William Hill Named Official Sponsor of the Randox Grand National

BHA Hands Down 15-Year Ban to Danny Brock

William Hill, one of the oldest gambling companies in the United Kingdom, has signed a new agreement with the Randox Grand National Festival, a major annual horse race. As announced by the operator, it will serve as the festival’s official betting partner for the next three years.

In addition to becoming the official betting partner of the Randox Grand National, William Hill will also be designated as the sponsor of three ITV-televised races during the festival. These include the Grade 1 William Hill Aintree Hurdle on April 13, the William Hill Handicap Hurdle the following day and the Grade 3 William Hill Handicap Chase on the day after.

The Randox Grand National 2023 is a three-day race that will start on Thursday, April 13. This means that William Hill will have a presence during all days of the event. In addition, the leading British operator has already secured a presence at the Liverpool track and will have several on-course shops.

William Hill used the opportunity to announce that it is the first bookmaker to go Non Runner, Money Back on the 2023 Randox Grand National. This announcement follows the success of the similar products the operator offered during the Cheltenham Festival. The popularity of the offering saw bet365 launch its own NRNB bets.

Horse Racing Is in Hill’s DNA

Daryl West, William Hill’s head of sponsorship, socials and PR, commented on the agreement with the Randox Grand National, praising the festival as “one of the pinnacles of the national hunt calendar. West noted that his team is glad to be involved in the festival by serving as its official betting partner.

The sponsorship head added that horse racing is a vital part of William Hill’s essence, which is why the decision to support the festival was a no-brainer.

Horseracing is a vital part of our heritage, and it was an easy decision for us to support not just the biggest race in the sport but a huge event in the annual sporting calendar.

Daryl West. head of sponsorships, socials and PR, William Hill

Dickon White, Aintree & North West regional director at The Jockey Club, also commented on the agreement. He welcomed William Hill as a partner and praised the company for choosing to be involved with the event.

William Hill is synonymous with horse racing in this country so we are thrilled they are going to be involved with our flagship meeting at Aintree for the next three years.

Dickon White, Aintree & North West regional director, The Jockey Club

In other William Hill-related news, the company just signed the former Jump jockey and 2003 National winner Barry Geraghty as a horse racing ambassador.

Martirosian is the latest poker superstar to take down the Titans Event, with this weekend’s tournament awarding an $87,884 top prize.

A compact yet stellar field of 49 players descended on PokerStars for the February 19 edition of the $5,200 Titans Event. Only the top six finishers won a slice of the $250,000 prize pool, and it was Jonathan “Proudflop” Proudfoot that busted in seventh place, popping the money bubble and leaving the six surviving players in the money.

Rayan “Beriuzy” Chamas was the first player to collect some prize money. Chamas’ sixth-place finish came with $13,223. The final five became four with the untimely demise of Ramiro “ramastar88” Petrone, who helped himself to a $19,313 addition to his bankroll. The player count reduced further with David “MissOracle” Yan ($28,207) and Talal Shakerchi ($41,198) bowing out.

Martirosian and “Sintoras” fought it out heads-up for the title and the $87,884 top prize. Martirosian got the job done, leaving Sintoras to head into the night with a $60,172 consolation prize.

Jonathan Proudfoot
Jonathan Proudfoot finished second

The $1,050 Sunday High Roller was contested by 124 entrants who fought it out for the largest slice of the $124,000 prize pool. Such high buy-in tournaments attract the cream of the crop, and this event was no different.

Sweden’s “Hendurr” was the final table’s first casualty; his exit in ninth came with $3,122. Indonesia-based Australian Stevan “random_chu” Chew ($3,567) and Anatoly “NL_Proit” Filatov ($8,313 were the next players heading for the exits before Vojta “vojta555cz” Skalak bowed out in sixth for $9,004.

Next to bust was “A.Wesker999” ($5,041), who was joined in the role of a spectator first by “Sergey260594” ($7,468) and then by “_m0ney2_89” of Belarus ($16,022). Those eliminations left “977sanek977” heads-up against the bubble boy of the Titans Event, Jonathan “Proudflop” Proudfoot. Both players locked in $12,030 from the main prize pool, but the final bounty payment was larger than that payout. Eventually, 977sanek977 defeated Proudfoot heads-up and received a $15,890 bounty payment, taking their total score to $27,920.

The Star Gives a Sneak Peek into Its Sky Deck at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane

The Star Gives a Sneak Peek into Its Sky Deck at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane

Australian casino giant The Star Entertainment Group has teased fans, industry enthusiasts and competitors with a sneak peek into its Sky Deck at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane property. The company, which believes that the venue will soon become one of the most photographed spots in the city, shared a timelapse video of the development, alongside some first-look photos.

The Sky Deck will be a crescent-shaped rooftop, positioned a hundred meters above the Brisbane River. It will offer a spectacular vista of the locale, allowing the property to become a “major tourism drawcard.” The 250m long deck will be the centerpiece of the property and will sport a variety of bars and restaurants. A glass floor viewing platform will allow visitors to further enjoy the surrounding scenery.

The development of the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane entertainment and hospitality complex cost a whopping $3.6 billion ($2.5 billion USD) to build and is being delivered by Destination Brisbane Consortium. The latter entity comprised The Star Entertainment, Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium.

Queen’s Wharf Brisbane is notably the first local development to receive the 6-Star Green Star Communities Rating thanks to The Star’s dedication to environmental, economic and social sustainability.

Experts believe that the impressive property would attract as many as 1.4 million tourists a year.

The Star Is Proud of How the Property Is Turning Out

Robbie Cooke, the chief executive officer and managing director of The Star Entertainment Group, commented on the development of the flagship Sky Deck. He is certain that Queen’s Wharf Brisbane will become a major landmark in the city and that the Sky Deck will cement itself as a must-visit destination for tourists.

The Sky Deck will be a first for Brisbane. It will be open day and night, 365 days a year for up to 1,500 people as somewhere to celebrate a special event, to bring visiting friends and family or even as a meeting place for a drink after work.

Robbie Cooke, CEO & MD, The Star Entertainment Group

Cooke is very optimistic about the development and believes that the property will rival other iconic locations such as the Sydney Opera House.

Meanwhile, Simon Crooks, project director at the Destination Brisbane Consortium, elaborated on the engineering challenges regarding the construction. He explained that the Sky Deck’s bridge links, which will form its distinctive shape, weigh hundreds of tons and need to be safely secured into place.

The Star Entertainment Group is proud to be working on this project and is looking forward to delivering what will be a major landmark that would create thousands of jobs.

Wrongful Death Lawsuit: Lawyer Suffered Heart Attack as Las Vegas Casino Worker Continued to Deal Cards

Heart attack

The family of a Florida lawyer who had a heart attack while playing blackjack at a Las Vegas casino has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the property. David Jagolinzer stayed at the Wynn Las Vegas casino resort while visiting the Nevada gambling hub for a legal conference last spring.

Jagolinzer was slumped over the table for 15 minutes

He had a heart attack while playing cards at the casino on April 6. According to the legal filing, Jagolinzer was slumped over the table for 15 minutes as the blackjack dealer kept dealing out cards to one of the other players. Eventually, casino staff noticed the issue and attempted to use a defibrillator to revive the 48-year-old. The lawsuit alleges that the employees had no proper training for using such a device.

While Jagolinzer initially survived the heart attack, he passed away in October last year. The lawsuit, filed by the family last week, alleges that his ultimate death was linked to his Las Vegas cardiac arrest and that he might have survived had he received timely emergency treatment in April.

Wynn Resorts, the owner of the Wynn Las Vegas, is planning to fight the lawsuit. The operator asserts that the allegations are false.

Lawmakers in North Carolina Expected to File Mobile Betting Bill

Lawmakers in North Carolina Expected to File Mobile Betting Bill

After legalizing sports betting back in the summer of 2019, the state introduced the activity in March 2018. The legislation enabled tribal casino operators to offer the activity but restricted it to retail-only betting. As a result, the residents of North Carolina can visit Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River and Catawba Two Kings Casino if interested to place a sports bet. However, a new proposal is expected to change this and introduce statewide online betting, delivering a convenient method for sports fans to place wagers.

On Friday, just ahead of the weekend busy with sports events, the Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper, hinted that North Carolina may legalize online sports betting this year. Speaking with reporters ahead of the NHL’s Carolina Hunters game, he confirmed that lawmakers in the state are currently working on legislation that seeks to introduce online sports betting.

Gov. Cooper explained that it is important for the legislation to find the right balance and to be “fair to the taxpayers.” Still, he predicted that it is likely the legislation to reap success considering that it is “something that’s going on anyway.”

According to Gov. Cooper, legalizing sports wagering will deliver benefits for North Carolina’s schools. He outlined that the proposal is also likely to pass, given what he’s heard on the topic. However, the Governor ruled out the possibility to place bets saying: “I would be a poor sports wagerer because I would wager with my heart and not my mind.”

Sports Betting Continues to Spread around the US

If North Carolina legalizes mobile betting, it will further expand the potential of the activity itself. This, in turn, is expected to deliver benefits such as fresh tax revenue. At the same time, the legal offering of mobile sports betting will likely reduce the share of black market operators, as well as the number of customers that are visiting nearby states to place mobile sports wagers.

With its population of nearly 11 million people, North Carolina is currently within the top 10 states with the highest population. Considering the number of people and the growing popularity of sports betting, many residents will likely find the activity entertaining.

Focusing on the bigger picture, more US states are pushing forward with the legalization of sports betting. Data from the American Gaming Association as of January 31, 2023, reveals that eight states are in the process of legalizing the activity, while 34 states currently offer some form of sports betting.

Teun Mulder Eviscerates Final Table to Win EPT Paris €25,000 High Roller

Teun Mulder Eviscerates Final Table to Win EPT Paris €25,000 High Roller

Teun Mulder EPT Paris 2023

“That was insane.”

It certainly was. Teun Mulder wiped out the entire final table of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Paris €25,000 High Roller II, taking care of his final six opponents after the bubble burst in under half an hour to claim the €389,870 first prize.

It’s Mulder’s second career Spadie, following his win in an EPT Prague €25,000 High Roller in March of last year. But that win was nothing like this one.

€25,000 High Roller II Payouts

Place Player Country Prize (EUR)
1st Teun Mulder Netherlands €389,870
2nd Tauan Naves Brazil €257,900
3rd Seth Davies United States €173,950
4th Jakov Nesterov Russia €131,950
5th Niklas Astedt Sweden €101,950
6th Thomas Muehloecker Austria €80,950
7th Pedro Garagnani Brazil €62,950

Winner’s Reaction

When asked after his victory if he’d ever had a stretch where he’d run that hot, the champion replied, “No, probably not; that was insane. I got it in bad, and I won, and I got it in 50/50, and I also won.”

Mulder’s final victim of the night was Tauan Naves of Brazil, who managed to survive the rest of the final table carnage to take home €257,900 for his runner-up finish.

Once Mulder busted Joao Vieira in eighth place to burst the money bubble, he had double the chips of his next closest opponent, and it was all over from there. The €1,199,520 prize pool would be distributed in very short order.

Teun Mulder

What a Final Table Performance!

Once Niklas Astedt eliminated Orpen Kisacikoglu in 10th place to set up the final table of nine, the Teun Mulder show began.

He entered the final table second in chips behind Naves, but quickly grabbed the lead with his elimination of Juan Pardo in 9th place to set the stage for what was to come.

After what would be the final break of the night, Vieira and Pedro Garagnani each returned with under five big blinds, and as mentioned, it would be Vieira falling short of the money when his king-deuce couldn’t survive against Mulder’s eight-deuce.

Yup, that’s how it was going to be.

WATCH: Sam Grafton says “EPT Paris is LONG Overdue!”

Immediately after that, Garagnani (7th – €62,950) and Thomas Muehloecker (6th – €80,950) were both eliminated in the same hand when Garagnani got his microstack in with queen-deuce against Muehloecker’s pocket queens and Mulder’s pocket jacks.

Of course, a jack came on the flop, and the field was down to five.

Just a couple of minutes after that, Astedt smashed his ace-nine into Mulder’s pocket kings and the Dutchman had his next victim, sending Astedt home with the day’s first six-figure payday of €101,950.

Next to go was Jakov Nesterov (4th – €131,950) who got his ace-six in dominated versus Mulder’s ace-seven. There was no three-outer or a chop for Nesterov, and the tournament was down to three-handed.

Again, within a couple of hands, Mulder had another potential elimination on deck with Seth Davies (3rd – €173,950) holding queen-jack versus Mulder’s ten-eight. Without fail, an eight came for Mulder to set things up for his final victim, Naves.

As he had already been a couple of times at the final table, Mulder found himself dominated, with Naves holding ace-eight versus his ace-seven. Still, when a straight draw presented itself on the flop, it seemed a foregone conclusion that it would come in, and it did on the turn to complete Mulder’s incredible victory.

More from Mulder on Sunday?

The high rollers will now return on Sunday for the three-day €50,000 buy-in event, and Mulder says he’ll be in the mix looking to continue his incredible rungood from Saturday here at the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile. PokerNews will be there the whole way with continued coverage of that event and all the excitement from EPT Paris 2023.

Vegas Odds Survey Projects over $6B in Wagers on March Madness 2023

Vegas Odds looked at the reasons why Americans are following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men’s Basketball Tournament, why people are placing bets on the tournament, how they plan to do that, and the amounts they plan to spend.

The Majority of Americans Will Place Their March Madness Bets Online

The Vegas Odds survey found that over $6 billion are expected to be wagered on the tournament this year. The majority of Americans, about 62%, said they or someone they know will place a wager on March Madness 2023.

In terms of how people plan to place their wagers, the main part of respondents, over 52%, said they will place their bets online. 26% answered that they will do it through group brackets and 12% pointed to retail sportsbooks as their gambling choice.

The survey also found that 55% of respondents said they would have no interest in March Madness if it wasn’t for placing wagers on it. This underscores the significance of gambling in the popularity of the annual basketball tournament. This is further highlighted by the majority of bettors (62%) considering themselves to be casual bettors meaning they place bets only on major events.

The main reason for following March Madness, according to the survey, was being an active fan of a team (32%). The second major reason was gambling (29%). Other reasons included being an avid fan of college basketball in general (18%), and social/traditional reasons (21%).

The Majority of Bettors Plan to Place Bets under $50 on March Madness

Regarding the average size of wagers, 52% of respondents said they would place wagers up to $50, while 22% said they would wager between $50 and $250. 16% said they would place wagers between $250 and $500, and 8% said they would wager between $500 and $1,000. Only 2% of respondents stated that they would place wagers over $1,000.

When bettors were asked how they would spend their winnings, the majority of respondents (30%) said they would use their winnings on essential expenses and household bills, while 23% said they would put their winnings into savings. Only 15% said they would pay off debts, and 18% said they would use their winnings for non-essential spending.

Finally, when asked how winning money would impact their future gambling habits, the majority of respondents (52%) said there would be no notable impact, while 42% said they were likely to gamble more often.

Interestingly, when asked how their interest in March Madness would be affected if student-athletes were paid to play for their college, 66% of respondents said there would be no impact on their interest, while 22% said they would be more likely to watch and 12% said they would be less likely to watch.
