Betting GGR in January Sets a New Record in New Hampshire

Malta-Licensed Casinos Reach Record Number of Online Players in January-June 2022

The New Hampshire Lottery, the regulator in charge of sports betting in the state, revealed that the combined betting handle by retail and mobile sports betting hit $97.2 million in January. Although this result didn’t mark a record, it was still the highest wagering handle reported for the last six months.

More importantly, the $97.2 million in combined sports betting handle translated to $12.3 million in GGR last month. This result, when compared to the $8.3 million reported for the last month of 2022, December, marked a significant increase. Additionally, a year-over-year comparison to the January 2022 result also marked a significant increase of nearly 54%.

Currently, online sports betting operations are taxed at 51% of sports betting revenue, while retail sports betting is subject to a 50% tax in New Hampshire. According to the latest report released by the New Hampshire Lottery, the $12.3 million in GGR resulted in a total of $5.6 million in proceeds for the state in January.

This result also marked an increase considering that a month earlier, in December, the state’s share was only $3.8 million. Similarly to GGR, the $5.6 million in proceeds for the state was the best result in the last six months.

Retail and Mobile Betting GGR Increases

Generally, mobile sports betting brings more proceeds when compared to retail betting activities and New Hampshire is no exception. The $97.2 million in betting handle reported last month breaks down to $75.2 million in mobile betting handle and $21.9 million in retail betting handle.

Not unexpectedly, the GGR for both retail and mobile sports betting marked an increase. Back in December, the retail betting GGR was only $389,635, bringing the state $126,927 in proceeds. In contrast, GGR reported a month later, in January, was $4.3 million, marking the best result for the last six months. The $4.3 million in retail sports betting GGR translated to $1.9 million in proceeds for New Hampshire for January.

Mobile sports betting also enjoyed an outstanding performance last month. In total, the mobile betting handle of $75.2 million resulted in $8 million in GGR. This marked a strong result, considering that GGR has been around the $6 million mark in the last months. The share of New Hampshire from sports betting last month was $3,666,572, which came close to the December result which was $3,682,445.

Superbet to Join the Big League with Hans-Holger Albrecht as New Chairman

Wazdan-Play North Partnership Inked in 2022 Is Growing Strong

The Romania-based technology and entertainment company has announced the new appointment of the European Commission president’s brother will go into effect starting February 28.

What Will the New Chairman Bring to the Table?

The group that plans to be listed on the most prestigious capital markets in the world has chosen Hans-Holger Albrecht to replace former chairman of the board Sacha Dragic. The latter will stay on the board as a member. Albrecht’s rich senior and board-level experience accumulated from several senior roles is expected to help the company go to the “next level in terms of strategic vision,” according to chief executive officer (CEO) Johnny Hartnett.

Hartnett also called the appointment of the new chairman “an amazing moment” for the group that is currently writing an essential page of its story. The CEO praised Albrecht’s impressive know-how in “nurturing successful companies” which is expected to help the group maximize its competitive edge and grow and thrive in global markets.

At the moment, Albrecht is Veon Ventures’s board member and chairman for the Scout24 Group and Storytel, an online real estate platform, and an audiobook and e-book streaming service. He was also chief executive of the popular music streaming service Deezer and has spent his time fulfilling the position of president and chief executive officer of telecom and media group Tigo/Millicom International.

Albrecht has expressed his pleasure in joining Superbet while speaking about the “exciting opportunity in terms of its growth trajectory and continued expansion plans” and praising the company’s ambitions, high level of innovation, and responsible approach to customers.

Last September, Hacksaw Gaming announced it would launch its casino content with Superbet in Romania. The same decision was announced by Evoplay during the same month.

Superbet Group, Ready to Enter the Big League

In 2019, Superbet received a strategic investment of €175 million ($185 million) from the leading international investment business Blackstone Inc. which has helped it expand its foothold in 10 countries.

One of the primary markets where Superbet currently operates is Romania, where the group is the nationwide leader earning 10x more than its direct competitor and second-ranking operator, Betano, as well as Belgium and Poland. There, the group also organizes a plethora of programs through its foundation and holds the greatest chess tournaments on the globe.

Also in Romania, Superbet runs various programs through the foundation and organizes currently the biggest chess tournament in the world. Superbet is also very active in Poland and Belgium. Last year, the company ranked in the 11th position in the top 50 most powerful gaming and sports betting companies, going up 38 positions in the past four years.

During the same year, the company also went up five positions in the prestigious eGaming Review (EGR) Power 50 top, reaching the 11th position compared to 17th place in 2021 and 28th place in 2020.

In 2023, Superbet Group plans to rank in the top ten most successful companies in the global gaming and sports betting industry, and Albrecht’s appointment is expected to help it climb to this position.

Stephen Chidwick Picks Up Another €25,000 No Limit Hold’em Title at EPT Paris (€324,500)

Stephen Chidwick Picks Up Another €25,000 No Limit Hold'em Title at EPT Paris (€324,500)

After seven and half hours of play, Day 2 of the €25,000 No Limit Hold’em III at PokerStars European Poker Tour Paris wrapped up with Stephen Chidwick taking down the final high-stakes tournament of the series. Chidwick overcame Adrian Mateos in heads-up play after a war of attrition to collect the title, trophy and €324,500 allocated for first place.

Mateos entered the day as the clear chip leader and put his monster stack to work for most of the day; however, when play got to four-handed, Chidwick sprang to life and ended Mateos’ dominance.

There were 22 players to kick off today’s proceedings, with nine players opting to take advantage of the late registration period that was open until Day 2 got underway.

This brought the overall entries to 40 and they created the €940,800 prize pool where the top six finishers would make the money.

Final Table Payouts

Place Player Country Prize (EUR)
1 Stephen Chidwick United Kingdom €324,500
2 Adrian Mateos Spain €211,700
3 Jean-Noel Thorel France €145,800
4 Daniel Dvoress Canada €108,200
5 Steve O’Dwyer Ireland €84,700
6 Justin Saliba United States €65,900

Day 2 Recap

Nick Petrangelo
Nick Petrangelo

As mentioned, there were a handful of players such as Jonathan Jaffe, Nick Petrangelo, Mike Watson, Bruno Volkmann and Kazuhiko Yotsushika who decided to hop into the fray at the last possible moment. However, their attendance was brief and they were quickly sent to the wrong side of the rail.

Andrew Lichtenberger, Motoyoshi Okamura, Thomas Muehloecker, Joao Vieira, Sam Greenwood, Galen Hall and Teun Mulder were all players to bag from Day 1. But like the names above, they fell short of the money on the last day of EPT Paris.

On the final table bubble, Aleksejs Ponakovs was left short by Daniel Dvoress after the latter paired up on the river to take the pot. Day 2 entrant Felipe Ketzer finished Ponakovs off moments later.

When the final table formed, the action remained fast and furious, with Juan Pardo being ejected from the final nine in twenty minutes. His pocket nines were pipped by the pair of tens held by Dvoress and he found no assistance on the runout.

Ten minutes later, Ketzer fell on the wrong side of a flip after Mateos’ ace-queen paired up on the runout to best Ketzer’s pocket eights. Ketzer’s departure marked the start of the money bubble and play was expected to slow down. This was not the case, as Sirzat Hissou followed Ketzer out the door the following hand. Hissou was all in preflop with Big Slick but could not leapfrog Dvoress’ pocket queens.

Justin Saliba
Justin Saliba

Another fresh face on Day 2 was Justin Saliba and he squeaked into the money.

After calling incorrectly for his tournament life on the river against Mateos, he was the player to take home the min-cash. It was a lovely day’s work for Saliba, who netted a €40,000 profit thanks to his four hours on the felt.

Steve O’Dwyer was next to go and Mateos was again the eliminator. His pocket sixes flopped a full house to see off the Irishman. It was O’Dwyer’s third cash at EPT Paris as he racked up a seventh-place finish in the €50,000 Super High Roller for €155,100, which was then followed by a €134,900 result a few days later in another €25,000 buy-in event.

Four-handed play lasted a while, with Jean-Noel Thorel and Chidwick, who also bought in on Day 2, finding double-ups through Mateos and Dvoress, respectively. Chidwick then won several pots from Thorel and doubled through Mateos to put him second in the chip counts.

Dvoress’ stack began to dwindle and he bowed out in third place. He lost a flip to Thorel to leave himself short-stacked and then was ousted after his jack-ten fell to Chidwick’s ace-nine.

Chidwick then matched Mateos’ stack after doubling through the Spaniard. Stacks remained as they were for quite some time as chips were traded back and forth. However, Thorel’s run halted when Chidwick rivered the nut flush against his flopped pair.

Adrian Mateos
Adrian Mateos

Chidwick entered heads-up with the chip lead, which then changed hands several times. Chidwick then had one hand on the victory after laying a perfectly timed trap with pocket jacks. Shortly after, Mateos was all in with pocket fives and was up against the Englishman’s nine-seven. Mateos was set for another double until Chidwick paired up on the river to seal his second victory of EPT Paris.

This concludes PokerNews’ coverage of the €25,000 No Limit Hold’em III but be sure to check out the €10,300 High Roller finale.

Top Casino Buffets Las Vegas – Best Casino Buffets Las Vegas

Where To Find The Best Casino Buffets In Las Vegas

Las Vegas has always been about excess. From the poker table to the hotel suites, bigger definitely means better.

This mentality has trickled down into Sin City’s food culture where buffets, the ultimate in excess, have traditionally reigned supreme.

Unfortunately, the Coronavirus pandemic has seen many of the city’s famous buffets like Aria Buffet, The Flamingo’s Paradise Garden Buffet, and Le Village Buffet, close.

To make matters worse the famous Las Vegas buffet pass, known as the Buffet of Buffets, is no longer operational.

This means visiting more than a couple of Las Vegas buffets could become quite expensive.

With that in mind, our advice is to pick your buffet carefully.

Luckily, Sin City still has a number of excellent buffets that you can sink your teeth into.

Here is everything you need to know about our favorites.

The buffet is also known for having brilliant service with staff members being polite, competent, and eager to assist.

Portugal’s Diogo Coelho Takes Down EPT Paris €10,300 High Roller (€810,500)

Portugal's Diogo Coelho Takes Down EPT Paris €10,300 High Roller (€810,500)

The third and final day of the €10,300 High Roller at PokerStars European Poker Tour Paris finally wrapped up after 13-plus hours of play in an event that required last-minute structure adjustments to finish on time. Portugal’s Diogo Coelho was the one left standing at the end of it all to take home the trophy and €810,500 after defeating Russia’s Aleksandr Shevliakov in a brief heads-up battle.

Despite being a High Roller event, the tournament managed to attract a massive field of 431 runners to generate a prize pool of €4,137,600. The field included many of the high-stakes regulars like Timothy Adams (23rd – €32,900) and Tom-Aksel Bedell (15th – €50,000), as well as plenty of up-and-coming players looking for their first major score.

One of those up-and-comers was Coelho, a 27-year-old who has been playing professionally for five years but had just $75,304 in live tournament earnings before binking more than ten times that.

“I’m feeling well. Very hyped in the moment,” Coelho told PokerNews in a winner’s interview. “It’s amazing. I’ve never won a prize like that before, so for me it’s everything.”

EPT Paris €10,300 High Roller Final Table Results

PLACE PLAYER COUNTRY PRIZE (IN EURO)
  1 Diogo Coelho Portugal €810,500
  2 Aleksandr Shevliakov Russia €505,800
  3 Toni Kaukua Finland €361,300
  4 Martin Stausholm Denmark €277,800
5 Mauricio Ferreira Pais Germany €213,700
  6 Mario Navarro Spain €164,400
  7 Martin Jacobson Sweden €126,500
  8 Christian Pedersen Denmark €103,700
  9 Vlada Stojanovic Serbia €86,400

The final table included a star in 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Martin Jacobson (7th – €126,500) and fellow Scandinavians Christian Pedersen (8th – €103,700) and Toni Kaukua (3rd – €361,300).

Coelho, who is primarily an online grinder, acknowledged the final table had many “good players who usually play more live poker than me” and “probably feel more comfortable than me” on the live felt.

“But I don’t think they have a lot of edge on me because of that,” he said. “I think it was a fun tournament, a fun final table. A good vibe for almost everyone.”

Day 3 Action

It was shaping to be a long day from the beginning when 44 players returned on Day 3 for some deep-stacked poker across 60-minute levels.

It took several hours to reach the final three tables after the eliminations of 2022 GPI Player of the Year Stephen Song (39th – €21,600), recent PCA $50,000 7-Handed champion Conor Beresford (31st – €24,900) and bracelet winner Antoine Vranken (25th – €28,600).

Several players fell to make way for the final two tables, including Jun Obara, who bowed out in 20th place when he called down Coelho with just ace-high before getting the bad news as Coelho had flopped trips.

Other players to fall ahead of the final table include David Miscikowski and Rui Ferreira before the Balenciaga-sporting Fahredin Mustafov bowed out in tenth place as his nines couldn’t survive a flip against Coelho’s suited ace-queen. Ace-queen was also that hand that doomed Vlada Stojanovic in ninth place when his king-jack couldn’t pull ahead in a heads-up pot against Shevliakov.

Next out was Christian Pederson, who suffered a tough beat as his kings were cracked by the ace-deuce of Kaukua in a pivotal hand that propelled Kaukua to his deep run.

Jacobson entered the final table as a short stack but managed to ladder and double up before falling in seventh to Coelho. The Swede who famously won $10 million in the 2014 World Series after running up a short stack had to settle for €126,500 this time around.

Kaukua had the chip lead and was pushing his opponents around for most of the final table until losing a critical flip to give Coelho the lead and to take the role of the short stack.

Toni Kaukua

“It’s a crucial pot,” Coelho recalled. This pot, If I lose, I’m out of the tournament. If I win, I have 70% of the chips in play. So it’s a very important flip.”

The talkative Finn managed to ladder a bit before getting it in with ace-king to dominate the ace-nine of Coelho. Unfortunately, a runner-runner flush sent Kaukua packing and set Coelho up to have a big heads-up chip lead.

Heads-up play lasted for around a half hour as Shevliakov managed to stay afloat with less than 15 big blinds but could never get anything going.

In the final hand, Coelho open-jammed with ace-eight and Shevliakov called off with queen-seven. An ace-high flop all but sealed it and Shevliakov failed to improve to go out as the runner-up.

As soon as the river card hit, Coelho’s rail of Portuguese grinders, including Daniel Custodio and 11th-place finisher Ferreira, both of whom stuck around for a winner’s photo, erupted in celebration as their friend locked up his biggest score.

That wraps up the PokerNews live reporting team’s coverage of €10,300 High Roller on the final day of the inaugural EPT Paris stop. Check out the EPT Paris hub to see coverage of other events here in France’s capital.

Jake Paul Jokingly Blames ‘Drake Curse’ for Loss to Tommy Fury

Jake Paul versus Tommy Fury

YouTube personality and professional boxer Jake Paul has jokingly blamed rapper Drake — real name Aubrey Drake Graham — for his loss to Tommy Fury.

Drake, who has a reputation of cursing major sports teams with his high-stakes wagers, lost $400,000 betting on Paul in his fight on Sunday night. Ending in a split decision, it marked the YouTube star’s first professional defeat.

Upon hearing Drake had lost big betting on him, Paul quipped:

F*ck this is Drake’s fault.”

Paul, however, isn’t actually blaming the music star for incurring the so-called ‘Drake curse,’ instead admitting full responsibility for losing. He even promised the rapper that he would win a rematch with Fury, asserting: “Sorry Drake, I’m going to get that W in the rematch.” He acknowledged that the loss was a humbling experience and said he would “take it on the chin and come back.”

Paul had Fury on the canvas with a short left hand early in the final round of the eight-round cruiserweight match up. Despite this, Fury remained in easy control for long stretches of the bout.

Paul’s loss gives more ammunition to boxing traditionalists who think the social media star is ruining their sport. Fury was the first fighter with an actual boxing background Paul has faced, raising questions about the controversial star’s future in the sport.

Jon Jones vs Cyril Gane UFC 285 Odds, Time, and Prediction

Jon Jones vs Cyril Gane UFC 285 Odds, Time, and Prediction

Jon Jones vs Cyril Gane is the main event of UFC 285, and one of the most exciting heavyweight fights in years. Jones, who’s widely considered the light heavyweight GOAT has a chance to win the title in the heavyweight division. The only obstacle standing in his way comes in the form of Gane.

Jon Jones vs Cyril Gane Odds

Moneyline Odds
Jon Jones -166
Cyril Gane +130

*Odds taken from FanDuel on Monday, February 27, 2023.

When, Where, and How to Watch?

  • Place: T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada
  • Date: Saturday, March 4, 2023
  • Time: ~10:00 PM ET
  • How to Watch: PPV

Jon Jones Hasn’t Been This Big and Strong Ever

Jon “Bones” Jones is 26-1-1 in his professional career, but one may argue that he’s actually 28-0. His only loss was a disqualification for illegal elbows in a fight that he was winning. The fight that was declared no contest was originally a KO win for Jones over Daniel Cormier in the title fight. The win was overturned after Jones tested positive for a banned substance.

In his pro career, Jones has defeated a number of elite fighters, including the aforementioned DC, but also Lyoto Machida, Vitor Belfort, Chael Sonnen, Alexander Gustafsson, Glover Teixeira, and others.

Jones is famous for being a fighter who likes beating his opponents with their own weapons. He outwrestled Cormier, KO-d Gustafsson, and so on. Will he try to outbox Cyril Gane on Saturday? MMA experts don’t think so. Instead, they think Jones will focus on Gane’s Achilles’ heel, which seems to be grappling.

Cyril Gane Needs More Weapons to Defeat Jones

Cyril “Bon Gamin” Gane (11-1) is a heavyweight who moves like a middleweight. This explains why in the title bout against Francis Ngannou, he didn’t get hit too many times. Instead, Gane lost that fight because Ngannou completely outgrappled him.

No one expected that Ngannou was going to grapple, not even Gane, which is the No. 1 reason why he lost the title bout. This time, however, he’s probably ready for the fight on the floor. Of course, the question is whether he’ll need to use his grappling skills at all.

The thing is that Gane is a fantastic kickboxer with Muay Thai experience who’s got a much longer reach than Jones. He does seem to have what it takes to keep his opponent at a distance.

Jon Jones vs Cyril Gane Prediction

Jon Jones’ path to victory is to take the fight to the ground. If he wants to win the title, Cyril Gane will have to outbox his opponent. So, which tactic will prevail?

Betting odds are leaning in Jones’ favor, but we think that the three-year hiatus will take its toll. Jones isn’t fast enough to keep up with Gane, who also has fists made of steel and is going to hurt Jones with his punches.

Still, we do not think Gane will knock him out. Instead, he’ll try to land as many significant strikes as possible in order to win by decision.

Pick: Cyril Gane to win by decision

1999 WSOP Champion Noel Furlong Leaves Behind $59.5 Million Estate

1999 WSOP Champion Noel Furlong Leaves Behind $59.5 Million Estate

Former Main Event champion Noel Furlong might have pocketed $1,000,000 for his victory in 1999, but by the time he passed away in June 2021, he had amassed a whole lot more.

A recent article has laid bare the estate of the former World Champion, with over €56 million ($59.5 million) left behind to his family.

The figure is so vast that were it all to have come from poker, he would sit second in the all-time money list, trailing only Justin Bonomo. But as you’ll find out, Furlong enjoyed much success away from the poker tables.

Furlong’s Poker Career

Furlong’s death at the age of 83 was met by an outpouring of grief from those within the poker community who knew him. 16-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth, who won the WSOP Main Event ten years before Furlong, called him one of the most successful businessmen in Ireland who handled himself “with class and always a smile.”

Meanwhile, the WSOP itself said in a statement that he was a “worthy champion” who helped put the ‘World’ in World Series of Poker.

Furlong was introduced to poker by chance while walking his dogs. In a story told by Irish poker legend Padraig Parkinson, Furlong bumped into a fellow poker player while out one night who encouraged him to come and battle against some “top Americans” who were in town to play poker.

Those “top Americans” were Doyle Brunson, Chip Reese, Puggy Pearson and Stu Ungar — not bad company!

“So he brought his dogs home, came back,” said Parkinson. “And a couple of hours later he was playing heads up with Puggy Pearson and he’s winning $6,000. It was the funniest thing. So that was Noel hooked.”

By the time Furlong made it to the 1999 WSOP Main Event final table, he was joined by Parkinson and another Irishman in the shape of George McKeever. That year’s final table is often remembered as one of the toughest in WSOP Main Event history. From a field of 393, the final table featured eventual runner-up Alan Goehring, Poker Hall of Famer Erik Seidel and Huck Seed, who had won the tournament three years earlier.

Furlong had already made a name for himself in the poker world by winning the Irish Poker Open in 1987 and 1989, but this result was the largest of his poker career, coming out on top for the $1,000,000 payday.

Carpets and Racing

So where did the rest of the Irishman’s fortune come from? Almost two decades before his Main Event win, Furlong founded ‘Furlong Flooring‘ a leading manufacturer of carpets and other flooring products. The company flourished, mainly due to Furlong’s concentrated efforts in the late 1980s.

During this time, Furlong was also heavily involved in the horse racing industry as a racehorse trainer and gambler. His most famous bets came in 1991, when he won £2,500,000 in the space of a couple of months.

His first was a 33/1 (+3300) longshot in Ireland, before following that up with a £300,000 bet on his horse Destriero at odds of 6/1 (+600) to win the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.
