PokerNews Freerolls on 888

If you’re looking for 888poker freeroll passwords, you’ve come to the right place! PokerNews has partnered with 888poker to offer our readers some great added value freerolls in June, with the first freeroll kicks off on June 4.

The freerolls are password protected, and the passwords can be found on our exclusive PokerNews Discord Channel. By joining us on Discord, you give yourself a chance to get your hands on some incredible added value at 888. All that is required for you to play in these freerolls is an active 888poker account and to be a reader of PokerNews.

Head to the 888poker tournament lobby and look for “PokerNews” in the restricted section of the tournament listings. The first freeroll in June, the PokerNews Discord Freeroll, shuffles up and deals at 8:00 p.m. GMT on June 4 and sees you sit down with 3,000 chips and play to a ten-minute clock where the blinds start at only 15/30. That’s 100 big blinds to battle with! The structure is superb for a free-to-play tournament; having a $150 prize pool serves as an added bonus.

The freeroll also offers 30 minutes of late registration, so if you are unable to make it for the official start, then do not worry. You’ll also notice that each freeroll tournament is played as No-Limit Hold’em, so if you are new to the game, then head over to the Texas Hold’em rules page to get to grips with the basics and test your new learnings.

As mentioned above, all of the freerolls are password-protected, so how do you receive the password? All of the passwords are revealed on the new and improved PokerNews Discord server 48 hours before each freeroll kicks off. If you are not part of our Discord channel (you should be because it is the place to be for PokerNews content and giveaways), you will find the password on our social media channels a few hours before the freerolls commence.

Maverick Gaming Poker Room To Officially Open In June

Maverick Gaming Poker Room To Officially Open In June

On May 23rd, Washington-based Maverick Gaming, a poker pioneer owned by Eric Persson, revealed an alliance with Rhode Island-based Bally’s Corporation to officially open the Maverick Gaming Poker Room, which will be located at the 66-year-old Strip resort.

However, the terms of the agreement were not revealed.

Grand opening in June:

Maverick is the current owner of 4 commercial casinos in Nevada, 3 in Colorado and 23 card rooms in Washington, which it achieved through working with tribal businesses, which shows that it is truly one of the pioneers of the industry. Commenting on the planned opening, Jeremy Weinstein, chief marketing officer for Maverick, said: “The company intends to capture players with twice-daily tournaments and the lowest rake – the commission paid to the casino on games – on the Strip.”

In addition, the poker room is slated to have a grand opening in June, with details on the opening date and time to be revealed soon. But that’s not all; as the room will be located adjacent to Bally’s Big Bet Poker livestream broadcast studio at the Tropicana.

The network’s showrunners and executive producers are responsible for the partnership:

The partnership was orchestrated by the network’s showrunners and executive producers of Bally’s Big Bet Poker livestream and television series, Houston Curtis and Rick Mahr of Outlaw Media Group, and supported by Maverick CEO Eric Persson, a poker player. In a statement, Arik Knowles, vice president and general manager of Tropicana Las Vegas, said: “We are very excited to be working with Mr. Persson and Maverick Gaming in an effort to also raise the stakes on inclusivity and affordability, treating players of all levels like VIPs at our tables.” Curtis added: “When Bally’s gave us the opportunity to expand the Bally’s Big Bet Poker brand to the Tropicana Las Vegas, we immediately thought of Eric as a tremendous asset, both on and off the felt. Persson’s industry expertise and proven ability to build successful poker rooms superbly aligns with Bally’s omni-channel network. Then, of course, there is Eric’s massive influence and appeal as a super high-stakes pro player.”

Furthermore, the room is projected to offer No Limit Hold ’Em games with $1 small blinds and $3 big blinds in one game and $2 small blinds with $5 big blinds in the other. As part of the entire upcoming poker room experience at the upcoming poker room, Eric Persson will be taking on deep stacked giants of the poker world at Bally’s Big Bet Poker® which will include world champions, cash game crushers, legendary sports stars and Hollywood celebrities.

Binding agreement:

Gaming and Leisure Properties Inc. owns the Tropicana land, with the casino operated by Providence, Bally’s. Additionally, the both firms recently verified that “they have signed a binding agreement with the Oakland Athletics Major League Baseball team, which hopes to build a $1.5 billion, 30,000-seat baseball stadium with a retractable roof in a bid to relocate to Las Vegas.”

However, if that happens, Bally’s has emphasized that it will build a new resort and probably open it under the Bally’s brand name, as it has done with other facilities around the country. Right now, its largest venture is building a new casino in Chicago.

Benny Glaser the GOAT Claims Record-Equalling 10th PokerStars SCOOP Title

Benny Glaser the GOAT Claims Record-Equalling 10th PokerStars SCOOP Title

It appears that nobody is safe from the one-man wrecking ball that is Benny “RunGodlike” Glaser when it comes to the PokerStars Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP). Glaser is best known for his mixed game prowess, having secured nine SCOOP titles and eight World Championship Of Online Poker (WCOOP) titles, with all but one coming in non-Hold’em events.

On May 25, Glaser clinched his third victory of the 2023 SCOOP, which puts him on a record-equalling ten titles with Calvin “cal42688” Anderson. Glaser’s latest first-place finish came in the $109 No-Limit Hold’em 7-Max Turbo PKO event, his first NLHE victory across both SCOOP and WCOOP. Nobody has more ‘COOP victories than Gaser.

Is there no game that Glaser cannot turn his hand to? It appears not.

SCOOP 100-M: $109 NLHE 7-Max Turbo PKO Final Table Results

Place Player Country Bounties Prize Total Prize
1 Benny “RunGodlike” Glaser United Kingdom $17,104 $16,564 $33,668
2 Virgillk Romania $2,297 $16,563 $18,860

6 quimmixxx Argentina $1,624 $3,018 $4,642
7 FindMeOnFBok Ireland $329 $2,075 $2,404

Some 2,681 players turned out in force for SCOOP 100-M: $109 NLHE 7-Max Turbo PKO, creating a $268,100 prize pool as a result. $33,668 of that sum is now in Glaser’s possession. No doubt the uber-talented Brit will be investing a significant chunk of those winnings into the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) grind in the coming weeks.

Three of the seven finalists turned their $109 investments into five-figure scores.

Brazilian “FelipeAA23” busted in third place, and walked away with $10,878 for their efforts. Their untimely demise left Glaser heads-up against Romania’s “Virgillk,” and one elimination away from a tenth SCOOP title.

The rest, as they say, is history, and Glaser left yet another opponent in his wake. “Virgillk” collected $18,860 for their runner-up finish, leaving Glaser to scoop yet another SCOOP win plus $33,668 in prize money.

Sturm Takes Down the $3,150 High Roller; Veldhuis’ Wait Continues

Leon Sturm
Leon Sturm

Team PokerStars’ Lex “L. Veldhuis” Veldhuis‘ wait for his maiden SCOOP victory continues, with the popular Dutchman reaching yet another final table but ultimately falling short.

Veldhuis was one of 136 entrants in the SCOOP 91-H: $3,150 NLHE PKO High Roller, and reached the final table with enough chips to occupy sixth place. Unfortunately for Veldhuis and his legion of fans, sixth place is where he finished.

Ukraine’s “ContraSpemSper0,” “milanov888,” and “Old brock” were the first players eliminated from the final table.

Then came Veldhuis’ exit hand. Leon” RUMUKULUS” Sturm min-raised from the button, and Veldhuis defended his big blind with queen-three of spades. Veldhuis check-called a 1.4 big blind bet on the six-queen-ace flop, which showed two hearts.

Lex Veldhuis

Veldhuis checked again on the offsuit deuce turn, then called a chunkier 6.2 big blind bet, leading to the eight of clubs river. The Dutchman checked for a third time, and Sturm bet enough to set Veldhuis all-in for his last 20.3 big blinds. Veldhuis went into the tank before emerging with a call, only to discover Sturm had the goods with his ace-deuce turning two pair.

Sturm eventually found himself heads-up against “Haringbuis” after Sweden’s “flerrehuve,” Ramiro “ramastar88” Petrone, and Markku “markovitsus” Koplimaa bowed out. Both of the heads-up players locked in $38,080, leaving the massive final bounties to play for.

“Haringbuis” fell at the final hurdle and had to make do with a runner-up prize worth $49,102, leaving Sturm to collect $94,664 thanks in part to a bounty haul in excess of $56,000.

After Losing Huge Lead, Red Hot Bin Weng Wins WPT SHR Poker Showdown

After Losing Huge Lead, Red Hot Bin Weng Wins WPT SHR Poker Showdown

Another day, another tournament win for Bin Weng, who took down the World Poker Tour (WPT) Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown on Thursday in Las Vegas for $1,128,250. And now he can go get some sleep and try to win yet another final table on Friday.

Weng, who lives in Pennsylvania, is on the heater of a lifetime and apparently cannot be stopped this year. The $3,500 buy-in tournament began in late April at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, where it played down to the final six. Play was paused for a few weeks and the remaining players traveled across the country to the Esports Arena at Luxor.

The champ can’t spend much time celebrating his big win because less than 20 hours after winning the SHRPS, he’ll return to the same venue to compete at the final table of the WPT Choctaw tournament, where he also holds the chip lead. First place in that event pays $400,740 and he could become the first player ever to win World Poker Tour events in consecutive days.

Weng Loses Lead, Rallies to Win

bin weng wpt poker
Bin Weng

Weng entered the final table with larger than a 2-1 chip advantage over everyone else. Early on, he was pretty much unstoppable and quickly extended his lead.

The shortest stack entering the final table, Rafael Farah, was his first victim and went home in sixth place for $238,000. Jack Thu was next out the door in fifth place ($312,000) when he moved all in preflop with a weaker ace to that of Weng, who held on in the hand.

Weng won a race to eliminate David Mzareulov in fourth place ($550,000) and had over 70% of all chips in play at that point. Shortly after, he’d win a 60/40 to take out Mitch Garshofsky (third place for $745,000), which brought about heads-up play against Sridhar Sangannagari who’d never won a live poker tournament.

When heads-up play in the 612-player tournament began, Weng had more than a 4-1 chip advantage and seemed to be unstoppable. But the wheels would quickly come off when his opponent started to pick up a couple of small pots right off the bat, and then Sangannagari would continue to chip away at that lead.

Before long, the match was almost even, and then it turned completely around when Weng attempted a massive bluff with jack-high that didn’t get through against middle pair. All of a sudden, Sangannagari was in the lead by nearly 2-1 and had all the momentum on his side.

But Weng’s been on such a heater this year — two major tournament wins already in 2023 entering the SHRPS. The contest would turn back around in the red hot poker pro’s favor with 77 on a flop of 872 when his opponent jammed all in with QQ. There would be no two-outer on the turn or river and just like that, Weng was back out in front.

For more than a half hour following, the heads-up competitors would battle back and forth before Sangannagari went all in with top pair on the river only to find out Weng had rivered the nut straight. That left the player with the losing hand down to crumbs and would soon bow out in second place for $745,000.

Weng now has two seven-figure scores already this year. In January, he took down The Return, a $5,300 buy-in tournament at Borgata in Atlantic City, for $1,000,000.

He can’t win another million on Friday, but he can become a poker legend and pull off one of the most impressive accomplishments in poker history if he goes back-to-back at WPT Choctaw.

Illinois Social Services Manager Arrested for Gambling With $1.6m in Daycare Funds

Kids at daycare

Shauntelle Pridgeon was supposed to approve daycare providers for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), but instead, she allegedly used her role as manager to steal at least $1.6m and use that money to gamble. Her scheme was uncovered last summer and she was charged with fraud earlier this month, but it wasn’t until this week that Pridgeon was arrested and the charges were unsealed.

Pridgeon worked as a social service community planner for DCFS starting in 2015 and began her alleged scam the following year. The DCFS paid daycare providers for their services to children that were under the department’s care, but according to the Chicago Sun-Times, federal authorities allege that “at least 15 child care providers paid at least $1.6 million into a private bank account controlled by Pridgeon and her spouse.”

Pridgeon netted $2.2m in gambling losses from January 2015 through November 2022

She then used that money to gamble, primarily on slot machines. Records show that Pridgeon netted $2.2m in gambling losses from January 2015 through November 2022.

Pridgeon was ultimately found out when a supervisor discovered that a childcare provider that she approved had received $280,000 from the state, despite not having actually taken care of any children. The supervisor asked Pridgeon for her files on the provider, but she didn’t have them. Another employee got the files for the supervisor, but Pridgeon took them from that employee and later threw them in the garbage.

Will Bin Weng Make Poker History at WPT Final Tables This Week?

Bin Weng has an opportunity to become a poker legend this week when he attempts to take down consecutive World Poker Tour (WPT) final tables.

At 4:30 p.m. PT on Thursday, the live-stream for the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown kicked off with the six players who advanced to Las Vegas following the conclusion of the Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood (Florida) portion earlier this month.

When play began, Weng had more than a 2-1 chip advantage over everyone else at the table. While that alone might not be significant news — there’s often a big chip leader in major tournaments — the Chinese-born poker pro who now resides in Philadelphia is playing for even more this weekend than just the potential $1,128,250 first place prize in the current event.

Two World Poker Tour Final Tables in a Row

Regardless of where Weng finishes up at the SHRPS final table on Thursday, he’ll have to refocus on Friday. That’s because he also reached the finale of the WPT Choctaw event two weeks ago in Durant, Oklahoma, which also wraps at Luxor’s Esports Arena in Las Vegas.

Weng is also the chip leader in the Choctaw tournament, although his advantage is slimmer. Should he win both, he’d be the first to ever win consecutive World Poker Tour events, and it would go down as one of, if not the best accomplishment in poker history, not just the WPT.

What’s even crazier is Weng’s heater spans far beyond what he’s done this month in WPT events. The former restaurant industry worker took down the $5,300 buy-in The Return at Borgata in January for $1,000,000, beating out 1,142 entries. One month later, he shipped his first World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) ring in Las Vegas for $227,344, outlasting a field of 833 players.

And just for good measure, in the two weeks since Choctaw, he cashed in three high roller events at The Lodge Card Club in Austin, Texas. The heater was a surprise to Weng, who told PokerNews after reaching the Choctaw final table that he struggled last year.

“I was not doing so great in the second half of 2022,” Weng said. “I skipped a couple of events, I spent a month at home. I skipped a WSOP ring series, studying at home. So I changed my strategy a little bit. I hope that works, but I know I’m just running good, running pure this year in a lot of big spots.”

Weng said that he played too passive prior to 2023 and is now playing more aggressive. According to Hendon Mob, he already has nearly $1.8 million in live tournament cashes this year and could add more than $1 million more this week in Las Vegas. On top of that, he could go down as pulling off one of the greatest accomplishments in World Poker Tour — no, poker history.

Jiggities Hold For Brad Owen to Advance to Televised WPT Gardens Final Table

Brad Owen entered Day 4 of the World Poker Tour (WPT) $5,250 buy-in Gardens Poker Championship with 15 big blinds and a dream as he looked to survive the two eliminations needed to advance to the six-handed televised final table.

The popular vlogger and WPT ambassador did so and will now head to Las Vegas to finish out the event inside the HyperX ESports Arena at the Luxor alongside fellow final tablists Ryan Salunga, Ky Nguyen, Chris Lee, Josh Lachman and Joey Deluca.

Everything Owen on Day 4

Day 4 was a quick one as short stacks Steven Spunt and Thomas Choi were both eliminated within the first hour of play by none other than Owen. The veteran poker content creator first picked up his trademark “pocket jiggities” to oust Spunt, whose ace-king couldn’t hit to send him out in 8th place for $42,200.

“Best jiggities ever,” Owen told WPT. “I looked down at it, and I’m sure it wasn’t really visible but I kind of chuckled in my head a little bit and I was like ‘Oh this is fitting,’ I’m either going to get knocked out with the jiggities, or get a massive double-up to get us down to seven.”

Even more fitting was that the star of the final table went on to eliminate Choi despite being dominated with ace-seven against Choi’s Big Slick. The stars were clearly aligned for Owen on Day 4 and he will now enter the televised final table with a much healthier stack of 45 big blinds.

A fourth-place finish or better will give Owen, who is primarily a cash game player, a career-best score after pivoting to tournaments last year.

Each remaining player is after their first WPT title and the $357,380 up top for first place. The eventual winner will also receive a unique sculpture trophy designed by American artist Daniel Arsham and will also get a seat into the $10,000 WPT World Championship in December.

West Indies’ Wicketkeeper Devon Thomas Suspended, Charged for Cricket Match Fixing

West Indies’ Wicketkeeper Devon Thomas Suspended, Charged for Cricket Match Fixing

Just a few months after 33-year-old Antigua and Barbuda cricketer Devon Thomas made his West Indies Test debut, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has hit the wicketkeeper with seven charges linked to fixing cricket matches.

Last week, Cricket West Indies (CWI) picked Thomas for an upcoming one-day international series against the United Arab Emirates, suggesting the selectors were unaware of the ICC investigation. The West Indian cricket body took to Twitter on Tuesday with a link to an official statement on Martin’s charges and immediate suspension:

CWI said it was “aware” that the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit had brought charges against Thomas and that while it “remains firm in denouncing corruption in cricket,” it would not make any further comments in relation to the cricketer’s charges.

fix, contrive or influence improperly the result, progress, conduct or other aspects of matches”

CWI, however, cited the ICC’s charges as stating Thomas contrived or was involved in an deal “to fix or attempt to fix, contrive or influence improperly the result, progress, conduct or other aspects of matches in the Lanka Premier League 2021.”

The ICC also charged Thomas under several other codes, including failing to disclose full details of an approach in Abu Dhabi T10 2021 and the Caribbean Premier League 2021.

All-rounder Thomas, who has played 21 ODIs, 12 T20s, and the one Test in December, has 14 days starting May 23, 2023 to respond to the ICC’s charges.
