Three Operators Got Fined by the AGCO for Breaching the Law

agco

The Registrar of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) issued three operators with its Notices of Monetary Penalty. The penalty was issued because operators violated the Standards for Internet gaming related to game integrity. AGCO wanted to protect the gamblers and gamers in the province, and that led to the actions against three famous operators.

Three operators violated the Standards:

Bunchberry Limited, Mobile Incorporated Limited, and LeoVegas Gaming PLC offered to the audience from Ontario the games that AGCO and Independent Testing Laboratory (ITL) haven’t approved, which violated Standards 4.08 and 4.09

Mobile Incorporated Limited also offered products that were developed by two suppliers which weren’t registered in AGCO’s base, which violated Standard 1.22. The company has to pay a fine of $30,000 because of these violations. The company is about to pay the biggest fine among all three operators included in AGCO’s recent actions.

LeoVegas provided its Ontario customers with uncertified games, which weren’t in accordance with AGCO Board Guidelines and violated Standards 4.08 and 4.09. AGCO issued a fine of $25,000, which the company has to pay because of its actions.

Bunchberry Limited also committed the same infractions, violating Standards 4.08 and 4.09. They also violated the Board Guidelines, and the Order of Monetary Penalty says the company has to pay a fine of $15,000 for these violations.

The protection of the citizens:

AGCO established the Standards to protect the citizens of Ontario and minimize the harm that can be caused to gamblers. AGCO’s main mission is to establish requirements that are clear and precise and to track and prohibit all unauthorized processes, including games that aren’t certified by AGCO.

Punished operators have a right to appeal to the Licence Appeal Tribunal (LAT), an independent body that is a part of the Tribunals Ontario.

Tom Mungham, Chief Executive Officer and Registrar at AGCO, commented on this decision: “The AGCO holds all registered operators to high standards of responsible gambling, player protection, and game integrity and monitors their activities in the interest of Ontarians. A critical feature of our regulatory framework requires operators to only offer games that are from registered gaming suppliers and have been certified by an AGCO-registered independent testing laboratory to meet the highest standards of game integrity. Ontarians who choose to play on registered sites need the assurance that the games being provided meet these requirements.”

Court Sentences Macau Junket Duke Levo Chan to 14 Years in Prison

Macau at dusk

When Macau authorities arrested Alvin Chau in November 2021, it left chairman of the Tak Chun Group Levo Chan Weng-Lian as the China Special Administrative Region (SAR)’s most powerful junket boss until his arrest late last year.

Now, however, Chan will spend the next 14 years in prison, after the Court of First Instance sentenced him Friday. In January, the courts convicted Chau of over 100 charges and handed him an 18-year jail term.

Chan’s lesser jail term reflects his 34 convictions, which included money laundering, fraud, criminal association, and masterminding an unlawful multi-billion-dollar gambling ring.

involved in illegal activities totalling S$6bn (US$4.5bn)

According to the Hong Kong Standard, Chan, who is married to Taiwanese actress Ady An, was involved in illegal activities totaling S$6bn (US$4.5bn) of which Chan pocketed around S$267m (US$200m).

With China’s anti-corruption sweep showing no sign of letting up, the Macau government also recently published new regulations for the gambling industry. What may concern the likes of Wynn Macau and Sands China is that the renewed concessions are subject to increased government supervision.

Players can register at a time of their convenience or receive extra help immediately via the 24/7 British Colombia Gambling Support Line at 1-888-795-6111. Keep reading because we have more interesting information on the program.

Which Casinos Apply Game Break?

The self-exclusion program is custom-tailored for the needs of every individual player. A lengthy list of self-exclusion casinos in BC, Canada, already apply the improved system. You can find equally worthy alternatives at each online casino for British Columbia players. Overall, a player can choose to self-exclude from the following options:

  • 🛑 Full Exclusion from all land-based and online gambling facilities
  • 🛑 Exclusion from bingo halls and gaming centres
  • 🛑 Exclusion from PlayNow.com

The First Nation casinos in Canada also apply the BCLC self-exclusion practices. Furthermore, players who intend to defeat the nasty addiction don’t attempt to make a difference between gambling locations inside and outside the reservation or tribal land. The path to enjoying the game is easy when you follow the steps.

How to Cancel a Self-Exclusion?

Since this is a voluntary self-exclusion scheme, it can be cancelled anytime. Check out the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) overview, and you will see that all rules are in the player’s favour. The Game Break’s active reinstatement process requires passing a test. After that, anyone who chooses to gamble can receive more support whenever they decide.

Is Responsible Gambling Easier After Game Break?

According to the British Columbia gambling laws, every licensed casino must support responsible gambling. The BC gambling self-exclusion in Canada is one of the easiest-to-enter programs and aims to return the pleasure of playing without the danger of addiction.

After the end of the program, players already know their boundaries, triggers, and breaking points. They can lean on this knowledge to control and correct their future gaming behaviour on time. All participants are encouraged to enrol in Game Break if they feel like losing control and gambling becomes a problem instead of fun activity.

How Game Break Works?

The BCLC voluntary self-exclusion program takes a lot of information from the gambling statistics in Canada to improve the safety and self-help measures. To succeed, the volunteers must enrol in the program and follow the self-exclusion rules. Here is how the Game Break works:

  • 📢 Sharing Information to the gambling establishments, including photos and personal details of the self-excluded individuals.
  • 😎 Access to Casinos: the security will prevent gamblers from entering land-based gambling locations.
  • 🎰 Gaming Accounts: player’s PlayNow account is immediately closed by BCLC
  • 🔐 Membership Exclusions: memberships like Encore Rewards are terminated. Depending on the facility’s rules, the piled-up points may be cashable or redeemable.
  • 🎈 Advertisements & Marketing: individuals no longer receive marketing materials from operators and gambling locations.
  • 🤝 Gambling Support Professionals create and improve the BC gambling self exclusion. Many experts are ready to speak with the gambler free of charge and provide the necessary support.
  • 🎊 Jackpot Wins can’t be collected by Game Break enrollees. It is best to avoid even the lottery tickets while on the program.
  • Removing the Stigma: once players realise that wagering games are just occasional fun and teasing of the gods of luck, they will have full control over their actions.

The self-exclusion program can be used by every player and for any reason, so there is no need to wait until gambling goes beyond control. Many players even set some of the exclusion features as a time-saving measurement. We already mentioned that the program is constantly being improved, considering the latest data from research on gamblers’ behaviour. This means that we can expect even more upgrades soon.

Game Break Partners

Partners Handshake

The BCLC voluntary self-exclusion program is gaining popularity and partners with every expansion. A great expansion is the BCLC launch of PlayNow.com in Saskatchewan that allows even more gamblers to moderate their wagering activities. Game Break improves players’ health, and that cause draws incredible support from government and private establishments.

Some main supporters are the Game Break participants, who successfully focused on all aspects of life and transformed gambling into a moderated fun activity. They participate in further studies and evaluations to help improve the BCLC self-exclusion program.

There are many excellent articles about BCLC’s update of its self-exclusion program, and they all point to more partners of the program than we can imagine. Another splendid example is the Everi Holdings’ anti-money laundering software used in BCLC’s lottery, bingo, casino, and other online gaming activities.

Celebrities React to Twitter Removing the Blue Checkmark From Non-Twitter Blue Subscribers

Twitter checkmark on a phone with a "buy" button underneath

A new era on Twitter

Twitter removed the iconic blue checkmark from legacy verified accounts that were not subscribed to Twitter Blue Thursday.

The Twitter account “Twitter Verified” confirmed the news Wednesday afternoon. The entire process has been a long time coming and prompted jokes from certain accounts and fear from others.

Amid the chaos of the “reset” of the legacy accounts that is leaving Twitter users unable to tell if they are looking at a verified source or an impostor, there were some tremendous reactions. There’s something poetic about finding beauty in madness, even if that madness is the removal of a small tick on an app owned by a Dogecoin-obsessed creator.

Responses to the change

Many of Twitter’s users were against the removal of the blue checkmark from legacy accounts because of the uncertainty it causes. Now, users can no longer tell if they are looking at a reputable source when scrolling their timelines.

There is also worry that the new checkmark-less (for non-Twttier blue subscribers) world can work with the rise of AI to create further confusion. Deepfakes and other tools have been able to produce audio and video of people acting out pre-written scripts and look like actual footage of their real-life model.

work with the rise of AI to create further confusion

One of the world’s biggest celebrities, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, said last month that he would not be subscribing to Twitter Blue to keep his verification (and misquoted the price, which is actually $8/month). So when LeBron’s account still had a checkmark next to it after the purge, many people were confused—and quite amused.

In a strange turn, Elon Musk, Twitter’s owner and CEO, soon confirmed that he was personally paying for the blue verification on celebrity accounts like LeBron, Stephen King, and others.

Musk’s “philanthropy” did not reach every celebrity, unfortunately, and some such as movie star Halle Berry were left reminiscing on the days when their accounts were graced by that cluster of blue pixels next to their name.

Rapper The Game also lost his checkmark, but not his craftsmanship with words and dropped a simple response to the change.

“Check gone but the checks still comin,” he said.

The future of the Twitter checkmark

Twitter had roughly 450 million active users in 2022, close to 400 million more than it had in 2010. It has become a melting pot for hot topics, social movements, news, sports, politics, opinions, music, and every other topic of conversation.

does not mean that there aren’t other distinctions

The removal of the checkmark from legacy accounts cements the fracture between the old regime (led by co-founder and ex-CEO Jack Dorsey) and the new. But just because the blue checkmark is available to anyone willing to pay $8 per month does not mean that there aren’t other distinctions.

A gold checkmark, for example, next to a square avatar (profile picture) means that the page belongs to a business verified by Twitter Verified Organizations. Nike, Apple, and Amazon are all examples of accounts that are distinguished with a gold checkmark.

A gray checkmark means that the account belongs to a government multilateral organization or person. The White House and President Joe Biden are both graced by a gray checkmark on their pages.

There are also affiliation badges that can be attached to an account. These accounts have a small image of their affiliation on their page and can also have one of the three colors of checkmarks. Musk says these badges are to help reduce impersonation (an example of an affiliation badge is below).

Twitter is also testing automated account labels to help users identify if an account is run by a real person or a “bot.” These labels appear on account pages under profile names and avatars.

Blackjack and Numbers – Gambling With An Edge

Blackjack and Numbers - Gambling With An Edge

This post is syndicated by the Las Vegas Advisor for the 888 casino group. Anthony Curtis comments on the 888 article introduced and linked to on this page

AC says: Experienced blackjack players might get the initial impression that this article is too rudimentary to bother reading. Resist that urge. While it addresses aspects of the game that you may already know about, John Grochowski clarifies things in an interesting way using the “numbers” theme. I’ve never seen the 34/55 discussion before, but it helps sum up what you’re looking at in a basic strategy chart and, as a bonus, touches on the little-discussed topic of composition-dependent basic strategy, which is something many won’t have already known about.

This article was written by John Grochowski in association with 888Casino.

Blackjack and Numbers

Blackjack is a game of numbers.

Regardless of whether you play live or online casinos, you have numbers for card values: 1 or 11 for an Ace, 10 for 10s and face cards, and face values such as 2 for 2s, 3 for 3s and so on for the rest.

Those lead to hand totals. A 9, a 3 and a 5 total 17. A Queen and a Jack total 20.

Twenty-one is an important number. If your total exceeds 21, you lose. If it’s 21 or less, you win if your total is higher than the dealer’s.

Another important number is 17. Dealers must hit a total of less than 17 and must stand on any total greater than 17. Seventeen itself is murky territory. Dealers always must stand on hard 17, but some casinos require dealers to hit soft 17.
