Six-Week 2023 Wynn Summer Classic Will Have $28 Million in Guarantees

Fresh off of a successful Wynn Millions festival that saw Michael Rossito winning the $3,500 buy-in Main Event for $604,637, the luxurious Las Vegas casino has released the schedule for this year’s Wynn Summer Classic, which gets underway May 25 and runs through July 19.

The six-week festival, one of many great poker tournament offerings taking place in Las Vegas this summer alongside the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP), will have more than $28 million in guaranteed prize pools and will feature events like the World Poker Tour (WPT) Everyone for One Drop, a $10,500 buy-in event with a $10 million guarantee and the $111,000 buy-in WPT Alpha 8 for One Drop.

$28 Million in Guarantees

This year’s Wynn Summer Classic will kick off on May 25 with a two-day $1,100 H.O.R.S.E. event with a $50,000 guarantee. Other mixed game tournaments will follow as the next events on the schedule are $1,100 Limit Omaha 8 with a $50,000 guarantee and $3,000 8 Game with a $150,000 guarantee.

But don’t worry, there are plenty of No-Limit Hold’em events on the schedule as well. Some of the highlights include $1,100 No-Limit Hold’em, a four-starting flight event with a $1.5 million guarantee, as well as the three-day $3,500 No-Limit Hold’em with a $4 million guaranteed prize pool.

The Wynn is known for its dramatic and heartwarming Mystery Bounty events and this summer will be no different with the $2.5 million guaranteed $2,200 Mystery Bounty event and the later $1,600 Mystery Bounty with a $2 million guaranteed prize pool. Casino employees will also have a chance to get in on the bounty action with the $500 Casino Employee Mystery Bounty with a $100,000 guarantee.

The second charity event will be the WPT Alpha8 for One Drop, a three-day $111,000 High Roller tournament that is the first Alpha8 tournament to take place since December 2015. The event starts on July 14 and there will be live-streamed coverage beginning on Day 2.

6 Las Vegas Facts That Sound False But Are Actually True!

6 Las Vegas Facts That Sound False But Are Actually True!

It’s the most famous city in all of poker. Home to 60 major casinos and over 150,000 hotel rooms Las Vegas is a destination on the bucket lists of poker fans and players alike.

The 2023 World Series of Poker is now less than three months away, and with many people planning their trips, booking their hotels, and getting ready for a summer in Sin City, PokerNews is here to tell you six unusual facts that you might not have believed otherwise!

2023 World Series of Poker Hub

Bookmark this page! All you need to know about the 2023 WSOP is here.

1. Viva Clark County?

As the famous line states, ‘What happens in Vegas…stays in Vegas.’ Well, technically, some things don’t happen in Vegas at all. That’s because the Las Vegas Strip- or Las Vegas Boulevard South if you want to be technical- is not in Las Vegas at all!

The actual city of Las Vegas only starts at East Sahara Avenue, a road that bisects the Strip after the Sahara but before The Strat. Before then you’re technically in ‘unincorporated Clark County’ between Paradise and Winchester.

Wondering how to get around Las Vegas — sorry, Clark County? Then look no further than our Las Vegas Strip Monorail Guide. This helpful article will show you exactly how to get around the Strip, whether you’re there for the 2023 WSOP or just for a holiday!

2. Lots and Lots of Wedding Bells

It wouldn’t be Las Vegas without an Elvis impersonator. Or an Elvis impersonator officiating a wedding. Vegas weddings have been made famous by films such as The Hangover, What Happens in Vegas, and the classic Viva Las Vegas — starring Elvis himself!

But did you know that over 120,000 weddings are carried out every year in Las Vegas, according to the Little Vegas Chapel. That equates to over 300 a day! That’s a lot of “I do’s”…

3. Is it a Bird? Is it a Plane?

The Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino has hosted the World Series of Poker since 2022 and is one of the most eye-catching on the Las Vegas Strip.

Primarily because of the 540-foot-tall replica of the Eiffel Tower and the Parisian-themed decor throughout the property. Initially, the plans were for a full-scale replica, but there were concerns by authorities that planes from nearby Harry Reid International Airport might collide with the tower.

If the tower were full-sized, it would soar above the Vegas skyline at 1,083 ft, becoming one of the city’s tallest structures. It would surpass the tallest property (Resorts World Las Vegas) and would trail only behind The Strat, which at 1,149 feet has been the tallest structure in Las Vegas since 1996.

4. Is Everything Bigger in…Vegas?

When opened in October 1993, the pyramid at Luxor Las Vegas was the tallest building on the strip. However, its Sphinx is where we’re headed for our next unusual fact.

The pyramid may be similar in size to those found in the Valley of the Kings, but unlike the Eiffel Tower in front of Paris Las Vegas, the Sphinx in front of the Luxor is larger than its Egyptian counterpart.

At 110 ft high, it’s more than 40 ft taller than the Great Sphinx of Giza and serves as one of the main ways into the Egyptian-themed property, which also features the notorious Sky Beam and the HyperX Esports Arena.

Daniel Negreanu Shares His Top 6 Favorite Las Vegas Poker Rooms (… and Least Favorite!)

5. First Telephone in Las Vegas

The city has a long and colorful history of gambling as much as anything else, but how far back do you have to go to find the oldest hotel and casino in Las Vegas?

Two properties lay claim to the record — the El Cortez and the Golden Gate. The El Cortez was opened in November 1941 and is the oldest continuously existing casino in Las Vegas, having been in continuous operation for over 80 years.

However, the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino was initially opened in January 1906! The diverging claims come from the fact that between 1909 and 1931, gambling was illegal in Las Vegas, so the casino closed its doors. Golden Gate Hotel and Casino also holds other Las Vegas firsts, including the first hotel in the city with plumbing and the first telephone in Las Vegas!

6. Not Allowed in Nevada

It’s the gambling capital of the world. In 2022 alone, Nevada set a gaming revenue record for $14.8 billion — but none of that gambling came from the lottery. Why? Because it’s illegal in Nevada.

It’s all because of the Nevada state constitution, ratified in 1864. Section 24 clearly states that “No lottery may be authorized by this State, nor may lottery tickets be sold”. As a result, if anyone wanted to play the lottery in Las Vegas, they would have to drive 45 minutes and hop over to California to play.

The Best Casino Sign-up Bonuses in New Jersey

Every online casino is competing with every other. As the customer, one of the main benefits of this competition is the plethora of online casino bonus codes that are available. Each one offers some perk or perks. These can range from a free bet to deposit bonuses of thousands of dollars.

Some of the best sign-up casino bonuses available in New Jersey are those for FanDuel Casino, Borgata, PokerStars Casino, PartyCasino, and Unibet Casino.

FanDuel Casino typically have a range of bonuses and offers available for casino players. When we researched this piece, they were offering money back if you find yourself down after your first day playing, up to a total of $1,000.

Borgata Casino in New Jersey are similar to a few on this list with the type of bonuses they offer. We found a 100% Deposit Match (up to $1,000) which came with $20 free Bonus Dollars to spend at the online casino.

PokerStars Casino bonuses are generous, with additional rewards provided throughout the player’s time on the site. The additional rewards are tied to a loot box system, where the player unlocks “chests” based on how much they have wagered and on which games.

Though PartyCasino bonuses in New Jersey have changed over time, they tend to include a first deposit bonus as standard.

Unibet Casino is one of the oldest brands in the industry and so comes with a great deal of experience, a wide variety of games, and a choice of different Unibet Casino bonuses to choose from.

What is a Sign-up Bonus?

Sign-up bonuses are a way of attracting new players to a casino by giving them an incentive to set up an account. These incentives usually take the form of free bets or free spins on slot machines, or a deposit bonus.

These may seem too good to be true, appearing to amount to more or less “free” money. While some casinos do treat aspects of their bonus system as loss leaders, most online casino bonuses are designed to pay for themselves. The standard way casinos make this work for them is through wagering requirements.

A wagering requirement means the player cannot withdraw the bonus dollars (or winnings from free bets and spins), until the player has bet a certain amount. This is normally a multiple of the bonus amount. For example, Unibet Casino bonuses must be wagered thirty times (e.g. a $1,000 deposit bonus can only be withdrawn after the player makes $30,000 worth of bets).

The Best Casino No-deposit Bonuses in New Jersey

A no-deposit bonus is an offer that a player can claim before they put their own money on an account. These bonuses tend to be small (in the tens of dollars range). Sometimes they come in the form of bonus dollars, and sometimes in the form of a free bet. Usually, a free bet means the casino will pay you back if you lose the first bet you make.

As with other kinds of bonuses, no deposit casino bonuses are typically subject to wagering requirements.

Some of the best no-deposit bonuses in New Jersey come from:

BetMGM offers a hybrid bonus, with $100 added to players’ accounts on sign-up and a generous matched bonus of 100% up to $1,000 to follow. This makes the BegMGM casino bonus worth up to $1,100 before wagering requirements.

PokerStars Casino players can pick an (almost) no-deposit bonus of $100 free bets after making a $1 bet. They can choose a deposit bonus instead.

The 888Casino no-deposit bonus awards players $20 just for signing up for an account. Unlike the PokerStars Casino bonus, players can still take advantage of a first deposit bonus as well.

Caesars Casino gives you $10 upon sign-up. No muss, no fuss.

The Borgata bonus provides a wide contrast. The Borgata no-deposit bonus is $20. The Borgata deposit bonus is 100% up to $1,000.

What is a deposit bonus?

A deposit bonus is any casino bonus that rewards players for depositing money in their casino account.

The most common version of a casino deposit bonus is the matched bonus. This is where the casino offers the player a cash reward (usually) proportional to their first deposit. For example. if a casino offers a 100% bonus up to $250, then the player gets a $200 bonus for a $200 deposit. In this example, if the player deposits more than $250 they just receive the $250 deposit bonus.

Deposit bonuses are normally subject to wagering requirements (also called “playthrough,” “staking,” or “withdrawal” requirements). As previously described, these usually require the player to wager a multiple of the bonus in their own money.

The Best Casino Deposit Bonuses in New Jersey

All these deposit bonuses are subject to various terms and conditions, the major one to check is the playthrough or wagering requirements.

Some of the best deposit bonuses in New Jersey come from:

If PokerStars Casino players prefer a deposit bonus, they can enjoy a 100% match on their first deposit up to $600.

PartyCasino is a relatively modest 100% matched bonus that is capped at $150. As such, it may favor players who are starting from a small bankroll.

“An Excuse to Get Back”: WSOP Thrill Team Brings Vanessa Selbst Back to the Felt

"An Excuse to Get Back": WSOP Thrill Team Brings Vanessa Selbst Back to the Felt

Though she was inducted into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame in December 2022, it has been several years since Vanessa Selbst was last under the poker spotlight. The former PokerStars ambassador and three-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner, arguably the best female poker player in history, left the game in 2018 to pursue a corporate job and start a family.

She now has a successful trading career, a wife, and two young children. But poker isn’t completely in the rear-view mirror for the 39-year-old.

“You can leave poker, but I don’t think poker really ever leaves you,” Selbst said. “It was all I really thought about for a really long time. And so it would be weird if we didn’t still feel that urge sometimes, I think.”

A half-decade removed from professional poker, Selbst recently teamed up with the WSOP as a member of the WSOP Thrill Team, a group of poker ambassadors that includes Finnish poker legend Patrik Antonius and reigning Main Event champion Espen Jorstad, as well as contemporary stars Adam Hendrix, Ethan “Rampage” Yau, Samantha Abernathy and Landon Tice.

As part of the Thrill Team, Selbst will be active on the WSOP’s free-to-play app as poker players around the world get an opportunity to play with the poker icon. Additionally, Selbst will make her return to the WSOP this summer as she plays the Main Event and other tournaments, as she told PokerNews’ Chad Holloway in an interview on this week’s PokerNews Podcast.

“Honestly, I was just looking for an excuse to get back (to poker),” she said. “I’ve been looking for an excuse to get back for a while. I’ve missed it.”

Listen to Vanessa Selbst on the PokerNews Podcast!

A New Vanessa

It would be hard for Selbst to forget about her last World Series. “I think my last World Series of Poker hand that I played was the one (in 2017) that I busted with aces full against quads where I almost folded and I didn’t. And so that was six years ago.”

In the years since the Main Event cooler, Selbst said she has played four live tournaments and gotten to the final three tables in all of them. She finished 14th in the 2019 WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship for $39,950 and 22nd in the 2020 WPT Fallsview Main Event for $14,915.

Despite making deep runs, Selbst couldn’t help but notice she was off her game.

“I know I’m going to play this summer and I can’t have the same expectations for myself that I used to. But obviously, I want to win and I’m really competitive, so I guess we’ll see what happens.”

“Prior me, when I was playing pro, was like I either had all the chips or I busted Day 1,” she said. “And the idea of finishing final two or three tables was like, ‘Oh my god, I am so rusty, I am so off my game.’ That used to be where I had my biggest edge; knowing what everyone was going to do, what mistakes they were going to make, and exploiting them. And I just felt so a little bit out of my comfort zone a bit, with respect to where I used to be … I used to feel so comfortable at that stage of the tournament, like I had such a good chance to win. And in those tournaments, I didn’t feel that, and that’s something I’ve had to come to peace with.”

Selbst was going to start playing a serious live schedule again, but that was before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down poker rooms everywhere. “I was so excited to play, and then I couldn’t.”

But Selbst said being separated from the game has “kept me thirsty” and she is excited to play a light schedule at the 2023 WSOP, noting that “it’s hard to get away (from work and family) during the summer.”

Vanessa Selbst

She has also had to come to terms with the fact that the Vanessa who plays the $10,000 Main Event this summer won’t be the same fearless player who would six-bet jam with pocket fours or three-bluff the river with five-high.

“I know I’m going to play this summer and I can’t have the same expectations for myself that I used to,” Selbst said. “But obviously I want to win and I’m really competitive, so I guess we’ll see what happens.”

Joining the Thrill Team

The WSOP Thrill Team was formed to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the WSOP app, allowing players around the world to play with well-known pros. Selbst called the WSOP app “a great learning tool for beginners,” as well as a way for grinders to get their fix in states without legal and regulated poker.

“Obviously a lot of us waited a long time for regulation to come in the states, it didn’t, and so we’re still waiting, we’re still waiting,” she said. “So we’re looking for our outlets to play.”

Speaking of poker outlets, this summer will mark Selbst’s first WSOP since the series moved from the longtime Rio venue to the Horseshoe Casino on the Strip in 2022. Selbst said she was excited to check out the new venue, noting that “there’s no love lost between me and the Rio.”

“It should be interesting,” she said. “It’s kind of weird. You go so many years, you develop this love-hate relationship with the Rio — it’s mostly hate, but there’s some nostalgia and stuff.”

“I Feel Like It Was My Old Life”

Despite not being involved in the high-stakes poker world for more than a half-decade, Selbst said she “definitely keep(s) an eye on the poker scene.”

“It’s like one of my things that I do for recreation, which there are unfortunately not very many of those things these days,” Selbst laughed. “But I love to watch poker, it’s a lot of fun. The production has gotten so good, the players have gotten good, there’s always some kind of high stakes going on.”

But Selbst added that she’s “not in the thick of it or anything like that” and has for the most part put poker behind her. Her three bracelets are packed away in a box and she said she frequently meets people who don’t even know she had a poker career.

“I feel like it was my old life, like my past life,” she said. “I meet a lot of people now that have no idea about it. And it’s cool … I feel like when I was in poker everybody knew who I was or if they hadn’t met me they had some preconceived notion about me or something like that, whether it was good or bad or whatever … It’s in some ways pretty cool to kind of have this fresh start in some ways.”

Vanessa Selbst
Vanessa Selbst

Still, Selbst remains connected to the poker world in many respects. A few months ago, she was inducted into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame alongside Angelica Hael, Jennifer Tilly and Terry King.

“That was awesome, it was really cool,” Selbst reflected. “There are some really amazing and talented women, both players and industry people in the game that have helped the game grow who are represented there. So it just felt special to be included in that, and a nice reminder of what I had done in poker and that life I had.”

“I meet a lot of people now that have no idea about it. And it’s cool … I feel like when I was in poker everybody knew who I was or if they hadn’t met me they had some preconceived notion about me or something like that.”

And who knows, a good run at the WSOP could lead to Selbst playing bigger events.

“I don’t plan on jumping into those same fields or anything like that, but you never know,” she said. “Maybe I bink my first tournament and I feel like taking a shot at some of the Super High Rollers or something like that.”

To find out more about what Selbst has been up to since retiring from poker, check her out on Twitter at @VanessaSelbst. Download the WSOP app if you want to jump straight into the action with the WSOP Thrill Team.

Best Pennsylvania Casino Sites | PokerNews

If you’re looking for the best casinos in Pennsylvania, we’ve got you covered here at PokerNews. After legalizing online gambling in 2017, Pennsylvania quickly became one of the most important states in the online casino market.

Read on to find out about the best online casinos Pennsylvania has to offer.

The best online casino rewards, promotions and bonus codes in Pennsylvania

There’s plenty of competition for your business in the casino industry. One way the best online casinos vie for your attention is to offer rewards, promotions, and bonus codes to their players.

These can range from a free bet when you sign up to a matched bonus when you deposit or rewards programs for loyal, regular, or prolific players. Below we’ve got more information on the best rewards and offers you can find at online casinos in Pennsylvania but you can also read our full guide to the best online casino bonuses in Pennsylvania.

The best online casino rewards in Pennsylvania

Rewards are how the best online casinos give a little back to their most active customers.

Typically rewards will be tied to the amount a player bets, sometimes weighed by the vig or return to the player of the games the player wagers on. As players unlock rewards they may take the form of free bets, cash, or loot from the company store

The best example of rewards from online casinos in Pennsylvania comes from PokerStars Casino PA.

Players on the PokerStars Casino PA platform earn PokerStars Rewards points based on the amount wagered and the RTP of the games played. Players unlock boxes with randomized rewards. If a player unlocks ten PokerStars Casino boxes in a month, they receive access to a higher level in the next month. Higher-level boxes offer a better range of rewards to keep players climbing those levels.

The best online casino promotions in Pennsylvania

Casino promotions are perks offered by online casinos to attract new players.

The most common promotions are “free” bets and deposit bonuses. A free bet is where the casino will cover any losses on a qualifying bet. The player gets to keep the profit from the bet. Unibet Casino PA offers players a free bet up to $500 after the player’s first deposit.

An example of a bonus is BetMGM’s $1,100 bonus. Players received $100 in their accounts once they sign up. BetMGM also matches the player’s first deposit up to $1,000. To cash out these bonus funds, players then have to wager a certain amount within a set time limit.

The best online casino bonus codes in Pennsylvania

Online casino bonus codes are your passport to collecting some of the best sign-up bonuses, deposit bonuses, and casino rewards in Pennsylvania. When prompted you enter the online casino bonus code and the online casino will activate the relevant bonus.

Is online gambling legal in Pennsylvania?

Gambling is legal in Pennsylvania in many forms.

In fact, Pennsylvania has had legal gambling since 1959 when the state legalized horse racing (some six years before PA even had its own permanent racetracks). The state added a lottery in 1971, bingo in 1981, slots at racetracks in 2004, and full casinos in 2010.

However, it wasn’t until October 26, 2017, when the state legislature passed the unusually named Truck Stop and Satellite Casino Bill that the state finally got legal online gambling. As well as allowing truck stops to host slot machines, the bill also legalized online casinos in the state for the first time.

Since 2017, then the answer to the question “Is online gambling legal in Pennsylvania?” has been a resounding yes.

FanDuel Casino: FanDuel started life as one of the biggest fantasy sports sites in the US. Naturally, as legal sportsbetting expanded in the US, FanDuel branched out eventually adding casino games to its list of verticals.

PokerStars Casino:
PokerStars is the biggest name in online poker. After bringing poker to PA in 2019, a casino client soon followed. A slick front end and integrated poker games and sports betting are key selling points.

BetMGM Casino: BetMGM comes with all the high-quality customer service you would expect from such an established brand. Easy withdrawals and smooth troubleshooting are just some of the perks.

Unibet Casino: Unibet is one of the oldest names in online gambling. As a result, the casino comes with a huge range of slots and table games, including live dealer games and “first person” roulette.

Caesars Casino: Caesars is one of the most iconic brands in the world of retail gambling. Players on the online site can look forward to tie-in promotions with Harrah’s PA—one of Caesar’s brick-and-mortar sites in Pennsylvania.

What casino games can I play in Pennsylvania?

Whatever your preferred casino game is, there is an excellent chance you’ll be able to find it in online Pennsylvania.

Not only can you find classic table games like baccarat and blackjack but you can also find more exotic offerings like European roulette and modern twists like four-card poker. Some sites offer live dealer games to supplement the digital offerings and there are almost endless variations of slot games.

All are available at the best online casinos in Pennsylvania.

Play Blackjack online in Pennsylvania

Blackjack, also known as 21, is the classic card game in which players attempt to beat the dealer’s score without going over 21 points. The fast pace, simple rules, and small house edge have made this a popular game with gamblers over the years.

Nowadays, you can find plenty of variations on the classic game. Some variations are purely cosmetic (like Pittsburgh Steelers Blackjack) while others add side bets or small rule changes (like Perfect Blackjack or Blackjack Millionaire).

Any legal online casino in Pennsylvania worth its salt will have plenty of options, for punters to explore.

Play Roulette online in Pennsylvania

Roulette is one of the oldest casino games with variations dating back to at least the 1720s. The house spins a numbered wheel and tosses a ball into the vortex. Players bet on where the ball will land. Bets can be on an individual number or larger categories such as odd or even, red or black, or 1-12.

The simple setup and pleasing visuals of the table make live dealer roulette a very popular game. That same simplicity tends to limit the variations of roulette that are available in online casinos in Pennsylvania.

Play Craps online in Pennsylvania

Craps is the quintessential casino dice game. In Pennsylvania, you can find craps on most major online casino sites.

Casino craps is adapted from a player v. player version of the game. The casino version allows players to make a wide variety of bets on the outcome of paired die rolls.

For players who miss the frenetic action of a live craps table, plenty of online casinos offer live feeds of brick-and-mortar tables on which you can bet.

Play Baccarat online in Pennsylvania

Similar to blackjack, players receive two cards and attempt to get higher points than the dealer.

Baccarat has a reputation for high-stakes action in southern Europe and Macau. James Bond is introduced to us for the first time at the baccarat table in both the books and film series.

Luckily when playing at an online casino, you don’t have to risk a fortune (or your life). There are plenty of stakes available for all bankrolls.

What casino slots can you play in Pennsylvania?

The average slot has a series of reels with different symbols on them. The player spins the reels and wins payouts based on whether the symbols that land on the reels match. From this simple formula, tens of thousands of games have been born.

At the best online casinos in Pennsylvania, slot machines come in every shape and size. There are slots that try to mimic the earliest one-armed bandits to movie-themed slots with multiple bonus games for the luckiest players to enjoy.

The main popularity of slots is their fast-paced action and the ability to pick and choose a slot that is to your taste.

The best online slots to play in Pennsylvania

What makes the best slot will vary from player to player, but there are a few key factors to bear in mind.

The most important factor when choosing the best casino slot for you is the return to player (RTP). RTP is the average amount of money the slot pays out expressed as a percentage. An RTP of 95% means for every $1.00 in bets, the machine pays out $0.95. The higher the RTP, the better your odds.

The second most important factor is volatility. High-volatility slots will tend to pay out less often, but the rewards are bigger on average when they do. Low volatility slots pay out smaller prizes, more often.

You’ll also want to look for themes that entertain you or a vibe that matches your preferences.

PokerNews Book Review: Robbi Jade Lew’s “If I Did It”; Movie Adaptation in the Works?

PokerNews Book Review: Robbi Jade Lew’s "If I Did It"; Movie Adaptation in the Works?

In late February, I was shocked to learn that I would be receiving an advanced copy of a book titled If I Did It written by Robbi Jade Lew. As it was pitched to me, it was a book that gives a purely hypothetical account of how Lew would have cheated on Hustler Casino Live (HCL) in the now infamous jack-four hand against Garrett Adelstein.

Obviously, I couldn’t resist, and now having read her “hypothetical” account of what was arguably 2022’s biggest poker story, I must confess I’m more confused than ever as to whether or not she actually did it.

Robbi Jade Lew Releases “If I Did It” Book Addressing J4 Cheating Allegations

Last year, Lew chatted with me in a video interview for PokerNews, and at the time I was giving her the benefit of the doubt. Innocent until proven guilty and all that. In the months that followed, I went back and forth, at times certain something nefarious happened such as when it was revealed that Bryan Sagbigsal stole $15K off her stack, but at other times feeling she was an innocent victim, such as when HCL released their investigative report that did not find her definitively guilty (though it was inconclusive).

Having read If I Did It, the only thing I’m sure of is that we’ll probably never know what really happened, but that if she did do it, she probably did it in such a way as described in the book.

Inspires More Questions Than Answers

Lew took a page straight out of the playbook of OJ Simpson, and I don’t mean his football playbook. If I Did It is a direct rip of the 2007 book If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer, in which Simpson put forth a “hypothetical” description of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. Presumably, what Lew says in the book is all “hypothetical,” but it will no doubt leave others thinking otherwise.

Take for instance her “hypothetical” about being a part of a signaling team highlighted in Chapter 6 titled “There is No ‘I’ in Team, but There is ‘Me” in which Lew said: “Poker is an individual game, but when individuals get together it gives them an edge. At least that’s how it was put to me, or would have been put to me when individuals approached me with an opportunity. From there, it would have been easy to get someone on the crew to join up, say by paying them $15,000, and then as long as someone didn’t mess it up by making an inexplicable call, everything would be good. Or so I imagine because of course I didn’t do it.”

Robbi Jade Lew Book
Robbi Jade Lew’s book is at select bookstores now.

Another headscratcher was Lew hypothetically talking about what would have been going through her head during the hand. As she wrote in the first person:

“I was thinking this is the hand I’m going to get Garrett. He’s always raising with low-suited cards so I’m putting him on the {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}, which my {j-Clubs}{4-Hearts} beats so let’s rock and roll. The {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} flop isn’t great for me as he has an open-ended straight flush draw, which makes him a 70% favorite. However, Bryan over there turned his hat around. That’s strange, but I can’t worry about that right now. I’m going to call. The {3-Hearts} turn is great, Garrett missed and my ‘gut’ tells me he has the {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}, so I’m going to raise his $10,000 bet to $20,000.

“Any resemblance to actual events is purely coincidental. I didn’t cheat, but if I did, this is how I would have done it.”

She continued: “My old min-raise on the turn trick ought to work well right now. Oh wait, Garrett moved all in for $129K. Easy call-off as my jack-high beats eight-seven, especially since Bryan has turned his hat around again. Still, we’d better run it twice because I don’t have anything to be afraid of. First run out is me, second one too. Ship mama the money!”

For me, it’s the little bizarre details that she chooses to include that really lead readers into nebulous territory. Why include the details about Bryan, who is apparently Bryan Sagbigsal, turning his hat around? Random coincidence, or telling admission? Or is it Lew just having fun and messing with the poker world?

“Remember, none of this actually happened,” Lew pointed out. “Any resemblance to actual events is purely coincidental. I didn’t cheat, but if I did, this is how I would have done it. But I didn’t, that’s important.”

Is a Movie in the Works?

Robbi Jade Lew

There’s no doubt Robbi Jade Lew has been able to use the whole debacle to her benefit. Seven months ago, few in the poker world knew who she was, but now everyone does and she even has a hand – “The Robbi” – named after her. Players around the world have been going wild with jack-four.

She’s also gone from playing modest stakes to playing higher stakes, bigger buy-in tournaments, and competing against some of the biggest names in the game like Phil Hellmuth. She also accepted a Global Poker Award for the fan’s choice for “Hand of the Year.”

Now, she has a book that is reportedly already being optioned for a feature film.

“We’re actually in talks with a studio right now,” Lew confirmed to PokerNews. “I can’t share too many details, and it’s all very preliminary right now, but the hope is that Angelina Jolie or Sabrina Carpenter would play me, John C. Reilly would play Garrett, and Michael Chiklis would play Eric Persson. I don’t know if it will happen, but it would be fun. Nick Vertucci is going to be a producer.”

While speaking with Lew, I couldn’t help but ask: “So, Robbi, did you do it? For real?”

She let slip a little grin and responded, “Well, you’ll just have to read the book, because if I did, that’s how I would’ve done it.”

3 Must-read SCOOP Satellite Strategy Tips

3 Must-read SCOOP Satellite Strategy Tips

The PokerStars Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) is one of the busiest and most exciting periods on the poker tournament calendar, with the best poker tournaments PokerStars has to offer, boasting massive prize pools. Although SCOOP events come with a wide range of buy-in options, the best online poker events often command large buy-ins that are outside of the constraints of most players’ bankrolls.

With that in mind, it is no surprise that thousands of PokerStars players flock to SCOOP satellites hoping to turn a small investment into the chance to play in the most exciting poker games the poker world offers. It is not only recreational players that get their grind on in SCOOP satellites, but members of Team PokerStars look to massively increase their Return On Investment (ROI) by winning seats and tickets to high-stakes poker games.

PokerNews has a plethora of satellite tournament poker strategy articles on our site, but the following three tips come straight from PokerStars’ blog, meaning they are 100% worthwhile committing to memory and applying to your game if you dream of playing in the most exciting poker games at PokerStars during SCOOP.

What Is the PokerStars Spring Championship Of Online Poker?

Benjamin Spragg

SCOOP is the acronym for the Spring Championship Of Online Poker, a series that pays out millions of dollars each year. In 2022, the SCOOP awarded more than $75 million in prize money, making it one of the richest poker festivals online.

Many grinders see the SCOOP as the perfect warm-up for the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas because the schedule is packed with other poker games such as Pot-Limit Omaha, Seven Card Stud, and 2-7 Triple Draw in addition to No-Limit Texas Hold’em.

The SCOOP always features some huge weekly tournaments, usually on Tuesdays, Thursday, and Sunday, which are traditionally the three busiest days for a poker site. The entire stable of Team PokerStars Pro members takes to the felt throughout the series, hoping to bag a big score and a coveted SCOOP title.

Don’t Blow Your Tournament Bubble

Stay Focused on the Bubble

Many that play tournament poker online often struggle when making the switch to satellites because, although the two poker games look strikingly similar, the strategy needed to succeed is worlds apart. For example, there is no sliding scale of prizes in a satellite tournament because you either win a ticket or seat or you do not. This fact alone means that you need to pay more attention than usual when you are approaching the bubble in a SCOOP satellite.

It is imperative that you are not the unfortunate soul that pops the bubble. In a standard cash-awarding tournament, you can afford to play aggressively on the bubble because you want to finish as high up the payouts as possible, especially because most of a tournament’s prize money is awarded to the top three finishers. However, you win the same prize in a satellite regardless of whether you have a 1,000,000-chip stack or a single chip in your stack when the bubble pops.

Be prepared to fold your way into the prizes, which may feel unnatural if you are used to playing online, but it is the correct thing to do, especially if you have a large stack and are almost guaranteed to win a seat for one of the online tournament series events.

Tighten Up Your Play

Lex Veldhuis
Even the loose-aggressive Lex Veldhuis tightens up when playing satellites

With the previous SCOOP satellite tip fresh in your mind, it makes sense the next hint revolves around tightening up your play. You should play poker in a tight-aggressive style throughout a satellite, but edge towards playing overly tight, if anything. Of course, you should still focus on accumulating chips, but survival is the ultimate aim of the game.

Tighten up the range of hands you play preflop. For example, you may want to pretend that middle position is early position when you are considering opening for a raise. Ideally, you want an even stronger hand than usual to open the pot when compared to a traditional poker tournament.

Playing tight is particularly important when it comes to calling raises preflop an even more so when an opponent moves all-in. Even Team PokerStars Pro Lex Veldhuis, a player who is notorious for playing loose-aggressive poker, will not call an all-in bet lightly because the risk of busting out and missing out on a seat for the best online tournament series outweighs winning the pot.

Work Your Big Stack

Sam Grafton
Few players weild a big stack as efficiently as Sam Grafton

Although everyone gets the same prize regardless of where they finish in the payout places, and it doesn’t matter if you have one chip or a million chips at your disposal, being in possession of a big stack is a great position to find yourself in when playing satellites. While it is true you should play poker satellites in a tight style, you should also utilize your big stack against players you have a chance of busting from the tournament.

Use controlled aggression to place your opponents under maximum pressure whenever you clash with them. Being able to eliminate an opponent without them able to bust you is a fantastic scenario to be in. However, do not needlessly splash around in pots because you can quickly go from a big stack bully to the player being bullied.

Some Key Takeaways

Here is a list of key takeaways when looking at SCOOP satellite strategy:

  • Avoid calling all-ins – It’s always better to be the one shoving
  • Take the lower variance lines – tighten up and play for a seat and not for the win
  • Fold equity is the most important form of equity
  • Work out what the average stack on the bubble is, and keep that in mind at all times
  • Tighten up completely when a seat looks inevitable
  • Practise with play money games if needed before you join real money games
  • Always play responsibly and within your bankroll’s limits

888poker: Ask Yourself These Questions Before Calling A River Bet!

888poker: Ask Yourself These Questions Before Calling A River Bet!

Facing big river bets can be a daunting experience, especially if you are new to poker. Luckily 888poker ambassador Alexandre “Cavalito” Mantovani has shared some top tips about what questions to ask yourself when you find yourself in these situations.

So be sure to watch the video and read the article to know what to do when facing important river spots.

Does My Opponent Value-Bet a Worse Hand?

This should always be your first question when facing a bet on the river. Would your opponent only bet the nuts, or do they do this with all their other value hands?

Basically, if our opponent could be value betting worse hands than ours in this situation, then you have a crystal clear call, which will be profitable in the long run, even if you’re not right this time.

Remember that your opponents may not usually play or think as you do, so you can’t just think about how you would play in that situation. If you do, then that is a big mistake. Consider how your opponent has been playing and use your personal reads to make better decisions in that scenario.

Is This River Spot Easy for My Opponent to Over-Bluff?

It is difficult to get into your opponent’s head to judge how often they will bluff. However, there are some instances that are more straighforward for both professional and recreational players to bluff a bit more than they should.

Take the situation where our opponent has to bet the flop and the turn, and the river is an ace, and they bet again. The ace is a good example of a scary card but ask yourself if they would’ve bet the flop and turn with a hand that hits the ace on the river. Would they have played it like they have and opened themselves up to being raised off the pot and having to fold the flop or the turn?

If you think your opponent will get more aggressive on specific runouts, you should be willing to call more often.

Do I Block My Opponent’s Value Range?

Blockers are cards that make it statistically less likely your opponent has a specific hand. Blockers are very relevant in poker and even more so for river decisions because that’s where we have the most information and where the ranges are most defined.

If your hand has cards that interact with the hand your opponent would bet for value, you should be more inclined to call. If you’re holding certain cards, they are less likely to be at the top of their range.

If your hand interacts with the cards your opponent would have to bluff with, you should fold more as it is less likely they are bluffing.

Do I Have a Specific Read on this Opponent?

Understanding poker concepts and theories is essential, but poker is still a game of logic and people. Sometimes you’re facing an opponent that you have a lot of information on, and maybe you know that specific player likes to bluff when the flush gets there, for example.

Maybe you’ve seen them do it a few times and have tagged them with a note about it. Even if there is some evidence that they might not be bluffing here, it’s okay to go with your reads on occasion.

Poker is a complex game, and most of the time, we don’t have enough information. Knowing what our opponents do on rivers is tough because it doesn’t happen often. You should carefully evaluate all the information available and then make decisions based on that and sometimes we have to use our reads.

Top Tips That Are Perfect for 888poker’s Daily PLO Mystery Bounty Tournaments

Are There Any Other Aspects in Play?

Be aware of all the dynamics in play when facing a river bet. If you’re up against a river bet in a deep-stacked cash game is not the same as facing a river bet in different poker situations. If you’re playing a bounty tournament with a huge stack and your opponent with a big bounty is moving all in, you can be more flexible in how light you call.

On the other hand, imagine you’re playing a final table and have a good stack but the chip leader puts you all in while some short stacks are at the table, you should be very conservative about calling.

It’s not always just about the cards and your reads. You should be aware of all the dynamics in play.

Robbi Jade Lew Releases “If I Did It” Book Addressing J4 Cheating Allegations

Robbi Jade Lew Releases "If I Did It" Book Addressing J4 Cheating Allegations

Less than a week removed from Garrett Adelstein’s highly-publicized interview with Doug Polk, the target of his cheating allegations, Robbi Jade Lew, has revealed the release of her new book, If I Did It. The timing may seem too good to be true, but the book has actually been in the works for months.

“I actually began working on this book almost immediately after the jack-four hand and subsequent fallout,” Lew told PokerNews, who received advanced copies of the book in February. “So many people think that I cheated, and while I won’t say they’re right, I would never say such a thing, I thought it would be fun to write a book about how I would have cheated if I’d actually done it. Which I didn’t.”

“If I had cheated, I wouldn’t have given Garrett back half the money.”

The book, which has a forward written by the legendary Doyle Brunson, borrows the title of the highly-controversial 2007 book If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer by O.J. Simpson, in which Simpson puts forth a “hypothetical” description of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.

The book, which officially hit shelves today, begins by recapping the events of September 29, 2022, which is the day Lew called Adelstein’s all-in turn bet with just jack-four-high and won a pot worth $269,000. What followed could only be described as something straight out of a movie as a shell-shocked Adelstein left the table, Lew followed and ultimately gave Adelstein back half the pot, and the latter left the venue while expressing concern that he had been cheated.

“If I had cheated, I wouldn’t have given Garrett back half the money,” Lew wrote. “That right there should prove my innocence. If I did it, I not only would’ve kept the money, but I also would have continued to clean up in the game.”

In the weeks and months following the broadcast, there were lie detector tests, Joey Ingram investigation streams, and articles galore from poker and non-poker media sites. In the end, it is hard to know if we got the truth about what happened. Now, Lew is sharing her truth.

What to Expect

The book is fraught with hypotheticals, which critics will no doubt construe as admissions of guilt. For instance, Chapter Three is titled, “What If B.S. Was My Inside Man?” and is full of very interesting takes from Lew.

On page 46, it reads, “Every great heist requires a team of people chosen for their gifts or network. Someone like an inside man, for simplicity’s sake, let’s call such a person B.S. If I was looking to cheat in a live-streamed game, I would befriend someone like B.S. and strike some sort of deal such as paying a flat fee for information or possibly offering a cut of any profits.

She continued: “I would also need someone at the table to be in on the scheme, maybe another player. Hypothetically, I would have B.S. signal the other player at the table, who could in turn signal me whenever I held the best hand. However, because of the high security and protocols at Hustler Casino Live (HCL) such things could never happen, which is further proof of my innocence.”

Similarly, in Chapter Nine, which is titled “Getting Away with It,” Lew goes into shocking details that will no doubt leave readers questioning whether or not she really did do it.

Robbi Jade Lew book
If I Did It available at select book stores.

“Okay, so we’ve made hero call after hero call with biting commentary toward all of the players throughout the night. If we are going to get away with it, the last thing we need is someone to call us out as someone who just couldn’t make a mistake. If someone with no following calls us out, we just smile and act like it doesn’t phase us. If Garrett says something, that’s an entirely different situation. The last thing we want to do is get under Garrett’s skin. We have to keep Garrett calm and happy at all costs otherwise we won’t get invited back to the game.”

It was keeping Garrett happy with the hope of being invited back for future streams that Lew gave him back half the pot, or so she claims.

“Giving Garrett back $135,000 in the hallway was my way of trying to get back into his good graces so I could return to HCL,” Lew explained. “Because I had a good thing going at HCL, a REALLY good thing, so I just wanted to smooth things over and avoid any fallout.

What Comes Next?

While the drama of jack-four was seemingly over, Lew’s book is no doubt going to reignite the debate as to what Lew may or may not have been thinking leading up to and after the hand came to an end.

Lew had a few additional comments she shared about this book and what’s next.

“So, the opportunity to confess my crime – which I 100% did not commit – is like being baptized and reborn into the poker world.”

“It really feels good to get all of this off of my chest. I mean if I did it, which of course I didn’t. But yeah if I did it, I would probably have all this guilt and shame on my shoulders with not many people willing to hear me out or sympathize with the situation. So, the opportunity to confess my crime – which I 100% did not commit – is like being baptized and reborn into the poker world.

She added: “Goodbye $500 buy-in events and hello high stakes. Global Poker Award, yes please. Garrett, if you ever want to hold the award let’s get together for dinner and let bygones be bygones. I didn’t do it, but if I did it, this book explains exactly how I guess I might have done it.”

Robbi Jade Lew’s “If I Did It” is officially released today wherever poker books tend to be sold. If you’re lucky enough to find a copy, be sure to bring it to this year’s World Series of Poker (WSOP) as Lew has confirmed she will be hosting special signings throughout Vegas. PokerNews will continue to update this story throughout the day as the poker community responds until 11:59 pm PT.
