Super Group Expands Global Presence in the US by Acquiring DGC

Super Group Expands Global Presence in the US by Acquiring DGC

The NYSE-listed international digital gaming company that offers first-class entertainment confirmed the acquisition of the online gambling and sports betting company that offers market access in a dozen US states, including eight live markets.

The new deal will allow Betway’s and Spin’s parent company to further expand its global presence in the US by entering these markets and continuing its profitable growth in the region.

Super Growth, “Well-Positioned to Enter the US market”

Super Group’s chief executive officer Neal Menashe expressed excitement for being able to officially usher DGC into the group while looking forward to starting working “more closely” with them in their endeavor to apply their already proven toolkit to the US market.

Menashe also spoke about the group’s “healthy balance sheet” and “consistent track record of driving profitable growth”, both of which recommended Super Group as a good candidate for penetrating the American market.

At the moment, DGC is live in Arizona, Iowa, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Colorado, Indiana, and Ohio. All of these states are already making use of the Betway brand exclusively licensed from Super Group. In Q1, DGC plans to also go live in Louisiana and this way become the fourth state to benefit from the Betway Global technology platform, alongside Ohio, Virginia, and Arizona.

Ohio, the Freshest US State to Host the Betway Brand via DGC

Last Sunday, DGC launched the Betway brand in the Buckeye State via a partnership agreement signed with Belterra Park owned by Boyd Gaming. This prompted Ohio to turn into the freshest US state to give the green light to the regulated market for sports betting.

DGC’s executive vice president Bruce Watemeyer expressed their thrill to be going live “in the great state of Ohio” and also to be able to get access to sports aficionados across the state. He also called the decision “an important step” for the company busy expanding its “best-in-class offerings”.

The company that calls itself “the home of premium online gaming solutions” has been busy investing in Ohio through its partnership with the Cleveland Cavaliers that began in February 2021. Now, DGC is eager to finally welcome sports fans from Ohio to the Betway experience. Super Group has several licenses in various global jurisdictions and it is a premier name in important markets in Europe, Africa, and the Americas.

The group’s online gambling and sports betting options are backed up by top-tier technology, which allows its quick and effective entry into new markets worldwide. The group’s customer experience is a fully customizable one thanks to the proprietary data analytics and marketing engine. In November, the group announced its third-quarter results for 2022 were in line with its full-year guidance.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Las Vegas Raiders Week 18 Odds, Time, and Prediction

Kansas City Chiefs vs Las Vegas Raiders Week 18 Odds, Time, and Prediction

The Kansas City Chiefs have secured their place in the playoffs, but it’s still not certain whether they’ll finish no. 1 in the AFC and get a first-round bye. Likely for them, their destiny is in their hands – they just need to beat the unmotivated Las Vegas Raiders in Week 18.

When, Where, and How to Watch?

  • Place: Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada
  • Date: Saturday, January 7, 2023
  • Time: 4:30 PM ET
  • How to Watch: ABC

Kansas City Chiefs to Secure the AFC No. 1 Spot

The Chiefs are 13-3 this season, which is one win more than the Buffalo Bills and two more than the Cincinnati Bengals, both of which have played a game fewer than the Chiefs. They were supposed to play one another, but the Bills vs Bengals game was abandoned after Buffalo’s Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field.

What this means is that if the Chiefs don’t beat the Raiders on Saturday, there will be a possibility that they might drop out from the top spot. Still, the chances that the Chiefs don’t win look very slim. First of all, they’re in much better shape than the Raiders with four straight wins.

Further, the Chiefs seem to love playing against the Raiders. They are 9-1 against this opponent in the last 10 meetings. The Chiefs’ most recent trip to Allegiant Stadium saw them blow out the opponents 41-14.

Las Vegas Raiders’ Season Is Over

The Raiders are 6-10 right now, meaning that the season is over for them. Whatever happens in Week 18, they will not make the playoffs. They did have a good chance to get there but they lost three games in the previous four gameweeks.

And all of those losses were painful for their fans. For instance, they lost by just one point to the Los Angeles Rams. They also lost by just three points to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Finally, in their first game of 2023, the Raiders lost to the San Francisco 49ers by three points in overtime.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Las Vegas Raiders Prediction

The Raiders probably aren’t in a great mood now that it’s clear that they’ve gambled away their chances of making the playoffs. It’s just the opposite when it comes to the Chiefs. They’re in a great mood and are coming to Vegas to get a big win.

Picks: Kansas City Chiefs to win and cover the spread

Arsenal Odds to Win Premier League Continue to Shorten as Lead Grows

Arsenal badge

Arsenal leads EPL odds

With every passing week, Arsenal Football Club’s chances of winning the English Premier League continue to rise. That comes despite a youthful squad, lack of big-money player transfers, and years of subordination to other top sides.

seven points clear of second place

The Gunners are now +130 to win the league with DraftKings after opening the season at +2200. Despite now being seven points behind Arsenal in the league, reigning champion Manchester City is still favorite to win the league at odds of -130.

No team has ever had a seven-point lead on New Year’s Day and not gone on to win the league. Granted, this season is a little different because of the November FIFA World Cup, but Arsenal is still well on its way to winning its first league title since the 2003/04 season. The team is 17 points ahead of where it was this time last season.

The current Premier League table reads: Arsenal 43 points, Man City 36 points, Newcastle United 34 points, Manchester United 32 points. City and Newcastle dropped points by settling for draws over the weekend, allowing Arsenal to move into its commanding lead.

Raising the standard

Arsenal had shown glimpses of brilliance in seasons past but was never able to sustain top-level play. Criticism fell on their lack of squad depth along with the absence of a prolific goal-scorer and a suitable manager who could help the team recreate its early 2000s glory under coach Arsene Wenger.

the ex-player has taken the brunt of the criticism

Many have attributed the team’s turnaround to the decision to back current manager Mikel Arteta. Since joining as head coach in 2019, the ex-player has taken the brunt of the criticism when things have not gone well for the club. Sportsbooks had him at odds of +1400 to get the sack at the beginning of the 2022/23 season.

At +1400, Arteta had shorter odds for a sacking than former Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard. Gerrard lost his job in October after a terrible run of form at the end of his 11 months in charge.

The decision to retain the Spaniard is now paying off in spades. Through “Arteta ball,” the once-lethargic, defensive structure has been replaced with a free-flowing and intricate system. The boss has also led the development of key players in Arsenal’s starting lineup, including captain Martin Ødegaard and academy product Bukayo Saka.

Defying expectation

It comes to the shock of many that Man City is not leading the league. The champs are favored to win the title nearly every year and manager Pep Guardiola is regarded by many as the best in the world. Recent addition Erling Haaland is also on a record-setting goal-scoring pace with 21 league goals to his name already.

Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea finished in the top four last season but now sit fifth, sixth and eighth respectively. None currently appear to have the internal stability or cutting-edge to challenge the Gunners for the title.

Arsenal will be back up to bat Tuesday when it hosts current third-place challenger, Newcastle.

Ohio Regulator Claims DraftKings Breached Advertising Rules

Ohio Regulator Claims DraftKings Breached Advertising Rules

On Friday, the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC), the regulatory body in charge of gambling activities in the state, announced that it plans to take administrative action against DraftKings.

DraftKings May Be Subject to a $350K Fine

The regulator claimed that the sports betting operator breached the state’s sports gaming advertising rules. A statement released by the OCCC alleged that DraftKings completed an advertising campaign back in November. During the campaign, the regulator claimed that the operator sent advertising materials to approximately 2,500 recipients under the age of 21. The gambling watchdog reiterated that under the current regulations, it is prohibited for sports betting operators to target or advertise to individuals under 21.

The OCCC urged DraftKings to establish procedures that ensure no advertising content is distributed to individuals with age that is not verified. Besides those new procedures, the regulator did not rule out the possibility of imposing a $350,000 fine against the operator. As with any allegation for breaches, the operator is given the right to a hearing. What’s more, the Ohio gambling regulator said that it will determine what action to take against DraftKings following a public meeting. If indeed the OCCC imposes a fine, the funds would then be redirected to the state’s Sports Gaming Revenue Fund.

The Gambling Watchdog Is Disappointed to See Breaches

Matthew Schuler, the OCCC’s executive director, commented in a statement outlining that the Commission has established clear rules about the advertising of sports gaming. At the same time, he said that the OCCC is disappointed to see breaches of the rules. “While we do not take administrative action lightly, DraftKings’ conduct in this case warrants the Commission’s intervention to ensure the integrity of sports gaming,” said Schuler in conclusion.

The Commission has been very clear about the rules and standards for sports gaming advertising with the industry and are disappointed with the lack of compliance we have seen despite the reminders.

Matthew Schuler, executive director at the Ohio Casino Control Commission

DraftKings was among the major players in the industry that launched their services in Ohio on Sunday, which marked the start of the regulated sports betting market in the state. In addition to DraftKings, other operators such as FanDuel, Caesars and BetMGM, among other major players have also introduced their services in Ohio.

Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi Enters 2023 in Style; Banks a $100K Score

Talal "raidalot" Shakerchi Enters 2023 in Style; Banks a $100K Score

British star Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi kicked off 2023 in style by taking down the $2,023 NLHE 8-Max New Year Special event at PokerStars. The tournament, one of three New Year Specials held at PokerStars on January 1, 2023, was ridiculously stacked, as you would expect from such a high-stakes affair. Any of the entrants would have made a worthy champion, but Shakerchi got the job done and his hands on $100,029.

$2,023 NLHE New Year Special Final Table Results

Place Player Country Prize

6 Julian “jutrack” Track Germany $23,614
7 Forest_PL Poland $17,692
8 Benjamin “Spraggy” Spragg United Kingdom $13,255
9 Benjamin “BC1989RF” Chalot Hungary $10,976

Some 272 players bought in for $2,023, an unusual buy-in designed to celebrate the start of the new year. Those entrants created a $524,054 prize pool, obliterating the $400,000 guarantee.

“Wildace_hun” was the unfortunate soul that popped the money bubble, crashing out in 35th place despite firing four bullets. An expensive day at the virtual felt for the Hungarian. Seasoned professionals, including Jans “Graftekkel” Arends, Bruno “great dant” Volkmann, Ramiro “ramastar88” Petrone, and final table bubble boy Alexandros “Pwndidi” Theologis, all cashed and saw a return on their investments.

Benjamin Spragg
Benjamin Spragg finished eighth after winning a $109 satellite

Everyone at the nine-handed final table locked in at least $10,976 for their efforts. Benjamin “BF1989RF” Chalot received this sum. Chalot, a former PartyPoker MILLIONS Online champion, bowed out in ninth place. Team PokerStars’ Benjamin “Spraggy” Spragg busted in eighth for $13,255, a superb result considering he won his seat in a $109 buy-in satellite.

The final seven became six with the elimination of Poland’s “Forest_PL” before the 2013 EPT Prague Main Event champion Julian “jutrack” Track joined the list of busted stars, leaving only five players in contention for the six-figure top prize.

Three Austrians found themselves in the final five, but two crashed out in quick succession. “tzuzteutezu” saw their tournament end abruptly in fifth place, with Christian “WATnlos” Rudolph running out of steam in fourth. Rudolph walked away with $42,068 for his efforts.

Heads-up was set when Bulgarian grinder “gettingpwned” found himself void of chips. Shakerchi fought with “Ac-King00” of Austria for the title and the lion’s share of the prize pool. Shakerchi left his final opponent in his wake and received $100,029 for an impressive victory, resigning the runner-up to a still-welcomed $74,944 consolation prize.

A Staggering $40 Million Guaranteed in the PokerStars New Year Series

“Scoops 2022” Scoops Huge New Year Score

The $202.30 buy-in edition of the New year Special drew in a bumper crowd of 5,362 entrants, who ensured the $1 million guarantee was surpassed. Those entrants locked horns and butted heads for a share of $1,009,074.

The prize pool was so large that two entrants got their hands on prizes worth more than $100,000. Indeed, the heads-up duo of “Scoops 2022” and “Eset93” were the recipients of those substantial prizes.

Surprisingly, there was no deal struck when the tournament reached the heads—up stages, despite a nearly $41,000 difference in the payouts. The lack of any agreement meant Kazakhstan’s Eset93 banked $102,272 for their second-place finish, while Switzerland’s Scoops 2022 reeled in a mammoth-sized score worth $143,479.

Andreas Christoforou Among the Big Christmas Day Winners at PokerStars

Low-Stakes New Year Special Ends in Four-Way Deal

The $20.23 buy-in version of the New Year Special, part of the New Year Series at PokerStars, narrowly missed its $400,000 guaranteed, but it came super close thanks to 21,602 players entering the tournament. Unlike the other New Year Special events, this one ended in a deal, and nobody could blame the quartet of stars for choosing to do so.

None of the final four had re-entered more than once, so they had only invested $40.46. However, although they were in for a small amount, the least any of the final four took home was $23,517, with the champion, “oskarbilstad” of Norway, collecting $33,073 for an incredible return on investment, and a superb start to poker life in 2023.

Blackjack Insurance: Always a Bad Bet

Chips on blackjack table taking out insurance

The term “Insurance” is used to define a form of protection from financial loss. It is a very safe thing to do. You can insure your house, car, and belongings against accidental damage. This makes it all the more strange when you hear the term associated with the turbulent game of blackjack.

When playing blackjack, insurance can only be taken in certain circumstances. However, it does what it says, giving you a chance to break even on certain dealer hands. Below, we discuss blackjack insurance and why it is always a bad bet.

What is Blackjack Insurance?

Insurance is a slightly misleading term for this option in blackjack, as it is essentially a side bet. Once the cards have been dealt, if the dealer’s up card is an ace all the players will be offered the chance to take ‘insurance.’ The bet is made just before the dealer checks the hole card.

This is a bet made against the probability that the dealer will get a 10-value card to accompany their ace, creating blackjack. If they do, then the players will get a payout that sees them break even. To do this, the cost of a bet is usually half the amount of the player’s main wager and pays out at 2/1.

While there are some detractors from the insurance side bet, it does offer some advantages. Players can break even, even if they lose the main bet.

Blackjack Insurance Winning Examples

You place a bet of $20.

Your hand is a nine and a queen. This gives you a value of 19.

The dealer has a face card which is an ace. You are offered the insurance bet.

The insurance bet is taken. It costs half your initial bet, which is $10.

The dealer turns their card over to reveal a card with a value of 10. Giving them a combined total of 21 they now have blackjack.

As a result, you win the insurance bet. This pays out at 2/1 so you manage to break even.

Blackjack Insurance Losing Examples

You make a bet of $20.

The dealer gives out the cards. You have a 7 and a queen. This gives you a hand of 17.

The dealer’s up card is an ace. You are offered the insurance bet and take it.

The insurance bet is half of your initial bet, so you put down $10.

The dealer reveals a 5. As they don’t have blackjack, you have lost the $10 insurance bet, but keep your $20 original bet.

The game then continues to see if the dealer can beat your total of 17.

Blackjack Insurance Odds

The odds of blackjack insurance are determined by several factors. The most obvious is how many decks are in the shoe. Knowing how many 10-value cards have already been dealt can also change the odds.

However, blackjack insurance states that the dealer’s other card has around a one in three chance of being a value of ten. This can sound quite appealing. Despite this, when playing, over time blackjack insurance does not offer favourable odds. Chances are if the dealer does have blackjack, you are more than likely to lose the main bet. Insurance will only see you break even, not make a profit.

Is Blackjack Insurance a Good Idea?

Most experts will advise against blackjack insurance. It should only really be used by seasoned professionals. Even then, it still does not offer good enough odds to payout ratios.

For example, imagine you play against a dealer in a one-deck game. You do not have any 10-value cards in your initial hand. This is the best-case scenario as now, 16 of the cards remaining have a value of 10. This means your insurance has the best possible chance of coming up.

Long term though, this is not great. Assuming all your blackjack insurance bets have this most likely outcome (it is very unlikely they will) then you would still encounter a loss. If you play 49 times, the bet has an average of 16 wins and 33 losses. If you bet $10 each time, making $20 back, this would bag you $320. However, bet this with the losses and you come out $10 short. Add to this that most games do not have a one-deck shoe and that other players may have 10 value cards and predicting the probability becomes a tough one anyway.

Chelsea vs Manchester City Premier League Odds, Time, and Prediction

Chelsea vs Manchester City Premier League Odds, Time, and Prediction

Chelsea’s first home game of 2023 is against the reigning champion of the Premier League. Manchester City are coming to Stamford Bridge determined to win all three points, which they need in order to stay in the title race with Arsenal.

Chelsea vs Manchester City Odds

Under 2.5 +110

When, Where, and How to Watch?

  • How to Watch: Peacock

Chelsea Need to Start Playing Better Soccer

Chelsea are sitting in the no.9 position, but their ambitions are much higher than that. The Blues want to finish the season in the top portion of the Premier League table, but for that, they need to start playing much better soccer.

They’re 1-1-0 since the end of the World Cup, which may not seem too bad. However, they had a relatively easy job in those two games. First, they played against Bournemouth and won 2-0. Then, they drew with Nottingham Forest in their first game of 2023.

To be fair to Chelsea, they were much, much worse before the World Cup break – that’s when they lost three straight league games.

Luckily for the Blues, they do have a fantastic roster with some amazing players in all positions. The problem is that the same goes for many other Premier League teams in 2023. One of those is Manchester City, the reigning champion.

A Must-Win Game for Manchester City

On the last day of 2022, Manchester City drew 1-1 with Everton at Etihad Stadium despite being a -714 favorite in the eyes of the bookies. The failure didn’t cost them the no.2 position in the Premier League, but it did increase the gap between them and Arsenal. Right now, the Gunners – who are sitting top of the table – have seven points more than the reigning champs.

Nevertheless, the season is long, and they still have a good chance to get to the summit of the EPL table. In fact, the season isn’t even at its halfway point. That’s good news for the Citizens, who still remain the no.1 favorite to win the title, priced at -139.

Chelsea vs Manchester City Prediction

The rematch of the 2021 Champions League Final is bound to be a real thriller. Both teams are in need of points, so you can be sure both will give their utmost on the pitch of Stamford Bridge. Still, we think the player quality is on the side of Manchester City. The Sky Blues are coming to London to grab all three points and we think they will do it.

Picks: Manchester City to win & over 2.5 goals

Takeout Rates In Horse Racing – Why Bettors Need To Know About Them

Why Horse Bettors Need To Know About Takeout Rates

If you bet on horse racing, there may be one essential thing you are overlooking in your betting strategy – takeout rates.

Many bettors don’t know what takeout rates are or how they affect winnings, so we’ve put this guide together that explains everything you need to know.

What Are Takeout Rates?

In short, takeout rates are pre-payout taxes applied by a horse racing track on every bet made at a race meeting.

For example, if you make a $100 bet on a horse to win a race at odds of +1,000, and the horse wins, your profit before the takeout rate is applied would be $1,000.

But, before you decide how you’re going to spend your $1,000 profit, you have to factor in the cut the track will take.

For our example, let’s say the track has a 10% takeout rate on single bets; in this case, your winnings would be $900.

Racetracks have to apply takeout rates to survive. It’s an essential part of the sport.

Owners, trainers, and jockeys take their wages via takeout rates, and the tracks fund maintenance and upkeep of their grounds with their percentage.

However, this doesn’t make it any less impactful on your bottom line.

Additionally, the 10% we used in the example above would be on the extreme low end of the rates and some tracks can charge as much as 25%, depending on the type of bet.

How Do Takeout Rates Affect Payouts?

Image: Phil Murphy/Flickr

Takeout rates affect payouts in a pretty severe way, especially if the track can take as much as a quarter of your winnings.

If you’re working with a specific betting strategy and on a set budget (which you should), it’s important to factor this in.

If you don’t know the takeout rate at a particular track, it’s essential to try and find out. Good luck, though – often, tracks try to keep this information as quiet as possible to avoid turning bettors off.

It definitely won’t be advertised at the cashier’s desk when you go to make a bet. The best way to find takeout rates is to do your own research. Often, the information is available online with a bit of digging.

Takeout rates also vary depending on the type of bet you’re making.

For example, a single bet (straight bet) on a horse to win will have a different rate to a pick 4 (exotic bet) where you have to combine four winning bets into one.

In general, the bigger the odds of the bet, the higher the takeout rate will be.

There are some exceptions, though.

Some tracks encourage bettors to combine multiple bets, offering discounted takeout rates for pick 5 or 6s, making their potential payouts much larger, but of course, there is much less chance of them landing.

An example would be when in 2017, Kentucky Downs racetrack in Franklin, Kentucky, applied a rate of 16% on bets to win, place, or show (all single bets).

But for Pick 4 and Pick 5 bets, the track only had a takeout rate of 14%, giving a small but welcome bonus for successful bettors.

Takeout Rates Compared State By State

Takeout rates are generally set at state level and are consistent for each racetrack within a particular state.

Also, note that some states have different rates depending on whether the race involves Thoroughbred horses.

Arizona

  • 16.43% for win-place-show wagers and 24.18% for exotics at Harness meets.
  • 16.77% for win-place-show and 21.52% for exotics at Fair meetings.

Colorado

  • 18.5% on straight wagers, and 28% on exotics.

Delaware

  • 17% on straight wagers with an additional 2% on daily doubles and exactas, plus 8% on other exotic wagers for Thoroughbreds.
  • 18% on straight wagers, 20% on multiple wagers on an 8-horse field, and 25% on multiple wagers on a 9-horse field for Harness.

Florida

  • Set by individual tracks.

Idaho

  • 23% on straight wagers, 23.75% on exotics.

Illinois

Wynn Macau Employees to Benefit from Special Allowance

Wynn Macau Employees to Benefit from Special Allowance

A statement released by the company reveals that the special allowance will be paid to 98% of its current workforce which is 11,600 employees.

Wynn Palace and Wynn Macau Employees to Receive Special Allowance on January 16

Wynn Macau explained that the special allowance will be “equivalent to one month’s gross salary.” The payment itself is expected to be completed on January 16, 2023. According to the company, 98% of its eligible members that are part of Wynn Palace and Wynn Macau will be receiving the special allowance.

Following the recent award of gaming licenses and the removal of pandemic travel restrictions, we are optimistic about our prospects in 2023.

Linda Chen, vice-chairman of Wynn Macau

Linda Chen, Wynn Macau’s vice-chairman, acknowledged that the company was recently awarded gaming licenses in the country. Moreover, she explained that the lifting of COVID-related travel restrictions makes Wynn Macau feel optimistic about 2023. Chen added that Wynn Macau plans to attract new guests by bringing in new non-gaming attractions. At the same time, she pointed out that the company’s workforce will play an important part in the process.

We will commence significant efforts to implement non-gaming attractions and introduce visitors from new markets,

added Chen

The company pointed out that its employees have shown an “exceptional level of loyalty, commitment and discipline.” Moreover, Wynn Macau pointed out that offering unique experiences while at the same time ensuring the safety and health of its guests and colleagues was a prime objective, especially during the pandemic.

The Company Completed Senior-Level Changes

The news about the special allowance coincided with another announcement by Wynn Macau. On Friday, the company revealed it named Ellen Whittemore as a non-executive director. A filing with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange pointed out that Whittemore’s appointment is effective from January 1, 2023, and that Matthew Maddox stepped down from the position of non-executive director of Wynn Macau as of December 31, 2022.

But Wynn Macau isn’t the only company that announced a special allowance. Industry giant Sands China recently revealed its plans to hand out discretionary allowance to 99% of its employees. The extra salary is expected to affect some 23,000 eligible full-time members of the company and the payment itself is planned for January 18, 2023.
