Licensed Online Casinos in Ontario with Poker

The list is the shortest for Ontario’s online poker operators. That’s because the AGCO does not allow betting pools extending beyond the state’s borders. Considering that, no wonder the prize pools are too small for most operators to offer online poker.

Even less in numbers, the combined operators have what it takes to satisfy your needs. Each has advantages you may find intriguing. The list is slowly growing as the government has taken the gaming category’s tremendous popularity into account. Stay tuned for any new platforms entering the online gambling market in Ontario.

Now that you have a full list of all legit gaming operators in Ontario, Canada, it is advisable to know what makes them lawful. Being a fully registered and authorized operator means a successful AGCO registration and an operating agreement with iGO.

Each of the licensed online casinos in Ontario meets strict standards of player protection, game integrity, and social responsibility, among others. The sites help with different control standards, preventing underage access and measures to enable responsible gambling to a greater extent. They have entered legal agreements securing compliance with applicable laws, including anti-money laundering.

Legal Age for Players in Ontario

The province you are in and the type of gambling define the legal age. The Canadian gambling laws determine 18- and 19-years old players as eligible. Which one will be in your province depends on the type of gambling you choose and how the local government approaches the matter. In Ontario, you must be at least 19 years old to gamble.

FAQ

We hope the complete list of all available regulated online casinos in Ontario will come in handy. To add even more clarity to the vast topic, we have prepared a short but informative FAQ section filled with pressing queries. It will help you find the answers in a speedy and convenient way.

1️⃣ How many licensed online casinos are there in Ontario?

As the largest province in Canada following the local gaming laws, it offers plenty of gambling websites to choose from. The number of regulated online casinos in Ontario grows every year. There are also platforms dedicated to other gambling products, adding diversity to the equation.

2️⃣ How many online sportsbooks are there in Ontario, Canada?

Since sportsbooks are less profitable than casinos, the regulated sportsbooks in Ontario are not that many. There are some options, and the dedicated operators have intriguing online sports betting sections. Those include special bonus offers and live betting opportunities, influencing the odds and the winning potential.

3️⃣ How are online casinos regulated in Ontario?

The platforms in the province come with active licenses from world-known regulatory bodies. They also must follow the legal gambling regulations in Ontario, including an AGCO registration and owning an iGO agreement to operate. Each partner strictly controls a specific element of an online gaming operator.

4️⃣ Where to play online poker in Ontario, CA?

The situation with strictly poker-related platforms is similar to the sports betting venues. Nevertheless, there is a decent number of licensed online poker operators in Ontario. The shortlist is due to AGCO’s ban on betting pools that extend beyond the province’s borders.

5️⃣ What is the legal gambling age in Ontario?

There is no difference based on the type of gambling, like in many other provinces in Canada. The local government follows the Canadian gaming laws and makes the legal gambling age in Ontario one for all games – it allows only players that are 19 years old to participate in such venues.

Analysis Suggests Why Some Operators in Massachusetts Withdrew

Fanatics Suitable for Category 3 License in Massachusetts

Second-tier sportsbooks will hardly reach profitability in Massachusetts at market maturity as they will need between 7% and 8% of the total market share to be profitable and this seems a steep climb for them.

Doomed from the Launch?

With the retail sports betting market in Massachusetts already live and the online sportsbooks less than 10 days from launch, independent consulting firm Eilers & Krejcik Gaming came up with an explanation for why some of the second-tier operators did not apply or have withdrawn applications.

Building its scenario based on PlayMA’s market projections at maturity of $5.7 billion in sports betting handle, the consultancy estimates that to reach profitability each sports betting operator would need between $32 million and $36.6 million in annual revenue.

For the big three players on the US sports betting scene, FanDuel, DraftKings and BetMGM, and several others, including Caesars Sportsbook, which went live ahead of the official market launch, and Barstool Sportsbook, generating such revenue would be easily achievable, for smaller sportsbook operators gaining such a market share is a tough call. Hence, BetRivers did not even bother to apply while others such as bet365 and PointsBet withdrew their applications.

Asked why the sportsbook decided to pull out of the running in the final hour, PointsBet’s director of communications, Patrick Eichner, did not provide a direct answer but rather outlined that the company had elected to “best optimize” the market where it already has operations comprising 13 US jurisdictions and Ontario.

There is also one big question mark in the analysis that relates to the handling of promotional write-offs by the State of Massachusetts as it is the biggest uncertainty in PlayMA’s market maturity projections.

Applying a scenario consistent with other states where the promotional deduction is 40% of gross revenue and around 3% of the betting handle, the analysis believes promotional bonus bets have the potential to boost the handle between 2% and 4%, or about $100 million, and based on the national average sportsbook hold of 8%, argues that operators’ revenue could be around $7.9 million higher with the promotional bets included.

The analysis claims that sports betting revenue for the state at market maturity could reach $87 million which is significantly higher than the projected by state lawmakers of $60 million but all would depend on the state’s approach to promotional write-offs.

Room for Thought It remains unclear how the consultancy came up to the conclusion that for smaller operators reaching 7%-8% of market share would be steep especially when 8% is the national average sportsbook hold. Are small sportsbooks doomed elsewhere too?

Sportradar ORAKO to power Ballers Sportsbook in Puerto Rico

Sportradar ORAKO to power Ballers Sportsbook in Puerto Rico

The two companies have entered into a multi-year partnership that will see the ORAKO solution deployed with the Puerto Rico-based sportsbook and help it deliver excellent experiences for players, as the company prepares to roll out its fully-fledged sportsbook product.

Ballers Sportsbook to Get a Strong Start in Puerto Rico

Ballers Sportsbook customers will have access to an extensive library of betting markets secured by Sportradar which will help registered users bet on a number of markets and sports. ORAKO brings along with it the opportunity to place a wager on player props, in-play, futures, teasers, moneylines, parlays, and more.

Ballers is planning to incorporate the ORAKO sportsbook solution with the R. Franco Digital PAM giving the company a full 360-degree omnichannel player experience. Ballers Sportsbook is expected to arrive at some point in the second quarter of the year, with Puerto Rico regulating its sports gambling industry only recently.

Commenting on this partnership, Ballers Sportsbook founder Daniel de Ontanon welcomed the opportunity to welcome Sportradar’s solution and implement it with the upcoming online sports betting experience which will deliver on one of the best possible platforms in Puerto Rico over the coming months. De Ontanon said:

We are tremendously pleased and excited to count one of the world’s most prestigious sports betting and gaming platform providers as our partner.

Ballers Sportsbook founder Daniel de Ontanon

Excellent Sportsbook Solution with Local Flavor

The executive added that the sportsbook operator was committed to providing a unique and tailored experience to players with a true local flavor. Sportradar managing director managed sportsbook services Jacob Lopez Curciel explained that Puerto Rico is an important part of the Americas and therefore a growth opportunity for the company.

“We are pleased to power Ballers Sportsbook through our ORAKO solution and use the breadth of Sportradar’s technical capabilities to cover the full scale of the sports betting spectrum,” Curciel concluded. The launch of sports betting in Puerto Rico took some time as well.

The activity was officially passed into law in 2019, but the next three years were rife with debate about when the actual rollout of sportsbooks should happen. In the meantime, Sportradar was able to introduce its ORAKO solution in 2022, enabling Ballers Sportsbook to now benefit from it.

BlueBet Strives for Positive Cash Flow After Disappointing H1 Results

BlueBet Strives for Positive Cash Flow After Disappointing H1 Results

BlueBet, a mobile-first online wagering provider based in Australia, has announced its half-year financial results for the six months which ended on December 31, 2022, (H1 FY23).

BlueBet Posts Negative EBITDA and Profit After Tax

BlueBet’s turnover increased by 6.1% to AUD280.5 million ($189.3 million) in H1 FY23, with strong growth in sports and mobile. However, the net win decreased by 5.1% to AUD27.1 million ($18.3 million) due to a shift in the mix to sports and increased promotional investment.

The company’s gross profit decreased by 10.7% to AUD13.1 million ($8.8 million), while EBITDA was negative at AUD10.5 million ($7 million) and profit after income tax was negative at AUD9.9 million ($6.7 million).

Despite these challenges, BlueBet has continued to invest in marketing and product to position itself for continued market share growth. The company soft-launched ClutchBet in Iowa in August, with the Colorado launch on track for H2. BlueBet also made a strategic investment in Low6, which allowed it to launch its first free-to-play game ahead of the NFL Super Bowl.

In addition, the company has continued to invest in product development, with the BlueBet Global Platform expected to drive scalability and operational efficiencies after its launch in late FY23. BlueBet is also exploring opportunities in the B2B Sportsbook-as-a-Solution model and has discussions underway with a number of potential partners.

Bluebet’s Objective Is to Achieve Positive Cash Flow

BlueBet CEO Bill Richmond commented that the company delivered a strong performance in H1, remaining focused on delivering its strategy and providing an excellent experience for its customers in the face of increased market competition.

Richmond added that BlueBet is well capitalized to execute its growth plans in Australia and the US, and with a strong US team now in place, the company is well-placed to deliver its growth strategy in H2 and beyond.

Looking ahead, BlueBet’s priorities for H2 include returning its Australian business to positive operating cash flow, continuing to invest in product development, launching its first free-to-play game, and enhancing its US product by introducing HyperLive micro-live betting functionality. The company also aims to progress discussions around its B2B Sportsbook-as-a-Solution offering.

Despite some challenges in H1, BlueBet has continued its strong growth trajectory, driven by its differentiated brand and market-leading product. The company’s continued investment in marketing, product, and strategic partnerships positions it for continued market share growth in both Australia and the US.

EPT Paris Hands of the Week: A Rare Quadruple Knockout, Grafton Gives a Free Dinner

EPT Paris Hands of the Week: A Rare Quadruple Knockout, Grafton Gives a Free Dinner

The PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Paris recently wrapped with PokerStars qualifier Razvan Belea cruising to victory in the €5,300 Main Event for €1,170,000. We also recently talked about the EPT Paris in latest episode of the PokerNews Podcast, which you can listen to here.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team was on-site to captured live updates from a slew of EPT Paris tournaments, and there were some very memorable ones. Below is a look at five more exciting hands captured in our live updates from the EPT Paris.

Johan Guilbert’s Antics Upset Poker World After Three Clocks Called in Same Hand

O’Dwyer Flops Nuts in Five-Bet Pot

Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O’Dwyer

In the €10,300 EPT Paris High Roller, it was Level 8 (500/1,000/1,000) when Tauan De Oliveira Naves opened the action with a raise to 2,300 from the cutoff. Imad Derwiche responded with a three-bet to 5,400 from the button, after which big blind Steve O’Dwyer put in the four-bet to 14,000. De Oliveira Naves quickly folded to so many raises, and Derwiche engaged in some speech play.

”You want to win your money back?” asked Derwiche to an ever-silent O’Dwyer. After waiting for an answer that never came, Derwiche put in the five-bet to 35,000, which O’Dwyer quickly called.

The flop fell {k-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and Derwiche protected his eyes so he could not see it until it was his turn. When O’Dwyer checked, Derwiche rapidly moved all in for roughly 65,000 chips. O’Dwyer snap-called, covering his opponent, declaring: ”I have the nuts.”

Imad Derwiche: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}
Steve O’Dwyer: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

O’Dwyer was not lying, as he indeed flopped the nut flush. The turn {2-Clubs} spelled the end for Derwiche, and as the {q-Clubs} river fell, he left the tournament area frustratedly but had enough sportsmanship to give his opponent a fist bump beforehand.

Mary Triples Up With Quads; Cracks Aces in Three-Way All In

Herve Mary
Herve Mary

In the €1,100 FPS Paris Main Event, it was Level 9 (600/1,200/1,200) when Francky Magliocco opened to 2,400 from under the gun before Maciej Gut three-bet to 6,000 on his immediate left. Kevin Fluegel then reraised to 15,000 from the cutoff and then Herve Mary five-bet jammed for 41,200 from the button.

Magliocco then called off his stack of 40,500. Gut folded but Fluegel called to have both Magliocco and Mary at risk of elimination.

Francky Magliocco: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}
Herve Mary: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Kevin Fluegel: {a-}{k-}

All three players had premium hands but Magliocco had the best of it. However, Mary hopped into the lead after making a set on the {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{4-Spades} flop.

The {5-Diamonds} turn kept things as they were. The {q-Spades} river gave Mary the checkmark as well as quads and he took down the massive pot to get a triple up and some change while securing an elimination.

Runner-Runner Cracks Aces of Ferreira Pais

Mauricio Ferreira Pais
Mauricio Ferreira Pais

On Day 2 of the €10,200 Mystery Bounty, Mauricio Ferreira Pais had a rare quadruple Knockout that we highlighted last week. That hand helped propel him to the final table, but that is where his good luck wore off.

With seven players remaining in Level 24 (50,000/100,000/100,000), Pablo Navarro raised to 200,000 from under the gun and it folded all the way back to Ferreira Pais in the big blind. He three-bet to 500,000 as one of the chip leaders with a stack of around 20 blinds. Navarro pushed all-in and Ferreira Pais beat him into the pot.

Mauricio Ferreira Pais: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
Pablo Navarro: {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

The {q-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop brought some equity to Navarro, who asked for running diamonds. With the {k-Clubs} turn, his outs were reduced to four but he spiked one of them with the {10-Diamonds} river. Both stacks were counted and Navarro was ahead by three blinds.

Ferreira Pais earned a cash prize of €21,550 and €72,500 in bounties that he had collected along the way.

Andre Marques Wins Maiden EPT Title in the €10,200 Mystery Bounty

Petrangelo Loses Chips But Wins Free Dinner for Doubling Grafton

Nick Petrangelo
Nick Petrangelo

In the EPT Paris €25,000 High Roller, it was Level 13 (4,000/8,000/8,000) when Chris Brewer raised to 16,000 and was called by Ren Lin as well as Tom Orpaz on the button. PokerStars Ambassador Sam Grafton then moved all-in for 59,000 in the small blind and Nick Petrangelo reraised to 110,000.

Brewer quickly let go while Lin mulled it over for almost the entire 30-second shot clock to then fold. Orpaz also gave it some consideration but let go, too.

“How do you wake up with aces there, Nicky?” Grafton said, having been silent until then. When the cards were revealed, Grafton was suddenly all smiles, though.

Sam Grafton: {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Nick Petrangelo: {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

“If I win this hand with king-high, you can pick dinner anywhere,” the jovial Brit instantly offered and then meshed the cards of both players before the dealer separated them again.

Somehow, king-high indeed won the pot on the {a-Spades}{6-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Clubs} runout and Grafton then praised Petrangelo for more than three minutes despite having lost the hand. “That’s how he wins all the money … he just slapped you all,” Grafton declared.

Petrangelo didn’t say a single word and maintained a dry smile on his face throughout.

Chris Brewer Wins €25,000 No-Limit Hold’em for €357,180

Marketer Says $700m Women’s Cricket League Shows ‘Women’s Sports is the Next Economy for Sport’

Indian female cricket player

Major appetite for WPL

India’s inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) cricket tournament has generated a staggering amount of investment in women’s sports before play has even begun.

has raked in almost $700m from media rights

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has raked in almost $700m from media rights for the WPL’s first five seasons and franchise sales. The investment pushes the WPL just behind professional US women’s basketball as the second most valuable domestic women’s sports competition in the world.

Thayer Lavielle, from the women-oriented arm of US sports marketing agency Wasserman, sees this as additional confirmation that “women’s sports is the next economy for sport.”

Tide changes for women’s cricket

The BCCI is betting big on the WPL, and women’s sports are attracting higher levels of viewership, media coverage, television rights, and sponsorships globally.

BCCI honorary secretary Jay Shah took to Twitter on Tuesday with video animation of the breakthrough year for Indian woman’s cricket:

The WPL contracts for the top women cricketers are significant. India’s opening batter Smriti Mandhana is pocketing $410,000 for her services, while all-rounders Ash Gardner of Australia and Nat Sciver-Brunt of England tied for the highest overseas player’s contract at $387,000.

AFP cited Deloitte Sports Business Group’s James Savage as saying the WPL numbers represented “an unprecedented amount of investment into the women’s game.”

James links the cash flood to the “huge growth potential” of women’s cricket.

New career path

With the emergence of a financial path, the WPL is building participation and encouraging young girls and their parents to see the sport as offering a career with lucrative rewards and the same amount of pay as their male cricketing contemporaries.

Despite the record-breaking UEFA Women’s EURO 2022, the disparity between the salaries of male and female soccer players, nevertheless, continues.

IWG’s eInstant Progressive Jackpots Award Record Prizes

Cirsa Casinos in Mexico Introduced Zitro’s Mega King

The provider of eInstant games for lotteries, Instant Win Gaming (IWG), confirmed that since the start of the year, multiple record progressive jackpot prizes were awarded. The company said in a statement released Thursday that the Virginia Lottery, the New Hampshire Lottery, as well as the Michigan Lottery, had a stellar start of the year, awarding record-setting progressive jackpot prizes for the first two months of 2023.

IWG explained that the jackpots reaffirm the potential of the company’s progressive jackpot-powered games that deliver unique chances for high prizes to lottery customers around the US. Moreover, the announcement about the record jackpot prizes comes after a major prize was secured recently, in October. Back then, the Pennsylvania Lottery via IWG’s Big Keystone Jackpot eInstant awarded a $1.6 million jackpot.

The Supplier’s Presence in North America Grows

IWG’s CEO, Rhydian Fisher, congratulated the lotteries in Virginia, New Hampshire and Michigan for the record awards from the company’s eInstant progressive jackpots. He explained that the company is excited to continue to increase the reach of its leading products. Moreover, Fisher explained that by now, IWG has launched more than 70 progressive eInstant jackpots for North America.

Congratulations to Michigan, New Hampshire, and Virginia lotteries for each setting eInstant progressive jackpot records.

Rhydian Fisher, CEO at IWG

Fisher pointed out that the company’s progressive jackpot games help build the company’s experience which in turn improves the products for lottery players. “What I love about all these record-setting jackpots is that they leverage the combination of IWG game styles and technologies to drive this excitement,” he said.

According to him, the different technologies, such as InstantBoost and InstantJackpot, to name a few, meet the requirements of different lotteries. In conclusion, Fisher said that IWG is looking forward to seeing further growth in its products throughout 2023.

It’s very exciting and we look forward to growing the jackpot category further in 2023.

added Fisher

It was back in January when the Michigan Lottery, via its Monthly Jackpot second chance jackpot eInstant, awarded a record prize of $403,618. The game itself receives funding from a percentage of the sales and leverages IWG’s leading InstantReplay technology.

Then, in February, the Virginia Lottery awarded a record $785,414 jackpot prize from its Commonwealth Jackpot eInstants. Another progressive jackpot prize was awarded near the end of February by the New Hampshire Lottery. One lucky player that participated in the Lottery’s Premier Jackpot game, powered by IWG’s InstantBoost, secured a record-breaking $392,703 prize.
