Mattress Mack Going Big Again, Bets Over $3m on TCU to Win the College Football Championship

TCU is a big underdog

A major US sports championship is approaching, which means it is time for a humongous bet from Mattress Mack. This time, he has placed more than $3m in wagers on the TCU Horned Frogs to beat the Georgia Bulldogs in next Monday’s College Football Playoff National Championship.

Texas loyalty

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Mack, whose real name is Jim McIngvale, bet on TCU, as he is from Houston and the school is in Fort Worth. Texas loyalty, as it were.

As reported by Darren Rovell of Action Network, about a two-thirds of Mattress Mack’s bets on are on the TCU moneyline. His biggest chunk is $1.5m at DraftKings, where he got TCU +370. He also put down $500,000 at Caesars at +400 and $130,000 at WynnBet at +380.

McIngvale plunked down another $1m on the spread, where he got TCU at +13 with a vig of -110. Should TCU pull off the sizeable upset (they just beat Michigan in the semifinal as a 7.5-point underdog), McIngvale stands to win about $8m.

Record-setting World Series cash

Mattress Mack has been making these insane wagers for years, but he topped all of them in 2022 when he won $75m when his favorite team, the Houston Astros, won the World Series this past fall. He placed a series of bets throughout the season totaling $10m, getting average odds of +750. It was the largest official sports betting payout ever recorded.

The Astros were one of the favorites to win it all the entire season and they had very little trouble in the playoffs. They swept the Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees in the first two rounds (though they needed a historic comeback in Game 1 against Seattle to win that first game) and then beat the Philadelphia Phillies in six games to win the World Series.

Houston did fall behind two games to one to Philly, but took the next three games to secure the title. They were never at risk of elimination.

Master promoter

Aside from being quite wealthy, Mattress Mack is able to make multi-million bets multiple times a year because he pairs them with a promotion at his Gallery Furniture store in Houston. With his TCU bet, he is giving every customer who makes a “qualifying Tempur-Pedic, Sealy, Stearns and Foster mattress set $3,000 or more when you buy and take immediate delivery” two times their money back if the Horned Frogs wins the national title.

While he is not guaranteed to profit either way, the promo is used as a hedge against his bets or vice versa, depending on one’s perspective. Should TCU beat Georgia, Mattress Mack will win millions, but lose a truckload refunding customers twice their purchase total. If TCU loses, he’ll lose $3m+, but will likely have made more money off of the promotion than he normally would without it. Even if he loses money (and he has frequently come out significantly on the plus side), he sees it as a marketing expense.

I thrive on chaos.”

Plus, for Jim McIngvale, it’s simply a lot of fun. “I just get bored to death with stability, which is why I guess I like all of these big bets,” he told ESPN in October 2022. “I thrive on chaos.”

“My wife says I have a gambling problem. I say I have a promotion problem.”

Kansas City Chiefs vs Las Vegas Raiders Week 18 Odds, Time, and Prediction

The Kansas City Chiefs have secured their place in the playoffs, but it’s still not certain whether they’ll finish no. 1 in the AFC and get a first-round bye. Likely for them, their destiny is in their hands – they just need to beat the unmotivated Las Vegas Raiders in Week 18.

When, Where, and How to Watch?

  • Place: Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada
  • Date: Saturday, January 7, 2023
  • Time: 4:30 PM ET
  • How to Watch: ABC

Kansas City Chiefs to Secure the AFC No. 1 Spot

The Chiefs are 13-3 this season, which is one win more than the Buffalo Bills and two more than the Cincinnati Bengals, both of which have played a game fewer than the Chiefs. They were supposed to play one another, but the Bills vs Bengals game was abandoned after Buffalo’s Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field.

What this means is that if the Chiefs don’t beat the Raiders on Saturday, there will be a possibility that they might drop out from the top spot. Still, the chances that the Chiefs don’t win look very slim. First of all, they’re in much better shape than the Raiders with four straight wins.

Further, the Chiefs seem to love playing against the Raiders. They are 9-1 against this opponent in the last 10 meetings. The Chiefs’ most recent trip to Allegiant Stadium saw them blow out the opponents 41-14.

Las Vegas Raiders’ Season Is Over

The Raiders are 6-10 right now, meaning that the season is over for them. Whatever happens in Week 18, they will not make the playoffs. They did have a good chance to get there but they lost three games in the previous four gameweeks.

And all of those losses were painful for their fans. For instance, they lost by just one point to the Los Angeles Rams. They also lost by just three points to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Finally, in their first game of 2023, the Raiders lost to the San Francisco 49ers by three points in overtime.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Las Vegas Raiders Prediction

The Raiders probably aren’t in a great mood now that it’s clear that they’ve gambled away their chances of making the playoffs. It’s just the opposite when it comes to the Chiefs. They’re in a great mood and are coming to Vegas to get a big win.

Picks: Kansas City Chiefs to win and cover the spread

NetGaming Content to Mark US Entry via Michigan License

NetGaming Content to Mark US Entry via Michigan License

Developer of online casino content NetGaming announced it has received its supplier license from the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) to mark its first entry into the US.

‘Arduous’ Application Process

The supplier license granted by the MGCB will allow NetGaming to supply to licensed iGaming operators in Michigan its suite of online casino content, beginning with several of its popular titles, including 3 Wild Jokers, Aped, Juicy Gold 100 and Casino Punks.

“We are thrilled to receive the license,” said NetGaming’s chief executive officer Pallavi Deshmukh, pointing to the “arduous” nature of the licensing process in the US and what “a big undertaking” is to receive a license in one of the country’s major online casino markets, hailing the relentless effort of the team “to ensure all the i’s were dotted and the t’s were crossed.”

“For a start-up to receive an iGaming license in the US is no small feat,” Deshmukh continued, expressing how “incredibly proud” he feels of the team behind this achievement that is marking the developer’s maiden US supplier license. “We can’t wait to go live with our launch partner,” he concluded.

Expansion in the US Imminent

NetGaming is planning to offer online casino players in the state more of its game titles throughout the remainder of the year, while applications in other US gaming jurisdictions are currently underway.

Michigan’s online casino market is on the rise as the report released by the state’s regulator last month showed operators set yet another record in revenue in November to surpass the previous record set in the month before.

Online casino operations in the Great Lakes State accounted for $145.4 million in November revenue to marginally surpass the October revenue figure of $141 million, while the year-to-date iGaming revenue was $1.3 billion.

Outside of the US, NetGaming is supplying its casino content titles via licenses from the Malta Gaming Authority, the Gambling Commission in the UK and the regulator of the Dutch island of Curacao, while also holding certifications in Georgia and Belarus.

Recently, NetGaming acquired a license to supply its content in Greece and is planning to launch in the market soon in partnership with one of the biggest local operators.

In October, NetGaming entered into a partnership with slot games review website SlotsJudge to facilitate information about its new and established slot titles.

The deal followed shortly after a similar agreement with the operator of four of the best slot portals, Kensho Media, to enhance awareness and access to NetGaming’s titles in Italy, Spain, and Latin America.

Samuel Laskowitz of Bayport, New York won that tournament for $146,609 in prize money after an ICM deal at the final table. Right behind Laskowitz in chips was Anthony Maio, who ended with $142,054 in prize money to add to his over $1 million in career earnings.

Also scoring a big payday in the tournament was Ryan Dodd, who not only made the final table as the short stack but also pulled the highly sought-after $250,000 top bounty! The moment was captured by PokerNews:

Here’s a look at five of the more interesting hands captured by the PokerNews Live Reporting Team in the Borgata $2,200 Mystery Bounty event.

Foxen Falls to Better Full House

Alex Foxen
Alex Foxen

On Day 1a, it was Level 2 (100/200/200) when, just as quickly as he entered the tournament, Alex Foxen was eliminated.

As relayed to PokerNews by the table, Foxen opened to 500 and received two callers, including Frank Bland. Foxen bet 500 on the flop of {6-}{6-}{2-} and only Bland called.

Foxen sized up to 3,000 on the {7-} turn and Bland again called. The {2-} river completed the board and Foxen bet 10,000. Bland moved all in and Foxen called with a smaller stack.

Bland showed {7-}{7-} for sevens full of deuces, while Foxen showed an inferior full house with {a-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for sixes full of deuces.

Foxen quickly bought back into the event and sat down with a fresh starting stack of 35,000.

“Call the Press!” Lonis Scoops for Double KO

Jesse Lonis
Jesse Lonis

On Day 2 in Level 15 (2,500/5,000/5,000), PokerNews got to Table 7 just as a massive hand involving three players was underway. Action kicked off with Martin Mirkovic opening to 11,500 from under the gun and the next player to act calling before a middle position player three-bet jammed for around 65,000.

Action folded to Jesse Lonis in the small blind, who four-bet jammed a bigger stack. The big blind then also moved all in with around 70,000.

“Call the press!” Lonis yelled as the massive hand played out and he alerted his friend at another table who had a piece of his bounty.

“The press is here!” someone replied.

Mirkovic went deep in the tank and eventually folded, while the flat-caller also folded.

Middle Position: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Big Blind: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Jesse Lonis: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}

Lonis was in good shape but the big blind had two live outs and was screaming for a queen.

“Queen!” he yelled as the flop landed {j-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{9-Spades}. “QUEEN!” he repeated before the {4-Spades} turn. The opponent gave up asking for a queen before the {9-Clubs} bricked off on the river for Lonis to eliminate both opponents.

“Scoop!” he cheered.

After the hand, Mirkovic told the table that he folded ace-king.

“That’s the Way to Go Out, Boys!”

Gerard Petrocelli
Gerard Petrocelli

Also on Day 2, albeit in Level 26 (30,000/60,000/60,000), Gerard Petrocelli open-shoved from under the gun and Alexander Tumay re-shoved from the next seat with 685,000, slightly having Petrocelli covered. Baruch Forst called in the big blind with both players covered.

Gerard Petrocelli: {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Alexander Tumay: {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}
Baruch Forst: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

The flop landed {7-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{q-Spades} to give Petrocelli the lead with a pair of jacks and the {j-Hearts} on the turn only improved his hand. “Ten!” yelled Forst without realizing such a card would give Petrocelli a full house.

But it was Tumay who made the full house as the river brought the {6-Clubs} to give him sixes full of jacks and to send Petrocelli out in excruciating fashion.

“Holy shit! This is crazy,” Nathan Cho reacted in real-time.

“That’s the way to go out, boys,” Petrocelli said stoically.

Bianco Slays Failla in Huge Dramatic Pot

Benedetto Bianco
Benedetto Bianco

In Level 24 (20,000/40,000/40,000) on Day 2, there was a commotion at the table as the board read {10-Spades}{j-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} and two boisterous players ended up all in on the turn in a massive pot, one of the largest of the day thus far.

Emanuel “Will the Thrill” Failla held the nuts with the {k-Spades}{q-Spades} while Benedetto Bianco had the {a-Spades}{5-Spades}. The river dramatically came the {4-Spades} to give Bianco the nut flush and crush Failla.

“Yes! You can’t beat me, I’m the luckiest guy in the world!” said Bianco to Failla.

The two New Yorkers loudly razzed and boasted at each other while the dealer counted out the stacks to see who had the larger stack.

“I don’t care, I got 30 jobs I want to get out of here,” said Bianco about his turn call.

“My watch is worth more than both of your lives,” said Failla in retort while gesturing to the two players next to him.

Eventually, it was determined that Failla was barely covered and he was eliminated in dramatic fashion while Bianco became one of the biggest stacks in the room.

Misclick Costs Anthony Giliberti His Tournament Life

Anthony Giliberti
Anthony Giliberti

On Day 2 with just 17 players remaining in Level 27 (40,000/80,000/80,000), Anthony Maio opened to 175,000 from the cutoff and Anthony Giliberti three-bet jammed from the button for around 3,000,000. Maio quickly called with a slightly larger stack when the action got around.

Anthony Giliberti: {q-Spades}{5-Spades}
Anthony Maio: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}

Giliberti was startled as Maio announced “call” to his right and told the table he didn’t realize there had been a raise and instead thought he was open-ripping into the short-stacked blinds. Instead, he found himself at risk of busting a more than 37 big blind stack with far less than a premium.

The flop landed {8-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{5-Clubs} to give him some hope with a pair, but nonetheless, the board ran out {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and others at the table sat gasping after witnessing the accidental implosion. Just like that, he was out in 17th place for $8,936.

India Introduces Online Gambling Legislation

India Introduces Online Gambling Legislation

On Monday, the Indian government proposed the rules, which will be part of the Indian Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code, due to concerns over the rising number of complaints of gambling addiction, especially among minors. For the first time, these regulations will oversee aspects of online gambling that stand in a “grey area” between entertainment and gambling practices.

As per the draft rules, the term “online game” includes every game which is played on the Internet and in which the player “makes a deposit with the expectation of earning winnings”. The Indian information technology ministry could determine the exact games, which are covered by the legislation.

“Self-Regulatory Bodies” Instead of a Sole Government Regulator

The proposed rules suggest the creation of “self-regulatory bodies” instead of the establishment of a sole regulatory agency. The board of these bodies should consist of “an independent person from the online gaming, sports or entertainment” sectors, a representative of the online game players, an expert in psychology or consumer education, and an expert in public policy who has to be appointed by the Indian government. Per the draft changes, companies should name a chief compliance officer and verify the user identity before the creation of an online account.

One of the main tasks of these bodies will be to elaborate rules for the online gambling segment, which would prevent players from suffering harm and addiction. The established framework of rules should also protect children and prevent financial criminal practices.

In case a self-regulatory body does not create efficient rules or fails to oversee the companies in the sector, the central government would take the respective measures, including suspension of the registration of such bodies.

A Boom in the Online Gaming Market in India

Roland Landers, chief executive officer of All India Gaming Federation, commented that this was a great first step for the regulation of the online gaming sector and would reduce the “state-wise regulatory fragmentation”, which causes difficulties for gaming companies.

The Indian information technology ministry published the draft rules after a recommendation was made by a government panel because the gambling sector is supposed to reach $7 billion by 2026. Recently, many US companies, such as Tiger Global and Sequoia Capital, have supported Indian start-ups, namely Dream11 and Mobile Premier League, which are popular with their “fantasy cricket”. The development and expansion of such games, especially among young people, has led to addiction, financial losses, and in some cases – suicides.

Penn’s Barstool Sportsbook Conditionally Approved in Massachusetts

Penn’s Barstool Sportsbook Conditionally Approved in Massachusetts

Barstool Sportsbook became the latest sportsbook to receive approval from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) for mobile sports betting operations for the upcoming mobile market launch in March.

Mobile Sports Betting License Received

Penn Sports Interactive (PSI)’s Barstool Sportsbook received conditional preliminary approval for a temporary sports betting license this week after commissioners carried the vote that was initially delayed from December. Barstool Sportsbook will operate mobile sports betting tethered to the temporary retail sports betting license of Plainridge Park Casino, one of only three land-based casinos approved for in-person sports betting. PlainRidge Park Casino is also operated by Penn.

The other two casinos approved for in-person betting are Encore Boston Harbor and MGM Springfield, and while retail sports betting is expected to launch on January 31, mobile wagering is scheduled to go live in March but is still to receive a launch date.

Joining the likes of WynnBET, BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook, which already obtained a Category 3 mobile sports betting license from the MGC, was not an easy ride for Barstool Sportsbook as it had to undergo extensive scrutiny during the commission’s meeting and subsequent executive session as commissioners questioned its links to Barstool Sports.

According to Commissioner Eileen O’Brien who made the motion, “Penn Sports Interactive [doing business as] Barstool Sportsbook has shown by substantial evidence that they have satisfied the criteria set forth in general,” but several commissioners had expressed concerns related to Barstool Sports branding and founder, Dave Portnoy, during previous meetings.

According to Commissioner Brad Hill, who spoke during the December hearing on Plainrigde Park Casino’s Category 1 license application, Portnoy’s depiction of himself as a “degenerate gambler” and other comments “he has made in the past fly in the face of responsible gaming.”

To alleviate these concerns, Penn Entertainment, which owns part of Barstool Sports, is expected to acquire its full ownership in February, and is applying for a license via PSI, had to agree to fully cooperate with the MGC’s Investigation and Enforcement Bureau (IEB) regarding the investigation into Barstool Sports in connection with branding, as well as several other conditions.

Another condition stipulated efforts to ensure people under the age of 21 do not attend any of the live Barstool College Football Shows, following the $250,000 fine slapped by the Ohio Casino Control Commission for violating the rule not to promote to people in that age category during its live show at the University of Toledo.

Other conditions include the provision of updates to IEB regarding “the Illinois matter that was discussed in the executive session,” the provision of diversity goals on its spending, and the supply of diversity goals for its workforce.

TCU Horned Frogs Making History

This season, the Horned Frogs became the first NCAAF team to make the Playoff after starting the season unranked. They’re 13-1 this season, with their only loss happening against Kansas State in early December. The Wildcats beat them 31-28 after overtime. The game, however, had no importance for the Horned Frogs who had already secured the No. 1 spot in the Big 12 Conference before that duel.

Since that loss, the Horned Frogs have played one more game. On the last day of 2022, TCU took part in the Fiesta Bowl, in which they defeated the Michigan Wolverines 51-45. The Horned Frogs entered the game as 8-point underdogs but were still able to surprise the oddsmakers.

They did, however, make a couple of big mistakes in that game. Their defense, for instance, allowed a 54-yard run by the opposition running back on the very first play. Luckily for TCU, the RB was tackled close to the 20-yard line.

TCU’s defense wasn’t great in that game, but their offense did a marvelous job. They scored 51 points against Michigan, which is something no one’s done since 2019. The trouble, however, is that in the NCAAF Championship game, they’re taking on a team that’s great in defense.

Georgia Bulldogs are Favored for a Reason

The Bulldogs got to their second CFP final in a row after defeating Ohio State in the Peach Bowl on New Year’s Eve. It was their 14th straight win of the season in which they didn’t lose a single game. That sure is impressive, but there’s one thing that needs to worry them – they beat the Buckeyes by just one point.

The final score was 42-41 for the Bulldogs who scored the game-winning TD (and extra point) in the final minute of the match. Despite entering the game as 6-point favorites, they just couldn’t handle the Buckeyes until the final moments of the game. In fact, they came into the fourth quarter with a 14-point deficit.

The comeback has certainly given them a confidence boost. However, it’s also probably made them worried that they might not be able to surge back again if the same thing happens in the 2022-23 National Championship game. That’s why we expect to see them play more cautiously than before.

TCU Horned Frogs vs Georgia Bulldogs Prediction

There’s a lot at stake in this game, which is why both teams will probably look to risk less. As a result, this might not be as entertaining a game as one might expect. We shouldn’t see too many points and a blowout win by either team looks almost impossible.

We just can’t see the Bulldogs cover the 13-point spread. However, we do think they’re the better team. Our prediction is that Georgia will win the Championship, albeit by just a few points margin.

Picks: Georgia Bulldogs to win but not cover the spread; under to hit
