What casino games can I play in New Jersey?

Online casinos in New Jersey offer just about every casino game you would expect.

The best online casinos offer a wide variety of slot machines and all the standard table games like roulette, blackjack, baccarat, and craps. Most online casinos will also throw in some twists based on new gameplay mechanics or even just a new visual theme.

Live dealer versions are often available for the most popular games, and even obscure games like three-card poker or digital scratch cards have their places.

You can find all these and more at online casinos in New Jersey.

Play Blackjack online in New Jersey

Blackjack is one of the simplest card games to learn, but playing the perfect strategy takes some serious memory work.

Players compete against the dealer to see who can get closest to 21 without going over and busting. There are a few basic variants available at online casinos in New Jersey. For example, you can play versions with small adjustments to the rules. For example, some versions allow surrender and insurance, others do not.

There are also versions with exotic side bets like Perfect Blackjack, or fun visual themes like Eagles Blackjack. Others introduce whole new mechanics, like Xchange Blackjack where you can pay to swap out individual cards instead of hitting.

Legal online casinos in New Jersey offer plenty of blackjack options that should please most customers.

Play Roulette online in New Jersey

Roulette started life as the quintessential casino game, requiring a big table and a sharp croupier to keep track of the equipment and huge range of bets.

With online casinos, the options for roulette have grown enormously. The standard game in which a numbered wheel spins and a ball is used to choose the winning number can now be played with American and European wheels, live or digital, there’s even a version with one hundred numbers instead of the standard thirty-seven.

This popular game can be played in most New Jersey casinos online or off.

Play Craps online in New Jersey

If you’ve ever been inside a live casino, the craps table has probably caught your eye. The player participation (players often roll the dice themselves) and communal atmosphere make for an entertained and entertaining crowd.

The game is based on betting on the outcome of a series of die rolls. There tend to be fewer variations of craps online, but you can often tune into a live table for that physical feel.

Play Baccarat online in New Jersey

The favored game of agent 007 in the Bond novels, baccarat has an old-world sense of style and class.

That said, you can play the basic form of baccarat at most online casinos in New Jersey. In this version, players can bet on the banker, the player, or a push. A two-card hand is dealt to the banker and another to the player. The hands either draw another card or stand pat and the higher score wins.

You can find a few variants of baccarat games online, but the traditional nature of the game tends to push out any unusual variations.

What casino slots can you play in New Jersey?

Slots boil the gambling experience down to its purest form. The player places a bet and spins the reels, earning winnings when the reels stop spinning on matching sets. Click the button, win or lose. It’s that straightforward.

From this basic principle, tens of thousands of variations have grown. Every imaginable theme, setting, or concept seems to have a slot based on it. Some games spice things up with elaborate bonus games, while others offer the smallest number of options on the smallest number of reels.

The variety is dizzying but you can find them all at the best online casinos in New Jersey.

The best online slots to play in New Jersey

Choosing the best slot for you comes down to finding the combination of gameplay, theme, volatility, and return to player (RTP) that works best for you.

The top factor is RTP. This is given as a percentage and indicates the average payout. For example, an RTP of 96% means that on average that slot pays out 96 cents for every dollar wagered.

Volatility is the second biggest factor. High-volatility games are high risk, high reward. Low-volatility games will pay out more often, but tend to pay out less money per win on average.

After that, all that’s left is to find the right combination of volatility and RTP for you. Then pick a game with a fun theme and exciting bonus games.

Northwest Territories Gambling Laws ✔️ Legal Gambling in NWT, Canada

Gambling Licence Approval

There is no secret that the Northwest Territories’ laws on gambling permit various gambling games. Furthermore, the NWT laws on gambling are clear about the licences the gaming venues must acquire before offering their services to the players. Use the table below to navigate to this article’s main sections, learn the essentials, and don’t miss out on reading the frequently asked questions.

Northwest Territories Laws Regulating Gambling

Besides the provinces, Canada has three vast territories – the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Yukon. The territories cover vast regions and have small populations. The Northwest Territories history is popular because of the books of great writers and explorers. Here are a few essential details you need to know before gambling in the NWT:

🗺️ Territory 🐺 Northwest Territories
🍁 Country Canada
⚖️ Gambling Law Criminal Code of Canada Sections 201 through 206
♠️ Land-Based Gambling Legal
🃏 Online Gambling Legal
🎂 Legal Gambling Age 18 years for Lottery, Bingo, Scratch Cards, Keno,
19 years for Casino, Poker, and Sports Betting
👌 Licence & Regulation Government of the Northwest Territories Municipal and Community Affairs
💸 Taxes Winners Tax Only for Professional Players, Operators Pay Taxes Accordingly
🚓 Gambling Crimes Cheating, bribes, illegal gambling, and other gambling crimes are dealt with by the gambling venue, police, and government authorities

As part of Canada, each territory can choose its legislation if it complies with the main laws. The Northwest Territories gambling laws are also based on the Criminal Code of Canada. Just like the Nunavut gambling laws, gambling in the NWT is legal only when the government licenses the location.

The gambling laws in Canada’s Northwest Territories permit all forms of land-based and online gambling as long as it is offered by a legit provider like those in our guide of Canadian online casinos for 2023. Further down the article, we will share why it isn’t easy to find land-based venues and how you can play online. But first, we will tell you more about the authorities and gambling licences.

Northwest Territories Authorities & Gambling Licence

There are no specific Northwest Territories laws on gambling; instead, the gambling laws in Canada apply throughout the territory. Any operator who intends to open a gambling venue or offer wagering games must receive a licence from the government of Northwest Territories.

Gambling is legal only with authorisation from the Government of the Northwest Territories Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) in Yellowknife. MACA grants all lottery licences and regulates the games according to the Lotteries Act and the Criminal Code. Besides bingo, Nevada tickets, and raffles, the authority regulates casinos.

There are also no Northwest Territories online gambling laws because the Canadian online gambling legislation also applies. Offshore operators can also offer their services to players in NWT, but they must be licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, UK Gambling Commission, Malta Gaming Commission, the government of Gibraltar or another government authority.

Northwest Territory Land-Based & Online Gambling Venues

Casino Games

The NWT laws on gambling apply even in the country’s most remote corners. Even though the population is small and there are lots of fun activities to do in the wilderness, locals and guests occasionally gamble. In this blog post section, you will find details about brick-and-mortar gambling locations and online gaming options.

Brick-and-Mortar Gambling Locations in Northwest Territories

Lottery Bingo Gambling

As we already made clear, the Northwest Territories laws on gambling allow all forms of wagering and betting games. Despite the legality, there is limited number of land-based gambling venues because the territory is vast with few inhabitants. Anyone who intends to make a couple of wagers while waiting for the Aurora Borealis (northern lights) can choose from the options:

  • ♠️ Land-Based Casinos: the only land-based casino in all three Canadian territories is Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Gambling Hall in Dawson City.
  • 🎱 Lottery Games: all Northwest Territories lottery tickets, scratch cards, bingo, raffles, Nevada lotteries, pull tickets, and sports draft lotteries are operated by the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) and the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs. The tickets are sold at kiosks, convenience stores, and other locations.
  • 🏒 Sports Betting: is governed by the NWT lotteries and available at land-based retailers. Seeing the Sport Select brand means that players can wager on sports events.
  • 🏇 Horse & Dog Races: greyhound and horse races are part of the sports betting options, so check out the Sport Select venues.

The Northwest Territories gambling laws also allow casinos on tribal land and reservation. There are no First Nations casinos in NWT because there is no point in creating brick-and-mortar venues if there are no people to visit them. The fans of indigenous gaming locations can try First Nation casinos in Canada located in other provinces and territories.

Online Gambling in the Northwest Territory, Canada

Online Gambling Cards

The Canadian online gambling laws apply equally strongly in this region and remove the necessity of the local government to create Northwest Territories online gambling laws. Despite the freedom, there are no NWT gambling sites. However, the gambling laws in Canada’s Northwest Territories allow all forms of online gambling provided by licensed offshore operators. Here are some of the games locals play online:

  • 🎰 Slots
  • 🎰 Slingo
  • 👾 RNG & Arcade Games
  • 🎡 Roulette
  • ♠️ Poker
  • ♠️ Blackjack
  • ♠️ Baccarat
  • ♠️ Other RNG Table Games
  • 🕺 Live Dealer Games
  • 🎲 Dice
  • ✍️ Scratch Cards
  • 🎱 Lottery
  • 🎱 Bingo
  • 🎱 Keno
  • 🏒 Sports Betting
  • 🏇 Horse Races
  • 🐕 Dog Races

One of the preferred sports betting and gambling options is Sport Select, also established according to the NWT laws on gambling. Alternatives are the licensed and regulated Canadian online casinos and the offshore casinos. Many reliable operators have excellent online gambling sites and offer play options on the go offered by the top online casinos in the Northwest Territories, Canada.

Gambling Addiction & Responsible Gambling in NWT, Canada

Gambling Addiction Therapy

Besides regulating the operators and the games, the Northwest Territories’ gambling laws also relate to players. For example, gamblers must be of legal age to place a wager. One of the most difficult things to predict and control is gambling addiction and underage gambling. Despite the difficulties, the authorities have many ways to deal with this issue.

The first way is to create responsible gambling policies for all operators and wagering venues. This includes responsible gaming tools, underage gambling control, cool-down options, self-assessment tests, and more tools. All of them are available at the newest Canadian online casinos and can be found at land-based gambling venues.

Besides preventing addiction, the government and organisations take measures in helping gambling addicts and their families. The Responsible Gambling Council is the main force against problem gambling. Once the addiction is established, players can use the open helplines or contact different private and government organisations.

Danish Self-Exclusion Tool Gains Momentum with Over 40,000 Registrants

Denmark’s 2022 GGR Showed Strong Retail Gambling Recovery

Since its launch in 2012, the number of registrants has been on a steady increase, with over 40,000 Danes having signed up for the scheme.

Danish Gambling Authority Credits Awareness Campaigns for Increase in ROFUS Registrants

Anders Dorph, director of the Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, notes that the increasing number of registrants proves that ROFUS is a useful tool that makes sense. He emphasizes that ROFUS plays an important role in ensuring that players who need a break have access to one.

One reason for the rise in ROFUS registrants is the Danish Gambling Authority’s efforts to raise awareness of the scheme. Since 2016, the Authority has been running campaigns on TV and social media to let people know about ROFUS. Their efforts have paid off, with 45% of Danes surveyed in 2021 indicating that they knew about the tool.

In 2020, online providers were mandated to refer to ROFUS in their marketing efforts. This move has further raised awareness of the scheme.

The majority of ROFUS registrants have chosen to permanently exclude themselves from gambling. 66% of players who sign up choose this option, although players can opt out of the register after a year by contacting the Danish Gambling Authority. Additionally, most registrants are men, with men making up 76% of self-excluded players in February 2023.

Anders Dorph believes that it is essential to have tools like ROFUS to ensure that players who need a break can take one easily and effectively. In addition to ROFUS, the Danish Gambling Authority also runs the counseling line StopSpillet, which provides advice and guidance to players, relatives, and professionals dealing with compulsive gambling.

With ROFUS and StopSpillet, Denmark is leading the way in player protection measures, making it easier for players to take a break from gambling and access support when they need it.

ROFUS Got 10,000 More Registrants in Just One Year

Back in December 2022, the Danish Gambling Authority announced that it has improved its self-exclusion register, known as ROFUS, to provide better protection for vulnerable individuals. The updated system now has a user-friendly interface, which makes it easier for individuals to self-exclude all licensed gambling activities in the country.

As of January 2022, over 30,000 people had registered with ROFUS, which goes to show that in just one year 10,000 more people have registered for the service. In the December update, the regulator also increased the period of exclusion from one to five years, allowing individuals more time to recover and seek help if needed.

AGA Letter Pushes Kentucky Senate for Regulated Sports Betting

Kentucky Clears House Bill Banning Video Game Machines with Cash Payouts

The American Gaming Association (AGA) has sent a letter to the Kentucky Senate, urging the passage of regulated sports betting legislation in the state.

AGA Highlights the Need for Regulated Sports Betting to Combat Illegal Wagering in Kentucky

AGA’s research has found that an estimated $64 billion is wagered each year with illegal sportsbooks, meaning that these operators do not pay state taxes, do not have a legal obligation to pay winning bettors, and often do not promote responsible gaming. By contrast, the research recognized that legal sports betting provides consumer protection and transparency while generating tax revenue for the state.

The letter notes that six of the seven states that border Kentucky have already legalized sports betting, leaving citizens who wish to wager with two options: travel to a neighboring state or place bets with an illegal sportsbook. The AGA argues that the state must pass regulated sports betting legislation to eliminate this gap.

House Bill 551, which is currently under consideration, would allow licensed horse tracks and the Kentucky Derby to partner with up to three online sports betting skins, creating a maximum of 27 operators in the state. This would break up any monopoly on the Kentucky market and give consumers more options.

In its concluding remarks, the AGA letter respectfully implores the Senate to take action, urging them to consider and pass legislation that would enable the people of Kentucky to engage in sports betting through regulated and safe channels, rather than relying on illegal means.

Kentucky’s Blocked Online Sportsbook Attempts Highlight Need for Regulated Options

The letter comes after geolocation checks by GeoComply found 295,000 blocked attempts at accessing online sportsbooks in other states during the opening weekend of March Madness in Kentucky. This indicates a clear demand for sports betting within the state, which AGA argues must be met with safety and regulation.

If the Senate approves House Bill 551, it would bring Kentucky in line with other states that have already legalized sports betting, including Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, and West Virginia. It would also provide consumers with regulated options and generate revenue for the state, which could be invested in vital initiatives.

The AGA’s letter highlights the need for the Senate to act swiftly and decisively to regulate sports betting in Kentucky, to protect consumers and provide a legal, transparent option for those who wish to engage in sports wagering.

PointsBet and University of Colorado Exit Betting Partnership

PointsBet and University of Colorado Exit Betting Partnership

One of the collaborations to fall through is that between PointsBet, a regulated sports betting operator, and the University of Colorado.

The alliance had to be stopped short in light of the American Gaming Association’s (AGA) update to its  Responsible Marketing Code for Sports Wagering which will now not allow colleges to team up with sportsbooks for the purposes of distributing sports gambling products.

The only case in which such partnerships may carry on is if they exclusively focus on safer and responsible gambling messages. Still, the partners are splitting into amicable terms:

PointsBet and the University of Colorado have decided it is mutually beneficial to end their partnership at this time.

Statement by PointsBet/University of Colorado

Both the University of Colorado and PointsBet were thankful for the opportunity to work together. This is ending a five-year partnership that was originally signed in 2020 and was supposed to last throughout the 2025-26 school year. The university was receiving a $30 referral fee for each customer PointsBet has been able to secure with the promotional code issued by the university.

The promo codes however were highly controversial and they were finally struck down in January 2023, leaving the relationship more or less in tethers. The announcement by AGA has made it even clearer that the partnership was not designed on the best of terms and without the opportunity to convert paying customers, there was little to actually offer back.

First to Enter Sports Betting Partnership, First to Exit It

The partnership though in itself was interesting from the start. The University of Colorado was the first Power 5, a college division, school to sign up a team up with a sports betting company in the fast-developing market. The University of Colorado is only one of five schools in the United States to have signed similar partnerships.

These are likely to wind down or be stopped short unless some brands choose to promote responsible gambling messages exclusives in exchange for having their logos and signage visible on school grounds.

Massachusetts Thrashes Out New Affiliate Rules

Final Preparations Underway for Massachusetts’ Sports Betting Launch

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) has reached a final solution this week after executive members decided that affiliates would not be able to enter into revenue-sharing agreements with regulated operators in the market.

No Revenue-Sharing Deal for Affiliates in Massachusetts

The reason behind this, executives explained, was that the scheme depended on consumers losing money and it undermined the safe and responsible gambling practices the Bay State was trying to encourage.

Essentially, a revenue-sharing agreement means that an affiliate who “converts” a consumer into a paying customer will get a percentage of said consumer’s losses in perpetuity. This, while the status quo in many states and jurisdictions, will not be the case in Massachusetts.

Rather, the commission will only allow affiliate partnerships that depend on the cost-per-acquisition model, a much less attractive scheme that is often considered the worst option for affiliates, but not so much for operators.

In a cost-per-acquisition affiliate partnership, the operators will pay a fee to the affiliate who has brought in a depositing consumer outright. This fee will be only paid once. Moving forward, all updates regarding the affiliate agreements in the Bay State have been updated to properly reflect this.

Affiliates will simply not be entitled to a percentage of the revenue earned from customers that they have helped bring to the sportsbook. Sports betting is going strong in Massachusetts with DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, WynnBet, and Barstool Sportsbook all licensed and already catering to local bettors in the market.

The clarification in the affiliate schemes comes at a time when the United States is taking a much closer look at how gambling products are advertised, especially in states which have launched commercial online gambling.

Massachusetts Remains Vigilant Over Regulated Gambling Industry

Massachusetts is the 24th such state. The American Gaming Association has just issued an update to its Responsible Advertising Code, seeking to better protect college-aged audiences and eliminate the use of “risk-free” promotional materials used by affiliates and sportsbooks.

The MGC has been busy in the meantime, sorting out regulatory action against some of the state’s operators, with b and WynnBet accused of accepting illegal college sports bets and agreeing to settle with the regulator earlier this year. The sportsbooks have admitted hope and have promised to remedy the situation and ensure that their internal systems are fine-tuned to avoid such illegal bets from taking place in future.

Australia Lawmakers Consider Reclassifying Games with Gambling and Loot Boxes

Arguments over video game gambling, loot boxes

Australia is adding a new twist to the raging debate over loot boxes and gambling in video games with a proposed change to how they are classified.

would require all video games…that offer gambling to have an R18+ rating

The federal government is suggesting a new rule that would require all video games, regardless of their story content and user experience, that offer gambling to have an R18+ rating. Games with loot boxes but that do not directly allow players to gamble would be earmarked as “M” for mature, or players 15+.

Games R18+ can only be purchased by players that are at least 18 years old. “M” games are not recommended for anyone under 15.

The argument for restrictions

Last year, an initiative to restrict games with loot boxes to the 18+ crowd made waves, but did not amount to legal change.

Communications Minister Michelle Rowland, a large proponent of increased gambling restrictions and ally to gambling reform, is on board with limiting gambling-simulating games to audiences 18 or older.

“A parent… would expect that if their children had purchased and was playing a game, and that game contained some simulated gambling, that they have a right to know about that,” said Rowland. “For children under 18 living at home, the parents should be making all the decisions on what their children buy.”

But while classifying what constitutes gambling is relatively straightforward, the topic of loot boxes is not.

Loot boxes are bundles of rewards that contain random prizes. They can usually be purchased with an in-game currency that can be earned or bought with real-life cash.

not that dissimilar from spinning a random wheel

Loot boxes are found in all sorts of video games, including ones that are not directly tied to gambling. Developer Electronic Arts has been accused of cultivating the growth of loot boxes with FIFA, Madden, and other sports games in which players can purchase packs of unknown players for a certain amount of coins. The contents are not that dissimilar from spinning a random wheel, although EA classifies what types of players will be in the packs.

Other games such as the popular first-person shooter Overwatch have also incorporated loot boxes (note: Overwatch 2, released October 4, 2022, saw loot boxes removed from the game).

Figuring out the effects

While Australia is ironing out the wrinkles with video games and loot boxes, it still has to deal with the controversial topic of online social casinos. For context, several US states have classified them as forms of gambling, while others have not.

Social casinos can be found on social media pages and websites or downloaded as an app. Customers play for free, but can buy back in once they run out of credits, which is the cause of the disagreement.

structurally and psychologically akin to gambling.”

Lots of research has been put into studying and understanding the impact of social casinos and loot boxes and character traits and whether or not they lead to addictive personalities. As proof, a 2021 study co-conducted by the University of Plymouth and the University of Wolverhampton found that loot boxes “are structurally and psychologically akin to gambling.”

Critics believe that the two concepts are totally dissimilar and bear no impact on one another.

Special attention has also been paid in recent times to creating safe gambling environments all over the world. That includes cracking down on illegal offshore gambling syndicates, a long-awaited white paper on gambling reform in the UK, and most recently, the American Gaming Association setting new standards for the advertisement of sportsbooks.

Lawmakers have not decided whether or not they will reclassify video games with simulated gambling and loot boxes as proposed.
