Oakland A’s Now Looking to Build Stadium On Strip Near World Series of Poker

Oakland A's Now Looking to Build Stadium On Strip Near World Series of Poker

The saga of a Major League Baseball (MLB) stadium coming to Las Vegas took yet another turn as reports emerged this week that the Oakland A’s are now considering building a stadium at the current Tropicana site, just a few blocks away from where the World Series of Poker (WSOP) is played annually.

Earlier this year, multiple news outlets reported that the Oakland A’s were considering building the stadium at various Las Vegas locations, including the Tropicana site on the south end of the Strip and the Las Vegas Festival grounds on the north end of the Strip. They were also considering building it at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino — which hosted the WSOP for 17 years — giving credibility to longstanding rumors spearheaded by Las Vegas blogger Scott Roeben, who runs Vital Vegas.

More recently, the team entered a binding agreement to build the stadium on Red Rock Resorts property, according to The Nevada Independent.

Now, the newspaper reports that the A’s have pivoted from that agreement and plan to build the stadium at the Tropicana site. Bally’s Corp plans to demolish the casino to make way for the $1.5 billion stadium, which would hold 35,000 seats and be equipped with a retractable roof.

New Site May Save the Team Millions

If the stadium is built at the Tropicana site, it will mark the end of an iconic Las Vegas casino that first opened its doors in 1957, though a new 1,500-room hotel would be built as part of the deal.

There is a clear financial upside to building the stadium at this location. According to The Nevada Independent, the move would reduce the amount of public funding sought for the project from $500 million to $395 million.

An official proposal has yet to be put together and would need approval from the Nevada Legislature. The legislative session is currently underway and is set to adjourn on June 5.

Will It Impact the WSOP?

Notably, the Tropicana site that may host a new MLB stadium is just a ten-minute drive from Horseshoe Las Vegas, which in 2022 became the new home of the World Series of Poker.

One of the biggest concerns about the WSOP’s move was that it would increase congestion as tens of thousands of poker players made their way onto the already busy Strip. Those concerns ended up being largely unfounded and the majority of players found themselves satisfied with the transition.

Similarly, some on social media voiced worry that putting a new sports stadium on the Strip would increase congestion.

“Imagine the congestion nightmare at this location if there were two or more major events happening on the same night (Golden Knights, Vegas A’s, Boxing/UFC, Raiders, and concerts, etc),” said Twitter user Matt Barnett.

Whatever the case, it will be several years before a new stadium reaches Las Vegas, so the 2023 WSOP will not be impacted. According to The Nevada Independent, construction on the project would begin in 2024 and the stadium would open in 2027 or 2028.

Alan Keating is in for Over $1 Million on High Stakes Poker and is Ready to Battle JRB

Alan Keating is in for Over $1 Million on High Stakes Poker and is Ready to Battle JRB

PokerGO released the newest edition of High Stakes Poker Season 10 — Episode 14 — Tuesday night, and high roller Alan Keating was into the $200/$400 cash game for more than $1 million.

Keating, who rose to poker fame on Hustler Casino Live over the past year, isn’t afraid to make big plays and splash chips around. During this action-packed episode, he went to battle multiple times with a High Stakes Poker veteran, Jean-Robert Bellande.

Those two popular poker pros were seated at a table that also included Jeremy Stein, Stanley Choi, Stanley Tang, and Eric Hicks. Here’s a look at the stack sizes that were displayed early in the show:

Player Stack
Alan Keating $1,098,900
Jean-Robert Bellande $517,800
Jeremey Stein $501,100
Stanley Choi $246,800
Stanley Tang $185,100
Eric Hicks $146,400

With Keating straddling, Bellande raised to $3,000 with QJ from early position before getting three-bet to $11,000 from Stein, who had 1010 on the button. Hicks then woke up with KK in the big blind and three-bet it to $35,000. Only the pocket 10’s made the call.

The flop came 993 and the big blind led for the same $35,000 bet, and he received a call. When the A appeared on the turn, both players were concerned with the over-card, so they both checked to see the 5 on the river, which gave Stein a flush for a suck-out. Once again both players checked and Stein took down a $144,000 pot.

Moments later, Stein would win a decent-sized pot with pocket aces against Bellande. He’d then pick up KK and faced a three-bet to $8,000 from Tang, who was holding 76. Stein four-bet it to $27,500 and his opponent made the call.

The flop ran out 745, and both players loved it. Stein, however, went for a sneaky check, and then the DoorDash founder over-bet jammed all in for $148,000. That earned a snap-call, and the players agreed to run it twice.

On the first run out, it came 5 followed by the A, clean for the kings. Stein would then collect the entire $354,200 pot when the second run out went 2 and J. Tang then rebought in for another $200,000.

Later in the show, Stein would win another huge pot, this one against Hicks again. Hicks picked the wrong time to make a $50,000 bluff wager on the turn with eight-high because Stein was sitting there with the nuts. He went for an all in raise and then promptly took down the pot when his opponent couldn’t even consider making the call.

Bellande and Keating Battle for Some Big Pots

Alan Keating

During Episode 14 of High Stakes Poker, JRB and Keating faced off multiple times, starting with the following two hands. In the first one, Bellande raised to $800 from early position with AK, and then Keating made it $5,000 on the button with 87. Choi, in the big blind with Q9, made the call before JRB four-bet it to $35,000, getting a call only from Keating.

The AK3 flop appeared to be an action-killer considering Bellande had his opponent drawing only to runner-runners. When both players checked, the 7 appeared on the turn and it again went check-check.

Bellande couldn’t get Keating to bite and the 5 finally convinced JRB to bet, and he did to the tune of $55,000 but received no action.

These two poker players would tangle heads-up again with $41,000 already in the pot heading to a flop of 234, giving both players a gutter ball and no pair with Bellande sitting on A7 and Keating holding AQ. Bellande checked and then called a $25,000 bet.

The turn was the 8, no help to either player and they each checked. When the K on the river again didn’t improve either hand, they checked it around and Keating grabbed the $91,000 pot.

Bellande was quite active on Episode 14. He played a number of sizable pots, including a late one against Choi.

In the hand in question, the double straddle was on and Choi started off the action with a raise to $4,000 with 87. Bellande called on the button with QJ, while Stein made it $12,200 from the small blind with AJ. Choi and JRB both called and the flop came out 474, connecting with Choi and Bellande.

The action checked around to the turn, which was the Q, giving Bellande top pair to go along with his flush draw. Stein, who had nothing but ace-high, led out for $18,000 and both players made the call. When the Q was turned over on the river, Stein thought better of it, and checked, as did Choi.

Bellande, however, wasn’t going to check his trips back in position, so he ripped off a wager of $43,000, looking for maximum value, which he’d get from Choi, who made the call with an inferior hand to finish off the show.

Bet365 to Pony Up $691k for Using Images of EPL Soccer Stars Including Eriksen, Schmeichel

Christian Eriksen

Despite Bet365 arguing it had used images of 23 Danish athletes without their permission for editorial content purposes only, Denmark’s Maritime and Commercial Court has ruled otherwise, ordering the UK-based online gambling firm to pay DKK 4.7m ($691,128) in compensation.

The Sø-og Handelsretten’s ruling on Monday was that use of the images counted as marketing, and that Bet365 should have asked the individuals for their consent before using their intellectual property (IP) on social media.

Denmark national soccer team stars Christian Eriksen, Kasper Schmeichel, and Simon Kjaer

The 23 include Denmark national soccer team stars Christian Eriksen, Kasper Schmeichel, and Simon Kjaer, handball champion Mikkel Hansen, and badminton player and Olympian Viktor Axelsen.

Danish national daily Berlingske reported that Manchester United midfielder Eriksen had his image used the most and therefore the verdict awarded him the largest sum of DKK 1.45m ($213,730).

The Danish Players’ Association represented 21 of the 23 athletes. Association director Michael Sahl Hansen stated his body was “happy that the court has drawn a thick line under the fact that it requires consent to use the players’ images or names.”

Billy_Slater Secures 888poker $100K Mystery Bounty Title

Billy_Slater Secures 888poker $100K Mystery Bounty Title

888poker continues pulling out all of the stops regarding its mystery bounty tournaments, as it hosted another $109 buy-in $100,000 guaranteed affair this weekend.

A total of 945 players competed, made up of 785 unique entries and 160 rebuys, leaving 888poker with a slight overlay on the generous $100,000 guarantee, not that those who finished in the money places minded because it represented even more value for them.

The largest of the mystery bounty payments tipped the scales at $10,000, a welcome addition to any poker player’s bankroll. Brazil’s “beijamyrola” got their hands on this huge bounty despite falling in 112nd place! The $10,139 they took home was more than any of the other entrants, including “Billy_Slater,” the eventual champion!

A special mention also goes to 888poker ambassador Ian “Simpioni” Simpson. The popular grinder crashed out in 60th place for a $145 score, but Simpson pulled out several bounties, including one worth $3,000, to make for a profitable evening at the virtual felt.

$100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event Final Table Results

Place Player Country Bounties Prize Total Prize
1 Billy_Slater Chile $1,286 $7,740 $9,026
2 Diguiry Brazil $1,972 $5,645 $7,617
3 Luciole16 Kazahkstan $1,619 $4,150 $5,769
4 GuyWhite14 Canada $1,012 $3,075 $4,087
5 ProudToBeNIT Belarus $433 $2,275 $2,708
6 J0nSn0wShow Denmark $3,026 $1,700 $4,726
7 ChristaBorg Canada $826 $1,280 $2,106
8 fjreis Brazil $526 $970 $1,496
9 somebody888 Lithuania $93 $740 $833

Lithuania’s “somebody888” sat down at the final table with only 9.4 big blinds, so it was unsurprising to see them become the first casualty. They only last one hand after raising to seven big blinds with king-queen before calling the shove from “GuyWhite14,” who jammed with pocket jacks. somebody888 failed connect with the board, and was gone.

It took another 40 minutes before the final table lost another player. Brazil’s “fjreis” saw their stack dwindle to only 3.3 big blinds when they open-called with king-nine of diamonds in a clash with “ProudTobeNIT,” who three-bet with ace-eight of hearts. An eight on the flop proved enough to reduce the player count by one.

Seventh place and a total of $2,106 went to “ChristaBorg.” First, they lost a chunk of their stack when their ace-queen lost to pocket jacks. They then min-raised with ace-king of diamonds in the cutoff, “Luciole16” clicked it back to four big blinds in the small blind, before ChristaBorg jammed for 13.1 big blinds in total. Luciole16 instantly called, as would you had you been dealt pocket aces. ChristaBorg flopped a flush draw but the turn and river bricked.

“J0nSn0wShow” was sent packing 20 minute later when they open-shoved for only 3.4 big blinds with pocket threes from the button. Billy_Slater called in the big blind with ace-queen, which flopped a queen to send J0nSn0wShow home in sixth. J0nSn0wShow took home $4,087 thanks to opening $3,026 worth of bounties before busting.

A few moments after J0nSn0wShow’s demise, ProudToBeNIT joined the list of eliminated players. They moved all-in for 3.2 big blinds from the button with ace-four on the button, and Luciole16 called in the big blind with the dominated four-deuce. Luciole16’s hand only remained dominated until the flop because two deuces appeared; ProudToBeNIT was drawing dead by the turn.

The final four became three when Canada’s GuyWhite14 was wiped out by Luciole16. From the button, Luciole16 min-raised with pocket queens, and called the 11.6 big blind shove from GuyWhite14, which they made with ace-four from the small blind. An eight-high board was no help to GuyWhite14, and they headed to the showers.

Luciole16 bowed out in third despite being the chip leader going into three-handed play. They lost a decent percentage of their stack bluffing into a pair of queens, then got a little too frisky with a straight draw when their opponent had a straight. Luciole16 committed their last 9.3 big blinds with ace-ten after Billy_Slater had min-raised with ace-deuce. Billy_Slater called, and flopped a deuce, turned an ace, and busted the dangerous Luciole16.

Billy_Slater held a two-to-one chip lead going into the one-on-one clash with “Diguiry.” The battle was over after only a couple of hands. Billy_Slater moved all-in with nine-deuce of diamonds, and Diguiry called off their 13.5 big blind stack with ace-queen. A nine on the flop and another on the river brought the latest $100,000 Mystery Bounty event to a thrilling conclusion.

Results of first time depositors (FTD) study revealed

Results of first time depositors (FTD) study revealed

In the online casino industry, attracting new players remains a fundamental challenge, with operators consistently seeking innovative means to generate additional first-time depositors (FTDs) and establish lasting relationships with them. Bojoko, an award-winning affiliate, has conducted a year-long analysis of all casino bonus sites listed on their platform, evaluating the amounts and types of bonuses offered and how they impacted FTD generation.

The study, which has been published on LinkedIn, found that there are five factors that had a drastic impact on how likely their users were to register and deposit at any given casino. These were low deposit limits, no deposit bonuses, no wagering bonuses, high percentage bonuses, and different deposit methods.

FTD Study Results

“We are very excited to be able to reveal these results, and be able to highlight opportunities for increasing FTDs that may be a little less intuitive. It is common for operators to offer bonuses to increase their FTDs, and this indeed works, but our study revealed that one of the most effective strategies to increase FTD numbers is simply to lower the deposit limits. Operator who set deposit limits at £5 instead of the more common £10 or £20, experienced an increase of 3-8 FTDs each month, just from our platform alone, and the lower the minimum deposit, the higher the FTDs. Operators who set their deposit limit to £3 saw an increase of 10-20 FTDs per month, while those willing to set the limit to £1 were able to get 100 to 140 FTDs additional FTDs per month.”, said Joonas Karhu, CEO of Bojoko

According to Karhu, players are more likely to test a website before investing a significant amount of money. By setting low deposit limits, online gambling operators can create a positive player experience and establish brand credibility and customer loyalty. Though the initial investment may be lower, offering lower deposit limits can increase overall transaction volume, providing a competitive advantage over time.

As Karhu noted, the traditional approach of offering appealing casino bonuses were shown to still be an effective strategy. No deposit bonuses, which provides players with the opportunity to win real money without making a deposit, where shown to result in 8 to 20 additional FTDs.

No-Wagering Bonuses

Meanwhile, no-wagering bonuses were found to have an even greater impact on FTDs, with an average of 40 additional FTDs generated per month.  These findings emphasize the potential advantages that can be derived by online casinos through the incorporation of no-wagering bonuses into their marketing strategies, as they can serve as a compelling incentive for attracting new players and promoting first-time deposits.

Increasing the bonus percentage in the welcome bonus, were also shown to have a big impact. Bojoko’s study showed that operators that offer a 200% deposit bonus would be able to expect an additional 8-15 FTDs per month.

“Today most casinos simply offer welcome bonuses of 100%, meaning that the initial deposit is doubled. Simply increasing the bonus percentage to 150% gives operators a way to stand out, but those willing to go 200% and beyond face much better rewards. Our data shows that offering a 500% deposit bonus can lead to exceptional conversion rates.”, Karhu adds.

Deposit Methods

Beyond low deposit limits and bonuses, the study also showcases that it can be beneficial to offer a wide range of deposit methods. PayByPhone options as well as ApplePay were highlighted as key examples. Adding what Bojoko refers to as niche deposit methods gave operators an additional 10-15 FTDs per month.

“While niche payment methods may have a smaller number of users, the fact that most casinos don’t offer them means there is a lot less competition. A casino that does not offer a niche payment method will miss out on appealing to this userbase, and thus lose potential FTDs they would otherwise have secured.”, explains Karhu.

Christian “WATnlos” Rudolph Banks More Than $193K During Opening SCOOP Events

Christian "WATnlos" Rudolph Banks More Than $193K During Opening SCOOP Events

The PokerStars Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) always draws the very best poker tournament players out of the woodwork thanks to the massive prizes awarded and the prestige of becoming a SCOOP champion. Christian “WATnlos” Rudolph is one of many PokerStars players that plays a busy schedule during SCOOP, and when elite-level players log plenty of volume, stellar results tend to follow.

Rudolph helped himself to more than $193,000 across three marvellous SCOOP results. He twice finished third and took down a side event, as he started the 2023 SCOOP campaign in brilliant style.

The first of Rudolph’s two third-place finishes came in the SCOOP Edition of the $5,200 Titans Event, a tournament that saw 116 players battle it out for a slice of a $580,000 prize pool.

As you would expect from such a high-stakes event, the Titans Event drew in some of the biggest names in poker, and the final table was as stacked as it could be.

Pedro “pvigar” Garagnani ($16,883) and Ole “wizowizo” Schemion ($21,307) were the first two casualties of the final table. Former PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event champion Dimitar “KuuL” Danchev ($27,500) busted in seventh, with Germany’s “Sintoras” ($35,494) seeing their tournament end in sixth.

Estonia grinder Juanki “B4KR0LL3R” Vecino ($45,811) ran out of steam in fifth, Jon “apestyles” Van Fleet crashed out in fourth ($59,128), prompting the three surviving players to pause the tournament clock and discuss a deal.

Those negotiations ended in success, with Rudolph locking in $96,405 and third place, Alexandros “Pwndidi” Theologis finishing second for $100,536, and Hungary’s “boerni21” being crowned champion and receiving $104,998.

Rudolph went on to finish third in the $109 Sunday Warm-Up for $32,629 before taking down the $5,200 Super Tuesday 2nd Chance for $64,128. What an incredible start to SCOOP for Rudolph.

Jerry Odeen Shines During PartyPoker MILLIONS Online KO Early Stages

Jerry Odeen Shines During PartyPoker MILLIONS Online KO Early Stages

Swedish grinder Jerry Odeen has started the PartyPoker MILLIONS Online KO like a house on fire, taking down the Opener event and building a large stack in the $500,000 guaranteed Main Event during the festival’s opening weekend.

Odeen has more than $1.2 million in live poker tournament winnings, and almost $10 million in cashes in the online poker world. It appears Odeen will smash through the $10 million barrier by the time the final MILLIONS Online KO event crowns its champion.

Odeen was one of 873 PartyPoker players that entered the $162 buy-in $100,000 guaranteed Opener event. All those entrants meant a $130,950 prize pool, almost a third more than the advertised guarantee.

With bounties included, none of the seven finalists won less than $1,807, which was the sum Vyacheslav Balayev banked when his tournament ended in seventh place.

Sixth place and $2,665 went to the United Kingdom’s Callum Gordno, before Allison Luan Lima Eleres fell in fifth for a $3,768 payday.

Another UK-based player, Robertas Gordonas, collected $4,456 for his fourth-place finish, and the MILLIONS Online KO Opener progressed to the heads-up stage when Dominik Siegl came unstuck in third; Siegl turned his $162 investment into $6,526.

Odeen and Elvis Renan fought tooth and nail in the one-on-one battle knowing they had locked in no less than $8,655 for their efforts. However, both players had busted many opponents on their way to heads-up, so the final bounty payments were substantial.

Renan had eliminated 14 opponents on his way to clashing with Odeen, but a 15th scalp eluded him. Renan fell in second place for a total score worth $12,934, leaving Odeen to win the first MILLIONS Online KO numbered event, a result worth $17,006.

Patrick Leonard Goes Back-to-Back in the PartyPoker Sunday Party!

Brazilians Dominate the MILLIONS Online KO Edition of the Sunday Party

The Sunday Party, PartyPoker’s flagship tournament, received the MILLIONS Online KO treatment this weekend. The guarantee returned to $150,000 but 1,620 entrants meant $162,000 was paid out.

PartyPoker is popular with Brazilian players, who often turn out in force for the online poker site’s biggest events. This was the case during the weekend, with five of the nine players at the Sunday Party final table having the famous Brazilian flag next to their names.

The first three players to be eliminated from the final table hailed from Brazil. Jonathan Wolter, Raphael Perfeito, and Joao Gabriel Stazite fell in quick succession, leaving only two of their countrymen in the hunt for the title and a five-figure payout.

One of those Brazilians, Danil Pires Martiani, busted in fourth for $5,906. Andrey Luis Da Silva was now Brazil’s sole representative at the final table, and they were determined to bring home the bacon.

After Bulgari’a Boyan Toshev bowed out in third, Da Silva demolished Denmark’s Cosmo Bendtsen heads-up, and clinched the title plus $17,389. Bendtsen, although disappointed not to become a MILLIONS Online KO champion, walked away with $10,263, giving them plenty of ammunition for the remainder of the series.

Sports Betting Hub Designed for Women Launches Online

Two women at a sports bar excited about a bet on a phone

A new platform run by women and dedicated to growing sports betting amongst women called BettingLadies.com launched Tuesday.

“The genesis of BettingLadies.com is about making sports betting more accessible for women,” said Val C. Martinez, CEO and Founder of BettingLadies.com. “I looked for content to help educate myself as a bettor, but found the majority of resources were clearly created to be consumed by a male audience.”

the female demographic comprises roughly one-third of the sports betting market

According to Martinez, the female demographic comprises roughly one-third of the sports betting market but often does not have access to platforms or resources built for them, hence the launch of BettingLadies.com.

Visitors will find news, odds, picks, standings, and more for a variety of sports and leagues. MLB, NBA, and NHL have all been given designated dropdown menus on the home page.

“Beyond the launch, our goal is to evolve BettingLadies.com to be synonymous with the betting experience for women,” said Martinez. “We’ll soon begin creating in-person regional betting events based on the growth of our community.”

Professional wrestler, actor and model Danielle Kamela has already teamed up with the site. She’ll provide a variety of content in multiple sports and will pick up with the NFL when the season starts this fall.
