How Many Decks are Used in Blackjack? Understanding the Role of Deck Quantity

By Louis Wheeler

Blackjack is a popular card game that is played at casinos all over the world. One of the key elements of the game is the deck, or decks, of cards that are used to play. In this article, we will explore how many decks are used in blackjack and why this number can vary.

To begin with, it’s important to understand the basic rules of blackjack. The goal of the game is to beat the dealer by having a hand with a value as close to 21 as possible without going over. Players are dealt two cards, and the dealer is dealt one face-up card and one face-down card. Players have the option to “hit” and receive additional cards in an effort to improve their hand, or to “stand” and keep their current hand. The dealer follows a set of rules known as the “house rules” to determine when to hit and when to stand.

Now, let’s delve into the specifics of the deck. In a traditional game of blackjack, a standard deck of 52 cards is used. This means that there are four suits (hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades) with 13 cards in each suit (2 through 10, plus the face cards jack, queen, king, and ace). In some versions of the game, multiple decks are used, with the number of decks varying from one to eight.

When is it Quittin’ time?

When is it Quittin’ time?

When is it Quittin’ time?

By Frank Scoblete

At any point in your contest with the casino you could be in any one of the following situations:

  • You are way ahead and feeling like the true champion of the world.
  • You are way behind, in short, you’re taking an absolute beating
  • You are a little or somewhat ahead, not bad.
  • You are a little or somewhat behind, not good.
  • You are even or about even, you have plenty for another session sometime later or tomorrow.
  • You’re tired.

Stadium Blackjack: Friend or Foe?

Stadium Blackjack: Friend or Foe?

By Nicholas Colon

As casinos move more and more toward automation gaming I’d like to review how the stadium version of Blackjack works. Here we will go over how this variant of the game works and more importantly how the community cards are utilized to settle the hands.

First we will review and summarize the rules of Stadium Blackjack. I’ll go through a sample hand and show you how the community cards are dealt and utilized by the players’ and the dealer. Rule 5 and 6 are particularly important. The key points have been bolded and put in italics.

A Look at Blackjack Side Bet Games

A Look at Blackjack Side Bet Games

By John Grochowski

Blackjack at its heart is a game for patient, methodical players with a low house edge and a good shot to win for those who know when to hit, stand, split and double down.

Casinos need to appeal to jackpot hunters too, and that’s where blackjack side bets such as Blazing 777 Blackjack or Perfect and Pairs come into play. House edges are higher than on the basic game, but offer the chance at big, quick payoffs.

There are dozens of side bets available. You’ll find more of them in online casinos than in live play, but they pop up in the brick-and-mortar places, too.

White Collar Boxing UK ᗎ Top Events and Fierce Fights

A Man Holding a Stopwatch

White Collar Boxing History

Before we provide you with extra details about white-collar boxing and its origins, we would like to tell you what this type of boxing stands for briefly. First of all, the name of the competition suggests that it’s a bit different from professional or amateur boxing. White-collar boxing allows non-professionals – people who work regular jobs (the so-called “white collars”), to enter the world of boxing.

They can participate in special boxing tournaments and championships that are specially organised for people who have not been fighting or have fought a bit. White-collar boxing allows ordinary workers to step into the ring and test their will and strengths as boxers. On the other hand, being able to watch unskilled people fight also provokes huge interest among viewers and gamblers, etc.

White-collar boxing appeared in New York and has been associated with the Gleason’s Gym. In the late 1980s, the owner of the gym started to organise informal matches between the white-collar workers who used to train at the gym. However, this soon developed into regular events held every month. Later, in the 1990s, thanks to promoter Alan Lacey and his organisation, these events came to prominence.

Maybe the first white-collar boxing event that provoked greater interest and enjoyed huge media coverage was “Capital Punishment”. It was held at Broadgate Arena in London in July 2000. Back then, a team of Wall Street bankers flew to the UK to take part in the tournament. Since then, more than 100 similar competitions have taken place, and more than £1.5 million has been raised for different charities.

Are White Collar Boxing Fights Regulated?

Since white-collar boxing fights became extremely popular and turned out to be very profitable, too, the necessity of specific regulations emerged. Of course, organising specific sports events where non-professionals fight against each other hides a risk. Therefore, to be legit, these competitions need to have established rules, regulations and specific codes that make everything legal and clear.

And the good news is that since white-collar boxing started to gain popularity and to be officially organised, regulations were put into effect. In 2001, the International White Collar Boxing Association (IWCBA) was founded. Later, in 2007, another organisation started to operate as well – the World White Collar Boxing Association (WWCBA).

The IWCBA uses the same weight divisions as professional boxing. Besides, a special division belt is being awarded to the champions of each category. The IWCBA tournaments also require the presence of professional doctors, anaesthetists, as well as paramedics. Thorough medical checks of the fighters are also required.

🏢 WCB Regulatory Organisations ✔️ Foundation
International White Collar Boxing Association (IWCBA) 2001
World White Collar Boxing Association (WWCBA) 2007

Over 1500 bouts have been held under the hat of the IWCBA, with the most serious injuries during the fights being only bloody noses. The other organisation – (WWCBA), was founded in London, UK. It also promotes and regulates different white-collar boxing fights around the globe. However, the Asia–Pacific region appears to be its main focus area.

The organisation has specific rules and guidelines that help boxers become ranked nationally, regionally and globally, allowing them to compete for other championship titles as well. An interesting fact is that the WWCBA also collaborates with another prominent boxing organisation – the International Boxing Association (AIBA), which helps it establish better standards.

White Collar Boxing Rules

Since white-collar boxing in the UK and other parts of the world became officially recognised, specific major elements had to be outlined. The boxing matches are now regulated by official organisations and, therefore, they need to follow specific rules. And every white-collar boxing event has specific rules that follow the general rules that were accepted for these types of competitions.

In its essence, white-collar boxing is a safer version of professional boxing and has a much lower impact. Therefore, the rules need to be oriented toward keeping the contendents as secure as possible because most of them are not professionals. Therefore in this guide about white-collar boxing in the UK, we will provide you with more useful details.

🏁 White Collar Boxing Rules 📊 Data
Number of Rounds 3
Rounds Duration 2 Minutes
Head Protection Mandatory

In white-collar boxing, contendents also wear protective helmets to decrease the risk of more serious injuries. Such helmets used to be part of the rules in amateur boxing, but in 2013, AIBA voted to remove the mandatory headgear for amateur elite male boxers. Yet another thing that is essential for white-collar boxing is that there is no knockout rule.

What is a White Collar Boxing Match?

White-collar boxing in the UK is popular nowadays, and many people are eager to watch those interesting events. A white-collar boxing match is a fighting competition that confronts two contendents that are non-professional boxers. The matches that you can watch at the white-collar boxing competitions are shorter, though. The boxers have only two minutes per round (up to three rounds) to fight against each other.

The white-collar boxing matches are known to be more “light”. This means that the contendents are not exposed to such a big risk as professional boxers are. In a white-collar match, you are more likely not to see a knockout as strict safety measures are put in place.

Currently, many betting sites that also offer TikTok vs YouTube boxing betting have included white-collar betting as well. Still, mixed martial arts are getting more popular than the previous two sports. Keep in mind, though, that there is a slight difference between boxing vs MMA betting. However, both white-collar matches and MMA bouts bring great excitement.

White Collar Boxing Rounds

The white-collar boxing fights are quick as the rounds are fewer and much shorter. However, this does not mean that they are less exciting. Many people are eager to watch quick bouts between non-professionals as the outcome may be unpredictable. This is also the reason why many punters choose to access the best UK betting sites and place wagers on the most interesting matches from the Ultra White Collar Boxing or the Ultimate White Collar competition.

The main factor that differentiates white-collar boxing from professional boxing is the number of rounds. According to the white-collar boxing rules, there are only three rounds of two minutes per round. In comparison, in professional boxing, as was the match between Wilder and Fury, there are 12 rounds of three minutes, which is a significant difference.

White Collar Boxing Training

As you already know, the participants in the white-collar boxing matches are not professional fighters who still want to experience the excitement of a real fight but in a much safer environment. These events allow people with non or fewer skills to feel the taste of the real fights.

At the same time, people who want to participate in white-collar boxing matches can train before the shows and improve their skills. Organisations such as Ultra White Collar Boxing or Ultimate White Collar Boxing allow ordinary people to register and start training sessions in specified gyms. The training is led by professional trainers so that future contendents can gain some experience before the matches.

Who Can Get into the Ring?

According to the white-collar boxing rules, anyone can participate as long as they are at least 21 years old in the US and at least 18 years old in the UK. Besides, white-collar boxing organisations in the UK pay serious attention to safety which has always been a top priority before and throughout the matches.

Therefore, people who want to join are advised to make sure that they don’t have any injuries or health problems that may put them at risk. This is why strict medical checks are also conducted before the matches as well. During the events, the fighters’ safety is watched over by the referees and the medical teams carefully.

The Ultra White Collar Boxing Competition

Ultra White Collar Boxing is among the leading promotion organisations in the UK that organise matches of this rank. What is interesting is that the organisation also raises charities for cancer research in the UK. The Ultra White, Collar Boxing competitions are popular because they offer excellent entertainment. Still, at the same time, the events follow a specific cause, and many of the revenues are used for different charities around the UK.

A Man Throwing His Bare Fist

The promotion company organises matches in various locations around the UK. The organisation also offers free training to those who want to try out the white-collar boxing experience. Currently, thanks to its events, the organisation boasts nearly £24,489,292 donated for cancer research, raised by more than 190,652 fundraisers.

WCB – The Conclusion

Without a doubt, white-collar boxing is a trend that has gained huge popularity in countries like the US and the UK. And what makes it so interesting is the fact that it allows ordinary people to get in touch with the world of boxing and experience the real thrill of the fights. White-collar boxing also provokes great interest among people who like this sport as well as many bettors.

What is a white-collar boxing match in the UK?

This is a boxing match where the contendents who step into the ring are non-professionals. These are usually ordinary British people with regular jobs who are still interested in boxing and want to take part in real fights. There are special white-collar boxing rules that aim at keeping the fighters as safe as possible.

Why is it called white-collar boxing?

This is because these events refer to the possibility of the so-called white collars, who are working-class people participating in legally organised matches. In the officially organised and regulated events in the UK, only people aged between 18 and 55 can participate. This is because the people who step into the ring are not professional fighters.

Hustler Casino Live, Angela Jordison Get Recognition at 4th Annual Global Poker Awards

Hustler Casino Live, Angela Jordison Get Recognition at 4th Annual Global Poker Awards

The fourth annual Global Poker Awards, presented by the Global Poker Index, took place at the PokerGO Studio Friday night with 27 trophies handed out, including Hustler Casino Live predictably winning Favorite Live Stream.

Angela Jordison (lead picture) was also one of the big winners on the night even though she narrowly lost out on GPI Female Player of the Year to Cherish Andrews.

Jordison, a long-time cash game player in Oregon, took down the Breakout Player of the Year award, deserved recognition for a year in which she cashed for nearly $600,000 in live tournaments, including a career best $151,544 score for third place in a $1,000 no-limit hold’em tournament at the 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP).

If you thought her 2022 run was a fluke, she’s already proven that inaccurate as Jordison has racked up $137,000 in cashes thus far in 2023, according to Hendon Mob.

Join your fellow PokerNews readers in our Discord server, where you’ll find exclusive offers, special freerolls, and all the latest poker-related news and tournament live updates.

Hustler Casino Live on Center Stage

There was no shock and awe when Hustler Casino Live was announced as the winner for Favorite Live Stream. The Los Angeles-based show, which launched from Hustler Casino in 2021, has completely taken over the live-streamed poker industry the past couple of years.

Half of March Madness Game Venues Are in States Without Sports Betting Markets

Basketball with a March Madness logo

Missing the train

Several states are set to miss out on the sports betting benefits that come during the fast-approaching March Madness.

over $6bn will be wagered on this year’s tournament

Seven of the 14 venues chosen to host March Madness games are in states that do not allow locals to wager on sports. That’s quite the blow, considering that early estimates project over $6bn will be wagered on this year’s tournament, a near 100% increase on the $3.1bn estimate in the build-up to the 2022 event.

Could this be a frame-shift moment for local lawmakers that get to witness firsthand the effects of an absent sports betting market, or could it further the divide between lawmakers? The answer will soon be known.

March Madness meets sports betting

March Madness does not just happen in one venue. It is spread all across the United States and then consolidates for the Final Four and championship game.

These are the locations where March Madness 2023 games will be held:

States with legal sports betting

  • Dayton, OH
  • Des Moines, IA
  • Albany, NY
  • Columbus, OH
  • Denver, CO
  • Las Vegas, NV
  • New York, NY

States without legal sports betting

  • Birmingham, AL
  • Orland, FL
  • Sacramento, CA
  • Greensboro, NC
  • Kansas City, MO
  • Louisville, KY
  • Houston, TX

Both Final Four games and the national championship will be held in Houston, Texas, where sports betting is illegal. If there was a legal sports betting system in place, the Lone Star state would likely recoup millions of dollars in proceeds from taxable sportsbook revenue.

A similar situation played out in California in 2022 when the Los Angeles Rams met the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI in Inglewood. Pre-game estimates suggested that $7bn would be wagered on that championship bout.

California managed to push two pro-sports betting amendments known as Proposition 26 and Proposition 27 to the November 2022 ballot a little over half a year after Super Bowl LVI. However, both measures failed resoundingly and led to sports betting companies taking nearly half a billion dollars in losses from their lobbying efforts.

Legislative changes on the horizon

Sports betting is legal in 72% (36) of all states, which makes it even more noticeable that half of the upcoming March Madness hosts won’t be servicing their guests with sports betting options. That does not mean, though, that there is no movement in any of those states.

Missouri, for example, is busy seeking change. A coalition of professional sports team owners and executives and sportsbook officials are busy pushing lawmakers to amend the laws and create a sports betting legal market.

Governor Greg Abbott said that he would not be opposed to hearing plans

Texas is also showing a stronger likelihood to listen to sports betting amendments than ever before. Governor Greg Abbott said that he would not be opposed to hearing plans for legislative changes, although he does not outright support sports betting, while former Governor Rick Perry recently joined a sports betting movement called the Texas Sports Betting Alliance.

Two bills were introduced to the Texas legislature recently, but Lt. Governor Dan Patrick has long said that he will kill any attempts to legalize sports betting.

On February 27, Kentucky also introduced a bill that would legalize retail and online sports betting. Representative Michael Meredith, who filed HB 551, said that it would let the state reap the benefits of an illegal gambling market worth an estimated $1bn annually.

March Madness runs from March 14 to April 3. Games will be played at nine locations in the first six days before condensing to five venues over the final two weeks.

A gambling white paper by Easter would be a turn-up for the books | Travel & leisure

The weariness was palpable as members of campaign group Gambling With Lives gathered in the Churchill Room at the House of Commons last Wednesday. The group, founded by bereaved parents whose children took their own lives after a struggling with a gambling addiction, has been waiting six years for an overhaul of UK betting laws. During this time, co-founders Liz and Charles Ritchie have met 12 ministers with responsibility for gambling policy.

A white paper outlining a proposed shakeup, promised since December 2020, has been repeatedly postponed, to the dismay of addiction clinicians and campaigners, who say despairing addicts are being failed by the current lax regulation.

But the wait may soon be over. New culture secretary Lucy Frazer (in the job just three weeks) promised the assembled families an overhaul of Labour’s ill-fated 2005 Gambling Act “soon”. They have heard that pledge many times, but Whitehall sources insist the white paper could, with a fair tailwind, be published before Easter. So what could it bring for Britain’s £10bn gambling industry, its customers and the people some would call its victims?

Maximum stakes on online slot machines, which are associated with elevated addiction rates, are likely to be restricted to between £2 and £5, bringing them into line with high street machines. Dan Waugh, of gambling research group Regulus Partners, says some operators, conscious of increased scrutiny, have already reduced the maximum stake. “It will be a revenue and profit hit, but less than it would have been a few years ago,” he says.

Reformist MPs believe they have won the political argument for a statutory levy on operators to fund addiction research, education and treatment, despite misgivings among some Tories about earmarked taxation. If the levy goes ahead at a suggested 1% of revenue, it would cost firms about £100m a year and mark a bruising defeat for lobbyists who had proposed an enhanced version of current voluntary contributions.

There is still uncertainty about some of the most important battles, however. An early draft suggested bookmakers use “affordability checks”, demanding bank statements or payslips from anyone losing between £100 and £500 a month.

Waugh says this could be “catastrophic” for the industry, because heavy gamblers would seek alternatives such as the black market, while casual gamblers would simply stop bothering. Ministers are now considering lighter-touch “financial health checks”, perhaps using open-source credit information.

Another high-profile area still up for grabs is football sponsorship. The government would rather not legislate on this and has instead leaned on the Premier League to persuade clubs to voluntarily eschew multimillion-pound shirt sponsorship deals from gambling firms. An agreement is thought to be in the pipeline but questions remain over the LED ads on pitchside hoardings. Logic suggests they, too, should be axed if shirt sponsorship is, but logic and political compromise seldom go together.

Another option is for some knotty issues to be farmed out to the Gambling Commission. This could include the use of what Frazer last week called “enticements”, such as “free” bets or bonuses to lure back lapsed gamblers.

The regulator may also be asked to recommend a way forward on advertising. This could address bizarre discrepancies such as the industry volunteering in 2019 to ban gambling commercials during TV football broadcasts, while airing radio ads for online casinos during the school run.

Waugh anticipates a lengthy post-white-paper process in which the Gambling Commission does the government’s homework on the finer detail. This prospect keeps industry executives up at night, he says, as some feel the regulator has become more hardline in recent years.

But he points out that big players such as Flutter – owner of Paddy Power Betfair – and Ladbrokes Coral owner Entain have bigger fish to fry. Their sights are set on opportunities opening up in the US, after sports betting was legalised in many states.

“There’s less agitation from the industry,” Waugh said. “They’re just saying ‘For Christ’s sake, just publish it’.” On that point at least, the industry and Gambling With Lives are aligned.
