Three Live-Streamed WPT Final Tables Will Play Out in Las Vegas This Week

Three Live-Streamed WPT Final Tables Will Play Out in Las Vegas This Week

There will be three consecutive live-streamed World Poker Tour final tables this week as the WPT team heads to the HyperX ESports Arena at the Luxor in Las Vegas.

First up will be the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown final table on May 25, followed by the WPT Choctaw final table the next day. On May 27, the WPT Gardens Poker Championship will close out the busy WPT week.

  • May 25 – WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Final Table
  • May 26 – WPT Choctaw Final Table
  • May 27 – WPT Gardens Poker Championship Final Table

Before any of that, the WPT Gardens Poker Championship needs to play down to a final six. There are two tables left with Day 3 underway and a fourth day scheduled to take place May 25.

The live streams will kick off each day at 4:30 p.m. Vegas time and will be available on WPT’s YouTube and Twitch channels, as well as on Facebook and other platforms. The streams will feature commentary from award-winning commentators Jamie Kerstetter and Jeff Platt.

Can Weng Close Out?

All eyes will be on Bin Weng as he enters the final table of history’s second-largest WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown. Not only does Weng have the chip lead, but he also sits atop the remaining six at the WPT Choctaw final table.

In the first event, Weng sits comfortably above Sridhar Sangannagari and Mitch Garshofsky with David Mzareulov and Naing Thu further behind and Rafael Farah Jarufe entering the final table as the short stack.

Each player is after their first WPT title and the $1,128,250 up top for the champion.

Weng will also have to fend off two-time WPT Champion Erkut Yilmaz, who will enter as a short stack as he fights for a third title. Texas’ Dojie Ignacio and Arkansas’ Rusty Farrin round out the WPT Choctaw final tables as both are guaranteed a career-best score as they chase the $400,740 top prize.

WPT500 Mexico City Event is a Hybrid Online-Live Poker Tournament

WPT500 Mexico City Event is a Hybrid Online-Live Poker Tournament

The World Poker Tour (WPT) has something exciting underway on its WPT Global platform — a hybrid online and live poker tournament that will pay out at least $500,000 in Mexico later this month.

For $550, players can enter the OnLive competition on WPT Global, and those who reach Day 2 will head to Mexico City for the live poker portion of the tournament. That will take place May 31 at Frontón México Centro de Entretenimiento, a venue that hosts top-level entertainment.

Poker Tournaments in Mexico

The WPT500 tournament, part of WPT Mexico Feria, isn’t the only big event planned. There will also be a $5,000 WPT Mystery Bounty, and the World Poker Tour will add on an extra $50,000 Mystery Bounty pool.

Day 1 in the $550 no-limit hold’em tournament began April 9 with the first opening starting flight. On Sunday (May 21), WPT Global will host the final Day 1 session, beginning at 2:30 p.m. PT. After that, those who are left will be entered into the Day 2 session on May 31 in Mexico City.

At present, 268 players have entered the tournament, with 31 moving on to Day 2. One out of every eight players who enter will reach the money. There is unlimited reentry in this event, but players only have one more opportunity to get in on the action (Sunday).

Players must have a WPT Global account to enter, and those who are residents of a country not served by WPT Global are not eligible to compete in these events. On May 30, the one and only live Day 1 starting flight will take place at the aforementioned venue in Mexico City. The players from that flight will join all the online qualifiers for Day 2 the following day.

WPT Global will also kick off its Spring Festival May 21, which includes dozens of events such as the WPT Prime Online Championship, a $1,060 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament with $200,000 guaranteed. The series runs through June 4.

MGM Springfield Fined $45,000 Over Latest Underage Gambling Violations

"NO ONE UNDER 21 YEARS OLD IS ALLOWED" sign on a door

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission’s (MGC) Investigations and Enforcement Bureau has fined MGM Springfield $45,000 for a range of underage gambling rules breaches.

Between June 2022 and December 2022, individuals who were younger than 21 years old were able to access the casino resort’s gaming floor and engage in gambling. MGM Springfield previously paid an $18,000 fine in 2021 and a $100,000 penalty in 2019 for similar infractions.

ongoing cooperation to put enhanced practices into place to prevent similar incidents in the future”

The Gaming Commission noted that the casino self-reported some of the incidents and will pay the fine. MGC Senior Enforcement Counsel Kathleen Kramer welcomes the casino’s “ongoing cooperation to put enhanced practices into place to prevent similar incidents in the future.” The MGC will monitor the property’s remedial and compliance steps going forward.

One of the changes that MGM Springfield is making to try to curtail the entry of underage people is the installation of a security station close to the South End Market food court and additional railings. It could also potentially alter the wide-open layout of the gaming floor, but it still needs to fully analyze access and fire safety repercussions.

PokerStars Casino Offers Chance To Win Epic Las Vegas Formula One Experience

There has never been a better time to join PokerStars Casino, as they launch a new first deposit bonus that could send you to the Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix. This new Red Spade Pass experience is part of PokerStars’ extended deal with Oracle Red Bull Racing.

Oracle Red Bull Racing has become a source of several prize package giveaways under the Red Spade Pass banner.

PokerStars Casino also offers new players ten Spin Of The Day tickets just for creating an account. Spin Of The Day is an exclusive new game on Poker Stars Casino that allows players to win cash prizes and free spins.

All this is on top of the standard bonus offer of a 100% PokerStars Casino matched deposit bonus of up to £200.

Red Spade Pass To The Vegas Grand Prix

PokerStars and Oracle Red Bull Racing have worked together on previous Red Spade Pass experiences at F1 events. This time around, with the Las Vegas Grand Prix penciled in later this season, the synergy really pops.

Oracle Red Bull Racing currently holds the pole position in the 2023 F1 series, with their stellar team of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez taking first place in all five races and second place in four of them. Only an aberrant fifth-place finish for Perez in Australia ruined the team’s perfect run of 1-2 finishes.

There are several Red Spade Passes available for the LV Grand Prix, but by far, the lowest-effort way to earn a shot at one is simply to make your first deposit with PokerStars Casino.

Anyone who makes a first-time deposit of £20 or more between May 5 and July 10, 2023, will be entered into a draw. There is one pass up for grabs. The winner of this pass will get the following for themselves and a plus one:

  • A VIP viewing experience in the three days leading up to the Grand Prix.
  • Economy return flights from the UK to Las Vegas.
  • Four or five nights in a shared four-star hotel room in central Las Vegas.
  • Transport between the hotel, viewing experience, and airport.
  • Other exclusive activities TBC.

Previous Red Spade Pass winners have been sent to the Grand Prix at Monte Carlo, Silverstone, and Sao Paulo.

There have also been Red Spade Pass experiences that extend beyond the race track and have included experiences at the hockey rink and even a Joe Stapleton hosted basketball and poker experience.

APAT Veteran Richard Baker Wins UK Amateur Championship

APAT Veteran Richard Baker Wins UK Amateur Championship

Richard Baker is a long-standing member of the vibrant Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT) community, and has tasted plenty of success on the amateur circuit. Baker added his first APAT gold medal to his collection this weekend, which now keeps his six other medals company, after taking down the £50,000 guaranteed UK Amateur Poker Championship Main Event.

After an online Day 1 at GGPoker, and four flights at the home of British poker, Dusk Till Dawn, 475 players bought into the Main Event. Seventy-two of those starters navigated their way to Day 2, having locked in a min-cash of £200 for their efforts.

APAT regulars, including Paul Haycock, Peter Wigglesworth, Tristan Chaplin, and Andrea King cashed in the £120 buy-in Main Event, although they fell short of a final table appearance.

APAT UK Amateur Championship Main Event Final Table Results

Place Player Prize
1 Richard Baker £7,500
2 David Collier £4,750
3 Tahir Ahmed £3,000
4 Zsolt Burkus £2,400
5 Dan Owston £2,000
6 Warwick Brindley £1,700
7 Ben Burnhill £1,500
8 Gaurav Gupta £1,300
9 Michael Simpson £1,100

Each of the nine amateurs that sat down at the final table secured at least £1,100 for their efforts, but each of them had an eye on the top three finishing places where the coveted APAT medals awaited.

Michael Simpson (£1,100) and Gaurav Gupta (£1,300) were the first two finalists to find themselves in the wrong side of the rail. Ben Burnhill (£1,500) and Warwick Brindgley (£1,700) joined the ever-growing list of eliminated players before Dan Owston, champion of the 2022 World Championship of Amateur Poker Main Event, fell in fifth (£2,000).

The final four locked horns knowing the next player heading to the showers would be doing so, having narrowly missed out on an APAT medal. Zsolt Burkus was that unfortunate soul, although their fourth-place finish did pad their bankroll to the tune of £2,400.

APAT Announces Partnership with GGPoker

Third place, £3,000, and a bronze medal went to Tahir Ahmed, who got his stack in with ten-nine, having improved to a queen-high straight on the all-club flop. David Collier looked up Ahmed with a pair of black aces in the hole and proceeded to hit a flush on the river.

Collier and Baker fought tooth and nail one-on-one for 20 minutes before something finally gave. A huge pot went Baker’s way when both he and Collier made two pair but Baker’s king-kicker played. That hand gifted Baker a monster-sized advantage of 45 million to 2 million chips.

Collier three-bet all-in on the next hand with king-eight, only to discover Baker was sat there with pocket kings; Baker made one of the easier calls of his career. The five community cards failed to come to Collier’s rescue, and he consoled himself with a £4,750 second place prize, plus a silver APAT medal. A delighted Baker reeled in £7,500 in prize money plus the all-important gold APAT medal.

A trip to the Grosvenor Maybury Casino in Edinburgh, Scotland, is next up for APAT players, the venue for the Scottish Amateur Poker Championship. It marks the first time since March 2020 that APAT has headed north of the border for the Scottish Amateur Poker Championship.

Back then, the Main Event commanded a £90 buy-in, and saw Michel Yacoub come out on top of a 132-strong field to bank £2,800 of the £9,900 prize pool. Will Yacoub be in town to defend his title? We only have until June 9 to wait.

Ex-State Trooper Confesses to Tipping Off Illegal $10m Gambling Ring

New York State police car

Former New York State Police (NYSP) trooper Thomas J. Loewke, 51, has pleaded guilty before US District Judge David G. Larimer to tipping off members of an unlawful $10m sports gambling ring in Rochester to ongoing investigations.

US Attorney Trini E. Ross announced last week that Loewke confessed to “obstruction of a state or local law enforcement investigation.” The news arm of the US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York took to Twitter to share the guilty plea:

In January, the DOJ charged Loewke for his role in the illegal gambling operation, which was managed by multiple owners through accounts on the website sport700.com. Last week, Assistant US Attorney Meghan K. McGuire stated that in October 2020, local and federal law enforcement started a probe into the illegal gambling activities of Louis P. Ferrari II and others.

changing the password, appearance, and history of bets

According to the DOJ news release, Loewke disclosed the existence of a police investigation to Ferrari. In turn, Ferrari used the information and tried to mislead the investigation by changing the password, appearance, and history of bets placed through his sports betting website.

While multiple charges including money laundering remain pending against Ferrari, Loewke will learn of his fate when Judge Larimer sentences him on September 6. The ex-state trooper faces a maximum five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

PokerStars’ Sebastian Huber Turns $55 into a $76K SCOOP Payday

PokerStars' Sebastian Huber Turns $55 into a $76K SCOOP Payday

The 2023 Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) on PokerStars continues to roll on, and the big scores keep on coming for the platform’s ambassadors.

PokerStars’ Sebastian “peaceandloove” Huber picked up the biggest score of his career after turning $55 into a $76,066 payday. The Twitch streamer satellited into SCOOP 79-H: $5,200 High Roller and put in a huge run before bowing out in third place after a sick beat.

The High Roller had 112 entries and saw the prize pool swell to $560,000, smashing the $400,000 guarantee.

Career High Score for Huber

The first final table casualty came on the third hand of play where “hello_totti” ran their ace-king into pocket kings held by “Stumpfed” to give everyone a pay jump. Soon after, “P0KERPR02.0” headed to the wrong side of the rail after losing a flip to “ArtHouse2011” to bring the event to its final seven players.

Huber then found a double-up with ace-king through “Stumpfed”, who called the all in with a weaker ace.

Renan “Internett93o” Bruschi then jammed on the short-stacked Ognyan “cocojamb0” Dimov from the small blind with six-three and the latter called off his tournament life with king-ten. Bruschi paired his three on-the-flop and rivered trips to seal the elimination.

After a few more hands played out, “Stumpfed” moved all in from the small blind with jack-nine and was snapped by Bruschi from the big blind with ace-king. Bruschi would go on to make a royal flush to leave “Stumpfed” as the short stack. The next hand, Huber finished “Stumpfed” off after his pocket eights held against his opponent’s ace-ten.

Patrick “Pads1161” Leonard then bagged the fifth-pace prize of $44,383, just a day after picking up his seventh SCOOP title and $200,000. Back-to-back victories eluded Leonard as he was dominated by “ArtHouse2011” and couldn’t find the three-outer to double up.

At four-handed play, there were hints of a deal being made, but Bruschi declined that, despite being the short stack. That decision paid off hugely as “ArtHouse2011” completed the double bust out of Huber and Alexandros “Pwndidi” Theologis in dramatic fashion.

“ArtHouse2011”, the chip leader, shipped his stack in from the button with queen-ten. Theologis and Huber, who held pocket eights and queens respectively, called off their stacks from the blinds. “ArtHouse2011” paired his ten on the flop and then found another ten on the river to send out both players.

Then on the final hand of the night, Bruschi moved in with ace-six and his opponent called with king-queen. Bruschi made a pair of sixes on the flop but “ArtHouse2011” spiked a queen on the river to lock up the win.

All Eyes on Conclusion of Super Tuesday

Georgina James
Georgina James

Day 1 for the low, medium and high tiers for SCOOP 86 – Super Tuesday all played out yesterday, with the events playing down to a winner today.

In the low edition of the tournament, which had a $109 buy-in, PokerStars ambassador Georgina “GJReggie” James sits in 40th place out of the 100 players remaining where $59,210 awaits the winner. The tournament saw 4,156 entries, creating a $414,600 prize pool. “razvi_audi” currently holds the chip lead, with notable names such as Benny “RunGodlike” Glaser and Lucio “WizardOfAz” Lima still in contention.

Huber also has another chance of a big score in the medium tier of Super Tuesday. The $1,050 buy-in event has 28 players remaining, with Huber currently sitting at the bottom of the pile. He’s already locked up a cash of at least $4,386, but of course, all eyes will be on the $118,828 that awaits the winner.

The high instalment of the Super Tuesday events came with a $10,300 buy-in and a $600,000 guarantee. The prize pool now stands at $870,000 thanks to the 87 entries, with just nine remaining. And as expected with a High Roller, the final table is littered with star names.

A huge $207,901 is set aside for the champion, and you can see how that event unfolds on the PokerStars Twitch Channel, with cards-up coverage from 6 p.m. BST.

Atlantic City’s Nine Casinos’ Profit Declined by 15%

Atlantic City's Nine Casinos' Profit Declined by 15%

Associated Press reports that the Atlantic City’s casino industry collected an almost 15% lower gross operating profit in the first quarter of 2023 in comparison to the first quarter of the last year. According to the source, the nine casino operators in the city faced the increased operating costs over the given period.

Lower Operating Profit:

New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, as the regulatory body for the industry, reportedly released the report on May 22, 2023 to show that the Atlantic City’s casinos collectively generated an operating profit of $135.4 million in the quarter ending on March 31, 2023. The figure showing a $23.6 million lower operating profit of the nine casinos in Q1 2023 represents an almost 15 percent lower profit level than the $159 million mark collectively reached in the prior year’s quarter.

Higher Labor Costs:

Searching for the causes of the profit decline, Associated Press reports that James Plousis, chairman of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, said that the casinos are generally facing higher costs this year which have been the result of the significantly higher wages paid to staff that included housekeepers, porters, bartenders, and beverage servers under the contract agreed last summer with the employees.

Gross operating profit is the profit from selling goods or services in a particular period before costs are subtracted. The Atlantic City’s casino industry follows a widely accepted measure of profitability with gross operating profit reflecting earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization, and other charges (EBITDA).

Plousis reportedly said: “Compared to the first quarter last year, the casino hotels are employing more people and a progressive labor agreement was reached. These steps are emblematic of an industry that is preparing for growth and success.” Associated Press reports that Mark Giannantonio, president of Resorts casino and of the Casino Association of New Jersey, attributed the lower profitability levels to inflation.

Profitability by Operators:

As for the other casinos, their profitability figures in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the last year’s first quarter are as follows:

The Bally’s operating profit of $88,000 follows the $6.8 million last year’s loss. The Ocean Casino Resort’s profit was up 27.6%, to $23.6 million; the Harrah’s profit increased by 21%  to $19.2 million; Caesars’ profit grew 7%  to reach $11.3 million; Resorts had a $284,000 loss this year, down from the last year’s $527,000 profit.

The Borgata’s profit declined more than 50% to $22.8 million; Hard Rock – down 17.5%, to $22.2 million; Tropicana – down 15.3%, to $16.7 million. The Golden Nugget saw a profit of $4.8 million, going down from a $5.6 million profit in Q1 2022.

Online entities saw the following operating profit figures in Q1 2023: Resorts Digital – a 6% increase to $8 million, and Caesars Interactive Entertainment NJ had 13.2% lower levels to arrive at $6.8 million.  The room rental rates were in the $113 – $212 range, whereas the overall resort occupancy rate for the first quarter of 2023 was 65.2%, which is 2.1% more than the last year.

Everything You Need to Know About Spin Wheels in the PokerStars Play App

PokerStars Play Spin Wheels

Welcome to our comprehensive guide on everything you need to know about spin wheels in the PokerStars Play app. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player, this guide will help you understand and make the most of the exciting spin wheels feature. So, let’s dive right in.

PokerStars Play Spin Wheels

PokerStars Play spin wheels offer an entertaining and rewarding way for you to earn extra chips while enjoying their favorite games. Accessible via the game lobby, spin wheels can be found in the form of the ad wheel, the daily spin wheel, the jackpot spin wheel, and the premium spin wheel, each offering players the chance to win free chips.

Below, we’ll discuss how to use these features, the differences between each type, and some tips on getting the most out of them.

Did you know?

PokerStars Play is available worldwide, including in the United States and Australia. Still, please be aware that it doesn’t include real money gambling or an opportunity to win real money or prizes.

How to Use Spin Wheels in PokerStars Play

Getting started with spin wheels in PokerStars Play is quite simple. Follow these step-by-step instructions to make the most of this exciting feature:

  1. Launch the PokerStars Play app on your mobile device.
  2. Navigate to the game lobby.
  3. Locate the spin wheel icon.
  4. Tap on the spin wheel to spin it.
  5. Spin the wheel to win free chips.

But wait, there is more! There are multiple wheels available. So, let’s take a look at what each one offers.

Daily and Jackpot Wheels

This wheel is available to spin multiple times every day. In fact, you get a chance to spin the daily wheel every four hours. On each spin, you can win thousands of extra free coins which are added to your account and allow you to play any of the games on the app.
After completing five of these spins, you’ll unlock a jackpot bonus spin, offering even bigger rewards. Best of all, this is available for every five spins of the spin wheel and not just your first five. The number of coins available to win on this wheel is enhanced considerably.

Ad Wheel

In addition to your daily spin wheel that you can use, you can also take advantage of an ad wheel. This is also available in the main lobby and gives you a chance to spin a wheel after watching an advert. You don’t have to click on the ad or on any links, just watch the advert, usually no longer than 30 seconds, and click close when it is finished. You’ll then be able to spin the wheel.
Each of these spins can reward free coins and also scratch and win tickets. All you have to do to win on these cards is match three symbols.
Much like the daily spin wheel, you also get an extra bonus when spinning five ad wheels. Although this is limited to one every 24 hours.

Premium Spin Wheel

If you can’t wait until your next free spin or don’t want to wait for an ad wheel to pop up, you can choose to spin one of two premium wheels. To access these, you do have to pay either $1.19 for the Super Wheel or $11.99 for the Mega Wheel.
The prizes on these wheels are much higher and also come with the added bonus of gold bars, another type of in-game currency available on the PokerStars Play app. This extra in-game currency can be used on the PokerStars Play VIP program. This enhances any rewards you get.

Spin Wheel Prizes in PokerStars Play

The spin wheels in PokerStars Play offer a variety of prizes, primarily in the form of free chips. While the exact probability of winning specific prizes is not disclosed, you can win up to 9,500,000 chips, giving you more opportunities to enjoy your favourite games.
The maximum prize for each of the spins is as follows:

  • Daily Spin Wheel (Free): 10,000
  • Jackpot Spin Wheel (Free): 100,000
  • Ad Wheel (Free – Watch Ad): 100,000 and up to nine Scratch and Win Tickets
  • Super Spin Wheel (Premium – Paid): 500,000 and 20 Gold Bars
  • Mega Spin Wheel (Premium – Paid): 9,500,000 and 310 Gold Bars

Strategies for Spin Wheels in PokerStars Play

In order to help you make the most of the spin wheel bonuses, we’ve listed some tips that may help you maximise the number of free coins you can get from the non-premium wheels:

  • Remember to spin the daily wheel every four hours to maximise your chances of winning more free coins and unlocking the jackpot. You can also spin the ad wheel five times every 24 hours.
  • You don’t need to ‘watch’ the ads. The most you can watch in a day is five, and at only 30 seconds each, that’s less time than it would take to play a quick game of poker. You can do this while completing chores or watching a TV show if you don’t want to actually watch the ads.
  • Set reminders: If you’re prone to forgetting, set a reminder on your phone to ensure you don’t miss the opportunity to spin. You can also go into your phone’s settings to allow push notifications to do the same thing.
  • Consider becoming a VIP: The VIP program offers additional benefits like an extra 5% on your daily wheel bonus. The higher your VIP status, the better the benefits.
