Premium Blackjack

One of the first strategies is the ability to not worry about hitting 21 directly. Aiming for a score of between 17 and 20; and stand, this can sometimes be more advantageous rather than being competitive for the aim of 21.

Being able to put pressure on the dealer is important, this is the strategy to do this, additionally, this leaves you with a decent chance of winning the specific hand.

Throughout the game, there are too many players which are trying to get caught up in trying to hit 21 and forget that they don’t always have to get a high score to win.

Or being the other strategy, is to raise with a pair, fold with less than Ace King, and raise on ace/king if any of the following applies:

  1. Raise if the dealer’s card is a 2 – Queen and matches one of yours
  2. Raise if the dealer’s card is an Ace or King and you have a Queen or Jack in your hand
  3. Raise if the dealer’s rank does not match any of yours and you have a Queen in your hand and the dealer’s card is less than your fourth- highest card.

Former Dealer David “DrKool” Kuder Named First-Ever WSOP PA Player of the Year

Former Dealer David "DrKool" Kuder Named First-Ever WSOP PA Player of the Year

In January 2022, Pennsylvania’s David “DrKool” Kuder quit his job as a poker dealer at Wind Creek Casino and decided to play the game full-time. He had been playing online poker since the Moneymaker Boom and opted to stick with that, spending the year playing a full schedule on WSOP PA.

Twelve months later, it would be difficult to argue that Kuder’s gamble hadn’t paid off. After cashing in 46 WSOP PA events and picking up two Circuit rings — his first in a $215 buy-in Pot Limit Omaha PKO event in June for $6,801 and a $215 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout event the next month for $6,160 — for a total in $70,406 in earnings on the site alone, Kuder was named the first-ever WSOP PA Player of the Year.

PokerNews caught up with “DrKool” to discuss his background in poker and his transition to playing full-time that brought him two Circuit rings.

Check out this review of WSOP PA!

Interview With 2022 WSOP PA POY David Kuder

PokerNews: Can you say a bit about your poker background? How long have you been playing poker and how did you discover the game?

David Kuder: I started playing poker regularly with friends shortly before the Moneymaker Boom. Started playing online around the same time. More recently I’ve dealt poker at Wind Creek Casino but quit as of January 2022 to take a shot at playing full-time.

You were named the first-ever WSOP PA Player of the Year race with 56,926 points, far ahead of the next closest player with 39,672 points. What contributed to your fantastic year of online poker?

The main thing that separated me from the field was my willingness to play a lot of volume at all stakes. When I saw the promotion I knew that a lot of the high-stakes guys are not going to bother with playing smaller tournaments. Winning smaller tournaments allowed me to not only play in bigger buy-ins myself, but to also accumulate points for the Player of the Year leaderboard.

Your 2022 consisted of 46 WSOP PA cashes, including two first-place finishes for two Circuit rings. How did it feel to win both your first and second Circuit ring?

I was very happy to get my first ring in a format I really enjoy, Omaha PKO. Winning the 2nd ring was a bonus as these tournaments get a lot of strong players and anytime you can close one out it’s a great feeling. The bracelet search continues this year, that’s my next goal.

Going to Vegas to play in the Tournament of Champions was a lot of fun and I’m hoping to be able to do that again this year. I feel fortunate that PA was one of the first states regulated where we get to play these types of events.

You’ve already picked up a few WSOP PA cashes to start the new year. Are you planning to play another full online schedule in 2023?

I will be playing full-time again this year. Likely not going to play as much as last year but will certainly be playing as many ring and bracelet events as possible.

You’ve also had success at live tournaments in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Do you have any plans to return to the live felt, at the World Series of Poker or elsewhere?

To say that I’ve had “success” in live tournaments is a bit of a stretch. I’ve had a handful of small cashes but nothing substantial. I look forward to getting out for more live events both in PA and at the WSOP.

Gruneberg, Leonard Also Had Strong Years

Kuder was not the only Pennsylvania grinder who had a successful 2022. “uneedtherapy” finished second in the POY race with 39,672 points, while Zachary “CaptainLevi” Gruneberg finished in third with 39,598 points after winning his first three career Circuit rings and finishing runner-up in three other ring events.

Edward “Makunouchi” Leonard, meanwhile, finished in fourth with 38,770 points after a year that included a third-place finish in a $500 buy-in WSOP PA bracelet event for $13,158.

Relax Gaming Released a New Game Grim the Splitter Dream Drop

relax gaming

Famous iGaming aggregator and supplier of thrilling and popular content, Relax Gaming, decided to start the new year with a blast. The newest company’s release, Grim the Splitter Dream Drop, brings a spooky atmosphere sprinkled with a bit of good humor – the combination that always wins!

Highly entertaining game with amazing awards:

This high volatility slot is placed across 5×3 reels and possesses an RTP of 94%. The biggest possible win is huge – players can possibly win up to 10,000x

Also, for the bravest ones, there is a possibility of winning an extraordinary amount of wilds and free spins. The possibilities are almost endless if the players decide to lay their cards on the table and try their luck.

When the wild appears on the reel, it is splitting in two. It leads to duplicating the symbols that already exist on the reel. There is also an amazing possibility of splitting every reel simultaneously.

The best is probably the fact that the Splitter Feature can be used thrice for every reel. It enables players to win up to 20 symbols during the game.

The additional spin will be awarded if the Bonus Symbol appears on the reels during the Free Spins round. Bonus Symbol can split as well, which gives the players one more spin for every reel that has been split.

Seven free spins will be activated if the player gets lucky and three Bonus Symbols land. If there are more Bonus Symbols, the number of free spins will increase accordingly.

Free Spins and more:

Bonus Symbols will be deposited above the reel when the Free Spins Round is already activated. When the Wild lands, it will activate the Splitter Feature

This isn’t everything: a Dream Drop Bonus, one of Relax Gaming’s features, is also included in the game. It activates if five Dream Drop symbols land during any spin in the base game.

The players might win five jackpots: Rapid, Midi, Maxi, Major, or Mega.

Dream Drop Bonus gives the players 15 different possibilities – and they need to reveal three matching jackpots. Every click reveals one of them, and when all three are revealed, the jackpot round ends.

Simon Hammon, CEO of Relax Gaming, said: “Grim the Splitter is unlike anything we have created before or that we’ve ever seen on the market. The Reel Splitting mechanic is a true innovation, and we’re confident players will have a blast with it.

“The tone is spookier than anything we’ve done before but there are quite a few funny moments sprinkled in, lightening the mood for a roller coaster experience that’s sure to keep players engaged.”

Relax Gaming is a famous B2B supplier, and it recently won the Best Mobile Gaming Software Provider award at the EGR B2B Awards. The company was also awarded Casino/Slot Developer of the Year at the SBC Awards, as well as the Best Game Provider at the AskGamblers Awards last year. The company’s portfolio consists of over 4.000 games.

Mansion Group Shutting Down All of Its UK Online Casino Brands

Person pressing emergency stop button

Gone for good

Mansion Group is exiting the UK online casino market. This week’s announcements follows the company’s move in March 2022 to close all of its sports betting operations in the UK.

Slots Heaven, Casino(dot)com, and Mansion Casino

The three Mansion Group online casino brands that have been operating in the area are Slots Heaven, Casino(dot)com, and Mansion Casino. Each of the sites now display a message to inform people of the closures. The company will be surrendering its UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) license.

Quick closures

As of Thursday at 5pm GMT, the three platforms stopped taking deposits from users, with gameplay shutting down shortly before midnight on the same day. People who hold an account with one or more of the online casino brands have been told to withdraw any funds before midnight on April 12. People will still be able to remove funds after this date, but the process will become more complex and take longer.

increasingly challenging regulatory conditions have put a strain on the company’s profitability

The company did not give much of an advance warning to users about the closures. Mansion Group CMO Neil Gallacher commented on the news, saying that the company’s focus “in 2023 and beyond is to continue to double down on the most profitable markets where we currently operate, while always seeking to explore emerging markets.” He noted that the UK was the core market for the company for many years, but increasingly challenging regulatory conditions have put a strain on the company’s profitability.

Winding down its UK presence

Mansion Group has been a part of the UK online casino market since getting a UKGC license in November 2017.

Mansion Group had numerous high-profile sponsorship agreements over the years in the UK, including with Premier League teams like Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, and Manchester City.

At the time of the sportsbook closure, the company informed users by email that the decision was made to concentrate fully on the online casino platforms. It also explained at the time that it was working on expanding its presence in other markets, including Spain and Canada.

Borgata The Return Hands of the Week: Cuz Flops ’em Dead; Player Gets “Red-Pilled”

Borgata The Return Hands of the Week: Cuz Flops 'em Dead; Player Gets "Red-Pilled"

Tournament poker returned to Atlantic City in a big way this last with the The Return – A Borgata Championship Event. The series consisted of four different tournaments, including a $5,300 Championship Event, a $2,200 Mystery Bounty, and a $2,100 Bounty Event.

Here’s a look at the winners from those three tournaments:

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team was on-site to offer live updates from all three of those events. Here’s a look at five of the more interesting hands captured in our live updates at the Borgata The Return.

Wang Makes Quads to Double Through Zamani

Michael Wang

In Level 1 (100/100/100) on Day 1a of the $5,300 Championship, PokerNews got to the table just as a massive pot was brewing between Martin Zamani on the button and Michael Wang in the small blind.

On a board of {4-}{4-}{3-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}, Zamani was seen moving all in and Wang quickly called with a slightly smaller stack before tabling {3-Spades}{3-Hearts} for quads. It was an early cooler as Zamani showed {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for trips after turning a flush draw.

Another player at the table revealed he folded the fourth four in the deck with {9-Hearts}{4-Hearts}.

Zack Wins Set Over Set

Dan Zack
Dan Zack

Also on Day 1a, albeit in Level 9 (600/1,200/1,200), Dan Zack was on the button in a heads-up pot against an early position opponent on a board of {j-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}.

The opponent bet 22,600 on the turn and Zack called. The {5-Spades} river completed the board and the opponent bet 47,000. Zack sat motionless before announcing all in to send his opponent into the tank.

The opponent gave a frustrated laugh and eventually called off for his final 25,000. Zack showed {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds} for jacks full of fives and the opponent was forced to show {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades} for a lower full house after both players had flopped sets.

“I Flopped Him Dead!”: Buckner Flops Quads

Steven Buckner
Steve “Cuz” Buckner

In Level 8 (500/1,000/1,000) of Day 1 in the $2,100 Bounty Event right before the dinner break, Steve Buckner raised and an opponent three-bet jammed a stack of 19,000. Buckner called with a bigger stack.

Opponent: {a-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Steven Buckner: {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

The flop of {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{j-Hearts} got Buckner screaming as he had flopped quads. “I flopped him dead!” Buckner celebrated as the board finished out {7-Spades}{4-Hearts}.

“You know I love you, Cuz,” Buckner told the unfortunate opponent as he picked up another bounty.

“Frankie the Fish” Puts a Beat on Anderson

Sung
Sung “Frankie the Fish” Lee

On Day 1 of the $2,100 Bounty Event, it was Level 9 (600/1,200/1,200) when Francis Anderson was all in against Sung “Frankie the Fish” Lee, who had him covered.

Francis Anderson: {j-}{j-}
Sung “Frankie the Fish” Lee: {q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

The flop landed {10-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} to give Anderson a set but to leave Lee some hope with a gutshot. The board then ran out {7-Hearts}{8-Clubs} for Lee to hit his straight and Anderson went out in painful fashion.

Earlier in the week, Anderson finished eighth in the $2,200 Mystery Bounty Event for $104,084 after a nine-handed chop.

“You Got Red-Pilled”: Levy Doubles After Wong Randomizes

She Wong
She Wong

On Day 2 of the $2,100 Bounty Event, it was Level 23 (20,000/40,000/40,000) when She Wong opened to 65,000 from under the gun and Simon Levy three-bet jammed for 280,000 from the big blind. The bigger-stacked Wong was unsure what to do and eventually resorted to randomness as he shuffled a mix of red and blue chips.

“If I pull red, I call. If I pull blue, I’m folding,” Wong said. He looked away and his hand hovered over a blue chip before fate had him eventually land on red for a call.

Simon Levy: {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
She Wong: {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}

“You got red-pilled,” laughed Scott Bohlman.

Levy was able to survive the flip as the board ran out {9-Spades}{j-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and he earned the double thanks to Wong’s random decision.

“I’m glad you called now,” Levy said. “I was upset at first!”

Bohlman Drowned on the River

Scott Bohlman
Scott Bohlman

With just six players remaining in the $2,100 Bounty, it was Level 28 (50,000/100,000/100,000) when Scott Bohlman was all in as the short stack against chip leader Mitchell Garshofsky.

Scott Bohlman: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Mitchell Garshofsky: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}

Bohlman took a big lead when the flop landed {2-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}, but the board then finished out {4-Spades}{8-Clubs} for an eight on the river to send Bohlman out in gut-wrenching fashion.
