric Birnbaum, Dreamscape’s CEO and founder, explained that on its path to further growth, the company identified the entertainment and gaming vertical as the perfect sector. He pointed out that Dreamscape is excited about delivering “dynamic lifestyle experiences.” Finally, Birnbaum predicted that the company will continue to grow and differentiate itself as a leading operator within the entertainment and gaming vertical.

EPT Paris: A Brief History of Poker and Gambling in the Capital

EPT Paris: A Brief History of Poker and Gambling in the Capital

You might not know, but there are no casinos in Paris!

Instead, you can show off your poker skills or have fun with table games at one of the French capital’s gaming clubs. With the first European Poker Tour Paris in history just around the corner, let’s take a look at the relationship between Paris and gambling.

Stay up to date with all the action at EPT Paris

The turbulent arrival of gambling in Paris

The French have always been gamblers and in the early 16th century, lotteries could be found throughout the French states. They were so successful that they were even banned in Paris in 1598 and 1661, only to return in 1700 following the creation of a national lottery. It was, officially at least, the only game allowed in the capital. Unofficially, clandestine gambling houses were still “the place to be” and all the high aristocracy mixed there.

The closest game to poker at the time is thought to have been poque, which spread to France in the 17th century. Poque was based on a 16th-century Spanish game, primero, in which each player was dealt three cards and bluffing was a key element of the game.

The appeal of the game grew further following the French Revolution and by the end of the 19th century many ‘cercles’, modelled on the English gambling clubs, had sprung up in Paris and in the seaside resorts frequented by the bourgeoisie.

It was not until the 20th century, in 1907, that the state resigned itself to legalising gambling activities in France in an attempt to keep control. Poker and table games first appeared in casinos in seaside resorts, then in 1923 in private circles, but still not in Paris! For fear of creating public disorder in the capital, the State banned all casinos within a 100-kilometre radius, with the exception of the spa town of Enghien-les-Bains.

“Ginormous” PCA Sets the Tone for 2023 Ahead of EPT Paris says Walsh

The rise of poker and gambling in Paris and then its sudden end in the 2000s

In order to fight against illegal gambling, the Ministry of the Interior eventually changed its mind and granted special dispensations authorising a few gaming circles. This was the beginning of the golden age of gambling in Paris. At the end of the Second World War, the French rediscovered their love for gambling and in the 20th century there were a good dozen “cercles” in Paris; Aviation Club de France, Cercle Haussmann, Cercle Wagram, Cercle Anglais, Cercle Clichy-Montmartre, l’Industrie, Cercle Gaillon and so on…to name only the most famous.

Aviation Club de France
Aviation Club de France

What could you play? At first, there were the traditional table games and games against the bank, but no poker or games such as blackjack, roulette or slot machines, as games of pure chance were forbidden. The historic ACF was the first gaming club to open a poker room in France in 1995. Three years later, the first Grand Prix de Paris was organised, bringing together poker players from around the world.

But this truce with the government did not last long. These establishments were run as associations under the French law of 1901, officially non-profit, which ended up being a problem. Faced with the opaque accounting of some circles, the State began to fight against these places in the 2000s.

As a result of increasingly stringent regulations, the circles closed their doors one after the other. The Cercle Clichy Montmartre was the last establishment to close its doors in autumn 2018, sounding the end, temporarily, of the long history of Parisian gaming circles.

January 1, 2018: the return of gambling in Paris

Farewell to the gaming cercles, hello to the gaming clubs! In 2018, the State authorises the reopening of gambling establishments in Paris under certain conditions and on an experimental basis. Instead of “cercles”, they will now be gambling clubs, organised under a commercial company system with an auditor.

Seven establishments opened their doors:

In July 2020, the Club Pierre Charron also opened. A stone’s throw from the Champs-Elysées they offer cash game tables and several table games such as Poker 21, Baccarat or Punto Banco but still no slot machines, blackjack or roulette.

Poker tournaments returned to the capital in small steps with a few small events in 2019, then in 2020, no less than 10 festivals were organised before the covid pandemic hit the world.

The government gives the green light for table games to reopen in Paris in June 2021. And now since November 2022, four new games are authorised in Parisian establishments, Black Jack, Craps, Sic-bo (a dice game of Chinese origin) and Bingo.

Finally, after the grand return to Paris of the World Poker Tour in 2023, which has been taking place since 22 January and until 5 February at the Club Circus Paris, it was PokerStars who announced last December that the very first European Poker Tour would be held in the capital from 15 to 26 February. The festival will be held at the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile, in partnership with Le Club Barrière Paris, which is housed at the iconic 104 Avenue des Champs-Elysées.

MGM Resorts International Sells Gold Strike Tunica to CNE Gaming for $450M

FortuneCoins Inks Partnership Agreement with Mascot Gaming

The NYSE-listed Standard and Poor’s 500 international entertainment company has inked the transaction for $450 million in cash received from the Cherokee Nation Businesses’ subsidiary. The company with an impressive portfolio consisting of 31 global hotel and gaming destinations used Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP as a legal counsel to complete the sale.

MGM Resorts, Ready to Grow

MGM Resorts International’s president and chief executive officer Bill Hornbuckle called Gold Strike Hotel & Casino in Tunica “an iconic property in Mississippi,” with employees representative of southern hospitality at its finest. Hornbuckle also wished Gold Strike a bright and lucrative future ahead while speaking about their plans for the new proceeds.

As explained by the treasurer and chief financial officer Jonathan Halkyard, MGM Resorts plans to use the money to strengthen its balance sheet, use more capital to enjoy more growth and return more capital to its shareholders.

At the closing time of the transaction, the company’s master lease with VICI Properties, Inc., which also comprises Gold Strike, will be changed to cut the annual rent by $40 million. This will be done in order to account for the fresh sale of the Gold Strike operations. MGM Resorts anticipates obtaining net cash proceeds after taxes and fees estimated to be $350 million.

Cherokee Nation Entertainment to Own 11 Casinos

As a result of the newly sealed deal, Cherokee Nation Entertainment will operate and own 11 casinos. The list includes the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa, three resort hotels, three golf courses, a horse-racing track, and a series of additional retail operations.

For the year ended December 31, 2022, the Gold Strike property recorded $47 million in net income and $98 million in Adjusted Property Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, Amortization, and Restructuring or Rent Costs.

Cherokee National plans on further expanding its gaming and hospitality businesses while putting its strategic plans of growth into action. The new acquisition is expected to contribute to the growth of the Cherokee Nation’s economy while also attracting positive changes in the local economies.

MGM Resorts decided to sell the Mississippi property as a means of narrowing its focus in the region to just one resort, Beau Rivage Resort & Casino. The company also decided to dedicate more time and resources to driving the success of this world-class property.

Beau Rivage is a waterfront casino resort located in Biloxi and it is owned by Vici Properties. It provides a full range of hotel, dining, and entertainment services, including non-stop casino options.

In April 2022, MGM Resorts added Aristocrat’s Buffalo Zone game to Beau Rivage casino’s offering.
In December 2022, MGM Resorts International announced it would invest $2 billion in its Chinese subsidiary as a result of the Macau concession’s extension.

Playson Partners Up With Bingoal for Dutch Expansion

Playson Partners Up With Bingoal for Dutch Expansion

A leading cutting-edge content supplier to the iGaming industry, Playson, has entered a partnership with the prominent European online casino operator Bingoal. The deal will help the fast-growing digital game developer to extend the reach of its titles in the Dutch market, whereas the renowned operator will benefit from the increased portfolio of premium titles now available on Bingoal’s platform for the demanding Dutch player community.

Popular series goes live:

The content supply deal specifically anticipates the initial availability of Playson’s five most popular releases to go live on the Belgian operator’s platform in the Netherlands as a sample for the exciting but demanding market. However, if this trial order proves successful, the supply of the studio’s content will surely turn into a continuous line shortly.

For the time being, the five titles, packed with features, that are now available on Bingoal’s online platform originate from the studio’s popular Hold and Win series – Royal Coins 2, Lion Gems, Joker’s Coins, Hit the Bank, and Wolf Power. As indicated above, more slots will follow over the coming months to meet the prospective player demand for a comprehensive provider’s slot portfolio.

B2B partnership:

Bingoal, as a casino operator with a 20-year market presence, will be the middle-man between Playson and the players to ensure the best possible provision of the most popular supplier’s titles to platform visitors. Having built its reputation in Belgium, the casino brand acquired the supplier license for the Dutch market in October 2021. It will now use the license to provide the top gaming experience in the Netherlands through the latest B2B partnership.

Expanded footprint:

Its partner in this deal, Playson, currently supplies cutting-edge innovative content across 18 regulated markets. The developer’s library consists of over 85 casino games certified for all major European jurisdictions enabling the studio to rapidly expand around the world. The latest partnership with Bingoal will expand Playson’s footprint in the competitive Dutch-regulated market.

Successful journey:

Golazin Rahattalab, Sales Manager at Playson, said: “The Netherlands is one of the key markets for us in Europe and we are delighted that Bingoal has agreed to showcase some of our most popular slots. We have already released a handful of games this year and this new partnership has added excitement to what has already been a fantastic start to 2023. CA Lottery Reveals Edwin Castro as $2.04bn Powerball Winner

CA Lottery Reveals Edwin Castro as $2.04bn Powerball Winner

The jackpot, which is the largest lottery jackpot in the history of the US, was hit with just one winning ticket that was sold to Edwin Castro in Los Angeles County, an unincorporated community in the foothills northeast of the city of Los Angeles. The ticket with winning numbers 10, 33, 41, 47 and 56, and 10 as the red Powerball number, was sold at Joe’s Service Center in Altadena right on time for the big drawing that took place in November.

Lucky Draw of a Long Rolling Sequence

Millions of other lottery players tried their luck at the mouth-watering multibillion-dollar jackpot that had eluded players for several months prior to Castro finally hitting it on its 41st draw of the same rolling sequence.

The Powerball jackpot is initiated at a value of $20 million and grows in size every time no one manages to win it. Over 11.2 million tickets won cash prizes during the same drawing held on November 7, 2022 drawing, including two additional big winning tickets in California which each matched five numbers and have prizes worth more than $1 million each.

Similar to other jackpot winners, the player who denied giving any interviews and making any public appearances was presented with two choices: to receive the entirety of his winnings in the form of a lump sum or to opt for 30 annual payments.

Castro, who is an ex-student of the California public school system, opted for the cash value of the jackpot, which represented a grand total of $997.6 million. The center that is owned by Joe Chahayed also earned $1 million in bonus money for selling the winning ticket to the player. This happened because California Lottery winners do not have to necessarily be residents of the state in order to be granted a win.

“Shocked and Ecstatic”

California laws require jackpot winners to be part of public records. However, any other personal information including age and address is not to be disclosed to the public.

Not wishing to be in the spotlight, the big winner sent a written statement to the California Lottery, saying that he felt “shocked and ecstatic to have won the Powerball drawing,” while calling the California public school system the true winner. This is because the California Lottery is known to generously fund the public schools and colleges in the state.

Reminiscing about his own studies completed at a public school in California, Castro called it “gratifying” to learn about the perks that the California school system will be benefiting from as a result of his own good fortune. The self-supporting state agency anticipates the state’s auditing process will conclude that the lottery delivered public schools in the state a record amount of $2 billion in the fiscal year 2021- 2022.

The lottery also contributed $1 billion to support public schools on a yearly basis over the course of the past 22 years.

In January, a Powerball lottery ticket sold in Washington brought its lucky player a $754.6m jackpot.

Dreamscape Raises $850m to Fund Rio Casino Revamp and Invest in Similar Properties

Rio Casino Las Vegas

The former Las Vegas home of the World Series of Poker, the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, is getting a major makeover. News emerged Monday that the Rio’s parent company, New York real estate investor Dreamscape Companies, has raised $850m to remodel the resort and invest in similar properties.

Bloomberg cited an interview with Dreamscape founder and CEO Eric Birnbaum in which he said he’d created both a real estate investment trust (REIT) to own the resort and a property management company. He intends to leverage the two new entities to acquire more gambling and entertainment-related assets.

people crave experiences and being with others.”

Driving this move is the CEO’s belief there is potential for growth in this sector as leisure activities and travel bounces back to pre-pandemic levels. He said that something he learned from the pandemic was that people crave experiences and being with others.”

Dreamscape’s REIT will operate along similar lines to its New York-based peer VICI Properties, formed as a spin-off of Caesars Entertainment in 2017. Caesars sold the Rio to Dreamscape in 2019 for $516m.

The lion’s share of the $850m will go toward the REIT and the remainder to the management company. Makeover plans for the Rio include entertainment options, restaurants, and rooms.

Liverpool vs Chelsea Premier League Odds, Time, and Prediction

Real Madrid is the defending champion, but Los Blancos’ 2022-23 journey could come to an end sooner than expected. It’s because, in the first round of the UCL knockout stage, they’re taking on Liverpool who will probably go all-in.

When, Where, and How to Watch?

  • Place: Anfield, Liverpool, England
  • Date: Thursday, February 21, 2023
  • Time: 3:00 PM ET
  • How to Watch: CBS

Liverpool’s Only Chance to Win Silverware

The Reds from Liverpool are sitting in the middle portion of the Premier League table with almost 20 points fewer than the table leaders. That said, they practically stand no chance of winning the Prem this season. Jurgen Klopp’s men are also out of the two English cups – the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.

What this means is that their only chance to salvage the 2022-23 season is to win the Champions League. Their form suggests they don’t have a good chance of making this dream come true, but the fact is that they do have a pretty decent roster. The only problem is that many of their key men are injured.

In fact, injuries are what caused Liverpool to play poorly throughout this campaign. The good news, however, is that some of their crucial players are going to return within the next couple of weeks – Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Virgil van Dijk, etc.

With these guys in top shape, the Reds do look capable of challenging the UCL trophy. But can they knock Real Madrid out of the competition without those guys on the pitch?

Los Blancos Seem to Love Playing Against Liverpool

Real Madrid won five of their last five duels with Liverpool. The last time they lost to the Reds was in 2009. Further, the last time these two met, Los Blancos defeated the Reds 1-0. It happened last year in the Champions League Final at Stade de France in Paris.

Even though Liverpool had significantly more goal chances than Real, the Spanish heavyweight managed to make its chances count. Los Blancos had only one shot at goal, and it went it.

We expect to see Carlo Ancelotti go with basically the same tactic this coming Tuesday. His team will be the one to defend at Anfield, looking for their chances from set-pieces and counterattacks.

Liverpool vs Real Madrid Prediction

Despite being far from impressive this entire season, Liverpool have been great at home. At Anfield, they’ve only suffered one loss this season, which is proof of how important home turf is for this team. We expect them to play well on Tuesday, meaning that we’re almost 100% certain they’re not going to lose. But can they beat the reigning UCL champions?

We think they might. Liverpool will go all-in as the Champions League is the only competition in which they can win a trophy.

Picks: Liverpool to win and over 2.5 goals
